kagehina | dance with me
hinata was sat on a high stool, watching kageyama cook. he really was a whiz in the kitchen, and his food was way better than anything hinata's mother could make. hinata was constantly bragging about how amazing his dinners were ever since kageyama started staying over more. he was currently entranced in the stir-fry type dish kageyama was whipping up.
tonight, hinata's mother was off at work and his younger sister was at a sleepover, so the boys had the place all to themselves. "kageyama, can i play some music from your phone? mine is dead," hinata asked, frowning at his own mobile.
kageyama didn't look up from his pan. "go ahead," he muttered absently.
"yay!" hinata cheered. kageyama smiled slightly at the smaller boy's enthusiasm for such a small thing, but soon turned focused again on his cooking. hinata opened up the music app and scrolled through. he decided that he would go through kageyama's playlists and see which one he would like best.
kageyama had several playlists, and hinata didn't feel like going through all of the songs of each one. he decided to pick the one with the best title. as he was scrolling mindlessly, one name caught his eye. it was titled hinata ♡. he smiled brightly and was about to tease kageyama about it, but then he stopped himself.
"how long does it take to pick music?" kageyama said, finally looking up from the pan. the food was done, and he was dividing it on to two plates.
"i was just looking through your playlists. i think i found one i'd like," hinata grinned like a fool.
"which one?" kageyama asked. hinata didn't he answer, he only pressed shuffle on the playlist. the opening chords to heart like mine by williamette stone started to play.
kageyama froze. he turned into a blushing mess. he knew that song was only on one playlist, because he listened to that playlist often. as mushy as it was, he couldn't help himself.
"i- uhm, i can explain that, you see, my m-"
"shut up loser," hinata interrupted. "and dance with me."
he whispered the last part, and kageyama didn't hear him. "what?"
hinata laughed and rolled his eyes. "dance with me!" he exclaimed, grabbing kageyama's wrist and pulling him away from the counters.
"oh- i- okay," kageyama resided. he laced one of hinata's hands in his, and rested his other hand on hinata's waist. hinata squeezed his hand happily and put his own hand on the back of kageyama's neck.
kageyama mumbled along to the lyrics. he kissed hinata's cheek, causing a blush to form upon it. kageyama thought it was unbearably adorable when hinata blushed, and hinata found it unbearably adorable that kageyama knew every word to the song.
"i'm surprised you know how to do this," hinata mused.
"shut up dumbass," kageyama mumbled. "of course i know how to do this."
"who else have you danced with before?" hinata suddenly asked, his big brown eyes boring into kageyama's dark blue ones.
"what?"
"you can dance like a pro. i-i just assumed that ah, maybe you had done this before," hinata stuttered. kageyama was shocked by the fact he was stuttering; hinata normally wasn't one to be shy.
"i've never danced with a partner," kageyama offered, spinning hinata around.
hinata giggled softly. "i find that hard to believe."
kageyama smiled softly. "well it's true. i guess i must've gotten good, practicing for this moment in my mirror." he blushed at the end, as did hinata. neither boy said a word, until the song faded into the next.
"all of this songs are slow," hinata chuckled as the pair adjusted to the beat of the song. "was this planned?"
bashfully, kageyama turned his eyes to the floor. "well.. no."
"hmm?" hinata rose his eyebrows smugly.
"you weren't supposed to find this playlist.. it was just for me," kageyama confessed.
hinata blinked. "oh," he whispered, a blush washing over his entire face. his smile was small, but the gleam in his eyes told kageyama he was flattered.
"well, i mean, when you aren't around," kageyama spun hinata around again. "it's hard for me.."
"awe, you mean you miss me?" hinata teased.
"shut up dumbass," kageyama scolded, but he was blushing.
hinata kissed kageyama's nose. "i miss you when we aren't together too," he said softly.
"we're such saps," kageyama groaned. hinata giggled. "i mean look at us, we're dancing to ed sheeran in your kitchen, talking about how much we miss each other when the other is away."
"you're right," hinata agreed. "but i love it."
"i do too," kageyama replied. they danced in a comfortable silence, and for a moment, it felt like all the stars hung in the balance and the planets aligned.
friends just sleep in another bed, and friends don't treat me like you
i know there's a limit to everything, but my friends won't love me like you

music was still playing quietly in the background of their dinner, something neither boy minded. "why did you decide to make that playlist?" hinata asked out of the blue.
kageyama stayed quiet for a moment. "well.. i love you."
hinata was shocked into silence. they had been dating for a while, sure, and kageyama would compliment him and say cute things to him, but those three words hadn't come out of either boys' mouths. that is, not until now. he was surprised kageyama was the first to say it.
noting hinata's silence, kageyama put his fork down. "god, i'm sorry, i didn't-"
"no," hinata cut in. "don't apologize. i.. i love you too," he blushed, looking down at his plate.
"y-you.. you do?" kageyama was looking stright into hinata's eyes.
hinata blushed harder, if that was the correct phrasing, or if it was even possible. "of course i do."
"just.. making sure.. i was, you know, living up to your standards.." kageyama swallowed thickly.
"you've been above standard with all this lovey-dovey stuff lately," hinata half-joked. he was seriously loving this cute side of kageyama.
kageyama smirked. "oh really?" he got up and offered his hand.
hinata blinked. "what?"
"jesus christ you moron, may i have this dance?"
hinata grinned. "you may."
