Midnight of Mystery
Well, this was a group purroject, my friends suggested me some points and I had to frame it up, make cliffhangers, plot twists, strange and mysterious aura and EVERYTHING ELSE.
Gosh, it didn't even seem like a group purroject tbh..
Anyways, let's start!
...
Elissa Carnegie was a very ambitious girl. She wanted to become a world-famous photographer. She had recently graduated from The New York Institute of Photography, which you can easily tell, is situated in New York City, USA. She had to get some breathtaking and adventurous photograph samples clicked by her to get one of the best jobs in the world, she could actually become a Hollywood camera girl! It was truly a dream come true for her, but the thing is, she's never really taken an adventurous photograph. "Now I really have to think, an adventurous place with a breathtaking view which I can capture in my camera... Where could this place possibly be? ".
After days of searching, she finally came across a spot, on Google which was perfect. "Mount Ouray, here I come!" she said. She booked her tickets for the Municipality of Ouray, she packed her bags and quickly booked a taxi for the airport. She was as ready as she could possibly be for her adventure. Little did she know it was bigger than it seemed.
She reached the city, it was more beautiful in real life than in the pictures. The sun was waving at the horizon as it came up. Without further ado, she got ready with her hiking material and her camera. Within the next few minutes, The sun had come up completely and Elissa had started climbing the magnificent mountain called Mount Ouray. She took breaks and continued climbing.
"Just a few more meters Elissa, you got this" she thought. That's when her bad luck ticked in, her hand mistakenly fell on a lizard, and because she was extremely afraid of reptiles, she screamed and lost her grip. The next moment, Elissa was falling off of the mountain range. She thought this was the end of her life, but it obviously wasn't, at least not yet. She landed safely inside a lake, she didn't get wet at all, and what was weirder was that there were no lakes near Mount Ouray! She was in the middle of a forest, an unknown forest. She looked around only to be greeted by a cave which had a strange shine. She headed towards the cave, unsure of what was inside. As soon as she got in, it seemed like time stopped. This was not the same forest; it was definitely not. The place was covered with strange flowers which were star shaped, and each flower had a coin in center, strange coins.
The day had turned to night, she looked behind her, hoping to see the cave, but like in every other story, it wasn't there. She should've thought. Now she couldn't help but hope it is a dream and she'd wake up any moment now. She looked around, in hope of an exit, but what she saw next made her scream. The pitch black sky was filled with stars, as it should, but this wasn't what surprised her, it was the planetary system she could see. The solar system, it was in the sky... it only meant one thing... SHE WAS ON ANOTHER PLANET!
She started screaming, she couldn't help it. Her screaming awoke the creatures who lived there, and they came to see what the matter was. Their chief came up first and started screaming at seeing her. Elissa screamed as she looked at the tiny red colored aliens with pointed ears and an antenna on top of their heads. She screamed, they screamed, everyone else screamed. The peaceful atmosphere there was nothing but screams. They all kept on screaming until their vocal cords gave up, and coincidentally, they all gave up at the same time.
"That... was tiring" Elissa panted.
"Sure... indeed... stranger... who are you?" The chief asked.
"I-I am Elissa Carnegie, I-I from the earth, how do I return?"
"Earth?!" The chief repeated in shock. There were whispers among the crowd and after a while, they all stopped. "I am Colton, the chief of the Sapotis. Welcome to the precious planet of Starlight, the land of... *sigh* midnight" (Heh... the miraculer in me... woops!)
"Starlight? That's supposed to be a name for the land where there's light, right?"
"That's our problem... and it can only be solved by a being from earth"
Elissa was confused, but she knew one thing for sure, maybe not Mount Ouray, but this could be a better adventure. A better chance for a breathtaking photograph.
She walked throughout the beautiful land, turned out it was a hill. Once they reached the very end of it, there lay the beautiful & United Kingdom of Starlight, where the Sapotis were free. These creatures were special, they were given a boon, no one of their kind would be evil. They didn't need a king, because they were the true definition of a team. They didn't need a leader, because they could all lead themselves. "Why were there coins in those weird flowers?"
"Flowers? What are flowers?" Colton asked. He had heard this word for the first time.
"Uh... these, these strange things growing on the ground?" Elissa said, plucking one.
"Oh, the Flores... I don't really know if there are coins or not. We cannot see circular objects, no alien can, except the earth beings. Our problem would've already been solved if we could see them" he said.
"I'm lost..." Elissa said.
"I'll tell you everything. Let's first get to the main house"
"Okay?" Elissa said, still confused. She had no idea about what this problem is, but it was surely big. Colton, Elissa and two other sapotis, who were probably the assistants or helpers of Colton, walked on through the middle of the city. The gap between them and the great structure in front of them kept on decreasing, and soon, they reached their destination.
The world of starlight surely was beautiful, no doubt. Elissa looked at every single structure in awe, especially the one that stood in front of her now, it was a beautiful temple-like structure with about 4 floors which was made of some kind of blue & purple stone. The fragrance of flowers was all over the place, even Parisian perfume couldn't compete with it. The four slowly went in and settled down around a strange yet uniquely designed table.
Two plated of Star shaped cookies were bought, along with four glasses of bluish white water.
Elissa took a bite from the cookie, and she felt like she could eat them all her life. "This is delicious!" she complimented.
"Thank You" The two sapotis with pink aprons said. She sipped up the bluish white drink, "tastes like hot chocolate!" she said.
"You may start your story, Sir Colton" she said.
"No need to add formalities. Okay, I'll start."
"Just like you, years ago, a human being came to starlight, our world wasn't the same, it was slightly chaotic and the sky was full of light, unlike now. He somehow hypnotized us with some kind of locket and became our king. He created chaos everywhere but one day, we all awoke. Whenwe did, we all turned up against him. He did some kind of magic on us and thewhole world became dark. We overheard him speak about three golden coins in theflores which can restore our kingdom's light, that's when we got this midnight. He even took away our power of purification. Unfortunately, humans are the only beings who can see those strange round circles. We just wanted to ask, would you like to help us?"
"It will be my utmost honor to help." Elissa said. "Are there any clues or hints he left? Something that belonged to him?"
"Yes, we managed to kick him out of the planet, and we found a map with him. I'll just look for it" Colton said, getting off the strange chair and walking to a wall. He passed right through it.
"This is amazing..." Elissa said in awe.
She sipped on the drink and ate the cookies and after a few minutes, Colton returned with a map. Elissa could see a round mark on it, "He Clearly took advantage of your disability, there's a round mark on this map"
"We should've known better" Colton said.
"Its not your fault. Just wait" Elissa put a hand in her backpack and took out a magnifying glass.
"Zardinia Lake?" she read the words right in the middle of the circle, "That must be where the three golden coins are!" she exclaimed.
"Yes, but there's still one problem..." Colton said. Elissa looked up at him in curiosity.
"The lake is surrounded by almost a zillion flores..." One of the assistants spoke up.
"This is not going to be as easy as I thought then... especially when I'm the only one who can see the coins" Elissa murmured.
She set off with Colton over to the Zardinia Lake.
"Now, right in front of us, is the Zardinia Lake!" Colton exclaimed. It was definitely a LOT more beautiful than Mount Ouray. "Its so... so... magnificent!" Elissa said in disbelief.
The whole place was covered with colorful Star Flores. Some purple, some pink, some blue, some red, some big, some small, some symmetrical, some asymmetrical.
The lake was light blue & white, just like that drink she had.
"Does the drink have anything to do with the lake?"
"Yes, the drink and the cookies come from this lake. That's why they are called the Zardines combo"
"Interesting... Now I have to start looking, this will be tiring..." Elissa said.
She moved around, searching for the three coins. Gosh, it was no less than trying to find a needle in a haystack. She searched for hours and then looked up at the sky. "Why do I keep forgetting this is a land which is cursed to have midnight forever?" She sighed.
She looked around all over the place, no sign. That's when it ticked in. "He never said it was in the flowers! Uhm, Colton?"
"Yes?"
"Is it possible to dive inside the lake?" She asked. Even though she knew it was a source of water or whatever they called it there, it could actually save the sapotis.
"uhm... okay, I guess. We'll purify it once we have our powers back"
Elissa nodded. This was it.
She put her bag in a corner, making sure her camera was fine. She dove inside the milky lake, it was really dark. The milky water sure was translucent, but it was midnight. She needed a torch. She went back up, she wasn't wet. "This world sure is strange..." she thought. She reached out for her torch and dove inside, flashing the torch around. Good thing she could hold her breath for at least 2 minutes.
She looked around, searching all the way. Nothing. She started getting suffocated so she hurried back up. She gasped when she reached up. Colton hurried to her, "Did you find anything?"
She looked down and shook her head. No. Colton sighed, "Its okay, At least you tried"
"I'll try again, after a short break" she said.
She picked up her camera in intention of taking some photos. The Lake came in the frame and when it did... she could see RIGHT through it! "Of course! Its an alien world! Technology can't see Magic!" (Like Uncanny Valley couldn't see Plagg? Elissa do you watch Miraculous?🙄)
She went closer to the lake. At the very bottom of the lake, there was a round box! And Luckily, Zardinia Lake wasn't deep. She dove inside, with her camera in a plastic bag. She reached the box and tried pulling it out. It was blue colored just like the bottom of the lake, that's why she couldn't see it earlier. It just won't come out! That's when she thought something and opened the box right there. She was greeted by a sparkling light. The three golden coins, and the thing is, they all had a different size.
She quickly swam back up with the coins and the camera and yelled, "I FOUND THEM!"
"You did?!" Colton asked.
"Mhm!" Elissa hummed in agreement. "Now how do we use them..?" she said to herself, coming out of the lake. She noticed the three triangles in the center. "Maybe..." she said. She stacked the three coins up, the largest ne at the bottom and the smallest one on top. When the circles were aligned, a bright beam of light gleamed and shot up in the sky, the midnight had gone.
A Portal opened up next, and she could easily say it was a portal back to earth. "We can't thank you enough, you're always welcome to Starlight Madame Elissa" Colton said, bowing down.
"You don't have to call me that, it was my pleasure. Just one last thing" She said to herself. She went up a hill and focused on the earthliest spot on the planet, the view which was breathtaking and did look like a place on earth, at least a bit.
'CLICK!' she took a photo, now this photo would remind her of two things, always. One, the beautiful kingdom of the Sapotis, Starlight, which she saved. And two, the photo she took for her job interview. Even if she didn't get it, it didn't really matter now. She'll always have the memories of Starlight with her. She always will.
She waved at the sapotis, her hands were full. Her backpack had endless amounts of those delish cookies which couldn't rot. The sapotis had also given her a beautiful locket made of crystals. It changed color according to her mood, it was the best gift she could've asked for. And the next thing that happened made her happier. She got the job. She had also saved the sapotis. And how much time did It take? Just one midnight. One single mysterious midnight.
