The Voice
(A/N)
I hope you guys remember the voice from the first chapter...
————————————
-flashback-
"So, I'll see you after class tomorrow?" Kaku smiles as he sets you down in the infirmary. Although you insisted that you didn't really need any medical attention, he refused, naturally.
"Y-Yeah, sure, whatever." You mutter. Not only was this guy unbelievably cheerful but he was stubborn.
"See ya then!" He waves and leaves the room, leaving you to your confused thoughts.
-end of flashback-
You frown slightly at the closed door in front of you. Kaku was probably in the boys' dorm by now but you could still see that smile inside your head.
You were stuck in the infirmary with Chopper, who was there working as a part time nurse/doctor. He immediately tended to your wound as you let out a sigh of exasperation.
I don't understand him. You grumble to your thoughts. His mind is sooo—simple yet complicated to understand!
"That doesn't make any sense." A smooth and deep voice rumbles thoughtfully. It was uncomfortably relaxing to hear that voice again, you smile a bit.
"What the hell is his deal asking me out on a date out of the blue?"
"Maybe he likes you, (Name)." The voice chuckles.
"I don't know...I'm not that type of girl..." You tell him.
"That's what you keep saying to yourself. You should give it a try. It wouldn't hurt, you know." You could almost see the smirk that stupid voice was making. You hated it when he's right.
"Fine," You mutter through gritted teeth.
Chopper looks to you like you had lost your mind and throws you a confused stare. You pat the reindeer's head affectionately. "Sorry, I'm alright." You reassure him.
The bell chimed, indicating that classes were over, and students were getting ready to go back to the festival preparations. You decide to help out this time since you have nothing better to do.
"Festival is next week, huh?" You ask the group.
"That's right," Nami nods while carefully painting the tangerine stand with bright orange paint. "It starts on Monday. We won't be having any classes for the entire week."
You hummed in content. Guess another break for me then. You smirk to yourself, holding the ladder steady which Nami was currently standing on.
"New students don't participate in the festival since the teachers say that they should enjoy it," Kaya explains. "So you'll be joining next year, (Name). I can't wait to work with you!"
You smile at the blonde girl. "Yeah, me too."
Ace, Sabo, Luffy, and (surprisingly) Zoro came to the stand and greeted you with smiles, except Zoro, he only looked grumpy as usual.
"Where have you been (Name)? It was sooooo boring without you here!" Luffy whines, dropping his boxes and dashing over for a bear hug.
He wrapped his arms around you using his rubbery powers. "Awww, thanks Luffy. I missed you too!" You gave him a peck on the cheek.
Luffy grinned, happy to have you back in the group, then pointed grumpily at his blonde brother. "Sabo was moping around all depressed the entire time you were gone. It was annoying."
"LUFFYYYYY!" Sabo exclaims, cheeks flushed in bright pink.
"Well it's TRUE!" Luffy yelled back. "He kept on mumbling about how you were probably on a date with the new ki—"
His last sentence was cut off with a fireball to the mouth. "Quiet, Luffy!"
You were mildly shocked by the fireball but were more shocked about Sabo's sudden reaction. Heh, it was cute.
You suddenly perked up as you remembered something. "By the way, Kaku asked me out on a date." You announce.
The entire group simultaneously shrieked, "SAY WHAAAAAAAAT?!"
You sweat dropped. "W-Well, he helped me out earlier when I fell so I figured it would be okay to repay the favor. Why, is it a bad idea?"
Several of your friends glare at you, making you step back a little. Vivi and Kaya looked at each other with unease. "S-So it IS a bad idea? Oh no. What do I do?!" You pale. Kaku is gonna be really disappointed if I blow him off.
"I think it's okay but," Vivi pauses, searching for the right words. "It's just that you just met him and all."
You nod. "True."
"Hmm...But isn't that the sole reason of going on a date?" Kaya asks curiously. "You get to know each other better, right?"
You nod again, frowning.
"Also true," The voice laughs.
"Shut up. You're not helping." You scold him.
"(NAAAAAAME)!!" Koala huffs, giving you a childish pout. "I can't believe you!"
Sensing the strong objections of the group, you stammer an apology. "Guys, come on, it's just a date!" You fidget with your shirt nervously. The others stared at you in disbelief.
"She's so innocent." Nami cries fake tears.
"What should we do? She's too young to go out on her own." Ace jokes and throws Sabo a questioning look. He just stood there in silence with a saddened expression.
That can't be good, Ace sighed. Geez, Sabo...
You watch the overreactions of the group and stayed silent. Maybe this was a bad idea.
Vivi gasps. "What if they kiss?!"
Your eyebrow twitches.
"Well, what if they just hold hands?" Kaya speaks up, face full of innocent curiosity.
Koala grimaces. "Or more..."
They heard a loud thud on the ground and turn to find you on the floor, hands stiffly locked to your sides, eyes closed shut, and blood dripping from your nose. You passed out.

*Sabo's POV*
It was soon dusk and everyone left to grab dinner, except Sabo, who was waiting for (Name) to wake up.
"Sabo, you sure?" Koala stands next to the door with a hand on the handle, "We can always carry her inside."
Sabo shook his head and gave her a reassuring smile. "I need to talk to her in private."
With a hesitant nod, Koala left the two alone.
It wasn't chilly as it usually is but he took off the jacket he was wearing and draped it over (Name)'s body. He sat down on the ground next to her and thought about what he had to say.
(Name), don't go on that date. He frowns. I want you to be mine, not his.
A low chuckling entered his head. Sabo stiffens and looks around for a sign of people but there was none.
"That doesn't sound very supportive of you." A smooth voice echoes in his mind.
Sabo blinks, "Hello?" He looks behind him but no one was there. Strange. Maybe I'm hearing things...
"I can assure you, you are not hearing things." The voice laughs. Sabo frowns and taps the side of his head. "Are you my conscience?" He thinks.
"Sorry, but no." The voice replies smoothly. "I cannot tell you who I am. But I can tell you about (Name)."
Sabo's gaze returns to (Name) still sleeping on the ground with his jacket covering her. Normally, he wouldn't say anything further but given the fact that he now has a voice in his head then this could be serious. "What do you want?"
He could almost feel like voice's lips curling into a smirk. "I don't want anything, Sabo. The question is: what do you want to know?"
"How...do you know my name?" He rubs the back of his neck, feeling a strange chill going down his spine.
The voice chuckles. "The living are so interesting." He muses.
Sabo frowns at hearing the word 'living'. "If you say that then I'm guessing you're nothing but a voice inside my head then. Am I going crazy, Mr. Voice?"
"No, no. Nothing of the sort." The voice tells him calmly. "To be honest, I'm not even suppose to be talking to you."
"Then why are you talking to me?" Sabo huffs in annoyance.
"I'm simply just bored since my host is knocked unconscious for all the disturbing images that went through her dirty little mind." He yawns before sending an echoing chuckle through his head.
Host?
He immediately looked at (Name) with a frown. "What do you mean by host, voice?" He asked sternly, loudly enough to show him that he was not happy about the idea.
"My, my," The voice muses, his smooth voice resonated calmly inside his head. "You sure are protective of (Name). Do you like her that much?" He chuckles, already knowing the answer from the flushed cheeks of the boy.
"Just answer the question." He hissed and the voice sighs before grunting a response.
"Stubborn, you are. No fun at all." The voice mumbles in dejection.
"Voice." Sabo warns.
"Fine, fine." The voice pouts, holding up imaginary arms in surrender. Sabo couldn't see it but he could feel that was what he was doing.
"You are well aware by the explanation of that Nico teacher about what Rarities are, correct?" The voice inquires.
Sabo nods. "Yes, I have. Rarities are people who have more than one ability, but what does that have to do with—"
"That isn't the entire description, boy, so listen well before opening up your mouth." The voice interrupts him, silencing Sabo, "A Rarity is someone who possesses two or more abilities. HOWEVER these added abilities have a cost."
Sabo furrows his brows in concern. "What kind of cost?" He asks slowly, warily, unsure of the question leaving his lips.
The voice pauses before sighing.
Sabo swallowed a lump in his throat.
"Well depending on the situation, a person can have more than one power," The voice continues. "But there is no such thing as a person being born with more than one ability..." He trails off, unsure of proceeding.
Sabo nods, urging him to continue.
"So the only way for one to receive two Devil Fruit powers is to sacrifice one life that also possesses Devil Fruit powers. The sacrificed person's Devil Fruit power will then be transferred to the other person."
"Devil Fruit powers?" Sabo echoes warily.
"Devil Fruit powers." The voice confirms. "These superhuman abilities are from the Sea Devil himself. He implants a fruit inside a pregnant woman's womb containing an unborn infant."
Sabo nods as the voice explains further, "Although, the powers he gives are random so there is no way of telling what kind of ability you receive. Truthfully, I don't even think he himself knows either. You don't think that they're called superpowers, do you?" He laughs.
"Well, maybe," Sabo pouts. "So what if I did?!"
The voice laughs again, louder and more lighthearted this time. Sabo smiles a bit before suddenly frowning again. "So, wait, if the cost of a second Devil Fruit power is a sacrifice of someone else's life then—does that mean—"
He widens his eyes at (Name), her innocent sleeping face showed no signs of awakening yet.
"Relax, lover boy, she didn't kill anyone." The voice chuckles at Sabo's panic state. "The Devil Fruit power may be transferred to another person but that doesn't mean that the deceased person's soul would be linked to the host."
Sabo frowned. There's that word again...
"So if that's the case, then," Sabo looks down, sensing a pair of (E/C) eyes gazing back at him sadly. "Who are you?"
He could feel the voice frowning at him."Who do you think?"
