Studying journalism wasn't easy when you found out that your team has goofed off again. You sighed annoyed. Your team was goofing off at Tomorrowland. The biggest rave party where thousands of college students from your college would go and spend their semestral break there. Well the problem was that, your class had a project. You had to go and find some crazy stuff from another country to investigate it and spill out all of its secrets. It was papers in a fishbowl type of picking and out of all places it was Norway. No, you didn't have a problem getting the country Norway as your location. The only thing that bothered you was that the country was far from your team, so they can't just drive from Belgium up to there. Then again you were studying abroad and you don't really want to pay the diesel they needed for their trip, so you decided to go to Oslo yourself.
"(Y/n), are you alright?" Your friend and roommate, Alice, asked you as she placed a cup of tea in front of you as you massaged your temples.
"Yeah, just stressed about the whole trip thing." You sighed. "I'm flying for Oslo tomorrow and I can't believe that Amelia and Alfred went to Belgium, and left me here to do the work."
"I wish I can help you, but sadly I'm not taking up journalism."
"It's okay, I can do it myself. I just need help on what weird shit happens there."
"And here comes your weirdness." You rose an eyebrow at her as her eyes darted to the counter where a man in a purple buttoned down shirt and black slacks was ordering something. You looked at him. He had white platinum blonde hair with a strange floating curl on his right held by a cross barrette. Once he faced back with a large cup of coffee, you saw his stoic and mystic lavender eyes that were somehow distant. His face stayed emotionless like he didn't even tried smiling or crying before.
"Who's that?" You asked Alice.
"That's Lukas Bondevik. The Norwegian who graduated this year as a top notcher in journalism."
"Yeah, but how is he weird. I can see the emotionless state and all, but aren't you friends with someone emotionless too?"
"Well, for starters he's a magic user like me."
"Well I'm friends with one."
"But unlike me, he has more chances of meeting other mystical creatures." Now this gave you interest.
"Other creatures?" You sipped your tea. "Like what?"
"Well, fairies, ghost, etc. are the most common ones, but since his family had some encounters with rare ones-"
"Just tell me what are they, please?" You gave her your best puppy dog eyes.
"Fine, I'll skip to the point." You threw your fists in the air and behaved yourself again. "Trolls, he has encountered more trolls than a normal magic user would encounter."
"Hmm... Why? What's the usual number of encounters?" You were a fan of mythological creatures yourself after reading mythology books when you were younger.
"Well meeting them is very rare and occasional, the regular would be one or two. I've met three at my most and that was it."
"And how do you know all of this?"
"Magic glasses." You looked at her thin framed glasses. "They can tell a person's life or history all summed up."
"Cool."
"Now hurry up, isn't your flight in an hour?" You checked your watched and widened your eyes. You drank your tea in one gulp, gathered all of your things and stuffed them into your backpack.
"Thanks for the tea Alice, got to go!" You ran towards the glass doors of the café.
"Hey! You forgot to pay!" Alice yelled.
"I'll give you a souvenir once I get back!" You raced out of the café with papers flying out of your bacpack.
~Time Skip to Oslo~
The cold weather wasn't really a big problem to you. You arrived at a car rental shop where you rented an SUV.
"Takk." You spoke with the little Norwegian language you knew.
The woman nodded as she gave you the guys. You left the small warm wooden shack and hopped in the white SUV. Once you operated the car. You saw another black SUV connected to a trailer home. You rose your eyebrow at it suspicionly. Out of curiosity, you followed it.
Hours later, you lost the strange vehicle on a crossroad. You turned left and drove through the bumpy road finding the vehicle parked near a tire. Your headlights were the only light source you had. Finally you stopped at a small wooden fence that had a sign hung on front. You read the sign.
RESTRICTED AREA, BLASTING AREA.
You rose an eyebrow confused.
"Blasting area?" You rolled your eyes and jumped over the fence. You got your video camera out which had night vision. You thought that it would be a good idea to tape everything since this was weird stuff and you needed that weird stuff.
"Hi, this is (Full name). Studying the course journalism and reporting for the weird crazy events here in Norway." You talked as you placed your video cam in front of your face. "My team is unavailable through the reports and my face will be seen occasionally. Today I just landed in Oslo, Norway about four to five hours ago. I've rented a white SUV and along the way I found a suspicious black SUV dragging a trailer home. I may have lost the vehicle hours ago, but I have found it parked near an unusual area." You went back to the gate and showed the sign. "In the middle of the woods I found a blasting are with a locked wooden gate. I presumed that the person whoever was driving the vehicle entered here and now I must go through the woods and investigate what is going on." You faced your camera up front facing the dark woods.
Your snow crunched under your feet along with twigs and broken branches. The eerie silence consumed you. The only sound around you was the sound of your heavy breathing.
BOOM!
You turned to your left just in time to see a big white flash.
"What the?" You immediately ran towards the area. Before you can even get up hill, you saw a familiar white platinum blonde hair man with the same cross barrette holding his strange floating curl running down the hill.
"Lukas Bondevik?" You exclaimed. "What's going on?"
"No time to explain!" Then you heard a roar. A tree was thrown coming right at you. You were still frozen in place from shock, but Lukas tackled you down just in time as the tree impaled the ground. He helped you stand up as you faced him with weary eyes.
"What the hell was that?"
"A troll, now run." You faced back to video a large burly figure at least thirty feet tall. Lukas didn't waste time and grabbed your arm. You both ran through the deep snow trying to get away from the troll.
"A troll??? Are you kidding me?"
"You saw it with your eyes." You looked back to see the troll still chasing you.
"How long is this going to take to runaway from this thing?"
"What time is it?"
"What!"
"What time is it?" You checked your watch to see the time.
"4:30 a.m, why?"
"To answer your first question, we're going to be running for an hour and a half."
"What?!" Your eyes widened.
"Unless we get to the SUV and drive away quickly." You wanted to smack him for that, but you were thankful that you didn't park that far from the gate.
Then again that was a wrong decision to park near the gate.
Once you both arrived, another tree was thrown and it impaled your rental SUV.
"Oh shit!" You cussed as Lukas led you to his SUV.
"Get in, now!" You rode shotgun as he started the engine. Lukas drive the hell out of the area leaving a troll near the wooden fence and your destroyed SUV.
"Great... Now that adds to my budget." You muttered.
"No need to worry about that." You looked at Lukas, but then again he was right.
"Okay, question time." You spoke facing your camera at him. "So trolls exist in this world?"
"You've seen one just now."
"Are they usually this violent?"
"Unless you enter their territory."
"Then why did you enter?" You looked at him with your eyelids half closed.
"There is a ski lodge around this area and I can't take the risks of those people getting hurt. That's my job."
"Excuse me, but what is your job exactly?"
"And what is your business here to interrogate me Ms. (Full name)?"
"How do you know my name?"
"How do you know mine?"
"Touché Bondevik." You commented. "A friend of mine told me your name, now tell me how did you know mine."
"I can read minds so I searched for your name in your mind." He said not taking his eyes off the road. "And you are now thinking about the events back there."
"Stop reading my mind and changing the subject." You glared at him. "Answer my question, what is your job to be exact?" He sighed.
"I'm a veteran troll hunter."
"A troll hunter? And a veteran at this?" He nodded. "How long have you been working as a troll hunter?"
"Twelve years."
"And how old are you?"
"Twenty-four, I started at the age of twelve since it was family tradition."
"Tough life I guess?"
"Indeed, I took up journalism to study about strange events that might've been caused by trolls."
"How can you be sure that it was caused by trolls? I mean there were no trolls on the news."
"Trolls are only visible to those who use magic and to those mortals who can see through the invisible veil that covers the reality of mythology."
"So you're saying that mythological creatures exist?" Your eyes showed a spark of excitement.
"Ja."
"Oh my god, that's.... That's... " you started to freak out, but calmed down when Lukas was looking at you weirdly. "Okay, I'm speechless." You blushed in embarrassment.
"I haven't met a single non-magic user that can see through the veil." He looked at you not turning his head. "Do you do magic?" You shook your head.
"No, but I can actual see through it since I was young. Ghost, fairies, dwarves, mermaids, etc." You answered. "My friend is a magic user and I can see her pet, Flying Mint Bunny."
"Incredible." He complimented.
"So I've got a question to ask."
"What is it?"
You cleared your throat. "May I join you on your hunt?" He rose his eyebrow at you and you sighed. "I've decided to join your expedition on troll hunting."
"What are your reasons?"
"I require a report about unusual events in another country and I was assigned to the country Norway." You spoke confidently. "And that would cause me my grades if I don't succeed."
"And your life." You stared at him. "You'll be facing the consequences of danger and supernatural encounters that no person has encounter before. Are you willing to do this (Y/n)?"
You inhaled and exhaled deeply. "Yes, I am willing to face the consequences." He took his hand out and you shook it.
"Welcome aboard to my life as a troll hunter (Y/n)."
There will be a part two.
Ciao for now!
