First Date 2/2
You sat inside of Sanji's cafe with Sabo sitting across from you. Students from your class were taking glances every now and then at your table. It sort of felt awkward and uncomfortable but you didn't want to ruin the date by complaining.
"You okay?" asked Sabo as he stops eating and looks at you with a worried expression.
"S-Sorry, I'm not used to getting stared at by people." You admit self-consciously and start hiding your face with your hair.
Sabo blinks and looks around the room. He noticed some men were grinning at you with lustful gazes. Their mouths were practically drooling at the sight of you and he could almost see what they were thinking of doing. He scoffs at them and stands up unexpectedly making you flinch in surprise.
"Sabo?" You began to ask but stopped as he pulls his chair beside yours and moves his plate, placing an arm over your shoulder protectively with a scowl on his face.
You shrink in your seat from the dark aura that was releasing from him. You never thought he could look so... terrifying.
He was glaring at a group of guys from across the room and you watch as they started for the door with scared looks on their faces like they had just seen the devil. You look up at Sabo and tremble from his threatening glare towards the door.
You gingerly reach out and placed your hand on his cheek, making him stiff and slowly calming down when he felt your hands shake slightly.
"Are you okay?" You ask as you draw your hand back from him. He catches your wrist and frowns at you. "Sabo?" You whisper.
His eyes switched from anger to sadness to apologetic.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you off." He sighs, rubbing the back of your hand with his thumb. His expression towards you were of love and adoration. It made you feel... special.
"Did they do something to you?" You inquire, motioning to the door where the group had left suddenly, and frown at the possibility. If they did do something then you were going to kick their ass for it.
Sabo shakes his head and sighs, leaning his head against yours and smiling.
"No. I was just-" He hums in thought for a bit, searching for the right words before shrugging. "Angry at them, I guess."
Before you could ask any further, the service bell rang and Sanji's voice called out loud for Koala to pick up her drinks. Wait... Koala?!
A familiar brunette walked up to the counter and got a tray of coffee from Sanji. As she turns towards her table, she notices you and Sabo, and starts grinning with a happy look on her face. You hide your blushing face with your hands while Sabo waves using the hand that was still over your shoulder.
Koala walks over to the table. She looks at you then at Sabo then back at you then back at Sabo. "How come you never told me about this, (Name)?!" Koala shrieks excitedly. "I feel so cheated! I cannot believe you kept this a secret from me! So this is why you were so stressed earlier!"
Sabo smirks and nudges you. You remove your hands from your face and pout at the giddy brunette as she jumps for joy. "Koala I-"
"Hush! I want you to tell me all the details later! Enjoy your date!" She hollers the last word and bounces out of the cafe with her coffee. You groan and felt all eyes were on you and Sabo, which they were and you could hear Sanji practically yelling at Sabo to remove his arm off of you.
You left the cafe an hour later after finishing your awkward breakfast with Sabo. You say "awkward" because Sanji was shouting at him half of the time because Sabo completely ignored his threats. He led you to the center of the festival where a snow cone stand was set up surrounded by actual snow.
"Two snow cones." Sugar chimed as she handed them to Sabo. He handed you the pink one and you took it while staring in awe at the fresh snow covered ground.
"Are you working alone, Sugar?" Sabo asks the young green-haired girl. She shakes her head and pointed at a beautiful woman with light green hair and amber colored eyes. "This is actually Monet's stand. I'm just helping out."
"Monet?" You ask, licking the snow cone, your eyes never leaving the blanket of white. Monet had been in a few of your classes but you've never spoken to her before.
"She's my sister. She has the power of snow." Sugar states before turning back to another customer in line.
Sabo watches you as you admire the white sheet of snow like a little kid seeing it for the first time. People were building up forts and throwing snowballs at each other. Others were on the ground making snow angels. There was a twinkle in your eyes as you looked at him, almost pleadingly. He chuckles. How was he suppose to say no to that face?
He gives you a nod and you finish the last of your snow cone and jump into a hump of snow. Sabo laughs at your eagerness and walks over to check on you. Your feet were sticking out and were flailing helplessly since you were now stuck. He could hear your muffled cries for help.
"Hold on." He says, grabbing your legs firmly and pulling you out.
You shiver from the cold, suddenly remembering that you weren't wearing any thick clothes, and sneeze. "A-choo!" You sniff and felt a slight dizziness in your head that made you cringe. Note to self: snow cone + jumping into a pile of snow = THE ULTIMATE BRAIN FREEZE.
"(Name), you're going to catch a cold." Sabo kneels down and places both hands on your cheeks and blows air on your freezing face. His breath was hot and you wanted more of his warmth, instantly hugging his neck, surprising him a bit. "Sabo...?" You whisper.
He stiffens slightly upon the position the both of you were in. You looked like a couple ready to kiss in public and Sabo's cheeks started to flush red after remembering what happened back at the room yesterday. If Luffy hadn't said anything then he might have possibly done more than lip locking with you.
"Yes (Name)?" He murmurs quietly.
"It'll be alright... Besides, the cold never bothered me anyway~!" You sang the last part out with a smile. Sabo's eyes widen as he realizes from the evil glint in your eyes.
"(Name,)" He says warily, hanging his head down to hide his grin. "Please don't."
"Got something against musical numbers?" You laugh.
The date went by smoothly, sorta. You and Sabo looked around the shops, greeting your friends in their stalls, watching Shanks embarrass Mihawk on stage, and talking about your pasts. You learned that Sabo was a nobleman's son and how much he hated it, how he met his brothers, and all their crazy adventures together. Sabo, in return, learned about bits of your past, the friend that died for you, how your family was friends with a government officer.
You were in the middle of talking about how you refused to leave your room after the—-incident—-when you suddenly stopped talking, earning a curious glance from your date as you were frowning at the depressing memory.
Sabo gently took your hand in his and gave a sad smile. "You okay?" He murmurs.
"Yeah," You sigh. It'll only be troublesome if he knew about Azazel. "I think maybe I shouldn't tell you anymore than this."
Sabo's smile disappears and was replaced by a frown. "Don't you trust me, (Name)?"
You look at him, guilt written all over your face after hearing his sad tone, you wanting to trust him and you not wanting to tell him were completely different things. At least, that's what you think. "I...just don't want to talk about it." You mutter through gritted teeth. You weren't mad at him or anything like that, you were just worried what he would have thought of you then.
Sabo sighs and releases your hand, looking away from you. Your chest tightened and instantly you missed the warmth of his hand on yours. There was a strange feeling again, but you couldn't point out what it was.
After a little while, the both of you spotted Kaya and Usopp by the edge of the fair. You waved and Kaya waves back, smiling at you cheerfully. "Hey guys! Wannna join us for lunch?" She beams, holding out a picnic basket and gesturing for you to sit with them.
You look at Sabo and noticed he was staring into nothing, probably thinking hard about something. Probably thinking that I'm such a secretive date. You sigh inwardly and nod to Kaya. "Thanks for the offer. You sure you don't mind?" You ask Usopp sitting beside Kaya. He shrugs and takes out the food from the basket. "Plently of food to go around."
You sat across of Kaya while Sabo sat beside you and across Usopp. Kaya was chatting excitedly with you about how well their stall was making good money, whilst Usopp spoke with Sabo about your date so far.
"Have you learned anything about her?" Usopp whispers, careful not to alert the girl across from him.
"Yeah, I did actually. She...doesn't exactly have a happy childhood." Sabo mutters the last part sadly while glancing at you. He knew it was probably hard for you to tell him about it and it made him want to help out. When you stopped talking earlier, he knew you were hiding something from him. Was it about the voice from last week? He thought to himself, so far that was the only thing he could think of.
You were listening attentively to Kaya with a smile on your face. Sabo whispered to Usopp about his suspicions and asked him what he should do. Usopp went silent as he thought of an idea. "Hey, girls," He piped in, you and Kaya looked as he called. "Why don't we play a game?" Usopp suggested, grinning at Sabo when the blonde looked at him confusedly.
"What kind of game?" Kaya gasped, there was a shine to her eyes like she was willing to go with his suggestion. You look to Usopp and waited for him to answer.
"Truth or Dare!" Usopp says excitedly. You blink at him.
"Umm...if Kaya wants to—" You were cut off by an eager squeal from the pale blonde as she clapped her hands cheerfully.
"Yes, let's play!" Kaya giggles.
Sabo stares dumbfound at Usopp. This was actually a great idea. He smiles innocently and nods. "Let's play then."
Kaya takes out an empty bottle from the picnic basket and spins it. It points at Usopp.
"Okay, truth or dare?" You ask him.
"Dare." He says with pride. You look to Kaya as she giggles uncontrollably.
"I dare you—" She looks around in search of something. Ah, there! "I dare you to steal Law's hat."
Usopp pales, maybe dare wasn't a good start. You and Sabo look around for Law and spot him sitting down with a white bear in a jumpsuit. They were eating lunch too and Law would not be suspecting someone to steal his hat out of the blue.
"Is this a good idea?" You ask Sabo.
"Nope." He answers bluntly, watching as Usopp tip-toes behind the unsuspecting victim of their ridiculous game. With a swift hand, he swipes the white fuzzy hat from Law and runs for it.
"He did it!" You laugh.
Usopp ran while screaming, holding the hat triumphantly in the air as Law chases after him. "I GOT IIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!" He yells and shoving the hat towards you as he hides behind his girlfriend.
"(Name)-ya," Law huffs, glaring slightly at Usopp before extending his hand out for his hat. You gave it back to him. "What the hell was that for?" He inquires.
"Playing truth or dare." You reply. He scoffs before shaking his head and walking back to his seat. He did not look the least bit happy of your answer. Oh well.
"Okay, next." Kaya chimes as Usopp spins the bottle again. This time, it landed on Sabo.
"Truth or dare?" Kaya asks him.
"Truth." He answers, looking to Usopp.
"Okay then—" Usopp hums in thought. You grew curious about what his question would be as he glances towards you and suddenly grins. "Sabo, what do you feel about (Name)?" He blurts out.
"WHAT?!" You and Sabo scream in sync.
"I mean, what are your feelings towards her. You know, that stuff." Usopp says. Kaya was smiling as she waited for an answer.
You wanted to cover your ears but part of you wanted to know what he says. Sabo just sat there with a red blushing face. He didn't really thought about the consequences of playing this game. But he had picked truth and so—he was going to answer truthfully.
"W-Well—" He began, twiddling his fingers and avoiding your eyes. "I think...(Name) is a wonderful person. She's sweet, silly, and... umm... well, beautiful." He murmured the last word under his breath, but all of you heard it clearly nonetheless. You felt your cheeks heat up and Kaya pulls you into a happy hug.
To save himself from embarrassment, he quickly grabs the bottle and spins it. It pointed... at you.
"Truth." You answer simply, not wanting to have to go through with what Usopp did. Sabo takes a deep breath before asking.
"What... is the secret you've been keeping from me—er, I mean, us." He corrects himself.
You frown, you couldn't dodge the question in a game of truth or dare. Curse the author for having made you do this.
Sabo held his breath as you stood up and walk away. Crap, she's mad now. He cursed at himself for being so stubborn when you suddenly called to him. He looks up and meets your gaze.
"Do you want an answer or not?" You ask, already knowing his answer. He nods and stand up, saying a quick goodbye to Usopp and Kaya, and hurries to your side.
"I'll only tell you, okay? I don't want anyone else knowing about it." You tell him as soon as you reach your favorite place. The lake.
"The thing that I didn't want to tell you is... about Azazel." You sigh, watching his face for a bit before continuing. "He's, uhh, a person—sorta—in my head that possesses half of my abilities."
Sabo tilts his head to the side. "Half?" He echoes in question.
"Yeah..." You mumble, suddenly hearing a familiar chuckle in your mind. "Actually, Sabo, Azazel is a demon."
