Soulmates
Type: Soulmate AU
Ship: Intrulogical (Ik, a new one!)
At age 18, everyone in the kingdom got a charm. Nobody knows where they come from, or how they are made, but they are all unique symbols that start to change color when someone is close to the one they love. They're called 'soulmate charms', even though many couples aren't really soulmates. But a little color change is enough for some people.
Hardly anyone realizes they glow when two soulmates approach each other.
---
Remus wakes up with a moaning sort of yawn.
"Can you ever yawn like a normal person?" his brother, Roman, asks.
"No can do, asshole," Remus says.
"Rude much?" Roman asks.
"Yes," Remus says.
Roman rolls his eyes as Remus hops out of bed.
"So are you excited?" Remus asks.
"What for? I've already found the love of my life," Roman says.
"Yeah, I know how you feel about Char. But I don't think he's the one," Remus says.
"Oh? And how would you know?" Roman asks.
"Vibes," Remus says.
"Whatever. Get dressed quick, we're leaving on twenty minutes," Roman says.
Roman leaves the room and Remus grabs his best clothes. It was custom to look your best at the charm giving ceremony. After all, you might be called up with your soulmate, and you wouldn't want to look bad for that.
Not that Remus actually cared, though. Looking good wasn't something he was interested in. He'd much rather wear easily cleaned or disposable clothing in case he got mud or blood on them.
Remus pulls out his sparkly suit-like outfit, complete with ruffles and a green sash. His brother has a matching, much more toned-down, red, and white one. As much as Remus hates matching, he still puts it on.
"Ready to go?" Roman asks as Remus steps out of their room.
"Are we not having breakfast?" Remus asks.
"We can get that later," Roman says, "Let's go,"
"Ok geez," Remus says, "Where are Mom and Dad?"
"Probably taking care of royal business or something. Probably accompanying the princess today though," Roman says.
"Figures. Though I did have a sliver of hope today," Remus says.
Roman nods.
"Yeah, me too," he says.
Remus and Roman's parents are the duke and dutchess of the kingdom. As a result of that and the negligent parent that is the king, their parents ended up raising the princess more than their own two sons.
But Remus still held hope that they'd be there for one of the three biggest ceremonies in their lives. The charm giving, their wedding, and their funeral. However, Remus doubted they'd be there for the wedding or funeral. But the charm giving, that was something much more special.
And it just kills him inside that they won't be there for him.
"I'm going to burn something once we get there," Remus says.
"You know what? I think I might too," Roman says.
"Good. Maybe we can burn another part of Mom's wedding dress," Remus says.
---
"Roman Sanders and Selena Moon, please step up," the charm giver says.
Roman glances back at Remus for a second before going up. Remus gives him a thumbs up.
The charm giver hands Roman his charm, which Roman fastens to a small band he has for this occasion. He slid it on his wrist. The princess, Selena, do the same but make hers a necklace.
Selena's charm changes color to red, but Roman's stays red. Nobody really notices apart from Remus.
"Remus Sanders and Charlie Mack, please step up," the charm giver says.
Remus steps up and looks to the crowd, where he sees his mom and dad. Hugging Selene. If he was Roman, he would cry. Instead, he contemplates murder.
"Remus Sanders, it is my honor to present you with your soulmate charm," the charm giver says, handing Remus a small charm.
He holds it in his hand and examines it. It's a black sword with tentacles coming out. It also a green crescent moon and tower, with green vines underneath. There are more details on it, but he doesn't have time to examine it. He takes out a band and attaches the charm to it before sliding it on his wrist.
---
"Kids, we're home!"
It's almost midnight, and Remus just finished burning the veil of his mom's wedding dress.
He quickly leaves their room and slips back into his and Roman's.
"Rom, wake up," he hisses, shaking him.
"Hm?" Roman mumbles.
"They're home," Remus says.
Roman's eyes snap open. He gets up and smooths out his clothes. They go into the main room, where their parents are waiting.
"How was the ceremony?" their om asks.
"I don't know, didn't you see from the front row with her majesty?" Remus asks.
"Remus! You will not talk to your mother with that tone!" their dad snaps.
Remus rolls his eyes.
"Whatever," he mutters.
"It was fine, Dad. We both got very nice charms, and mine did shift color around my- partner, so that is good," Roman says.
Roman has always been more civil towards their parents.
"That's good, sweetie. But Remus, we need to have a talk about your attitude," their mom says.
"I'm good. I am going out now, don't expect me back," Remus says.
He grabs his bag, which he always keeps full of supplies, and leaves.
Remus is planning on going back, maybe in a few days. He wanders down to the outer areas, where the poorest people live.
"Hello? What are you doing out at this time?"
Remus looks around before sees a boy, around his age. He squints and through the dark can see him. Tall, glasses, slightly maintained brown hair and sharp features.
"Running away," Remus says.
"Why?" the boy asks.
"Because my parents are assholes," Remus says.
"Oh. May I walk with you?" the boy asks.
"Sure," Remus says, "I'm Remus, by the way,"
He holds out his hand.
"Logan," the boy says.
They shake hands and start walking towards the edge of the kingdom.
"So why are you running away? You seem to be of noble class, so shouldn't your life be satisfactory?" Logan asks.
"I mean, food and stuff isn't a problem, but it still sucks. My parents take care of the princess all day and night. Me and my twin are lucky if we see them around town, let alone them being home for more than a day a week," Remus says.
"Oh. I can't imagine what that is like. Me, my parents, and two siblings hardly spend any time apart," Logan says.
"Yeah, that sounds amazing," Remus admits.
"I suppose," Logan says.
They sit down on a grassy hill and Remus fiddles with his charm.
"Were you at the ceremony today?" Logan asks.
"Yeah, just turned eighteen last month," Remus says.
"As did I. May I see your charm?" Logan asks.
"Sure," Remus says, handing Logan his bracelet.
Logan hands him an earring. The charm on it is a lot simpler. A brain with glasses. And it is green.
"Is yours normally dark blue?" Logan asks.
"No, why?" Remus says.
That's when he realizes.
They both look down at the charms, which have started faintly glowing. Like starlight.
"So, do we kiss, or-" Logan asks.
"I have no idea. I won't object to that, though," Remus says.
They stare into each other's eyes and lean close. But then they both back up.
"I think- I think I might just want to be friends first," Remus admits.
"Me too. Can we meet here again tomorrow night?" Logan asks.
"Sure thing," Remus says.
---
(2 years later)
They stare into each other's eyes. They are in the same field they met in, but so much has changed. But not their charms.
"Logan, I-" Remus says.
Before he can continue, Logan presses a kiss on his lips. Remus closes his eyes and kisses back. They are soulmates, but there will still be a battle for it.
But for now, they can just love each other in peace.
Soulmate AU. Maybe a story if like 2 people want it. Requests are still open, peace out my peeps!
