Time

Soft sunlight filled the small room as it bounced off the dusty wooden floors. The broken window sent the rays around the empty room, while the torn curtains swayed gently in the breeze filling the empty space. Spreading dusty to new cracks and holes in the rotting wood. A few bugs were disturbed and shifted to new resting places as they dust sprayed into their homes.

A yellow bird fluttered into the room and gracefully moved around the room, carefully eyeing the feast before it. With the aid of the wind it dipped down and snatched a few unsuspecting victims into its beak. Chirping occasionally it enjoyed the feast it had found. Resting on the window sill it continued to eye the floor eagerly. Waiting for the dust to bring out more bugs for it to feast upon in the morning light.

Gently the ancient door creaked pushing the bird to flee from its hunting grounds. A small child peeked in just to see the bird disappear out of the window. They blinked for a moment before slowly walking in. Their face instantly turned sour from the dust filling the air mixed with the smell of rot. Still the child continued to move into the abandoned room, their eyes watering instantly.

Silence surrounded them as they sat upon the floor. Looking over to the window, waiting patiently. Their eyes flickered softly with innocent hope as they soon began to rock themselves back and forth. Even as the sun turned hot under midday, they continued to sit and watch the window. Soon enough the yellow bird flew back onto the windowsill.

Flapping its wings it gracefully moved a bit upon the wood as it noticed the young child. Eyeing it curiously the bird chirped and tilted its head gently. A smile spread onto the child's face as it giggled softly. With the wind lending a hand the bird drifted around the room, circling the child as it clapped its small hands. Laughing with joy covering their expression.

Slowly the sunlight turned cold as time quickly past. Sadness fell upon the child's expression as it watched the bird move back over to the windowsill. It looked back at them for a moment, chirping softly before it flew off into the darkening sky. The same darkness fell into the room as the child stood and gently pulled the old door open again. But know stood a grown man as he smiled fondly at the empty windowsill. His expression rougher than before and his eyes no longer held the innocence anymore.

"Goodbye, my friend" He said fondly before he turned and left the small room.

A soft click followed his disappearance as the room faded into a treasured memory of a time long ago.
