kagahina | don't fly without me
kageyama bit his lip; the only time he was this nervous was before a really important volleyball game. hinata's flight had already been delayed an hour, and he was beyond stressed that the flight would never show up. he could barely wait a minute for hinata to be back, much less another hour. his anxiety levels would spike anytime an announcement went over the loud speakers. he probably looked like a crazy person, tapping his feet and fingers. no one else seemed this nerved up.
he went and bought another coffee. of course, hinata's flight was practically in the middle of the night, and now it was delayed, so it'd be even later. the woman at the cash register looked at him curiously. "sir, at this point, i wouldn't bother getting another coffee. you'll be awake for the next week."
kageyama shook his head. "i need a drink."
"i'll just get you a large smoothie, on the house. i need to get home," the woman said. "what flavor would you like?"
kageyama muttered a response and looked around the airport. there were three other people, besides himself and any employees. one woman held a baby, sleeping soundly in her arms while she read a magazine. a man sat on his laptop, furiously tapping at the keys. the other person were sleeping. he figured maybe he should try and catch some sleep too, but hinata's flight would land anytime now, and he didn't want to miss it.
"sir," the cashier called. "your smoothie?" kageyama nodded wordlessly and took the drink from her. "have a good night. or morning."
he grinned at the woman. "you too." he stalked over to his previous spot and sat down. his knee bounced up and down in anticipation. why the hell couldn't the flight arrive yet?
"sir?" a voice interrupted his thoughts and startled him. he turned around to see a security guard. "i didn't mean to scare you. are you alright?"
"i'm f-fine," he stuttered. "just waiting for someone."
the woman nodded. "oh, do i know the feeling. i wish you good luck. have a good day!"
kageyama just nodded politely. he currently was not having a very good day. why could the god damn plane come any faster? hinata had been away for a week already; he didn't need the extra suffering. he sipped his smoothie and decided maybe he should get some type of book or magazine or something to distract him.
there was currently only one book shop open, so he hurried into it. the worker seemed as tired as kageyama was, so neither one exchanged any words. he picked up a book that seemed interesting and brought it up to the cash register. again, the only words said were concerning the price of the book and both boys seemed fine with that.
kageyama was hoping the book would keep his mind off of things, but he was terribly mistaken. even concentrating as hard as he could, he couldn't stop glancing at the clock or the door where hinata was supposed to enter. "i really need a volleyball," he muttered, but if he drove home to get one, he was afraid he'd miss hinata. he stayed put.
kageyama was so worried. questions spiraled through his head. are they close? have they hit turbulence? is hinata okay? is the plane working? what if they've crashed? when will i be able to see my boyfriend again?
if anyone could read his thoughts, he'd definitely deny every one that was coming to his head. but right now, he wasn't freaking out about mind readers - he was freaking out about this horrible waiting. he knew hinata would never be this nervous. he'd be impossibly impatient and excited. these thoughts were meant to comfort him, but they only made him miss hinata more.
he finally decided he needed to calm himself down. he took a deep breath and sighed heavily. everything will be fine. hinata will be fine. the plane will stay in the air. the flight will come in five minutes. everything will be okay.
but it wasn't okay. as it turned out, the flight was delayed another hour and had just taken off. kageyama wanted to rip his hair out. why couldn't it be any other plane? why hinata's?
if the team was here right now, he'd be a deadman. they would never let him forget he was a softy who got worried about his boyfriend's plane. especially tsukishima. but then again, kageyama had heard some of his phone calls to yamaguchi. he smirked at the thought. when the two had announced they were dating to the team, everyone replied, "we knew!" and they both seemed so shocked. honestly, it was so obvious.
when him and hinata told the team, because they told the team right after they started dating, people were handing others money. they had placed bets on whether or not the pair would start dating. to this day, it still made kageyama laugh, and that was hard to do. the thing he remembers most clearly though was the look on daichi and sugawara's faces. they both side glanced at each other and smiled. kageyama thinks maybe they're a couple, they're just to nervous to tell anyone. but then again, what does he know about relationships? he was a nervous wreck when he asked hinata to be his, almost as nervous as he was now.
it seemed like another hour passed by until the flight finally landed. kageyama stayed sitting, searching the crowd for the orange haired boy. there were so many people, and he didn't see hinata until several people had cleared out. he must've sat at the back of the plane. "kageyama!"
kageyama didn't say a word, just smiled and stood up. he opened up his arms and hinata dropped his suitcase. he ran and jumped up onto kageyama, wrapping his arms around his back and burrowing his face in his neck. kageyama supported hinata with both arms.
"fuck you, fuck you, fuck. you." kageyama mumbled.
"what?" hinata asked, leaning back from kageyama's neck. "what did i do?"
"not you. that plane. it took you away from me," kageyama replied. he didn't want to burst into tears in the airport, but it seemed he was going to. "god, i missed you."
hinata giggled. "i missed you too." he released himself from kageyama's grip and grabbed his suitcase. he offered his free hand to kageyama, who gladly took it.
as they walked through the maze of an airport, kageyama took a deep breath. "don't ever leave me that long. please."
hinata grinned and poked his cheek. "how many coffees did you have?"
kageyama blinked. "what?"
"when you drink a lot of coffee you turn into a total softy." hinata giggled.
"oh."
"hey, i'm not complaining," hinata held up his hands in defense. "but next time, maybe i'll let you come along."
"that'd be nice. i don't want you to fly without me."
hinata blushed. "come on, you big sap. let's go home."
