~~~~~Halluciv's P.O.V.~~~~~~
I was happily looking around the large cozy cabin Marvul and I had just moved into. It was two stories with a small basement and located in a peaceful forest with large trees. We didn't live too close to town as we both preferred our space and Marvul, being a hunter, liked being surrounded by the wilderness. Back in our old home, the village made us a bit claustrophobic and Marvul didn't get along with the other hunters so we thought moving away was our best option.
Marvul was an enthusiastic hunter and was one of the best in town. He was definitely looking forward to killing a deer or two in a week. I never liked the idea of him killing, but oh well. I'm content with wandering around the edge of the clearing we live in.
"Now, Lucy," Marvul said, making me sit down on the couch. Oh God, here he goes with one of his lectures again. "These woods can be dangerous, so don't wander out too far. Always make sure you can see the house. Is that clear?"
I snapped back to reality, leaving my daydream. "Huh?"
Marvul face-palmed. "You're hopeless..." he hissed. "Just don't leave my sight. Got it?"
I nodded, knowing I really had no say in this. "Can we go exploring later?" I asked hopefully.
"Hm...maybe," he said. "I'm going to map out the place in a bit. You are to STAY HERE until I get back." Marvul ordered. I whined in protest but he didn't budge. "We don't know what could be out there. There could be a bear, or someone dangerous." I looked down and pouted.
I didn't want to be stuck inside again. Marvul can over-exaggerate. Back when we lived in town, he refused to let me leave the area near the house without him, not even to the other side of the street. Said everyone could be dangerous and that I could get taken away. I know Marvul loves me and just wants to protect me, but I just wish he would just back off a bit.
His gaze softened and he set his hand on my cheek making me look at him as he crouched down to my height. "I just don't want you getting hurt. I don't know what I would do without you."
I turned my gaze away from him and muttered. "Okay... I'll stay here..."
"Thank you," he smiled. "I just want you to be safe."
~~~~~Time Skip~~~~~
I sighed and gazed out of the window. It was just past noon, and Marvul left about an hour ago so I was pretty bored. The past few months have been hell for me. Marvul rarely lets me out, always checks on me, he never lets me out of his sight. The torpor is slowly getting to me, with nothing to do but stare out the window at the same view of trees. He's driving me crazy!
I've tried going outside a few times, just for a little bit, to see the sun, play in the grass, pick some flowers... but Marvul always catches me. I don't know how he knows when I try escaping. I guess his paranoia really gets to him. Sometimes it gets so bad, he comes home early thinking I left.
The house's large size only added to my loneliness. I've already wandered the entire place plus the basement at least three times. I've explored every inch of the place and even memorized how many and where each crack and crevice is in the house. Nothing special, simply a mundane cabin in the woods.
I can't deny the thought of running away has crossed my mind, but I couldn't do that. I know Marvul hates making me uncomfortable but he would never forgive himself if I ever got hurt. Besides, he's my brother, I can't just leave him, he'd go insane looking for me.... and I have nowhere to go.
I sighed loudly to myself and groaned, bored. There's nothing to do here! Trying to sneak out was hopeless since the sky was a gloomy shade of gray meaning it would probably rain soon, and I'm not too keen on getting wet and sick. At least if it rained, Marvul would come home early. Unfortunately, even with him at the house everything still felt so stodgy. Chess wasn't fun anymore and I've already read every book we own, unfortunately even Marvul's books. My face flushed purple at the thought of his choice in genre. He didn't need to know I've read them...
The sound of rain hitting the window snapped me out of my thoughts. The sky darkened as light droplets fell out of the clouds. I sighed to myself as the window was quickly covered with rain and easily fogged up, making it nearly impossible to see outside.
Before moving here, I was petrified of rain, mostly due to thunderstorms. Since it rained a lot in this area, I thought that I'd never get any sleep. But, after the first week or two, I got used to it. Thankfully, it's actually been helping lull me to sleep. Though I was still scared to death of the occasional storm. I'm fine with anything else, but I always hide under my blankets when it starts booming outside.
About half an hour later, Marvul came back soaking wet. By then, I was nibbling on a sandwich. I'd rather have something else, something sugary, but we rarely leave the forest and go into town. Only once every month or so.
"Didn't get anything," he grumbled after he set his shotgun and coat beside the door to dry off. "All the deer were scared off by the rain." I nodded dully, forcing the rest of the bland sandwich down. He turned to me and approached. "You feeling okay?" he asked. I didn't respond. Probably because part of me forgot how to out-of-boredom.
After a few minutes I hummed faintly, not really paying attention. He noticed my disinterest. Finally realizing why I was so out of it, he hugged me gently and my attention loosely focused back to him. He thought a moment before asking,"Do you want to go out with me next time I go out?" I quickly shook my head no; I was not willing to see an animal getting shot dead. He chuckled showing he was only joking. There's no way he would allow me to see something so morbid. "Do you want to go exploring in a day or so?" he offered. I rolled my eyes, annoyed. We've explored the area many times already and Marvul refused to go any further than a few yards away from the house with me.
He straightened up looking down at me, thinking. I just sat there quietly, still gazing out of the window. My reflection was barely visible.
Marvul pulled me to my feet, making me get off the stool I had been sitting at for who knows how long. "Well then, I'll find something for us to do." he stated.I hummed again, barely acknowledging what he said.
He sighed and after a few moments of silence, he spoke up."....do you want to go into town and get some cookies?" That peeked my interest. I instantly looked up at him, eyes brightened with life I thought I lost.
"Yes. When can we go?" I said without hesitation, causing Marvul to smile at my reaction. "Well, glad that you're excited," he stated and I nodded. "We'll go tomorrow when the rain clears up, okay?" I nodded eagerly, already feeling excited again. Unfortunately, that came with some impatience. I want to leave now.
"Calm down!" Marvul laughed as he watched me jump up and down in my seat. "Get some sleep. It's going to take a while to get to town, anyways. You need to be well-rested, okay?"
Hmmm... "Okay..." I said slowly.
I'm going to leave as soon as he's asleep.
~~~~~Time Skip~~~~~
A few hours later, I stepped out of bed, careful to not make any noise. I heard Marvul go into his room a while ago and I was ready to sneak out. I checked the basket Marvul gave me for my birthday a few years go, making sure I had enough supplies to get to town.
I pulled my hood up and opened my door quietly, looking around the hall. Once I was sure Marvul was in his room I crept my way to the living room as silently as I could. It was pretty late so I could barely see 3 feet in front of me. Thankfully, due to me memorizing the house layout I made my way to the door without bumping into anything.
I looked back at the house, feeling a wave of adrenaline fill me. I've never tried leaving in the dark, and never to a place so far away. Normally, I would try to leave just to play around the house when Marvul was working, but nothing like this!
My grin widened as I placed my hand on the doorknob, turning it lightly. My breath hitched as I took a step out, letting the night air fill my senses. Closing the door behind me, I took a step across the porch, ready for the adventure, before hearing-
"I was wondering when you would attempt to leave."
~~~~~Tem Ship~~~~~
"I'm sorry Marvul!! Please don't leave me here!" I pleaded to my brother as he was getting ready to leave. Marvul had been sitting outside on the porch waiting to see if I was sneaking out. Goddamn brothers...
"No Halluciv, you could've gotten lost, hurt, or even killed out there!" he stated sternly. "I can't believe you would try to do such a thing." He put on his now dry jacket. I looked down, feeling guilty.
"I just wanted to be free for once..." I mumbled.
Marvul stopped in his tracks, looking back at me sadly. He walked over and pulled me into a hug. "I just want you to be safe." He murmured and let go.
He walked over to the door and opened it.
"HAI MARVUL."
My brother jumped back and screeched in fear.
At the door, about to knock, were Eraser and Reboot. I quickly ran at them, giving them a huge hug and nearly knocking both of them down. Which was surprising, since although my brother and I were twins I was smaller, I was ¾ of Reboots height. My excitement was overwhelmingly obvious.
"Holy crap Halluciv! What the hell!!!" Eraser exclaimed, standing up straight again. Reboot smacked him on the back of the head while Marvul glared daggers at him. I looked at both of them with an exasperated look while Eraser cleared his throat. Of course... I had to stay the pure child.
"Anyways," Marvul continued. "What are you two doing here? Don't you live across the woods?"
"We thought you could use the visit. It's been a while and we wanted to bring you something." Reboot said holding a jar of honey. My eyes lit up at the sugary substance, already jumping up and down in excitement.
Reboot and Eraser lived near a few bee hives so Eraser would go out frequently collecting the honey and Reboot would make it edible. Sometimes he would even make small pastries with it.
"Guess I'll go hunting later..." Marvul said as we all sat down at the table. I got out some bread so we could all eat. I love Reboot's homemade honey.
"That reminds me," Eraser started. "We were hoping it was okay if you could bring us a hunt every other week or so. Since you left, none of the current hunters go out and get anything and you're the only other hunter we know."
My brother looked at his friendo wide-eyed. "Seriously? You guys live so far away, I got a job to do, I can't just leave to deliver to you!" Reboot took a glance at me, pondering for a bit.
"What about Hallu-"
"ABSOLUTELY NOT!!" Reboot squeaked in surprise at Marvul's sudden raise in volume. I looked over at Eraser ,who looked like he was about to smack Marvul for yelling at his Reboot. Marvul took a deep breath before continuing. "I am not sending Halluciv through the woods. Especially with a package full of raw meat for every animal to feast on. He'll get mauled on out there."
"Marvul, we aren't stupid. We know you and we know how much you love Lucy but you can't protect him forever." Eraser sighed. "It's a simple job. Just walk back and forth from here to our house. We even checked the area and found no big predators around."
Marvul looked down, thinking. This could be my chance for freedom! I walked up to him, hugging him tight. "I can do it Marvul! I promise I'll listen to you from now on. I'll even stop trying to sneak out!!!" I ignored Reboot and Eraser's surprised looks at the mention of my attempts at escape, thankfully they didn't question it.
Marvul stared at me for a few minutes before speaking up. "Do you really promise."
I lit up. "Yes! I super promise!!" I squealed. He sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
"Fine, but the first few times I'll go with you just so you don't get lost."
I squealed excitedly and hugged him tight again, the other two gave out a small sigh. I was finally leaving this wretched house. I was finally going to travel. I couldn't wait.
~~~~~Time Skip~~~~~
I bounced on my heels slightly, waiting impatiently as Marvul took his sweet time getting ready. He clearly still didn't want me to go, but now I was set on going. He was taking way too long for my liking and I was ready to yell at him. After a few more minutes Marvul sighed, seeing nothing else to stall time. He pulled his coat on and slung his shotgun over his back. I didn't like the idea of him using it while we were just going for a walk, but I didn't mention it.
Knowing me he grabbed my hand before I could run ahead. "Slow down," he said. I whined softly, trying to break free from his grip. He dragged me to the side of the house's property, where a thin dirt path was. I realized he wanted this route because it limited my ability to get too far. I was hoping that we'd take another route, where we could explore. But I guess Marvul really wants to make sure I'm not out of his sight. He let me walk in front of him, but kept a tight hold on me, while I continued to try and slip away. I can do this on my own!
After a few minutes, my hand started getting sweaty from Marvul's not wavering grip. By then, I had stopped running and was at a slow pace. When I broke into a sprint without warning, Marvul squeaked and I managed to slip out of his grasp, squealing in success.
I ran off to the side, already eager to find something new. Marvul was cursing behind me, trying to follow. His shotgun or coat must've gotten caught on a branch or something, because he swore loudly. I somehow managed to loose him, trying to not giggle too loudly.
After a while of running I realized I had no idea where I was. Maybe I should've followed the path.
I skidded to a halt and glanced around. All I could find were trees surrounding me and a few rock piles. I whined in frustration and looked back from where I came from.Unfortunately, I had gone too far to see the path... and Marvul.
I decided to head to where I at least knew where the path was leading, determined that I could do this on my own. It can't be that hard, anyways. Eraser and Reboot said it themselves that this place was safe. Looking around I spotted a nice clearing. Taking a detour, I walked to it. It was a neat circle with sunlight shining through the leaves that surrounded the area, warming the grass. To the side was a small stream and in the middle of the clearing was a... "PUPPY!!!" I squealed a lot louder than I thought was possible.
The small furry form looked up, I probably woke him up or something. He saw me almost right away and jumped up, alarmed.
My eyelights formed into stars as I ran towards him, over-excited. "HAI PUPPY!!!" I squealed happily. The dog growled at me, taking half a step back. Unaware of his distress I knelt down in front of him. "AW, AREN'T YOU A CUTE PUPPY!!!" I squealed loudly. I questioned myself. How has Marvul not heard me yet?
He hissed and growled as I reached out to pet him. "Come on, I'm not gonna hurt you!" I insisted. Then I got an idea. I set my basket down and opened it. Before we left, I knew Marvul would change his mind midway through to trip so swapped the meat out for a bunch of sweets. One of the reasons why I ran off. I took out a small pouch of cookies and opened it.
The dog watched curiously as I offered a cookie to him. He growled, taking stepped back. I pushed the cookie closer to him. "It's ok. It's food!" I insisted. I took a bite, showing it wasn't poisoned, but he wasn't having it. He frowned and began walking away. "Wait! No, don't go!!"
The cute puppy growled as I jumped up and basically shoved the cookie in his face. "It's good!" I told him. "Really good!" The puppy turned away, already sick of me. I whined and followed, leaving my basket behind. I'd get it later. The dog yelped in alarm as I actually began chasing after him, trying to feed him some of the cookies.
Eventually he snapped around, barking at me. I grinned and offered the cookie again. He stared at me, rolling his eyes. Hesitantly he took it, slowly chewing it. A shudder went through him a second later. I pet his head, scratching behind his ears gently. He growled stubbornly, but seemed to like the cookie.
He sniffed my hand, pressing his muzzle against my side. I giggled and walked back to my basket. I opened it and tossed him the pouch with the rest of the cookies in it. "You can have them!" I grinned.
The puppy immediately started tearing through it, tossing the cloth bag aside. He got through the cookies surprisingly fast. He took one glance at me before shoving his face in my basket. I giggled. He must really like the cookies, then!
After a few minutes, he started trying to escape. He backed up, looking upwards and stumbling as his head was still caught in the basket. I giggled and walked to him. He squeaked as I gripped the basket and pulled on it. The basket came right off, leaving the puppy's face covered in sugar and crumbs. I giggled again and pet him. This time, he let me with no remark.
I hugged him, happy. Seeing I meant no harm he rested his head on my shoulder. I wondered how the sugar will affect him.
As if on cue, I felt his full, dead weight press down on me. I squeaked as he practically passed out on me, shoving me back onto the grass. I smiled and rubbed the side of his face. He groaned and rolled over, faceplanting onto the grass beside me. Maybe the sugar isn't good for dogs...
I pulled him up to sit and pat his head. "You okay?" I asked playfully. He shook his head and began to fall over again. I laid him down gently and pet the side of his face. "You're really fluffy!"
He swatted at me meekly, growling softly. I giggled and scratched behind his ears, making him relax. "Cute~!" I giggled. I got an idea and reached to rub his stomach. He whined at first, twisting away from me, but stopped and whimpered at the pain in his stomach. He gave in and relaxed as I rubbed his belly. His tail wagged and hit the ground rapidly as I did so. I scratched behind his ears with my other hand. He seemed to really enjoy it. I hugged him and brought his head to rest on my lap. He relaxed and curled up. "Tired?" I asked.
He didn't respond, already asleep. I giggled and hugged him tighter in response. He stilled as he fell asleep, probably going to stay out like that for a while. I pet his head, content. The puppy pushed me, trying to get comfortable, knocking me back onto the grass. I squeaked as he curled up on top of me, resting his head on my chest.
I laid back, rubbing his back and scratching behind his ears. His tail wagged slowly as I did so, making me giggle softly, hugging him. The puppy curled up into a tighter ball in response.
"HALLUCIV!!"
~~~~~Marvul's P.O.V.~~~~~
I had my gun pointed straight at the damned beast on top of Lucy. Unfortunately, I couldn't shoot in risk of hitting my brother. Lucy looked panicked while the creature was..... Asleep?
"No! Don't hurt him!!!" Halluciv pleaded as he hugged the wolf, who stirred slightly due to the noise we were making.
"Halluciv be quiet and get away from him!!! He's waking up!" I whispered to him in a panic. Lucy looked down at the wolf and stroked its head gently, lulling him back to sleep. I looked in bewilderment as he calmly snuggled with it but it did nothing to lessen my worry. I wanted so bad to just run up to them, rip Halluciv from there and run off. I couldn't do that though, the wolf could wake up and chase us or bite my brother.
I was stuck. There was nothing I could do to get him away from that thing. All I wanted was to protect my brother and I couldn't even keep a close eye on him before he ran off.
My breath hitched as I saw the wolf shift in its sleep, but it only snuggled closer to Halluciv. I took this moment to look around. I had lost the path while running after him and couldn't figure out where to go when I got Lucy away from the beast.
Lucy seemed to realize the same thing I did and got an idea. He shifted the wolf, on his lap, onto its back so he was mostly cradling it. He lifted its head slightly, rubbing its jawline lightly. The wolf immediately reacted by pounding its tail against the ground and giving small whimpers of satisfaction, absolutely loving the feeling. Lucy giggled and stopped his actions, making the wolf whine and look up at him.
I felt my fear multiply by ten, thinking the creature was gonna try and take a bite out of my Halluciv. Instead it nudged his hand, asking for more pets. Lucy giggled, nuzzling its nose.
"Can you show us back to the path?"
I stared at Halluciv with the biggest 'What the fuck' look I could muster. "Halluciv that thing is a beast! It can seriously hurt you, and it definitely can't understand you!!" The wolf looked up at me, hearing the sound of my voice, and instantly started freaking out, trying his best to squirm away. Unfortunately for him, Halluciv held a tight grip on him. How? I don't know.
"It's okay!! I won't let him hurt you!!!" Halluciv yelped to it, petting and nuzzling him but nothing seemed to calm the thing down. He then turned to me with slight anger. "Put that thing away! You're scaring him!!!!"
Surprised at Lucy's voice and not wanting the wolf to hurt him, I set the gun back in its holster. I didn't like not being able to do anything but I honestly had no choice if I wanted my brother to be safe.
A few minutes later Lucy got the wolf to calm down. By then he was basically pinning him down so it wouldn't run off. "Please, we need to get home and we don't know where the path is. Can you help us?" He asked again, rubbing the sides of its face. The wolf relaxed a bit, seeming to really like Lucy's affection.
The wolf tried to look back at Lucy, and when he couldn't he wiggled slightly trying to get the other off. Halluciv slowly slid off, letting the wolf get up. I was tempted to grab my gun and aim it at the creature but thought against it, Lucy was still too close.
The wolf turned to him, grunting slightly, and nudged his hand before walking to a random direction. Lucy followed happily without hesitation before I could protest, keeping a close distance to the other. He probably knew I would shoot the damned thing if he was far away enough.
I followed a few feet away, not wanting to scare the wolf but close enough to grab Lucy if something happened. After a few minutes I could see the small path we were once in. I stared in amazement. How the hell did Halluciv manage that?!?! I swear he's a disney princess in disguise.
Once we made it out of the forest, Halluciv squealed in excitement. I flinched as he hugged the wolf, thanking him over and over. The creature made a face as if he didn't really like the contact, but it was clear he was loving the affection.
Halluciv ran over to me finally and grabbed my hand dragging me onto the path. I decided to let the wolf be for now. The wolf turned to leave and Halluciv waved bye at it. "BYE PUPPY!!!" I facepalmed.
"It's a wolf, Halluciv." I hissed.
"Oh...... big puppy."
~~~~~Time Skip + Halluciv's P.O.V.~~~~~
I grinned at Marvul, my eyelights shaping into stars. "WHEN CAN WE DO THAT AGAIN?!" I asked excitedly.
"...Never." Marvul growled obviously upset a t me.. "I am not letting you out of my sight! Also, you're grounded!!" He said stomping around the room.
I whined softly in protest. "Aw, come on Marvul! I'm sorry I ran off but I wanna see the puppy again." I knew what I did was wrong but I was more than sure Marvul would have gotten too paranoid along the way and turn around. I was not missing the chance for adventure.
"Absolutely not, you could've gotten hurt, or worse. That WOLF could've bitten you, or you could've gotten lost, or something else caught you-"
"But I'm fine!!!" I protested. "The puppy didn't do anything to me, and helped you find the path!"
"WHAT IF YOU WEREN'T FINE. WHAT THE HELL WOULD I DO IF YOU GOT HURT?!" Marvul demanded and I hung my head low. He took a deep breath and softened his tone. "I just don't want you getting hurt....We only have eachother, I can't lose someone else."
I hugged him and sighed. "I'm sorry for scaring you, but I can take care of myself. I'm not a little kid anymore. Even if you keep track of everything I do, can I at least go outside...?" I asked hopefully.
"After I make sure that beast- err, wolf-....puppy, whatever, didn't follow us." Marvul stated. "And only when I tell you it's alright, okay?"
".......okay..." I gave in. It was better than staying indoors all the time, anyway. "But can I at least say goodbye to the pup-"
"Absolutely not."
"Awwww..."
~~~~~Time Skip~~~~~
It's been a few weeks since that event. Luckily, I was able to convince Marvul to let me deliver to Eraser and Boots again, so long as I stay by him. I agreed, hoping he would let me do it on my own this time. So far we only went about five times and Reboot would always reward me with a few cookies or a jar of honey.
I still haven't seen the puppy again, sadly. I missed my puppy but at the same time I was glad. I didn't want Marvul shooting him and I couldn't go looking for him. As bad as I wanted to see him, I didn't want to lose my freedom after I just got it so recently.
Today was the first time Marvul was going to let me go on my own to Eraser and Reboot, since I haven't ran off lately. I was so excited I couldn't wait but was extra careful with the things I did, not wanting Marvul to change his mind. If I messed up, he could very well keep me inside forever and I didn't want that.
~~~~~Xcellence's P.O.V.~~~~~
I was currently laying on the floor, sick from whatever that sweet food was. Either I ate too much of it, or that skeleton had tried to....actually, I probably just ate too much. I ended up throwing up most of it a few minutes after the smaller skeleton left. Unfortunately, I still felt it after all this time. It was still worth it though, since all the deer in the area are dying off and that food took away some of my hunger. I think that skeleton's brother is killing the deer.
After a bit of being in complete pain, I slowly stood up. I shuffled slowly to where the path was. I waited there a lot, hoping the hooded skeleton would be there alone so he'd give me some food. But his brother would shoot me the second he sees me again. I hated begging and taking things from monsters and humans, but at this point I'm desperate. Winter's coming quickly, and I need food.
I walked down the path for a while. No scent of rabbits, and deer were already dying out. I sighed and flopped over, not knowing what to do. A few minutes later, I heard soft crunching as someone walked along the gravel-and-dirt path. My ears perked up and I looked up to see who it was. Even if the armed skeleton was with the kind small skeleton, I'd try to get the small skeleton to give me at least something. I was desperate.
Surprisingly, only the smaller skeleton was there this time with the brother nowhere in sight. Spotting me, he immediately ran up excitedly. I flinched, still not used to others getting so close. He crouched down and pet my head, ruffling my fur. I rest my head on my front paws, my ears lying flat on my head. He looked at me in concern. "You look thin," he noted. "Are you hungry?" I gave a small whine and he set down his basket. Did he have more of the sugary stuff? I liked it, even if it wasn't that good in the long run.
Instead, he had meat wrapped in a bit of cloth. He reached into the basket and pulled out the small bundle, opening it. He visibly cringed when he touched the raw meat while I drooled slightly, already tasting it. I took it from his hand, starving. He squeaked and giggled as I licked his hand trying to get every bit of the food. I bit down hard into it, starving. He scratched behind my ears as I ate like, well, an animal.
I finished it quickly, my tail wagging fast. I licked around my mouth, content. The skeleton hugged me and pet my head, making my tail thump the ground repeatedly. "So cute!" he giggled. I huffed and turned away he responded by hugging me and rubbing under my chin. His affection felt surprisingly... really nice. "It's getting really cold out," he pointed out. "And you're clearly hungry..."
I looked up at him as he pat my head questionably. "...so...can I try taking you back home with me? Just for the winter, at least...?"
At first, the deal seemed perfect. I'd be warm, and the skeleton would give me food, so it sounded amazing. But then I remembered his brother. He'd shoot me on sight!
The skeleton seemed to realize that and paused. "Well...I'll convince Marvul you mean no harm! Besides, you're too cute to leave alone!!"
I growled and glanced away, annoyed. I am not cute! He opened his arms, almost asking for hug. I slowly got up and walked towards him, liking his embrace. He hugged me and lifted me up. For some reason, I was fine with it.
I curled up in his arms, relaxing at how comfortable it felt. He carried me back to where his house was. Normally, I didn't dare ever go near it, in case his brother was there. But at the moment, I was too comfortable to care.
Once we were there, he set me down to knock. "I'm back!" He called and thats when I noticed where we were. His brother answered, his face a bit confused. "That was f-" He stopped.
The small skeleton shifted me in his arms and held me close. "No hurting him!" He said sternly. "He's cold and hungry, so he. Is. Staying!!!!"
The hunter looked like he was sick of his brother and looked desperate to just grab his brother and run. "Halluciv. Set that thing down. NOW." He hissed.
The small ske- er... Halluciv whined. "Why...? He never did anything wrong!"
"HALLUCIV. That is an animal. A predator. It's wild, and not a freaking puppy you can buy! It may be 'tame' now, but when it gets bored, who knows when it will snap and bite you?" He growled. "Put it down slowly and get inside."
"No!"
Halluciv's brother stared at him. "Halluciv. I said-"
"And I said NO!" I internally wished that I wasn't there, feeling like it'd be better if I walked away. But Halluciv's grip on me was firm. "I'm taking care of him."
"Halluciv, I am your brother-"
"You're my twin!!!" Halluciv interrupted. " You're not older! I'm not your little brother!! I'M NOT SOME FUCKING KID!!!!"
He had nothing to respond to that. Halluciv seemed shocked at his own words but didn't take them back.
Halluciv huffed and hugged me tight. He strode right past his brother and into the rather warm house. I looked around, spotting Halluciv's brother's gun beside the door. I shivered slightly, not trusting this place. I'm in their territory. And that skeleton already hates me.
Halluciv walked swiftly through his home, to what I guessed was his room. I curled into a tight ball in his arms, nervous that his brother was going to kill me. He could very well shoot me while Halluciv and I are sleeping.
Halluciv set me down on his bed and pet my head, scratching behind my ears gently. I gave in to the nice feeling and relaxed slightly. "Are you hungry?" I nodded. The day after I threw up the sugary food, I was even more hungry than before. I barely able to find two rabbits since then. The brother keeps scaring the rabbits off, and the deer are beginning to move farther out in the forest. Where other predators are, and where sunlight never reaches. I can't go in there; I'd be breakfast for a mountain lion.
Halluciv glanced around. "I can't leave you alone...." he mumbled. "Sorry for making you get up again, but I'll have to take you with me since Marvul hates you. He's probably pissed at me now... "
I snuggled into his chest as he picked me up again. It wasn't that bad, actually. I'm tired, hungry, and cold, and he's going to give me shelter, food, and let me rest. I normally hate relying on others, but this is an exception....
~~~~~Time Skip~~~~~
I was set back on Halluciv's bed and receiving cuddles nonstop. His brother, Marvul, didn't even try to hide the fact he hated me. Because of that, Halluciv made me sleep in the same bed as him. I didn't mind that much, since he was warm.
I snuggled into his chest. For the first time in a while, I wasn't hungry. I was content and warm and felt safe. He had one arm under his pillow and the other around me, making sure I was close to him. I pressed myself against his chest and closed my eyes. The rhythmic sound of his soul-beat was relaxing. Lulling, even.
I sighed softly and let myself relax. It's been about a few weeks of me being here. I was really hoping Marvul was starting to trust me. I know it was merely wishful thinking, but Halluciv put me in a good mood.
Halluciv shifted in his sleep and hugged me tighter. I slowly opened my eyes and looked at him. He rest his head on mine, looking content. I closed my eyes again, letting myself fall asleep.
~~~~~Marvul's P.O.V.~~~~~
I can't sleep.
I can't, knowing that...that thing is so close to my brother. It could turn on him at any moment and rip his soul out. I shuddered at the thought.
This has been going on for a few weeks now and the damned thing wouldn't leave Lucy's side. It went everywhere with him; to bed, on trips, to play outside. Halluciv stopped listening to me, especially when it came to going outside. I lost my brother, I lost Halluciv... and it's all that little shit's fault!!!
I turned and stared at my shotgun, which was leaning on the wall across from me. I kept it with me just in case. I didn't want to get mauled to death in my sleep. I might hear him scream....and help him....and maybe he'll see that I was right all along.
But maybe.....just maybe....I can get that thing away from Halluciv just long enough to end this whole ordeal....
~~~~~Xcellence's P.O.V.~~~~~
I was slowly trying to fall asleep again. I had woken up due to some noises outside in the living room. I figured Marvul was just having trouble falling asleep again, so I didn't mind it too much. I nuzzled into Halluciv's side, who earlier had turned over so he laid on his back and stopped hugging me.
I sat up to lay my head on his warm chest when I felt an arm snake around my waist and pulled me off the bed. I would have barked for Halluciv but a hand clasped over my mouth, silencing me. Instead I glanced behind me and saw a very sleep-deprived Marvul.
It took him a while, due to my thrashing, but he managed to drag me outside and down the small path they normally use for travel. In my attempt to get away I caught a glimpse of his gun strapped to his back, making me panic and thrash harder.
Unfortunately, because Marvul was a hunter, he knew how to tie a mean knot. Once I got too hard for him to hold on to, he pulled out a rope from his back pockets and started to tie me down. It took him a few minutes before picking me up again.
I started whimpering. I just wanted to be back in bed with Halluciv. To eat dinner with Halluciv. To be safe with Halluciv. I just wanted Halluciv.
I couldn't remember the last time I cried in my entire life. I don't think I ever did, but now.... I was sobbing. I wanted to go back. Not to the forest, but into Halluciv's small arms. I couldn't tell when I got so attached to the small skeleton but I did. Being torn away from him made me feel so empty. I admit I love his warm hugs, his gentle nuzzles, his sweet kisses. I love them all and I would do anything to get those back and away from Marvul.
Marvul glanced at the me as thick, hot tears streamed down my face. He looked a bit surprised but continued his way towards my death penalty. He found his way to the clearing I first met them both. Okay, now this is just sick.
He set me down right in the middle of the field and I immediately tried squirming away or at least loosen my bonds but nothing worked. The ropes held me tight and the ground was too loose for me to get a good grip to run off.
I froze hearing the click of his gun reloading. I turned to see the barrel a few inches away, aimed to blow my brains out.
I whimpered and looked at Marvul with pleading eyes. He looked dead inside, as if the only thing he ever cared about was gone. But it wasn't like Halluciv was dead, he was still alive...at the house...fast asleep. Ignorant at the fact I was going to die.
"It's all your fault..." Marvul whispered. I could barely hear him at the fact how he sounded so broken. "You're the reason my Lucy is gone. I don't know who he is anymore..."
I looked at him, confused. What the hell has gotten into him?
"With you gone, my little sweet Lucy will come back to me. He'll understand. He'll see I'm right and how he should have listened to me in the first place." He shook slightly and looked lost in thought for a while before focusing back on me.
"Nice knowing ya." He pointed the gun back at me, after it had slowly drifted off, and smiled. "But not really..."
I shut my eyes tight and curled up best I could, accepting this fate.
"NO-"
BANG!
~~~~~Marvul's P.O.V.~~~~~
I looked at Halluciv in shock. His scream startled me, making me jump and shoot the beast through the side instead of the head. I was scared that Halluciv had seen it, since I knew he wasn't fond of gore.Halluciv somehow looked pale. His pupils were only pinpricks of pale lavender. But he didn't move, and actually began shaking slightly. Small, purple tears began to form at the corner of his eye sockets. I didn't what to do. I'd already knew he'd ask where the wolf went. I planned on saying it ran away or something. But I hadn't planned for if he would actually see me shoot it.
"L-Lucy-" I began, not knowing how to start. Would he believe me if I said that I caught the wolf trying to bite him? No, of course not. I'd like to think that Halluciv would believe me, but I know he's smarter than that.
Before I could say anything else, Halluciv sprinted towards me and slammed into me. He was pretty light so it didn't hurt too much, but it startled me so much that he managed to push me down. He knocked the gun out of my hands, making it skid too far for me to reach, and grabbed the wolf. Before I knew what Halluciv was doing, he'd run off in a blind direction with the creature.
After I processed what the fuck was going on, I managed to get my gun out of a nearby bush and started sprinting after them. I was done playing games.
At this point, I'm going to kill that thing even if Halluciv tries to stop me.
~~~~~Xcellence's P.O.V.~~~~~
Everything's so blurry....
"No, no, no- Don't close your eyes!" I heard Halluciv yell. He sounded desperate, making me worry. I couldn't see him, with the way he was carrying me, but I could tell he was taking me somewhere. His rush didn't help my concern.
I'm so tired....I want to sleep now....
Dazed and numb, I weakly licked his hand and pressed against it. Then I felt the sharp pain in my side, making me tense up and whimper. He stopped running, breathing heavily. Kneeling, he carefully set me down on my side. I flinched as he did so, seeing a blur of red on his hoodie where I had been leaned against. Blood....?
That's when I finally processed that I had been shot. Halluciv literally saved my life. I whimpered again as the pain gradually got worse. Halluciv looked panicked. He put his basket down, and I briefly wondered if he actually carried it everywhere with him.
He set me down and carefully untied me. I stretched as much as I could without hurting myself, loving the feeling of movement again. He picked me up again, being careful with my sides, and set me down in the basket. I sniffled in pain and curled up, feeling somewhat safer in the confined space. Halluciv picked the basket up with me in it and resumed running, trying his best to keep the basket from shaking too much.
I felt a wave of exhaustion hit me, but tried not to fall asleep. After seeing my own blood smeared on his clothing....even blinking terrified me.
After what felt like hours, Halluciv slowed down. He gasped for air, completely out of air. I desperately wanted to snuggle close to him, lick his face and hands again. I just wanted everything to go back to the way it was before.
I managed to lift myself up a bit and peek out of the basket, stiff and tired. I immediately recognized Eraser and Reboot's house. Halluciv knocked on their door frantically, looking around in fear. I slid back into a sleeping position and tried to ignore the smell of my own blood. The throbbing pain was coming in waves.
It didn't take long for Eraser to answer. Halluciv had streaks of tears on his face and my blood on his clothing, so Eraser's panic was understood. He quickly pulled Lucy in, not asking what was going on.
Reboot was there, too, cooking what I assumed was dinner. My mouth watered despite how much pain I was in. Halluciv set the basket down and opened it, letting Eraser and Reboot -who had come to see what was going on- see me. I was trying to keep my wound hidden, but when Halluciv gently picked me up there was no hiding it.
I weakly licked his hand, not knowing what else to do. Next thing I knew, Eraser was telling Reboot to clear one of the counters so they could get a better look at the wound. Halluciv was quietly telling me that I'd be okay over and over. He rubbed behind my ears in his attempt to comfort me, since he couldn't really do anything else.
Eraser came back with a first-aid kit and set it down beside me. I whimpered as he made Halluciv stand back. I didn't want him to leave....
At least Eraser was kind enough to let Halluciv be in my line of sight. He looked beyond worried and scared, tears still falling. I flinched and whined as Eraser moved my fur back to see the wound. He then leaned to see my other side and cringed. "Whoever shot him-"
"M-Marvul....h-he shot h-him...." Halluciv cut him off, sniffling.
Eraser looked slightly stunned, but didn't say anything about it. "When....when Marvul shot him, he clearly didn't have good aim. Luckily the bullet didn't seem to hit anything vital. He'll live." He stated. "Because the bullet went straight through him, we won't have to go through the pain of taking it out.
I cringed and shuddered. Knowing that somehow made the pain worse. Halluciv whimpered and stepped forward, despite Eraser's commands. He pet my head gently, trying to calm me down. He let me nuzzle his other hand, scratching behind my ears soothingly. I felt my tail wag weakly. Eraser sighed, letting Halluciv comfort me while he worked.
I felt a sharp, painful sting on the wound. I yelped, but Eraser and Halluciv held me down. " Keep him still..." Eraser said quietly. Halluciv nodded and walked to the other side of the island counter. He set one hand on my shoulders and another on my lower back, clearly not liking the process either.
The sting came again, and I whined. Eraser picked up some gauze and set it down for later use. He and Halluciv swapped positions so Eraser could clean where the bullet had gone through. I whimpered and squirmed slightly as he did the same thing to the other side.
After another agonizing minute, he finally stopped. Eraser took the gauze and glanced at me, probably pondering on how to get it around me. "Can he stand?" he asked, looking at Halluciv, who shrugged.
"I don't really want him too...." he muttered petting me gently.
"I understand, but I need to bandage up the wound. Can you help him stand?," Eraser said softly. I whined as I managed to stand up, shaking horribly. Halluciv and Eraser took turns getting the gauze around me. I somehow managed to stay standing through it all.
When they were done, I collapsed almost immediately. Halluciv pet me gently, scratching behind my ears and along my jawline, relaxing me. It didn't take long for me to finally give in to my exhaustion and pass out.
~~~~~Halluciv's P.O.V.~~~~~
I refused to leave my wolf's side. Even when Reboot offered to look after him while I went to go sleep or eat, I kept my place. We had carefully moved him to the guest bedroom so we could both be comfortable and clean his blood from the counter.
I haven't seen Marvul in a while, nor did I want to see him. If you couldn't tell, I was still mad at him. I know he cares, I know he just wants to protect me. I just need him to understand I am my own person, I can take care of myself. I don't belong to him and he can't treat me like a little kid or some item he happens to holds dear.
X, as I began calling him due to the markings on his fur, was recovering fairly well. It still hurt for him to stand so he would either stay laying down or sit upright. It's been great being with Reboot and Eraser. They both care for X and agree he needs to stay away from Marvul.
Sadly, I have so go back home at some point. Despite what he did, Marvul was still my brother. He just..... needs to understand. I didn't want to bring X with me though, I knew for sure Marvul will shoot on sight the moment he spots X. No doubt he's mad at me too.
I had to leave X behind if I wanted to see my brother. I didn't want to, but I knew it was the only way for him to live while I talked to Marvul. At least I knew Eraser and Reboot would take good care of him while I'm gone!
After a few more days I finally got the courage to head for home. I made sure X was asleep, knowing he would be upset once he found me gone. I pat his head for the last time and gently placed a small kiss on his cheek before leaving the room.
Reboot looked up from the couch at me, surprised I finally left X alone. Immediately he tried to get me to eat something or sleep but I wasn't having it. I picked up my basket and started placing a few blankets in it. Luckily I found an old fur skin and placed in inside to make it look like X was in it.
I knew Marvul was waiting for me. He was waiting for me to bring him X, but I was not giving him my puppy. Not my X.
Reboot watched me carefully as I moved around the room, understanding what I was doing and dare not stop me. I picked up my basket and walked out the door without another word. X will not be happy once he wakes up.
~~~~~Xcellence's P.O.V.~~~~~
I woke up slowly, confused. I looked up and glanced around, still half-asleep. The first thing I noticed was the lack of Lucy there beside me. He hadn't left my side in almost two weeks!
I tried convincing myself he was fine. He probably went to sleep, or to get something to eat. Yeah, that's it. But, for some reason, I didn't believe that. He hadn't left me, no matter what, so Eraser or Reboot had to bring him food. He'd even sleep with his hand over me and his head beside mine. What had he left to do?
I shakily stood up, still weak from being shot. I managed to get off of the bed without collapsing too hard. I stumbled into the halls, trying to guess where Halluciv went. I shuffled into the main room, my side becoming sore quickly. The bandages were still uncomfortable, but the pain was worth it if I could see Halluciv.
I stumbled into the main room, shaking. Eraser was there with Reboot, both quietly talking. Reboot saw me and stopped speaking making Eraser turn. For a moment, there was an awkward silence.
I whined and shuffled to them. I looked up at him, expecting them to tell me where Halluciv was. They glanced at each other for a moment, as if silently debating something.
Reboot was the one who spoke first. "Halluciv went to go speak to Marvul. I'm sure he'll be back soon-"
I didn't let him finish as I turned and half-sprinted, half-tripped to the door. Eraser stood up and walked over to me, easily picking me up. He was careful with my wound, and carried me back. I whined loudly, which turned into a howl. I just wanted Lucy. I wanted all of this to be over. I wanted to forget Marvul and just be with Halluciv, in his comfy embrace.
I squirmed, trying to escape from Eraser but his grip on me was firm. I got desperate. Marvul lost it. He's dangerous. He hurt me, he could very well hurt Halluciv. I didn't want my only friend to get hurt, or worse. I howled louder, part of me praying that Halluciv heard and came back.
That's when I bit Eraser.
He dropped me, and yelped in surprise. I didn't bite hard, just enough to startle and get him to let me go. I immediately made a break for the door, ignoring my limp. Seeing that there was literally no way I'd get through that, I went for the open window. Much easier. I fell through it, landing in a rather painful position on the ground, but that didn't stop me. I quickly got back up, and kept running. I heard Reboot yell after me.
I scrambled out into the forest, immediately racing to where I knew Marvul lived. I didn't like it, but I wanted to at least make sure Halluciv was okay. At most, get him away from Marvul.
I came across to the small area Halluciv and I first met. I paused here to catch my breath, exhausted already. I needed to be careful running like this. The wound might even reopen, and that would not be a good thing. I resumed running, though slightly slower. I tried to keep up a fast pace, but my side was burning with strain. I had to slow to a jog. After a while, the house came into view. It looked creepy to me now, instead of a safe haven. I slowed to a walk, panting, and made my way to the door. By now, every part of me was completely sore.
I got onto my hind legs and peered through a window. Sadly, it was closed so I couldn't get through there but I saw Halluciv & Marvul in the main room, arguing. I noticed Marvul had his gun on his back, which made me worry even more. Now, Marvul could snap and seriously hurt Lucy.
I ducked back down before they could see me and pawed at the door, even though it was pointless. Even if they heard me, I was sure that it would end badly. I whined softly and pressed the side of my face against the wood, clawing at the door desperately. Seeing that it wouldn't work, I decided to try to find another way in. I padded to the side of the house and spotted an open window. I reached up and hauled myself through the empty frame.
I landed in a separate room. The kitchen. I crept to the doorway and peeked out. Marvul looked really pissed off. Halluciv looked terrified as Marvul reached to grab his gun. "Halluciv...you don't understand..." Marvul whispered. "That wolf...he's messed you up..."
Halluciv whimpered and backed up.
Marvul's expression darkened. "You are not my little brother anymore..." he whispered, barely audible, but Halluciv & I heard it clearly.
He readied his gun, aiming straight at...Halluciv... My eyes widened, my pupils shrinking. Halluciv froze in fear, now shaking.
BANG!
I was too scared to look away. But, thank God, he didn't hit Halluciv. He hit his basket. Wood blasted everywhere, as well as....a blanket? Halluciv visibly relaxed, almost hysterical. He dropped the basket. "Did you really think that I'd bring X here...?" he asked softly. "As much as you may want me to be, I'm not stupid."
Marvul said nothing, eye sockets empty.
Halluciv's voice calmed, so much it was almost scary. "Marvul, I know you hate X. I know you want to shoot him, skin him alive and maybe even hang his head on the wall. But, he truly doesn't mean harm. He's been a better friend than you have. My only friend besides Eraser & Reboot. He's really nice, just...please...realize that..." Halluciv said softly.
Marvul shook his head, refusing to accept it. "No. You were so pure and...and innocent... Th-that beast did something to you.... You were my little brother..." his gaze softened, as if he was trying to convince Halluciv he was right. But then his gaze turned to stone again. "And that thing ruined you!"
Halluciv closed his eyes and took a slow, deep breath, choosing his next words carefully. After a few seconds, he opened his eyes and sighed. "I was never innocent. You were just too ignorant to see it."
Marvul just stared at him. "..."
I held my breath, part of me thinking that they'd hear me in this horrible silence. Halluciv seriously surprises me with how well he was handling the situation. Marvul took in a few deep breaths before speaking again. "N-no.....y-you were innocent and pure a-and sweet and..." he trailed off. "You were perfect, and that thing tainted it!" He hissed. Halluciv didn't back down though.
Halluciv let out a heavy sigh. "Don't be so stubborn. You think that I'm an innocent and pure child. We're the same age, Marvul! We're twins, for crying out loud!"
Marvul stayed quiet. Perhaps he had nothing to say.
Halluciv was patient, he stood his ground watching the crippling mess that was once his brother. Marvul stared into space, you could almost hear the gears in his head turning as his mind raced to put several pieces together. Tears streamed down his face as he slumped down to the ground. I could tell he was mentally broken.
Halluciv sighed, silently walking over, ignoring the many empty bottles of alcohol I failed to notice before now. He stood in front of the other with a blank expression but I could tell he was pained just looking at his shattered brother. Marvul didn't do anything, obviously too ashamed of himself as he sobbed.
I looked at Halluciv who held his hand out to the other, it was easy to see it took all of his willpower to not wrap his brother in a big hug. "Please Marvul, enough with the gun..." It took a few minutes before Marvul shakily grabbed his gun and put it in Halluciv's hand, who walked over to the other side of the room and set it down.
When he turned around his eyes spotted me and he momentarily froze but quickly regained his composure to not alert the other. He thought for a moment before walking back to his brother and crouched down. "Please be my brother again. My twin brother?"
Marvul took a shaky breath before nodding. "No more hurting X?" Marvul nodded again and Halluciv responded with a soft hug. He carefully helped him to his feet and led his brother to his room. This will probably be the first time Marvul has had a proper night of sleep in weeks.
A few minutes later, Halluciv walked out and immediately ran to me, wrapping his arms around me in a gentle hug. I immediately relaxed into his touch, but was short lived as he pulled back. "X, why would you come all the way over here?!? You're already hurt, I can't have Marvul harm you anymore, or worse, kill you!!!" My ears flattened at the tone of his voice and I licked his cheek.
He let out a sigh and blushed lightly before picking me up carefully. I curled up in his arms and wagged my tail happily as he walked to his room and placed me on the bed. Tired, he crawled into the sheets and I snuggled next to him. Letting out a yawn, he placed his arm over me and pulled me close. I wasn't too tired so I just watched as Halluciv slowly fell asleep as I licked his cheek every once in awhile. I felt right at home with him.
~~~~~Time Skip~~~~~
The next few weeks have been better. Marvul, although still not completely comfortable with me, tried his best to relax when he saw me. He started going into town for therapy every few days. When he did, Halluciv and I would go visit Reboot and Eraser, who forgave me for the whole freaking out and biting Eraser incident. They even got Halluciv a new basket!
Even though I now get three meals a day, I'm still thin. It's probably going to take a month or two until I start to get back to normal.
Halluciv took me to a 'vet', which is like a doctor for animals. I still don't trust a stranger putting needles in me. Halluciv had to keep petting me and reassuring me over & over that the stranger wouldn't hurt me. At least we got out of that overly-clean place in less than an hour. And we got to take my bandages off a few days later, too.
Now, Halluciv and I were sitting on his bed. I was lying on my stomach, glad that the bandages were finally off. Halluciv had an arm around me, rubbing along my jaw. He was on his side, letting me snuggle into his chest. The sound of his soul-beat was calming. Lulling, even.
I closed my eyes, beginning to doze off. Halluciv rubbed the side of my face and scratched behind my ears gently. I tilted my head back, my eyes half-closed and rolled back slightly. I didn't get why being pet felt so good, but I wasn't complaining.
Halluciv smiled and kissed my nose. "I love you, X." I licked his face playfully, letting him know I loved him too. He giggled rubbing the side of my face. I turned over onto my back and yawned. It was getting late now. Halluciv was beginning to doze off already. He rubbed my belly, making me make a sound similar to purring.
After a few minutes, he fell asleep. I scooted closer and nuzzled against his neck, his warmth helped me battle the cold weather outside. I licked his cheek and the rest of his face and nuzzled him gently. I didn't understand why I wanted to do things like that but it felt right. I wanted to show him I cared.
Halluciv smiled softly in his sleep. I licked his cheek and nuzzled him, cuddling closer into his warm chest. He set an arm around me in a hug. I yawned and finally let my eyes close.
I soon fell asleep, happy and loved.
