Problem (Levi x Reader)

Every night she sat outside of the castle on a table, her feet propped onto the seat, looking up at the night sky valuing the few minutes of peace she had alone. He would watch her from a distance- every night she would be there, sneaking out of her room in the middle of the night like a quiet mouse.

The first night he noticed this was the day he ordered her to clean the kitchen as punishment of waking up late everyday for two weeks, but she obliged.

It was strange for a cadet- one that had been in the regiment for months- to be unaccustomed to waking up early. He had his suspicions but never bothered to investigate.

On that night on his way to the kitchen to fetch a glass of water, he saw a strange figure sitting right outside underneath the windows of his room. He didn't say anything, nor was he planning to get her into trouble for he enjoyed seeing someone else enjoy peace and quiet, but he didn't know her true intentions.

The next few days he watched the sky along with her, even if he watched from the window and she watched down below. Of course, she wasn't aware she had company who was enjoying hers.

One day he would join her, one day.

Although they have only exchanged a few words from time to time- as a cadet and a captain- he was interested in her, and as much as he tried to deny his feelings for her he failed to fulfill it.

She was under the impression that he was emotionally blocked which would explain why he made such a great captain. Although he mourned the deaths of his cadets, he never wasted time and moved on. It was part of why she didn't bother chasing after him and only admired him from afar. It was appropriate to say that she was afraid; afraid that if she was gone, she would just be another statistic. Another casualty to him.

It was not only that however, because recently, she felt as though he was working her to the core with his constant orders, and it was just her that he ordered amply- not Oluo, not Gunther, not even Eren.

As discreet as he tried to be with his feelings, Hange was the one who noticed it the most. She noticed that this particular cadet had more duties than the others; but they weren't heavy duties, he mainly ordered her to bring him documents and send messages. Hange called him out for it, but he told her to keep quiet about it.

On the third week of seeing her sit under the dark sky, he decided he would join her.

Today he would join her. He would.

"Do you mind if I join?" he asked, standing on the door, holding a cup of tea. She was startled to hear his voice- it was too late at night for anyone else to be awake.

"Captain Levi," she got up from the table and saluted him. "sure, you can join."

"At ease, cadet." He continued to walk towards the table as she dropped her arms and hands. "You don't have to call.me captain, you can call me Levi. It's after hours." He sat down on the seat and she followed suit.

She didn't respond, instead, she stiffened.

"What are you doing out here so late?" he asked her, quietly sipping -from what she predicted to be- green tea.

She stayed quiet for a while, "I just often enjoy being alone." she said. He didn't respond, prompting her to expand, "I just like to think and distract myself and to forget about my problems."

He looked up at the sky with her, "To be quite truthful," he started, "I've been doing the exact same these past few weeks."

"Really?" she looked at him.

"I've seen you sit out here for the last three weeks and wondered why, and I found myself looking at the sky too." he said. It was odd for her to hear him talk like that since whenever they did talk it would just all be business.

"How come I haven't seen you at all?" she asked him thinking about all the stupid things she's done while she thought she was alone.

"I saw you from the window- I figured why you always came late for the morning meals." he sipped from his tea, lustfully ingesting it like it was air, his adam's apple moving with each gulp.

"Yeah, sorry." she pursed her lips and smiled, trying to contain her laughter from her foolish actions.

There was a long silence between them which was only filled with Levi sipping his drink.

"How do you deal with problems, Captain Levi?" she finally asked; it was the question that everyone seeked the answer to.

"I take it out on cleaning," He said. "It helps me think." At this point, she felt like all the answers to the meaning or purpose of life or how the universe was made was not important in contrast to this answer. Everything made sense.

"I see." she nodded and looked down at her fingers.

"But I think I should start doing what you're doing, it's quite effective. If you don't mind me joining you." she smiled at the thought of being alone with him for a few minutes every night.

"I don't mind at all. I've always wanted a companion. I just didn't expect it to be you." she replied. "It's just that you're pretty reserved and-"

"Hard to approach, right?" he interrupted, "It's not the first time I've heard that."

She was astounded, but she stayed quiet.

"Well you've proved them wrong." she replied, "I'm able to comfortably talk with you now. I understand why other cadets would think that of you, it's because at a time like this, we really cannot be all friendly and shit," she covered her mouth. "sorry, filthy word."

He looked at her with his stoic face, "I don't fucking mind." and looked back at the sky.

She laughed at his response to which made his heart beat harder. He responded with a tiny and unnoticable smirk.

"Okay, it's time to sleep." he got up from the table and she followed, walking into the castle.

"I'll see you tomorrow," he said as she opened the door to her room, "better be at my office on time, cadet. You still have work to do."

She saluted, "Yes sir, I'll see you tomorrow as well, 10 minutes into breakfast."

"Late again, I see." he stated, "goodnight, (y/n).

"Goodnight, Levi." she said, walking into the room and closed the door.

She walked towards her bed, ready to slump into comfort and was stopped by a knock on her door.

She answered it, "Yes, Captain Levi?"

"I forgot to say goodnight... Goodnight." he said, not looking at her whatsoever.

"You already said goodnight, captain. Goodnight though," she smiled and closed the door as he walked away.

He knocked on the door after a couple of seconds.

"Yes, captain Levi?" she chuckled.

He sighed. "I'm very interested in you. And although we haven't talked much, you've grown on me." She was stunned, her face grew red at what he said. "I just wanted to tell you because it's been my main concern for the past few weeks actually." he ran a hand through his hair. "Watching the sky with you even from a distance helped me temporarily forget those problems."

"I would lie if I said I didn't feel mutual." she bit her lip nervously.

"I see," he looked straighed into her eyes, "that's good to hear. I'll see you tomorrow night cadet. Thank you for solving my problem." he quickly discharged from the conversation as a result of his poor way of expressing his feelings.

"Alright, Captain Levi. See you too." she smiled as she closed the door once again. She sighed and pressed her forehead against the door as she pondered about what just occured.

For the last time, he knocked on the door.

"What is it, Captain Levi? I already told you I like you." she said as she opened the door, crossing her arms.

"I forgot something," he replied, "Erwin advised me to do this if it turned out the way I predicted."

He gave her a quick peck on the lips which he wished would have lasted a second longer.

She blushed profusely, stunned by what the stoic, emotionless man had just done.

"Goodnight, (y/n)." he said as he started off to his room.

"Goodnight, Levi." she smiled as she closed the door for the last time that night.
