Brothers
Type: Fluff-ish/kinda angsty/part of Thomas AU/before SvS redux
Ship: Creativitwins (that means it's platonic, chill)
Quick backstory/partial summary: While Remus is having a bad intrusive thoughts episode, Roman feels it and goes to talk with Remus for the first time since they split.
Roman feels off.
He can't explain it, but he just feels bad, like there's something bad happening.
"Roman, you ok in there, kiddo?" Patton asks, knocking on his door.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Roman says.
"Are you sure? You haven't come out in hours," Patton says.
"I'm fine," Roman says.
He turns away from his door as Patton leaves. But when he does so, he is greeted by another side.
"Deceit? What are you doing here?" Roman asks.
"I heard you telling lies, Roman," Janus says.
"Ok ok, you caught me. So what do you want?" Roman asks.
"Simply to help you. After all, if you can't focus then neither can Thomas," Janus says.
"How can you help me?" Roman asks, skeptical.
"Come with me," Janus says, holding out his hand.
"Ok, but if this is some sort of trick I assure you-" Roman says.
"Relax. Why would I want to hurt you? You help Thomas, after all. Now, Patton and Virgil on the other hand..." Janus says, trailing off.
"Can we just go?" Roman asks.
"Of course," Janus says, sinking them both out.
They reappear outside Remus's room.
"Remus? What are we doing by his room?" Roman asks.
"Your brother isn't feeling well. I suggest you be nice to him for once in your life and help him," Janus says.
Roman feels a pang of guilt. It isn't his fault he didn't even know he had a brother until the most recent video! The others were hiding the truth from him!
But he still feels like an awful brother.
Janus sinks out again, leaving Roman in front of the green door. He decides it's better to just open it and see what's wrong.
First, Roman knocks.
No answer.
He knocks again.
"What do you want?" Remus snaps.
"Can I come in?" Roman asks.
"Sure, Double D, whatever," Remus grumbles.
Roman opens the door.
"Actually, it's-" he starts to say.
"Roman!" Remus gasps, "What are you doing here?"
"I- I just- are you ok?" Roman asks.
He looks around his brother's room. It's covered in strange creatures and horrific things. Blood, mostly. But the thing that seems off about it is that it's covered in pieces of paper. Some drawing, some writing, all seeming violent or depressing.
"Yeah! I'm fine!" Remus says.
"Then do you want to talk about what's so 'fine'?" Roman asks.
He sits down next to Remus in the middle of the room and puts his hand on his back.
"You wouldn't understand," Remus says.
"You're starting to sound like Virgil. I'm much more empathetic than everyone thinks," Roman says.
"I seriously doubt that. Where were you for the past twenty years? You were never there for me! How is that being empathetic, abandoning your own brother?" Remus asks, trying to be harsh but his voice cracks.
"Well, it wasn't really my fault, hear me out on this," Roman says, catching Remus's eye roll, "I never even knew you, well, existed until that last video. Nobody ever told me about you, and I was always called 'creativity'. Like I was the only one,"
"Oh, so it's not your fault? Right, I should have known! Nothing ever is!" Remus shouts.
Roman sees the problem.
"Look, I'm not going to say I don't have it good, and I'm not going to say you could be treated better, but I want you to know I get blamed the most for Thomas's failures. I'm also his confidence and romance, so when he messes up with either of those or any of my ideas aren't top-notch, I always get blamed," he says.
"Yeah, well at least you have a family! That anus barely talks to me, and I never know when he's lying," Remus says.
Tears start to well up in Remus's eyes again. He hates how loved, accepted, and praised Roman is. How Roman's ideas are never called 'freakish' and that he never 'needs mental help'. Remus is fine, he's just different. He's been all alone for years.
Roman stays silent, so Remus continues talking.
"And you just get all of the spotlight and attention! Patton loves you, Logan accepts you, and Virgil isn't scared of you! I never got that! I never got anyone!" Remus shouts.
"You have me now," Roman says, "I'll always be there for you from now on,"
"Sure you will," Remus grumbles.
"I mean it. It would be dishonorable to abandon my family. Aren't we brothers, after all?" Roman asks.
"I guess so," Remus admits.
"So why don't we get to know each other?" Roman asks, "It's been twenty years since we were the same person,"
"Yeah. But... do you know why you never got to speak to me?" Remus asks.
He knows any answer will hurt, but he still wants an answer.
"No. But I doubt it's a good one, and I'll be talking to whoever decided on it," Roman says, his tone harsh enough to convince Remus that his brother never wanted this to happen either.
"So what kind of movies do you like?" Roman asks.
"All of them! I like all the art, writing, and acting in all different genres," Remus says, "But my favorite is horror,"
He was half of Creativity, after all. So of course he liked more creative things. He isn't all butts and inappropriate jokes.
"What if we watched some older movies? To try something new?" Roman asks, "After a horror movie,"
Remus nods.
"Sounds great! Have you heard of Spaceballs?" he asks.
Roman shakes his head.
"We are watching that right after IT one and two," Remus says.
Roman smiles. He doesn't like horror movies one bit, and he's terrified of clowns, but he'll do this for his brother. After all, they deserve some bonding time.
During the two movies, Remus seems so delighted while watching that Roman starts to believe he really isn't the menace the others make him out to be.
"Remus?" Roman asks.
"Yeah?" Remus says.
"I know I never knew about you, but I've missed you if that makes sense," Roman says.
"Yeah, it does. We have an emotional bond, after all," Remus says.
"Good. Then I'll always know when you need me," Roman says.
"Right back at 'cha, Ro," Remus smiles.
Maybe neither live as great as the other thinks. Maybe neither are entirely good and bad.
Maybe they're just brothers.
I originally set out to make this pure fluff, but I guess I can't do that. Also, if you check out my short stories book, you'll see the first chapter continuing Virgil and Logan's story from Together, Never/Forever! Requests are still open, peace out my peeps!
