Zoro x Reader - Love Lives On
Hey guys! This is sort of a short prequel to my Reader x Sanji x Zoro, though it is much more focused on Zoro. I figured I should put out something since I have nothing to do right now. The reader is female due to the song lyrics, but if you are a guy, sorry (I know the feeling believe me aha. I barely ever find male x readers unless they're just yaoi).
Song - It's Over Isn't It? - Steven Universe (Cover by annapatsu)
Please listen while you read! :D
You laughed, sitting down on the dry grass. A fire crackled in front of you as Sanji laughed drunkenly. Zoro was a few feet away, unconsciously staring at the both of you. You two were so happy together.
"Sanji!" you laughed as the cook began to kiss your neck, chuckling all the while. You blushed when you caught Zoro looking uncomfortable, and shoved Sanji away.
The blond simply snickered as he fell back into the grass. He began humming, inhaling the warm air by the fire. You knew the tune immediately, looking to Zoro.
"Can you play?" you asked sweetly.
"Sure," he murmured. He picked up his violin and began to play as Sanji hummed.
Sanji soon fell alseep silently. You listened to the music smiling. A few minutes went on and you began to feel drowsy. You shut you eyes, and Zoro patted your hair--thinking you were sleeping.
Just as you were going to request another song, a soft voice sang sweetly.
"I was fine with the men
who would come into her life now and again
I was fine 'cause I knew that they didn't really matter
--until you."
Your eyes snapped open. Zoro's eyes were shut as he sang and played the violin. You'd never heard him sing before. It was always Sanji who sang--always Sanji who was the main focus. But as you gazed at Zoro under the light of the fire, you realized how calm he looked. You didn't realize he could be so soothing. In all honesty, you often did not notice Zoro. Sanji always got your attention, Zoro never really wanted to be the main focus.
But you watched him sing and realized that when he was the main focus, he was beautiful.
"I was fine when you came
And we fought like it was all some silly game
Over her, who she'd choose
After all those years I never thought I'd lose.."
His eyes opened when he felt your gaze, and he immediately let go of the violin. His lips formed a tight line, and redness crept to his cheeks.
"I didn't know you were listening.." Zoro murmured.
You looked away, "Sorry."
The sound of Zoro's voice stuck in your head. It was so pretty. You didn't even listen to the lyrics, you were too focused on him singing.
"We should put the fire out. It's dangerous to leave it burning throughout the night," Zoro stated. He began looking for the bucket of water they'd procured.
"Oh."
Zoro raised an eyebrow, "What?"
"I thought you were going to sing some more."
Remembering himself earlier, the violinist blushed. His tone soon became harsh.
"I'm not."
You pouted, crossing your arms. "Okay.."
Seeing you pout made Zoro blush even more. You were so cute, even when you were annoying. He tried to wipe the thought of you away, glancing to Sanji to remind himself that you weren't exactly single anymore.
Your eyes drifted to the swordsman. When had he grown so gentle? You knew he truly was harsh. He'd yelled at Sanji until the man hit him with a frying pan. However, never was he like that around you. It was always gentleness.
Drops of water splashed on the grass beside you. You looked up, realizing Zoro had put the fire out. The swordsman plopped down, lying on his back. He was noticeably far from you, trying to be respectful of your privacy. But you didn't notice these things. The small things the swordsman did to please you or make you comfortable--you never noticed.
"Do you mind?" you asked, scooching closer to Zoro.
He made a sound in shock as you slipped your arms under his. You hugged his back, feeling the muscles act as pillows for your face. The warm skin contact made Zoro tremble.
"No, it's okay," the swordsman finally admitted, his face going red again. He bit his lip harshly when he felt your chest press against his back. He made sure his thoughts when remain pure. It was simply two friends embracing for warmth.
At least, to you..
Zoro always knew he'd loved you. But he was far too respectful to approach you. As much as he fought with the cook, he respected your relationship.
But as Zoro felt your warm arms hug him, he felt a little too much warmth in his heart.
You would always be his everything.
He wondered what he was to you.
Zoro felt your soft, rhythmic breathing and closed his eyes, frowning.
"It's over isn't it?
Isn't it, isn't it over?
You won, and she chose you,
and she loved you and she's gone
It's over isn't it?
Why can't I move on?"

You stayed awake, unbeknowst to the violinist. You wondered what girl he sang of. His voice began to soften, and a warmth cascaded over you.
A thought came to you slowly.
What if the person he spoke of was you?
You shook your head softly--making sure Zoro couldn't feel you.
The girl wasn't you--that'd be ridiculous. You were not his type--Zoro liked the loud, risky crpwd, not the childish ones. And your looks weren't special. You weren't a model.
Whoever that girl was, you wished Zoro happiness.
"I love you."
Your eyes shot open.
But again, you brushed it off. Zoro couldn't like you.
You didn't think of a reason why he couldn't like you. He just couldn't. After that night, your suspicion faded. Zoro never sang to you again. Your main focus drifted back to Sanji.
However painful, Zoro was okay with that. He just wanted you to be happy.
"It's over, isn't it?
Why can't I move on?"
