post-civil but pre-infinity

Did Tony Stark expect his son to get all his, arguably, worst qualities? No, he did not. He did not expect his son to get his least favorite qualities: stubbornness, rudeness, and the sass. Oh! How much Tony hated the sass. It wasn't usually against him. But, alas, today it finally was: Tony Stark's own son, Peter Parker-Stark, was chatting up Steve freaking Rogers, Tony's ex-boyfriend. But, of course, Peter knew not.

Tony waltzed into the room before pausing, staring, and leaving the room backward to recollect his thoughts. Was that really Peter Parker-Stark talking to Steven Grant Rogers about how dangerous the other could be? Once Tony regathered his thoughts, he rejoined them in the room. Although this time his mood was noticeably dimmer.

"Hey, Kiddo who'd you find?" Tony pretended he didn't notice Steve. As he often did to anyone Peter brought in that he wasn't expecting to see. "I found Mr. Rogers on my way to the elevator, and I was complaining about school, and (did I mention he was going to the elevator too?) he heard me so he tried to convince my school wasn't totally bad, only I convinced him it was bad first. Then our conversation changed to the airport-" Tony winced, recalling the event that still gave him nightmares. "-fight (i may or may not have let it slipped that I was Spiderman, whoops) and he was like 'I didn't know you were this young. Had I know I wouldn't have dropped that terminal on you.' and I was like 'what, no! Its fine Mr.Rogers. I bad-mouthed your-' "

Steve, blushing like a school girl, interrupted Peter. "OK, Peter Tony knows who you found now." This was not how he wanted to apologize to Tony. "I don't know, Steve. I think Pete should continue." Tony was a lot more confident with Steve so embarrassed. What made it even better was the fact that there was no way a fight ̶c̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ would break out with Peter on the premises.

Peter looked at the two. He knew very well back in Germany, that fight was not a fight between Iron Man and Captain America. That was a fight between his father, Tony Stark, and his childhood idol, Steve Rogers. He also knew the only reason they were still being civil was because of him. He's no fool, Peter saw how tense Steve got when Tony entered the room. Peter saw Tony practically bouncing as he came in, freeze, exit, only to come back in with a guarded expression. Peter knows things. He may not know why, but at least he knows them.

"I was gonna say that I said it was cool since... I said his shield was the size of a dinner plate," Peter ducked his head down low as they sat in awkward silence, Tony trying to process what he heard. He finally burst out laughing at Steve, who was trying to come up with an excuse on how the topic up back in Germany. "Ok! God, kid seriously? Did you at the very least say it with confidence?" Peter slowly nodded, not quite understanding why this was of importance.

"Ok kiddo. Go do whatever homework you have left. I'm going to find out what Capsicle here wants." Tony addressed as he caught his breath. "But I already did it." The aforementioned wasn't quite ready to leave yet. "Then do it again." "No!" Tony rolled his eyes tiredly, but still with love and affection. "Then go find Pepper." "She's on a business trip with Natasha." The kid was truly too stubborn for his own good. "Go. To. Your Room." Peter sighed knowing he lost this round. He really wanted to hear the conversation. Thank God for enhanced hearing.

Tony waited for Peter to be a good distance away. He didn't want Peter eavesdropping on his conversation. He tensed. Tony really didn't want this conversation going to hell. "So, what's up Stevie?" 'Yea, good job Tony! You could have said better, but hey it's fine.' Steve shook his head, a slight grin adorning his features. He really did miss Tony. Whether it be their relationship or just their friendship he missed, he wasn't sure.

"Not much, Tony. I..." He paused. God this was so hard for his pride "I wanted... to apologize." Tony fell back onto the couch. Whatever he was expecting, it was not for Steven Grant Rogers to apologize to Anthony Edward-freaking-Stark.

The billionaire didn't know what to think. So he turned towards his defense mechanism: "You're what?" He cracked a smile. "I'm sorry, I didn't catch that." He put emphasis on the sorry, trying to say it without actually saying, 'I forgive you. All's well.'

Steve shook his head. "I'm not saying it again, Tony. You heard what I said." "Mhmm... I dunno Capsicle. You're hallucinating, but don't worry it comes with being old, you don't know what you're saying." Steve almost regretted coming and was moving to stand up, when he saw Tony's eyes focused on him with a look of amusement and a whole lot of love.

"Yea, ok Tony. Say whatever you want. I know you missed me." "Have I now?" Tony raised an eyebrow as he frowned, moving closer. Steve hummed in approval. "Okay. And," Tony climbed onto Steve's lap, pecking him on the lips, "say I have, which I most certainly-" another peck. "have not. Did you miss me?" Tony leaned in for a kiss. Steve hummed into the kiss his approval that yes, he did miss Tony.

A peck became a kiss, a kiss became a heated kiss, a heated kiss became them making out, and them making out somehow led to Steve convincing Tony to move this to a more secluded, closed off hallway. Which of course led to Peter closing his ears, trying to keep the sounds his father made out of his head. He just wanted to build his lego death star. He did not want to here Tony reunite with an ex-lover. That was just not on his to-do list.

Stupid enhanced earing. Always screwing things up.
