Nikki’s P.O.V.
People think that they can hide their past behind their backs and change for the better or make a turn for the worse. There’s no doubt that you can but not forever. In one point in your life, those memories from the past can haunt you, make feel fear and will make you think how much time you’ve wasted back then.
Not for me. Not ever did I cower behind my past…
As I held Kano’s cheeks, I felt warm inside. Never have I felt it but it was like I never want to let go and stare at his eyes all the time. Eyes that I know have deceived so many people, placed fear in their minds and dragged down their spirits.
“How in the world would you link your memories to me?” He asked with curiosity.
“Just open your mind and let me in. Leave my memories flowing to your head. Relax and don’t be afraid of what you’ll be seeing.”
I dug deep in my mind and let my memories flow to Kano’s mind.
I’ve lived for more than a century or so which makes my memories longer than the normal human life span and compared to others, they are more vivid. It’s like Kano would just be watching a movie.
I hope he survives…

Kano’s P.O.V.
As Nikki instructed me, I closed my eyes and opened my mind on whatever memories she wanted to show me. Since I really want to know her, I just let them all flow…
Her memories are similar to HD films from the cinema…everything was so vivid…
“I’ll show you where my life as a child was.” Nikki appeared next to me in a ghostly apparition—her lower half faded and I realized that my figure was no different. “You can watch but you can never interfere.”
She took my hand and pulled me towards a white screen.
For a moment, my eyes was shocked with the light but when it adjusted, I realized that I was standing on a pavement while it was raining and a child about six years of age wearing rags as clothes, was sitting on the ground, curled up in a ball-like position and was shivering of the cold.
I looked at Nikki to ask who that kid was but I realized that it was her. The similarities were notable: same eyes, hair, and that petit build that you just want to pull in your arms and protect…
“I was abandoned my biological mother when I was such a young girl, maybe when I was three and I tried my best to survive off the streets, stealing was one of the many ways I used to survive and feed myself. This was one of the nights that I had to make do and beg at the streets of Paris to get some food.”
The distant stare in Nikki’s eyes was enough to tell me that she had a really hard time back then.
A minute later, a man and a woman under one umbrella approached her and tapped her gently by the shoulder.
“Young lad, would you like to join us? We’d love it if you joined us for supper.” The man in a coat offered.
Young Nikki had her eyes wide open with shock. Her attention went to the both of them and they were smiling down at her.
“But, I—“
“Shh…You don’t deserve to be crying under the lamp post in an evening like this. You should be having a good meal for thanksgiving. Now, come.” The lady took her hand and smiled down at her—a gentle smile full of warmth with slight pit on her.
“Why they took me in was still a mystery for me.” Nikki told me and took my hand again before the image suddenly shifted and we were beside a fireplace, next to a Christmas tree with several gifts under it, the chimney decorated with colorful stockings.
“Nikki, dear. Someone in here to see you.” The lady called from the door and she looked no different from earlier.
“That’s Louisa; she took me in and raised me as her own together with her husband, Gregory.” She looked at both of them with warmth in her eyes—I look I have not seen on her yet.
Louisa had her chestnut brown hair fixed in a do that was evidently famous from back in the 18th even maybe 17th century or so and was topped with a small hat with ribbons and flowers decorated and dangling just by its side. Dressed in a mint green dress, the lady looked young that you’d think she was just a few years over twenty or so.
“Coming, mother.” Nikki came out from behind a couch with a small blotch of crème by the side of her mouth and a grin was plastered on her face.
Dressed like an aristocrat, she looked gorgeous in her blood red dress.
Louisa pulled Nikki for a moment to wipe the crème off her cheek and let her go to meet the young girl’s visitor.
We drifted to follow Nikki and we saw her with a smile on her face. A young boy around the same age as she was, hugged her and smiled at her.
“Seto! Lovely to see you again! How was the east? Is it true that you ate raw fish?” Nikki asked with curiosity.
I recognized the boy. It was Seto, a friend of mine in the Dan. How..?
“Seto was one of my best friends back then. He was born an aristocrat and accepted the fact that I was picked up from the street by this rich couple. He was that one guy that helped me be a proper lady.” Nikki smiled at me.
“I hope that doesn’t disturb you. I know you and Seto are in the Dan together. I haven’t seen him for quite a while.” Nikki pointed back at the scenario in front of us.
“Someone’s eager to hear the stories of my journey. May I come in, Mrs. Red?” Seto asked politely and removed his top hat.
“Why of course, Seto. You know we like you accompanying young Nikki here.” Gregory smiled at the boy who came in and after him, another lady entered the house.
“Good afternoon, Lady Red. Please pardon our intrusion.” The lady looked around his thirties but her smile was radiant and lit up the room even for quite a bit.
“Oh, no matter! Please make yourself at home. Would you like some coffee, Lady Kousuke.” The couple was joined by the lady at their table and the adults enjoyed their coffees while Nikki and Seto played with their toys.
“Seto lost his father a long time before leaving him with her mother.” Nikki faced me. “We were leaning at each other’s shoulders at that time and were depending on each other for strength. Even as a young as we were, we knew the pain of reality which made us different than other kids who only knew to play and spend.”
I was speechless so I just looked down at the floor then back up at them but the scene changed.
It was spring and Nikki grew a couple years old with Seto next to her while they played at a green hill with a single tree on top and their parents sitting under it enjoying afternoon tea.
The couple Louisa and Gregory didn’t look like they aged a day whereas the mother of Seto had wrinkles on her face and a few freckles here and there but none the less she still looked sophisticated.
“Seto, try to be careful while running downhill.” His mother warned.
“I will mother.” He responded and kept running around with Nikki while she was holding her skirt up as not to get it dirty.
“Raaaaawr! I am going to suck your blood! Here I come!” Seto chased her around, both running downhill and Nikki was running a little too fast.
“Nikki—“
“Watch where everything wrong started.” Nikki pointed and I watched as she rolled accidentally tripped down and made her fall to the ground, breaking her arm with a snap and dislocating her shoulder. As if it was in the perfect timing, a pointed branch was pointing up and went through her stomach.
“Nikki!” Seto ran to Nikki’s side with panic evident in his eyes. He shouted for the attention of the adults who came rushing to his side and Nikki’s parents were panicking and their eyes full of fear of losing their girl.
Set pulled the branch out earning a painful, ear-piercing scream from the girl.
“Nikki, you’re going to be fine.” Seto whispered several calming words in Nikki’s ears but the girl was crying in pain.
“Call for the doctor!” Mrs. Red told her husband who hurriedly ran to do so.
“It took us hours but the doctor managed to fix my arm and shoulder and stop my bleeding but due to the lack of proper medicine back then, it was hard to heal without the medicine needed.” Nikki flicked her hand and the scene changed.
We were in a room which was evidently made for a rich teen age girl and on the canopy bed was the sleeping figure of Nikki in a sleeping gown.
The doctor was a blonde and her sapphire eyes looked at the young girl. The doctor was really beautiful and I wonder why she looked so young.
“Doctor?” Mrs. Red knocked and approached the doctor with a cup of coffee in hand.
“Lady Red, you need not to offer me such hospitality.” The doctor gave a curtsy but Lady Red gave her the cup.
“Please. You’ll need it.” This time, the doctor didn’t refuse and took the cup and drank.
Nikki’s eyes looked away from this memory. She looked so…pained.
“Whenever will she wake up?” Her mother asked.
“I don’t know for sure but I know something that will wake her up, cure her and bring her back to your side.” The doctor looked at the Lady who turned around in shock.
“Doctor, that is the last thing I want to resort. I want her to live a normal life, a normal human life. She deserves no such thing as the cruelty of immortality!”
I was trying to put the pieces of the puzzles together.
Lady Red was a vampire and so was the doctor but who is the blonde doctor calmly sipping her coffee.
“It was as if you deprive her of her only change of living next to you. As long as she has the both of you, she will make it through until she finds her destine. Till then, you can stay by her side.” The doctor set her cup down and sat next to the young girl and looked up to Lady Red.
There was eerie silence between the two of them but a sigh escaped the doctor’s lips.
“If you fear of her being an immortal like you, me and your husband, you might as well have left her under the rain to die from starvation the night you decided to pick her up the street seven years ago.” The harsh words of the doctor earned her a slap across the cheek.
“Do no cross the line, your highness. You and I both know that I took her in because I have already foreseen her life. I don’t know what happened but something went wrong from my prediction.” The Lady looked enraged towards the doctor but from the way that she addressed her, she was from a higher status than she is fronting up on.
“Well, if you are looking for the one who changes the fate of people, I’m surprised you still haven’t guessed who it was.” The voice of the doctor turned from the soothing calm to the devious and mischievous one.
“What? The only House of vampires I know that can change the Fates are…”
The eyes of Lady Louisa widened and looked at the doctor who suddenly had a different color of her eyes. From sapphire blue to ruby red…the color of royalty.
“Devil got your tongue, Louisa?” A smirk was on her lips and the hand of the doctor was tilting the neck of Nikki’s pale and dying figure.
“You wanted this to happen.” Lady Louisa looked at the doctor in disbelief and down at Nikki. She bit her lip and looked at the blonde with hatred.
“Choose and better hurry.” The doctor looked down on Nikki. “She’d be dead after a few minutes.”
“No! Please…heal her in every human ways you can. Please.” The Lady begged.
Nikki’s hand gripped mine tighter as the argument went on and on.
“I told you, if there was a way I can, I would but there are no other ways I know. It would take another century before the cure for her state would pop out.” The doctor said. “Time is running out, Louisa.”
Tears started coming out of the eyes of the lady who was on her knees down on the floor.
“Please…heal her. Turn her…just let her stay by our side.”
“Abide by the contract of the moon; swear to your blood to take her under your wing as a youngling. Abide by the laws governing the vampire race.” The doctor stood up and towered over the figure of Lady Louisa.
“I abide and swear by my blood. May your crown of from hell govern through the millennia to come.” The Lady responded and stood up to give a bow to the doctor. “La Reyna.”
“Well then.” The blonde turned to face Nikki and in a flash, bit her by the neck without hesitation, piercing the girl’s jugular vein by the neck.
Lady Louisa continued to sob as the blonde doctor slowly turned Nikki to an immortal—a vampire.
After the process, Lady Louisa locked herself in her chamber and Lord Gregory didn’t wonder why.
“I smelled the blood of my daughter. You had to turn her to keep her alive, isn’t that right, your highness?” Lord Gregory bowed behind the blonde while they were at the living room of the couple’s home.
“Your wife wants her alive so I fulfilled her wish.” The eyes of the doctor looked at the Lord with nothing but pity for him. “Besides, I know what would happen to this child.”
“Thank you for letting her stay by our side, your grace.”
“I made another immortal. There is no need for you to thank me.” The blonde flicked her hand and a scepter appeared.
“You know, this handy thing is going to be a handful for the century to come. Wars would rage, blood would spill, humans and vampires would have to fight alongside each other.” The blonde turned around to face the man who avoided meeting the lady’s sapphire blue eyes. “I have a task for Louisa to do.”
“Anything, your grace.”
The scene shifted again and I saw Nikki sitting at her bed, dressed in black and a maid tendered to her needs. Two or three of them rushed here and there to prepare the young girl.
“Miss Nikki, I am sorry for your loss.” A maid told her.
“No you’re not. You know nothing of my pain.” Nikki’s words were cold and compared to that back when she was a human, she changed drastically.
She stood up and walked out of her room with a maid by her side. The scene shifted again and we were in a cemetery somewhere in England.
“Mother, father…” She whispered and placed down the flowers on two graves that were placed next to each other. “Why did you leave me too early? I thought you were going to wait for me to find my destine?” Tears streamed down her eyes as she mourned over her parents.
Strangers that picked her up off the street, fed, her, made her feel the luxury of life but they were both gone.
The rain started pouring. A gun fire was heard from a distance and the screams of people were heard.
“Why, young lady, why are you crying? Certainly you don’t look good when you do.” A lady wearing a peacock color theme Victorian dress asked. She was beautiful and she radiated power.
“My parents are dead and I am an immortal who has no one.” She responded and looked at the lady with sadness and loss in her eyes and was surprised to see who it was.
“I should properly introduce myself.” The lady made a small curtsy. “My name is Hera, Goddess of Marriage, Fertility, and motherhood.”
Nikki’s hands gripped me and she looked at me. I thought it was just a part of the scene but she was ghostly white and pale.
I forced to cut the memories off and after I did, I was back in the real world.
Nikki collapsed right off the bat.
She failed to tell me that this was going o give her a toll at her body.
It was already evening and silence wrapped us like a cold blanket but I did whatever I had to.
I cut myself open, sipped blood from my hand and passed it to Nikki mouth to mouth…
You can say that I kissed her but I had to do it or she’s going to die from the too much use of her special abilities.
I didn’t need to look at the rest of her memories. I know her know and I need her back.
I pushed the blood off from my mouth to hers and she swallowed it. I took more from my wrist and made her drink it.
In a few minutes, her color was back and I hugged her tight and felt the warmth spread to the both of us.
“It’s enough. You showed me enough and now I just want you by my side. Please don’t leave me, Nikki.” I whispered as I cradled her in my arms, waiting for her to wake up.
