"I Smile Because I Can't Let Them See I'm Broken" - Jastin

You have to put on a brave face for your child, even when you're falling apart. You have to make sure they're okay before you can even begin to put yourself back together.

"I'm coming!" I yelled as I walked down the staircase trying to dry my hair. Chuckling as I knew who it was once they said, "Okay!"
"My babies!" I grinned as I opened the door and was met with three big smiles.
"Jonah, Judah how are my favourite brats?" I asked smiling as they glared with their blue and hazel eyes.
"Papa, we not brats," Jonah huffed crossing his arms. I widened my eyes.
"Oh, you're not?" I teased smiling at them.
"No, Papa," Judah said crossing his arms like his brother and narrowed his eyes at me.
They both had the same expression and stance, it was quite funny. They think they look like two mean bears but really they look like cute little puppies. But I'll never tell them.
I put my hands up in surrender. "Okay, okay, how are my Princes?" I asked leaning down to their level.
"Good but we're hungry," They whined up to me.
"Hungry? Did Daddy not feed you?" I asked confused. Usually Justin always feeds them before coming over. Where is Justin?
"No, Lucas said we had to go before Daddy give us food," They pouted looking down. Strange.
"Okay not to worry, how about you both go in the kitchen and get two cookies off the plate," I said emphasising the word 'two'.
They cheered and ran inside. "Only two!" I called out chuckling at their eagerness.
"Hey Lovebug," I smiled to my eldest son hugging him.
"Hi Pops," He smiled burying his face into my neck. I've missed him so much, I hardly see him.
Suddenly a loud beep was heard and I looked up seeing Lucas zoom off down the road. I shake my head. I've never liked the guy and never will. Sometimes about him is off.
I pulled him inside before locking the front door behind.
"Where's Dad?" I asked. Usually he was always here to drop off the boys.
"I don't know, Lucas picked me up just before," He said frowning. I furrowed my brows.
"What is it?" I asked knowing that look. The look where he was worried and anxious.
"Nothing Pops," He said looking up and giving me a smile. Fake of course. Something's wrong.
"We'll talk about this later," I said as I heard something break in the kitchen. The twins.
Running into the kitchen, I spotted Judah on the floor crying holding his bloody toe and Jonah close to tears.
"Babies," I said making my appearance. Their eyes widened. "Sorry Papa! We didn't mean it! We were only trying to get a cup!"
"It's okay babies," I said picking them both up and onto the island stools.
"Jesus, can you clean that up please? I need to see if there's any glass in his toe," I said before examining my youngest's toe.
I quickly grabbed the first aid kit in the drawer and grabbed the tweezers out of it.
"Hold still baby," I said before focusing my eyes on the little piece of glass.
Soon I got the piece out and brought him over to the sink to wash the blood off. Sitting him back down on the stool, placed on some Dettol cream and wrapping a bandaid over.
"There all better," I smiled kissing his cheek as he giggled. "No tears, teddy bear," I said wiping his cheeks.
"You okay baby?" I asked once I turned around and noticed Jonah staring at Judah still.
"I'm really sorry," He frowned. "It's okay baby, he's all better now," I smiled whipping his fallen tears.
"Didn't I tell you munchkins, the plastic cups are in the bottom cupboard?"
They both nodded. "That's why I put them there."
"Now who wants food?" I asked.
They all nodded their heads.
I got out the pot and began boiling the water for the pasta. Getting the ingredients to make Mac and Cheese.
"So how's kindergarten my little monkeys?" I asked.
"Good but Jo got in trouble for not sleeping at nap time," Judah snitched causally making me chuckle
"Jude, you said you wouldn't tell," Jonah gasped, shocked his twin told on him.
"Jake, you should value nap time, you won't get it later on in life, don't take it for granted," Jesus advised his younger brother while looking up from his phone.
"Why? What does g-granted mean?" Jonah asked looking up.
"Means appreciate it," Jesus answered making him nod.
"What does appre-appreciate mean?" He asked sounding the word out a minute later making me chuckle. "Baby, it means you should sleep when it's nap time and not talk to Liam,"
"How did you know?" He asked shocked once again.
"I didn't but you just did," I smirked making him pout. "Am I in trouble?"
"No baby, just try to sleep next time," I smiled softly at him. For some reason, they're scared to get in trouble.
"Eat up my darlings," I said placing a plate of hot cheesy pasta in front of them.
"What drinks do you want?" I asked walked over to the fridge.
"Water!" "Apple juice!" "Orange juice!"
"Water for you," I said handing a bottle to Jesus.
"Apple juice for you," I said handing a bottle to Judah.
"And an Orange juice!" I said handing a bottle to Jonah.
"Thanks!" They all said.
Soon the twins finished.
"Alright leave your bowls there and you can go outside and play, I'll come out soon," I smiled. They cheered and ran out the door.
"How's school going son?" I asked taking the bowls and putting them into the sink.
I notice him frown and mumble, "It's going." Making me raise a brow. "What's wrong?"
I took a seat next to him. "Nothing."
"Bullshit, it ain't nothing, and don't think I didn't notice the bruise," I said.
He quickly covered his face.
"Tell me what's wrong?" I said softly.
"It's just.. some guys are picking on me because I have gay dad's which is an abomination and that Dad can get pregnant which is why you left when he was pregnant with the twins because you finally realised he's a freak," He mumbled moving his pasta around.
"And.. and I don't wanna tell Dad," He suddenly sniffed making me lift up his chin.
"Oh my lovebug," I said my heart breaking as it's not often I see him cry.
"You..you g-guys aren't an abomination a-and Dad isn't a freak," He cried wiping his cheeks.
"You ignore them, they don't know anything," I said, trying to keep myself calm. I'm fucking angry. These kids don't know anything. Fucking pisses me off.
I hugged him as he nodded.
After a couple of minutes, he pulled back.
"Pops?"
"Yeah?" I said wiping his face.
"I.. I'm worried about Dad," He said frowning making me alert.
We make have separated but I still love and care for him.
"What do you mean worried?" I asked. My mind racing through a thousand thoughts.
"I went to hug him yesterday and he like... flinched," He said.
"Flinched?" I questioned.
He nodded frowning. "Yeah, like he thought I was going to hit him,"
That made me think. It all came to one possible reason.
"Please Jesus, please when you go back, watch him, call me if you need to," I said now worried about my ex-husband.
"Yeah," He croaked.
"Thank you,"
"I'm gonna go to my room and play some music," He said sliding off the stool. I nodded and let him go.
I leaned against the bench and sighed. What's happening to you Justin? I'm worried.
"Papa! Papa! Come play!" Jonah shouted motioning me over once he spotted me.
"I'm coming," I smiled walking down the patio stairs.

On multiple occasions Jesus has seen Lucas hit his father. Every time he's seen, Justin tells him it was his own fault and was told to take the twins up to his room and turn up the sound on the TV.
This was one of them...
"You're a fucking useless whore!" He heard as he neared the front door with his younger brothers.
"Boys stay close to me," Jesus warned the twins.
There was loud chatter as the three boys scrunched their noses as the strong smell of smoke and alcohol was throughout the foyer.
Immediately knowing who was here, Jesus sent his brothers upstairs to his room and turn on the TV.
As soon as he turned the corner he could see Lucas' friends grasp his father in inappropriate places. Justin squeaked jolting and spilling the glass over one of them men at the table.
"What the fuck, slut!" He yelled making him step back.
"I.. I'm sorry," Justin stuttered as Lucas got up hitting him in the back making him hiss.
"L-let me get a towel," He whispered to the man before limping out.
"Dad," Jesus whispered, tears in his eyes.
Justin snapped his head up and his eyes widened. "Jesus, I'm so sorry, I... I lost track of time, I'm s-sorry I didn't pick you up,"
Jesus shook his head shocked. How can his father be worried about forgetting to pick them up instead of what just happened.
"Dad.. He hit you.." He whispered.
His father only smiled.
"It's.. I'm fine son, it was my fault," He simply said making the boy shake his head.
"No, no Dad it wasn't, please, please, come upstairs or we can leave Dad," Jesus begged.
Justin only shook his head. "It's okay Jesus, just go upstairs and help the boys with their homework,"
Jesus shook his head, tears threatening to fall.
"Please, Dad, please?" He begged. He couldn't, knowing his father was downstairs getting touch in uncomfortable places for no reason.
"Just go upstairs Jesus, I'll be fine," Justin said sending him a smile.
Jesus could see he wasn't going to budge. With hesitation, he hugged his father and walked up the stairs.
----------------------
There would be occasions were Justin would take the blame or hit for his children then afterwards get punished. All while Justin made sure his boys didn't stay to witness the damage.
Yet Jesus heard everything at the ungodly hours of the night...
"You fucking stupid idiot!" Lucas screamed as he swung his fist back.
Jesus closed his eyes and waited for the hit, only to be pushed away.
"LUCAS NO!! DON'T TOUCH MY CHILD!" Justin shouted standing in front of his son.
Lucas' eyes darkened and swung forward and smashed his fist into Justin's face.
Jesus gasped as he saw it slow motion.
"Jesus please take the boys up to your room!" Justin instructed before pushing him out of the kitchen.
"No, he's going to hit you again," He cried looking at the drunk as he turned around.
"Jesus, please, I'll be alright," Justin said sending him one of his fake smiles.
"Promise me, you won't come down," He said placing his face on his.
Jesus looked at his fathers eyes and his father was begging him. "I.. I promise,"
Tears fell down Jesus' face as he picked up his brothers and ran upstairs and placed them on his bed. Quickly locking the door and putting a movie on.
Jesus sat by the door and listened to Lucas abusing his father.
"PLEASE! STOP!!" Justin begged wheezing.
"Shut the fuck up!" Lucas screamed angrily.
"Lucas! Stop! It was an accident! He didn't mean it!" Justin yelled.
------------
Jesus must of cried himself to sleep as he woke up with his head placed against the back of his door. He looked out the window to see it was now night. His brothers sound asleep on his bed under the blanket.
"Lucas.. please stop.. I don't want this.." He heard.
"Shut up slut, you do. You fucking love when I pound into you," Lucas voiced.
Jesus shook his head at the sentence said. Grunts, moans and quiet scream were heard.
"Lucas s-stop!" Justin said quietly.
Jesus shook his head again trying to block out the sounds, he wanted all of this to stop.
He got up and got into bed next to his brothers and wrapped his arms around them, closing his eyes hopefully it would stop.
He's gotta tell his father.

"I'm coming!" I shouted as the door bell kept ringing throughout the house.
"My darlings!" I smiled once I saw my boys.
"Papa!" They grinned. My heart always fills joy when I see or even think about my boys.
"Go inside, my little monkeys," I said, moving aside for them.
"Lovebug," I greeted my eldest.
"Pops," He said sending me a smile before hugging his Dad and walked in.
Which left us with Justin and I.
"Hi Jase," He said sending me one of his fake smiles. I just shatter when I see the weakness and sadness in his eyes.
"Hi Jay," I greeted.
"How are you?" I asked, even though I know.
"I-I'm good," He stuttered. My heart can't take this.
"I know Jay, I know," I said. His eyes widened. "W-what?"
"I know about Lucas... Why are you letting him?" I asked softly. I could see that a loud voice could scare him, even slightly.
"I.. I'm sorry Jase.. I didn't get there in time. I'm sorry I let him hit Jesus.." He said, eyes wide.
I frowned. "Darling, he was hurting you too," I whispered.
"I.. It's okay.. As long as he doesn't hurt our boys, I'm okay," He said faintly.
I shook my head, reaching forward, seeing him cower back.
"No, no it's not okay," I said softly wrapping my arms around him.
He suddenly burst into tears. "I'm sorry Jase! I didn't mean for Lucas to hit Jesus, I really didn't," He cried struggling to get out of my hold.
"Oh darling," I whispered, my heart breaking into pieces as I see him break down.
He's been so strong.
"Please stay here, I won't ever let you go near him again," I said promising, pulling him side.

It's been a couple days since they've moved in and now they're having dinner.
Justin offered to cook, insisting to cook dinner tonight as a thank you gift.
Dinner was getting served, suddenly a gasp was let out and glass was broken.
"Daddy," Jonah said reaching out for him but Justin backed away slowly.
"I.. I'm so sorry," Justin whispered, tears in his eyes.
Jason's eyes widened aswell as Jesus.
Everyone was silent before Justin spoke.
"Um, excuse me," He said smiling at his boys before walking out of the kitchen.
He took a deep breath and sighed.
Deciding to take a shower he heads upstairs.
It's been a few minutes before Jason spoke.
"Eat your dinner boys, I'll quickly get a pair of pants for you Jo," He said excusing himself and walked up the stairs.
Jason found Justin in his bathroom, he was probably taking a shower was his obvious thought.
"Hey Jay, it's only me," He whispered knocking on the door.
"Come in," Justin croaked.
Jason climbed into the shower and wrapped his arms around Justin softly as Justin immediately melted in them.
It was a couple minutes of silence before Justin spoke.
"You wanna know why I smile?" He asked.
Jason nodded.
"I smile because I don't want them to see me broken." He whispered. (an: I cry😭)
It left Jason speechless. He didn't know what to see.
So instead he just hugged the younger man tighter and told him, they're gonna get through this, Together. Making Justin burst into another round of tears.
Jason vowed to never let someone as precious as him go.
