Kid grumbled in his seat, clearly not happy about the crazy twist of events, and muttered incoherent things about whoever set him up for this. You sat awkwardly beside him with a sigh, not as upset as he was from the rotten luck of being paired up, you were actually kinda hoping that maybe after tonight then Kid would stop trying to kill you everyday.
Luffy seemed to be having more fun with his partner than you did as he ate mountains of plates worth of food. Sugar scolds him when the rubber boy threw a banana peel to the floor without a care.
Your eyes travel around the outdoor ballroom that was once the courtyard, frowning when you saw Sabo with Monet sitting down farther away. The Christmas lights that hung above them shone multiple colors of light, surrounding the two like multi colored fireflies.
As Ms. Nico walks by your table, you noticed her partner was a blonde man wearing sunglasses. "Who wears sunglasses at night?" You wonder aloud and gasped when he took out a cigarette and a lighter, accidentally setting his shoulder on fire as he lit up a spark.
Ms. Nico didn't seem to be surprised as he hurriedly tried to pat the flames away. "Do you need some help?" She asks politely. Though the question didn't need to be asked since he obviously needed help. However he shook his head and smiled like everything was okay.
As the man tried to search for water to douse out the flames, he slipped on the banana peel that Luffy had thrown, making him fly towards the buffet table and landing in the punch bowl. Screams filled the air when the liquid splashed to the nearby tables of couples, angering the girls as their (probably) expensive dresses were stained with purple water.
The man gives a sheepish grin and bows his head apologetically, butt still stuck inside the bowl of fruit flavored water. Ms. Nico only laughs at his clumsiness while you and Kid sweat dropped.
"That guy sure knows how to make an entrance..." Kid mutters.
"At least the fire's out." You point out with a smile.
Kid glances at you, taking in your beauty as the moonlight shone on your skin, you glowed like a goddess under the face of the moon. Pink dusted his cheeks and he quickly averts his eyes when you turned to look at him.
"So, uhh, Kid?" You began to think of conversation starters but were surprised to hear Kid say something first.
"You look nice." He says curtly.
It didn't sound like a fake compliment nor did it sound like he liked the idea of complimenting you. But as the words left his lips, you couldn't help but smile up at him. Kid shifted in his seat but kept the frown on his face. "He's so shy!!" You laugh inwardly.
"Bad boy has a soft spot, I guess." Aze comments.
Kid suddenly stands up, making you look at him curiously as he holds out a hand to you. "Let's get some food." He says.
You nod, smiling at how friendly he was being, and take the offered hand.
The buffet table was constantly being replaced with new food because Luffy, Sabo, and Ace ate like there was no tomorrow. Kid had filled out his plate with one arm since the other one was bandaged from all the burns he received.
A certain question popped in your mind and you were trying to think of how to ask it without reminding him of how much he hated you. Kid trained his eyes on you with a glare as you just sat there wordlessly, eyebrows scrunched up while you were thinking. It was ticking him off because the facial expressions you made were so weird, like you wanted to say something but couldn't.
"What?" He huffs. You watched him quietly, trying to think of a more comfortable way of phrasing out your question, when you noticed that he was having a hard time eating with one hand.
You look down at your own hands, although they were bandaged up, they didn't hurt as much as Kid's probably did. The way he was struggling made you pity him so you took his fork and knife, confusing him with your actions, and cut up his meat and held the forkful to his lips, "Say Aaah~"
"No." He replies and glares daggers at you.
"Come on now. This party is suppose to help students get along, right?" You pout childishly at him and poked his red stained lips with the fork.
"How is feeding me suppose to help us get along?" Kid scowls yet opens his mouth obediently, allowing you to feed him.
You happily placed the fork in his mouth and grinned as he bit the meat off and started chewing. He was still staring at you, waiting for a reply to his question.
"I was wondering why you seem to hate me so much." You frankly say, not knowing of any other way to say it, "I get that I pissed you off from day one but it wasn't like I did it on purpose."
He swallows his food and thinks for a bit. Whenever you walked by, he has this strange urge to run after you. Thinking that it was his hatred towards you because of the humiliation he faced, he charges at you without a second thought.
But now, now that you were sitting by his side, that urge was gone and he can't understand why. "Why do I run after you a lot?" He questions himself.
You look at him considerately and smile softly, leaning closer to his face and making him blush bright pink. "Well if you don't mind, Kid, I'd appreciate it if you'd stop trying to kill me."
"You—-" Kid starts to say but you placed a finger to his lips to shush him.
"I wasn't finished," You say sternly. "I would appreciate it if you would stop trying to kill me...and become my friend instead." You finish with a giggle as he widens his eyes.
"What, you serious?" He narrows his eyes at you and frowns. "After all the times I try to kick your ass, you'd wanna be my friend?"
You gave him a nod, patting his cheek twice before pulling away. Kid stays silent while you cut his food for him again and brought the fork to his lips.
After much thought, he grumbles a response with pink tinted cheeks, which you guess was an okay. Smiling happily now as he opened his mouth embarrassed, you fed him his food and pat his head. "Good boy~" You cooed, earning a growl from the pale redhead.
"That doesn't mean you can say things like that."
"Aww, but Kiiid! We're friends now, riiight?" You chimed.
His teeth clenched so tightly on the fork that the steel utensil snapped like a toothpick. "Don't make me change my mind." He growled.
