Everyday was the same: wake up, go to school, go home and repeat. However little did I know that the next day was going to be different. I woke up but not in my room but in some kind of government facility, I was confused out of my mind. I overheard the guards say something like "Do you know why the boss wants this son of a gun to help him"? "No idea, hey attention the professor's coming." 'What on earth is going on' I wondered. Just then the door opened and a bright light burst into my room blinding me, "Who's there" I screamed out. "Relax, we're not here to hurt you, we're here to recruit you." What why recruit a guy like me. "What do you want"? I questioned slowly regaining my sight. "I am Professor Poppinstein, and I work with Dr. Dieldrin, we work with the government using our own technology, which need I tell you is ten times what technology the military uses now these days." I decided to play along with where Mr. Professor was going with this. "Ok so what do you need me for"? "Well in our studies we have found that there is a 0.000001% chance for a human soul to harness every power known to man, and we found someone in that millionth percent chance to obtain this power, and you know who it is." "Wait I know who it is, hm, oh I bet it's Xavier, he's really strong I can contact him if you want." "No that won't be needed" "What, why not isn't he the one"? "No" "Then who it is Mr, Smarty-pants" "It's you, Lachlan Rupertson" "What and how did you know my name" "You are the one with this power, of course I know who you are." This was getting way too creepy. "So why did I get this power"? "Well Lachlan, that is still unknown to this day, but we have theories that you were the great-great-great-great-grandson of former world hero St. Arnold the great, who in fact had every power known to man." Wait I'm related to a hero, wow, Mom has a lot to explain. "However, in order for you to unlock and harness these powers, you have to quit school and start practicing your powers as soon as possible." "I have to quit school? But I don't want to quit school, I have a future in store for me, I have friends to talk to and a girlfriend to take care of." "YOU WILL NOT TELL ANYONE ABOUT YOUR POWERS OR THE GOVERNMENT WILL PUT YOU DOWN AND YOU WILL NOT SEE ANY OF YOUR FRIENDS EVER AGAIN." Wow, he threatened me, and all for not telling my friends about my powers, maybe I couldn't trust this guy. "What makes me think I can trust you"? "Well if you trust me, you will not only be able to unlock these powers, but you will also be able to become famous and protect the ones you love. Isn't that enough to trust me"? He had a point, with the powers I will soon have I'll be able to protect my friends, my family, and my girlfriend. "It looks I've convinced you, what do you say, will you join us"? he asked me outstretching his hand. I hesitatingly shook his hand and the deal was made, I would work for the government. Next thing I know I blackout and I wake up in my room. "Ohh what happened last night"? Wait I remember, I made a deal with the government and I couldn't tell anyone, not even my own mother, my father died in the war and I had no siblings so it was me and mom. "Lachlan it's time to eat" "Coming mother" today was going to be a terrible day. "So when do you start your training with your new powers"? "What are you talking about mom, you must be going crazy." I was nervous, how did she find out? "Son, don't act stupid I know you made an agreement with Dr. Dieldrin the other night, why do you think you're not going to school"? "Well, um" "Exactly, now eat your breakfast you have a lot to learn about your great-great-great-great-grandfather" I scarfed down my food and washed my dishes and got ready to learn about my ancestor. "Now, our family is known to hold one power but Arnold had every power and was a very heroic man and he stopped at nothing to protect his family and friends. Everyone that he saved said that he was the next hero the world needed." "Mom, how did Arnold die, and how did he earn to be called a Saint"? "Well, Arnold did what no other hero would have done, he sacrificed his powers to keep his wife alive and when a hero gives up their powers, well they lose their life. He earned to be called a Saint when he made this huge sacrifice, he cared only about others safety, and nothing about his life. If only I was alive back then, then I could have healed him, or at least attempted to heal him." She started crying and I embraced her in a hug. I had no idea about my past or that my mom can heal people that was amazing. "Mom, he saved the world, and it would be an honor to continue his legacy and save the world now. I hereby vow to do my best to save the ones I love, and the ones in this world that may or may not be in serious trouble, I vow to you mother that I will be as safe as I can when being out there saving the world." "Thank you son but, please vow to Arnold that you will accomplish what he could not do." "What's that mother"? "Vow that you will accomplish his last mission." "I vow to you Arnold, my great-great-great-great-grandfather, that I will accomplish your last mission." From this day forward I would do my best to be like Arnold, no to be the next Arnold. I felt a vibrate in my pocket and took my phone out, it was a text from my girlfriend. 'Hey can you meet me at the park, we need to talk.' Whenever she said we needed to talk meant that something bad was going to happen. So I went to the park, and there she was, just sitting on a swing slowly rocking back and forth. "Hey can you come over here, where were you at school today"? "Well I'm not going to school anymore." "Why"? "Well I can't exactly tell you why." "Oh come on , you can tell me, I'm your girlfriend you can tell me anything." "No, I can't tell you this thing." A flashback of the professor talking to me came to mind, "YOU WILL NOT TELL ANYONE ABOUT YOUR POWERS OR THE GOVERNMENT WILL PUT YOU DOWN AND YOU WILL NOT SEE ANY OF YOUR FRIENDS EVER AGAIN." "I can't tell you, I'm sorry, I truly am." "And why can't you tell me"? "Because if I tell you, then someone would come and hurt you, and I don't want anything bad to happen to you." "That's a lie, you're hiding something, are you cheating on me"? "What, no, I would never cheat on you Aubree, you know this." "But you're hiding something, I can see it in your eyes, just tell me." "I can't tell you." I had no intention to put her in danger, I just wanted here safe. "Fine, if you can't tell me then we should break up." "What, no it's just that if I tell you, you'd get hurt." "So you are cheating on me"? "No that's not it at all. I can't tell you because if I did something bad would happen to you." As I said that I saw some creature throw a dumpster at us. "Look out" as I grabbed her and ran so fast that the dumpster was like right on top of us before I ran, and we were on the other side of the park. "What's going on"? "Hold on, I have a job to do real quick." I kissed her forehead and flew into battle. Dodging huge punches left and right, then I flew through his ear and found out it was a robot and knew exactly how to shut it down. I hacked into the mainframe system and found the shut off key, then the robot shut down. I flew outside of his it's head and flew back to Aubree. "Aubree are you okay"? instead of getting a response I got a hug instead, so I gave into the embrace. "What was that thing"? "Well that was a robot that tried to kill us but I took care of it, it shouldn't hurt us anymore." "How did you do that"? "What the running or the flying"? "Both." "Well have you heard of St. Arnold the hero"? "Yes I have, why"? "Well he is actually my great-great-great-great-grandfather, and I had a millionth percent chance to obtain his powers and I did, so now I'm a superhero, that was the thing I couldn't tell you, but now you know. You can't tell anybody about this, okay." "Yeah I understand, you made a deal with the government and if you tell anybody then the government is going to kill all of your friends." "Actually that's exactly it, how did you know"? "Lucky hunch, like always." She was always known for her lucky hunches, it's like she knows everything that is going to happen before it happens, like she can see the future. Well figuratively speaking anyone can see the future they just don't know it because it happens as deja vu. But I knew she was special the day I asked her out, I knew she was the one for me the day I laid eyes on her. "Is there something wrong" "Huh oh, sorry just staring off into space like I always do." I had a habit of staring off into space so she understood when I would stare. But what I don't get is why she would want me instead of someone of her own popular kind, I mean she's the most popular girl in school, why would she want to go out with a low-life student like me. I guess it's not on the outside but what's inside the eye of the beholder. "Hey I have to train in using my powers, can I see you tomorrow at the same time"? "Sure go and train you big dork." It was great when we teased each other. But now it was time to train in my powers. After countless days I finally managed to master my frost breath, all I had to do was think chill and there we go, ice out of my mouth, now if I think hot then I should be able to shoot lasers from my eyes. Think hot summer day with chili peppers, and BAM lasers melting the ice. I'm not bad at these super hero powers, soon enough I'll be just like Arnold, "One day Arnold, I will be exactly like you, I just hope I can complete your final mission." 'I know you will,' what was that, was it a ghost haunting me, or a spooky memory just coming back to me. 'No it's me Arnold, I know you'll complete my mission, but keep this in mind, beware your closest allies.' Beware my closest allies, what does that mean? After another month I seemed to have mastered every power known to man, I kinda want to unlock powers that no man has heard of, but I'm lazy and don't feel like doing it, I felt a vibrate in my pocket and took my phone out and I saw a blocked number calling me,"Hello" "Hey Lachlan it's me Professor Poppinstein, just checking on how you're doing with your powers." "Oh I've already mastered all the powers." "Oh really" then I heard him talk to someone and I think I heard something like it's time sir, but I don't know. "Well thank you for mastering all of these powers, I guess I'll see you later then, bye" "Wait what about seeing me later" but it was too late, the Professor had already ended the call. Something was fishy and I was going to find out what it was. Then I got a text, it was from Aubree saying that she wanted to talk again, so I told her it was okay to come to my house. After a few minutes she arrived with a saddened look on her face. "Hey Aubree, what's wrong" "It's my dad, he's had this job for a while and he hasn't been home in forever, I try calling him but his so called assistant answers the phone and says he's not available." "Aubree, I'm sorry for you" "I know you are but it's just that I know where he works and what he does" "What does he do? If you don't mind me asking" "No not at all but he works at this lab that recruited a superhero in training a few months back and is going to use them to take over the world and" "Hold on, what's your father's name" "Well his name is Charlie Dieldrin, but at work he's known as Dr. Dieldrin" "WHAT" "Is something wrong lachlan" "Yes there is, the superhero they made a deal with is me and I refuse to help them take over the world." I was about to go out the door and fly to wherever Dr.Dieldrin was at but was stopped by Aubree. "Wait, I want to go with you." "Are you sure"? "Yes if anyone can change my father it's me" "Well then Aubree, let's go, where does your father work"? "On an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean" "Well then climb on my back." After doing so I flew off to the Pacific Ocean in search for Dr. Dieldrin. Now I know what Arnold was talking about, my closest allies was Professor Poppinstein and Dr. Dieldrin, and it turns out they were evil, so it was my job to stop them once and for all, to complete my great-great-great-great-grandfather's final mission, to take down these criminals. We managed to make it to the island and Aubree knew exactly where the office was that Dr. Dieldrin was in, so I followed her. As we got there Aubree insisted that she went first so she could see her father and try to change his lifestyle, so I as a good boyfriend let her go first but watched closely to see if she got hurt but at the same time hid from the enemy. "Dad, dad are you here, dad." "What do you want, and how did you get here." "Dad I know what you do for a living and I want to stop you from hurting anymore innocent people." "What do you know about my job"? "I know everything, from the giant robot to the squid-snake you created, they both tried to kill me." "Aubree Dieldrin, that is not my fault that you were almost killed by my monsters, because it is your fault for being in the wrong place at the wrong time." "So you didn't care if I died"? "I didn't care if you made a wrong choice, you were always a mistake anyway." "Dad, I thought you loved me" "Well you were wrong, I despise you and hate you for interfering with my plans, why can't you be like your older brother Jareth, he's helping the professor as we speak" "I'm not like him father,I am in love with the one that you want dead, and I plan on getting married to him when you are stopped once and for all, after all you intentionally killed his great-great-great-great-grandfather, remember St. Arnold, the one that risked his life to save the one he loved, yeah she was pregnant and the line continued down to my boyfriend." "Well then looks like I'll have to kill you too." As soon as he said that he pulled out a gun and shot at Aubree, I superspeed in front of her and caught the bullet with my super strength. "So you're the one that is the next world hero, well like Arnold I know how to kill you. Now boys." Then some people popped out of nowhere and grabbed Aubree and brought her to Dr. Dieldrin. I was about to run over to her but Dr. Dieldrin pointed the gun to Aubree's head. "If I were you I wouldn't move another muscle." Instantly I stopped. "Now I know how you got here and I know that the line will not continue because I know she's not pregnant with your baby, in fact you're still a virgin, aren't you hahaha the perfect specimen superhero to draw power from." "If you let Aubree go, I'll let you take my powers" "Lachlan no don't do it, you'll die" "If it means saving you, I'll do it, I'll do anything to save you Aubree." "In that case step into the pod to your left, so I can gain your powers" Dr. Dieldrin had commanded me to do. I did what I was told and stepped into the pod, then he shot her and the door locked I was done for, and she was practically dead, I had lost the battle. I felt my body become limp and I collapsed to the floor, and then everything went dark. I woke up in some sort of bright room and I heard a voice talk to me, "Well is this it, you're just going to give up like that"? Not knowing who or what it was I decided to continue the conversation "Well what can I do the pod locked and is absorbing my powers as we speak, what can I do"? "You can win, you see Lachlan you made a vow to protect the world, you made a vow to protect the ones you love, and you also made a vow to complete my final mission" "Wait St. Arnold, is that you"? "Yes it is I St. Arnold the old hero of this world, I want you to see how I died." And instantly the once bright room turned into a memory of what happened to St. Arnold, he was being electrocuted by energy beams and his powers were being absorbed but before he died he broke out of the pod and to what thought defeated Dr. Dieldrin, but all he did was knock him out and later St. Arnold died. "You see Lachlan, if you don't break out of the pod you will die, I was in there for too long and died of exhaustion, only to find out that evil reigned once more, you made a vow to me and your mother that you would complete my mission, so fulfill that vow and be the hero I know that you are, after all you are Lachlan the brave the second, he was my grandfather and died my death too, I couldn't fulfill his mission but I know you can for me, for your mother, and for Aubree, the love of your life, do it to save her." "But she's dead, I can't save her" "Not necessarily, she has about 5 minutes until she dies, you still have time to save her, make it happen Lachlan, you can do it." I woke up to pain but not much pain, I slowly stood up and focused all of the remaining super strength had into my fist and punched the pod open, I then supersped over to Dr. Dieldrin and gave him a blow so hard it should've cracked his skull, and it did, Dr. Dieldrin was dead. "Self-Destruct in te minus 30 seconds, 29, 28, 27" Oh no the self destruct sequence was activated, I needed to get Aubree to my mom for healing, so I picked her up and flew as fast as I could over to my house. I made it to my house and I had about one minute left, so I kicked open the door and started calling for mom, she heard me and came rushing out into the living room and instantly knew what happened, I laid her on the couch and mom started to recite a healing spell on her. After a few minutes Aubree didn't wake up and I started to cry a little bit. Then I heard a groan, I looked up and saw Aubree opening her eyes. "Lachlan is that you"? "Yes Aubree it's me" "Lachlan, did we do it, did we defeat my dad"? "Yes Aubree we defeated him, he won't be able to harm any more people from here on out" "Lachlan" "Yes Aubree" "I love you" "I love you too Aubree, I love you too."
