Remy sits down in class just as the bell rings. He stares at the door, wondering where the angstiest kid in school is.
"Remy? You're starting at nothing again," Logan says, snapping Remy out of his daze.
"Huh? Oh, sorry," He says.
Remy shifts his attention to the front of the classroom, where the teacher was starting the lesson. Remy didn't like this class, social studies, solely because the teacher made him need twice the amount of coffee than normal just to stay awake. Remy loved coffee, but not to the point where he was borderline addicted just to get through a class. It always made him super jittery afterward.
After about five minutes, which felt like five centuries, the door opened.
"Well, look who finally decided to show up!" The teacher says, "What's your excuse this time, Grey?"
He doesn't respond, merely handing the teacher a small slip of paper.
"I see. Go take a seat, your new one is by Slep," The teacher says, then continuing his lesson.
Remy buried his face in his arms as Virgil Grey walked up to the seat next to him. Remy didn't know why, but he always felt tongue-tied and nervous around Virgil. His heart was fluttering, and it wasn't from the coffee.
"Now, as we move passed the fall of the Roman Empire, can anyone tell me what historical period came next?" He asks.
Logan's hand shoots up. Of course. He was Remy's best friend but that didn't stop him from thinking he was a nerd.
As class bore on, Remy found himself staring at Virgil. Not in a creepy or weirded out way, more in an interested way.
After class, Remy went to talk with his other friend, Emile.
"Hey Em," He says, "I need help,"
"Sure! What is it?" He asks.
"So there's this guy," Remy starts, "And he's a total babe. And now I can't stop thinking about him. Why?"
"Does this babe happen to be Grey?" Emile asks, a wide grin on his face.
"Maybe," Remy says.
Emile squeals.
"Finally! I'm going to tell Lo, this is great!" He says, running off.
"Wait, I still need- nevermind," Remy says, letting out a sigh.
What did Emile mean by 'finally'? Sure, he had noticed the mysterious emo boy before, but not like that! Besides, it was unlikely that the loner kid was both gay and liked the popular, partying guy. Remy was better if Virgil had a crush on a popular kid, it would be Roman Knight, the handsome theater kid everyone seemed to love.
---
"Ooh, did you see the way he was looking at you?! I bet he likes you!" Patton says, making Virgil blush.
Class had just let out and Patton was quick to point out the way the most popular coffee addict in school, Remy Slep, had been looking at Virgil for almost the entire class period.
"He was probably thinking about how lame and weird I am," Virgil says.
Patton tuts.
"Now, if you continue being self-deprecating I will physically fight you!" He says.
"Ok, ok," Virgil concedes.
He only did so because he knew Patton would make good on his threat and tackle-hug him.
"I think he likes you," Patton says.
"Heh. I doubt it. Have you seen how much he hangs out with Logan?" Virgil says.
"You're blushing," Patton notes, smirking.
"I do not- it's not because of Remy," Virgil insists.
"If you say so," Patton says.
---
"Logan, Logan!" Emile shouts.
"What is it, Emile? Can it not wait for home?" Logan asks.
Emile and Logan were step-brothers, Emile's mom marrying Logan's dad. They were both friends with Remy long before they were step-brothers.
"Remy likes Virgil!" Emile says.
"I thought that was obvious," Logan says, blinking, "Haven't they always?"
"Yeah, but now Remy's starting to realize it!" Emile says.
"It only took him 10 years," Logan says.
They were all 17, and Remy had started liking Virgil in 1st grade. Not that he's ever admitted it, not even to himself.
"How should we get them together?" Emile asks.
"We don't know if Virgil feels the same way, we shouldn't get involved just yet," Logan says.
Emile's shoulders drop a little.
"True," He says, "Maybe we should ask Patton. He's close with Virgil, right?"
Logan nods. He and Patton were relatively close, somewhere between 'We might hang out if there was nobody else' and 'I'd choose you to be my lab partner'. So Logan knew Patton and Virgil were close.
"Ask him, and then we'll get them together," Emile says.
"If Virgil feels the same way," Logan says.
"Uh-huh, yeah. Well, I'm going up to my room, see ya!" Emile says as they reach their house.
He dashes upstairs, leaving Logan to do the dishes. It was his turn, anyway.
---
Remy was at his job, working as a barista at Starbucks. It suited him, he got the employee discount and never got sick of coffee. The place smelled like heaven to him.
Remy dropped the cup, which was thankfully empty, on the floor when he sees Virgil walk in. He ducks under the counter to pick it up and hide his blush. Did he really like Virgil? Of course not, they hardly even talked.
Remy got a new cup and finished making the drink by the time Virgil was up in line. He took over the line.
"Hello, welcome to Starbucks. What can I get ya?" Remy asks.
Virgil seems to shrink away nervously.
"A van-" He mumbles an order, but Remy can hardly make it out.
Remy nods anyway.
"Can I get a name?" He asks.
He knew Virgil's name, but it was store policy to ask anyway.
"V-Virgil" He stammers.
Remy would usually misspell someone's name as a little joke, but he didn't for Virgil. He wrote his name down and went to get his order ready.
It was a vanilla something. Remy didn't hear what he said, but he guessed it's a vanilla bean frappe. He totally hadn't noticed it was Virgil's favorite drink, next to classic iced coffee.
He made the drink, hoping it was the one Virgil asked for.
"Vanilla Bean for Virgil!" He calls out.
Remy went a little red as Virgil claimed his drink.
"Have a great day!" He says as Virgil's leaves.
---
Virgil went a little red at that but pulled up his hood to hide it. He had a greater chance of not wearing eyeshadow than Remy liking him. Besides, who in their right mind would actually like like Virgil? He knew Patton liked him because Patton liked everyone, even someone has grumpy and emo as him.
Virgil sipped on his drink as he got in his car. He didn't know why he went to Starbucks, he had no reason to. True, he knew Remy would be working, but that couldn't have had anything to do with it, right?
---
The next afternoon after school, Remy, Emile, and Logan all got together at Logan and Emile's house.
"Remy, you like him don't you?" Emile asks.
"I do not! Sure, he's the hottest thing since the sun, and he's so adorably nervous, and- yeah, I like him," Remy says, "That gurl is the greatest thing ever,"
Emile squeals in delight.
"Ok, we need to get you two together! Logan, do you have any ideas?" Emile shouts across the room.
"As a matter of fact, I do," Logan says.
"I'm not going to just go up and ask him, the way you suggest it is like a SIMS game," Remy says.
"As a matter of fact, I don't," Logan says, sitting back down.
He turns back to his computer, the click-clacking of his keyboard filling the empty silence.
"Well, maybe you could do a secret admirer approach," Emile suggests, "Y'know, slip him notes. Or maybe sing him a song declaring your love!"
"Maybe and definitely no," Remy says.
"Perhaps you could send him single roses of different colors. It seems those have different meanings that can be romantic," Logan says.
"Actually, that sounds pretty sweet. But where am I going to find colored roses?" Remy asks,
"The dollar store probably," Emile says.
"Cool beans," says Remy, "Well, imma head out. Peace!"
He stands up, putting back on his shades, and heads out.
Tomorrow was Saturday, so Remy didn't have to go to bed at a slightly more reasonable hour.
After just an hour or so of being home, Remy grabbed his satchel and headed for the door.
"Remy, where are you going?" His mom asks.
"Out," He says.
"You'll be back tonight, right?" His mom asks.
Sometimes Remy stayed over with his friends for the night. He shrugs.
"I dunno. Maybe," He says, leaving.
There was an outdoor show/concert that he was not missing for the life of him. Plus, he still had to get the roses.
- - -
After the concert, Remy went to the dollar store. It was almost midnight, but it was Saturday, so curfew was extended. The state one, not his parents. They had long since given up on giving Remy a curfew.
Remy found a bunch of nice colorful roses, grabbed them, and went to the register to check out.
"Thanks, gurl," Remy says.
"Not a problem," The employee says, yawning, "Have a good rest of your day,"
Technically, it was almost the next day. Remy left the store, got in his car, and took a long sip of his half-melted iced coffee. It was almost room temperature, but it did the job. He was awake enough to drive.

At school on Monday, Remy grabbed the yellow rose. It may symbolize friendship, but also 'I care', and undying love. Perfect for how he felt. He taped it to Virgil's locker, which was only a few away from his. Now all he had to do was wait.
---
Virgil untaped the yellow fake rose on his locker. He gave it a delicate sniff. It smelled faintly of dollar store plastic and coffee beans. Unbeknownst to Remy, Virgil had actually done a project in 6th grade on the meaning of roses.
Virgil knew exactly what the rose meant, but what he didn't know was if the sender knew. Or even who the sender was. Virgil tucked the rose away in his pocket, keeping it there all day.
"Hey Pat," Virgil asks, "Did you by any chance give me this rose? Or know who did?"
He pulls out the yellow rose, showing it to Patton. He shakes his head.
"Maybe you have a secret admirer!" He says.
"Doubtful," Virgil mumbles.
They turn their attention back to the classwork at hand, Virgil pondering all day who gave him the rose.
Ok, so this was getting really long, so I'm going to make a part two! Requests are still open, feel free to request anything (within the ship restrictions). The website I used for research was roseforlove.com. Peace out, my peeps!
