1: As The Snow Falls

Bonnie sighed and threw herself onto the hotel bed. She'd been travelling for what felt like forever and had only just got to Bristol. As much as she wanted to close her eyes and rest, she couldn't. She needed to tell her long-time friend Alex Smith of her arrival.

Bonnie laughed to herself. 'Long-time friend'. That's not entirely true. Yeah, they were friends but, really, they were more than that.  Ever since their mutual friend Trott introduced the two a few years ago, they'd shared many kisses and other, ahem, amorous exchanges. But it's only when Bonnie is in town. When she's away, they act as if they're nothing more than friends. Bonnie wished nothing more than for it to be something more than a 'friends with benefits' relationship. But how could she make that move if she didn't know if Alex felt the same?

Bonnie removed herself from her thoughts, pulling out her phone to call a certain tall, blue-eyed ginger man.

"Hello? Bonnie?" a voice rang out from the other end of the phone call.

"Hey, Alex," Bonnie said tiredly.

"Hey are you in Bristol yet?"

"Yep," Bonnie said, popping the 'p'.

"Awh sweet!" Alex cheered and, though she couldn't see it, Bonnie knew Alex was smiling. "I can't wait to see you!"

"I can't to see you either. Are Trott and Ross around?"

"Oh, am I suddenly not good enough for you?" Alex said, smirking all the while.

"You are perfectly fine," Bonnie giggled. "I just wanted to say hi."

"They'll be over soon. Do you want to come over?"

The moment Alex said those words, Bonnie perked up, forgetting all about how tired she was.

"Yeah," Bonnie said with a nod. "I'll be over soon. See ya."

"Okay, bye."

Bonnie jumped up from the bed and skipped over to the armchair where she'd laid her coat and scarf. She put the garments on, walking over to the full length mirror on the wall. She began playing with her hair, trying to make it fall in just the way she wanted. It didn't really matter how she did her hair, as the wind would just mess it up the second she stepped outside, but she made an effort anyway.

She stared at herself in the mirror, deep in thought. Tonight's the night, she thought. Tonight's the night she told Alex how she felt.

"Tonight is the night," Bonnie said strongly, giving herself a reassuring smile. She straightened out her striped scarf before heading out into the cold.

Alex couldn't stop smiling. He just got off the phone with Bonnie and to his delight, she was coming over. He ran off to the bathroom, sliding a bit and almost falling as he was wearing socks. He stood in front of the mirror and ran his hand through his hair, but the effort was in vain. His hair only went into a slightly more organized state of what many fangirls describe as 'the hottest floofy mess of hair you've ever seen in your whole life'. And he was okay with that.

"Would she want food?" Alex wondered aloud, stepping into the kitchen. "I guess I could make something..."

He opened the refrigerator to get something to cook but there was hardly anything in there. He began rooting through the cupboards only to find the same result.

"F**k," he swore under his breath, remembering how long it'd been since either he or his housemate had gone grocery shopping. "Takeaway it is, then."

He pulled his phone out of his pocket and dialled the familiar number of the local Chinese takeaway place. He ordered food and sat the couch. He took this time to think.

Bonnie would be here soon. He'd finally get to see her after what felt like forever. He missed her sparkling blue eyes, her gorgeous blonde hair, and he missed the fact that, while she was taller than a lot of the other girls he knew, he still had to lean down to kiss her. And oh how he wanted to kiss her.

He sighed sadly at the thought of their current relationship status. They weren't technically dating, but they may as well be. That was never really discussed, and Alex was inclined to believe it was because Bonnie didn't feel the way he did. He felt as though she wasn't looking for a serious relationship. He didn't care about the specifics of it, as long he could be with her for at least a little while.

After what felt like forever, Alex heard a knock at the door. He wasn't sure if it was the takeaway or Bonnie but he straightened himself anyways, just in case. He opened the door and gave the visitor a huge smile. On the other side of the door stood Bonnie, her striped scarf covering the bottom half of her face and her hair in a state of windswept craziness.

"Come in," Alex said, his smile still in place as he stepped aside to let the freezing girl inside his apartment.

"Thanks," Bonnie said gratefully as she stepped in. "It's flippin' freezing out there!"

"I know," Alex said with a slight chuckle. "You want a blanket or something?"

"No, I'm okay," Bonnie declined as she sat on a couch, taking off her coat and scarf and laying them on the armrest. Alex sat on a couch opposite her.

"You sure?" Alex asked. Bonnie nodded. "Okay then. Are you hungry?"

"Yeah," Bonnie nodded.

"Good. I ordered takeaway."

"Cool. So, what are your plans for Christmas?"

The two began to talk about every subject under the Sun and it wasn't until well after they'd eaten that the conversation hit a lull. It was in that time that Bonnie felt the confidence to tell Alex of her feelings.

"Alex?" Bonnie said, her voice smaller than intended. Alex looked to her with anticipation.

"Yeah?" he asked.

"Um..." Bonnie trailed off, uncertain of how to continue. She furrowed her eyebrows in thought.

"Bonnie?" Alex said, asking her to continue her thoughts. Perhaps she should just go for it...

"How do you feel about me?" Bonnie blurted out. Alex expression showed surprise and that scared her. Oh, what have I done, she thought.

"I-I'm sorry," Bonnie stammered, standing from her seat. "I-I didn't mean-"

"No no," Alex interrupted, also standing from his seat. He walked closer to her and placed his hand gently on her cheek, "don't apologize. I love you, Bonnie."

Bonnie couldn't respond. She wanted to, but she was too busy smiling like a madman. Her heart was beating so fast that she felt like it would explode.

"I love you too," she finally managed to say. Alex smiled and leaned forward to kiss her. Bonnie eyes shifted for a second to the window to the side. Alex's lips were inches from hers when she squealed and jumped away. She ran out the front door, leaving Alex standing there and very confused.

He looked out the window and saw small flecks of white falling from the sky. Alex chuckled and grabbed her coat before slipping on his own and going outside. He smiled when he saw her standing on the snowy pavement, happily looking around the snowy landscape. He walked over to her and helped her put her coat on.

"I've never seen snow before," Bonnie said in awe. She turned to face Alex, her eyes full of wonder and small snowflakes caught in her eyelashes.

"I can tell," Alex chuckled, his breath visible in the air. "I can't believe you haven't, though."

"Geography's a b*tch," she said with smirk. Alex laughed and took her hand.

"You're so cute," he said, smiling down at Bonnie. Bonnie looked up at him with a grin. She felt her face heat up in embarrassment, which she was thankful for in this cold weather. "Come on let's get some hot chocolate and wait for Trott and Ross to get here. They'll wanna see you."

"Can we wait outside?" Bonnie asked, her face full of hope.

"Of course," Alex smiled. Oh, the little things. Those are what he loves the most.

.....
