The end of Part 2: "How are the boys, anyways? Do they know yet?" Simon asked, concern choking his words.
Format from here on: Bold is the principle/ the person in charge of the assembly. Normal is the storyteller. Underlined is the crowd/ people in it. *Anything within the asterisks is an action that is done in the present time*.
I quickly went to comforting my brother, telling him that all the Sidemen were safe and that they all knew he was safe too. He still seemed so anxious about them, his eyes darting around as I spoke. He begged me to keep them safe, and to keep them updated on how he was. I promised to, a promise I never broke.
I also told him that the fire had seemed to spark to interest that they wanted, and I had gotten a few new boys who wanted to join in the rebellion. Simon had smiled at this, saying that that was good. He then returned back to the topic of the Sidemen, asking how they were taking his absence.
I had spent three hours in the woods with those boys, most the time spent ensuring Simon that the Sidemen missed him dearly and that they were all safe for as long as I could control it. During these hours, as well, the boys had discussed with me their plan to extend the fort, so that way maybe others could come out there as well. I had suggested instead that they build a whole other building nearby, maybe connecting them by some underground system. They seemed to enjoy this idea, and I offered to come back to help them in five days. I didn't want to risk drawing suspicion towards my visits.
Over the next five days, the rebellion gained a new spark. I ran messages to all the recruits, they planned an event to happen the day I'd be visiting the boys once more. They were to make a ruckus in the town square, enough of one to gain more attention toward the problem. Josh was the only Sidemen attending this activity, however, as they decided it would be best not to risk too many of the leaders at once. His code name was Zerkaa, and so it was known as Zerkaa's Rally. I'm sure you all remember that.
*"Yes sir" echoes throughout the room*.
And then, I suppose, you remember how it ended?
*The same "yes sir" fills the room*.
I should've seen it coming honestly. The government wasn't as blind to our activities anymore. They knew we were planning trouble, I honestly thought that maybe one of the new recruits was a spy for the government. But I never knew for sure, it was just my gut. I was the one who dragged away an injured Josh, quickly escaping to the old fort with him. The terrified look on Simon's face is one I still remember.
Simon and I did everything we could to patch Josh up. He had passed out the second we began treating him, making it easier to remove bullets and clean the wounds that were bleeding quickly. I don't remember how we did it, but I know we stitched up every gash on his body. The only real detail I can remember from that afternoon is Simon's tear-covered face as he worried relentlessly about Josh.
I had ended up leaving the two alone, understanding that they needed space and time for Simon to break down. I helped Lux and Freezy build up the new fort, and it was nearly finished as the sun began to fall. I bid them all farewell, saying I needed to leave early so I could tell the others what had occurred. And when I returned to town, I was terrified by the scene before me.
They were still fighting back, a slaughter lay across the ground but those still standing were fighting. And I would've sworn they were winning. I quickly avoided the mess, not being able to withstand the gore anymore. I found all the other Sidemen and told them the news of Josh. You could tell they were relieved he was alive, but broken because he was hurt. I told them that he would stay with Simon for now, and I also told them that there was now a separate building back there. With this news, they began to plan their next attack, the worst of them all.
I suppose you all know that there were around 20 government deaths with Zerkaa's Rally.
*Sounds of agreement filled the room*.
That's good. But did you know that Star's Massacre had a horrid 123 government deaths?
*Gasps and "no sir" echoed through the gymnasium*.
I figured. They always tell how violent it was, but never share the number. Vik, whose code name was Star, often became referred to as Vikstar123 because of that day. I hadn't been there that day, I spent it with the Sidemen in the park Vik would be fleeing to once a risk arose.
It was four long hours before Vik returned to the Sidemen and I, a smile on his face. He said it had been a success. Only three causalities on our side, but those had been carried off to be properly buried. They had cleared out a whole post of the government, and back up still wouldn't be there for another twenty minutes. He had pulled out his phone and showed us a picture once his breaths evened, this picture. *A roll of poster board is pulled from his bag, holding it up to the crowd. On it sat a message, obviously written with spray paint. "THE SIDEMEN WON'T REST UNTIL JUSTICE IS SERVED!" read the message. And, with that success fresh in mind, they planned more and more activities for their rebellion. They had now begun to taste victory, and they wouldn't stop until their thirst for government blood was sated.
