Nostalgia (Scotland x Reader)
Be warned for a lot of flashbacks.
-Pumpkin
The red-headed man walked along the pavement smoking a cigarette with a bottle of scotch and two glasses in his hands, and a bouquet of flowers in his arms. Today was the anniversary of his confession. The day he told his beloved that he loves her and the day that he ran away with her.
The evergreen scenery of the hill where he met her, right beneath the great old oak. He remembered it as if he just met her yesterday.
~Flashback~
He was smoking a cigarette on top of the oak with a scowl on his face. The presence of his anger was still visible. His boss was able to piss him off trying to convince many suggestions for the country. One was him marrying another country and he didn't like the sound of that.
As crazy as it sounds, but he actually wants to pick his own love, his own bride. Sometimes he wished that he wasn't a personification of his country. Sometimes he wished that he could be normal.
"Um, excuse me sir."
The angry man heard a small voice below the tree. He saw a girl. She had her (h/c) in a single braid, she wore a white dress with an apron stained with flour, and a basket in her hand while the other had an apple with a bite.
"What do you want?" He asked her.
She pointed at the grass below the tree that was burning from the previous cigarettes he smoked before she came.
"Oh shit." He jumped down from the tree and tried to put out the fire with his jacket.
The girl gave a slight giggle as she helped the man put out the fire.
~Flashback End~
It was awkward, but a very sweet meeting to him. Little did he know back then that he would be marrying the same girl he used to be so annoyed with the sweetness down to the sarcastic remarks she made and the looks she gave him with her (e/c) eyes.
"Alistair!" He smiled once he saw his beloved on top of the hill.
The only air you can sense around them was pure warmth of happiness. The gentleness of the mood gave made him soft and caring towards her.
"Good afternoon lass." He greeted his lover with a kiss.
"Good afternoon Mr. Scotland." She giggled lightly.
She sat down on the grass beneath the tree where they first met. Alistair gave the flowers to her as he poured them both some scotch.
The two relaxed against the sturdy trunk of the tree and looked at the leaves above them.
"Remember-"
"September?"
The both of them laughed.
~Flashback~
It was rainy and windy. It was somewhere late in September. The days when he still courted her.
"(Y/n)! (Y/n)!" Alistair yelled in the pouring rain. "(Y/n)!"
The girl opened her curtains to see her suitor in the rain.
"Alistair?!" She whispered frantically as she rushed to the door.
With no further words, she let the cold and damp man in, and immediately gave him a blanket.
"What are you doing here? My parents are going to execute me once they find out that a country-suitor of mine is in the house." She panicked.
"Are your parents even home?"
"No! But they'll be soon enough." She sighed and shook her head. "It doesn't matter, at least you're warm here."
She added more wood into the fireplace as the country sat in front and kept himself warm. She say beside him and sighed.
"You know that you can no longer court me right?" She spoke as the cackling of the flames gave a mood.
"I don't care." Alistair answered. "As long as I get to see you-"
"I'm engaged."
"I know."
(Y/n) looked at Alistair with shock. The Scottish man looked at her with his now serious green eyes. He knew about her fiancé, he knew about the wedding, he knew about the plan. But he wasn't giving up. He wasn't going to give up on someone he truly loved for the first time.
Tears started to form in her eyes. Guilt washed upon her. She couldn't stand getting married to someone she didn't love, to someone who can't read her like a book or even get to to know her properly without courting.
"What are you going to do about it then?" She asked him.
"I don't know- kidnap you maybe?" She frowned as the country chuckled. "Or, if you're willing, then how about you runaway with me, huh? I'll sweep you away from this and we'll live happily ever after."
"Running away... It doesn't sound as bad as it does huh?" She thought about it and smiled. "Fine, I'll run away with you with one condition."
"Anything lass."
"Don't you ever leave my side or I'll haunt you as a Banshee."
Alistair chuckled.
"Alright, lets seal the deal then... If you would allow me of course."
(Y/n) smiled.
He looked at her lips and back to her bright eyes that shone like diamonds. Slowly they came closer together, leaning towards each other and finally sealing the gap with a kiss.
A sense of euphoria washed over the two. Their first kiss was the day the girl he loved accepted his love.
~Flashback End~
(Y/n) smiled at the memory as she pulled a tress of her hair behind her ear. She noticed her husband drinking his scotch that made her remember the night of their wedding.
"Hm, the most embarrassing time you drank scotch here was the time you got drunk during the night of our wedding." She recalled.
"How was it?" He wiggled his eyebrows at her as she laughed.
"The best, and maybe your worst tricks in wooing me."
~Flashback~
She can still recall the smell of the alcohol and the burned cigarettes during that night, and the dancing fire that gave them light and warmth out at night alone together.
"Aye! What a lucky man am I!"
She shook her head at her new husband's cheerful mood. He was drunk from the scotch he drank. Pitiful bastard, but he was charming in a way.
"It'a because I've go the moves lass!" He lifted her up making her laugh. "I've got the moves of a graceful swan~!"
"More like the graceful moves of a bear dancing in the circus."
He sniffed her neck that tickled her and made her giggle.
"Hmm, lass I can tell you why you always smell this good."
"How?"
"Because the tulips you have are always between those two lips of yours." He laughed.
"Nice try." She rolled her eyes.
He laid her gently on the grass as he hovered above her, looking at the sight of the pure bliss of his life. Someone he can finally have a moment together with, someone he would cherish until the end of the days.
"I love you." He whispered in a gentle voice that reeked with alcohol, but she didn't mind. "Forever and always."
"I love you too, forever and always."
~Flashback End~
"Best day of my life." (Y/n) punched his shoulder playfully trying to snap him out of his dirty thoughts.
The both of them laughed and looked at each other.
The couple was happy. Joyful and youthful. But sometimes we have to learn to let go.
"I wish you could come we me to see the world." Alistair smiled at her sadly.
"You know that I'll always be here for you right?" She blew a tress of her hair away from her forehead. "Besides, it's not like I'm gone forever."
She looked at the tree where her gravestone lies beneath. It was made out of marble especially for her and was carved by Alistair himself.
(Full Name)
A loving wife and daughter.
I'll love you forever and always my lass.
1899-1945
"The only difference is that I'm just stuck here." She sighed. "I'll wait for you here always."
"But you'll be stuck here forever or worst." Alistair looked away.
(Y/n) caressed his face. She may be a ghost, but if it is a lover who loves her a lot and she loves him back then she can be felt physically by him.
"I don't mind."
Alistair faced her and pressed his forehead against hers. Tears rolled down his face as she wiped them away with her thumb.
"As long as I see you, I'll wait for that day even if it is the end of the world." She gave him a kiss and smiled.
"You still haunt me, but not as a Banshee at least." Alistair chuckled.
Before they parted ways again, they shared one last kiss as a tradition.
Sometimes you just can't let the past go. You just want to stick with it forever and maybe believe that it's still there. The sense of that nostalgia you feel would make you feel something inside, make you cry, feel more, suffer more, or even feel guilty. You can even find your own bliss by just remembering. You can't simply let the past go. It is something you should bring to remember those who helped you up and bring you into this journey.
That's why she chose to stay. For him to remember and he chose to stay to remember her.
I actually made two Scotland x Readers and I don't know when I'll be publishing the other one since it's almost done. Also give me some thoughts here hahaha, I haven't written any feelsy shots in a very long time.
Auf Wiedershen for now!
