- "Yaa, why did you pick such a scary movie?" He leans closer to you as his fingers grip your arm tightly, cold sweat forming on his forehead.
- "Shouldn't I be the one who's seeking protection from you?" You chuckle seeing his cute reaction.
- "You know I can't stand ghosts, monsters, aliens-"
- "Hobi, you're even scared of little spiders!"
- "Spiders are VERY scary & disgusting ok? Those clusters of tiny beads they call eyes. Those spindly legs. Imagine if they crawl under your shirt." He shivers in disgust.
- "Oh no, there's a spider on your shoulder!" Eyes widened, you point at his shoulder.
- "What?!" He instantly jumps off the couch in fright.
- "Gotcha!" You clutch your stomach & laugh out loud.
- You've been friends with Hobi since high school.
- Initially, you didn't see eye to eye with each other because both of you had very different personalities.
- But you gradually grew fond of him because he was a genuinely nice guy & you've been inseparable ever since.
- In fact, he's your first love.
- You've had a huge crush on him for the past year but you don't have the courage to confess to him because you're scared that he doesn't feel the same way.
- Sometimes though, just sometimes, his stare, his touch, his words make you think that he likes you as more than a friend too.
- "Phewww, I'm glad the movie was over. Don't ever ask me to watch scary movies with you again or.." He jokingly glares at you.
- "Or what?"
- "Or I'm going to tickle you to death!" He starts attacking your waist & tickling it with his fingers.
- "Yaaa stop! Hahaha! Stoppp!" You push him away & both of you stumble down onto the floor.
- Somehow, you fall on top of him, your faces only inches apart.
- It's like the time has frozen & the two of you are the only one left in this world.
- He stares deeply into your eyes & you're lost in his beautiful gaze.
- At this moment, you want nothing else but to connect your lips with his.
- Your heart begins to hammer inside your chest, wondering about what he's going to do next.
- So you take a leap & close your eyes.
- "Sorry, I guess I went too far." He abruptly pushes you away & helps you stand up.
- Embarrassment washes over you, you can feel heat creeping up to your face.
- "I-I need to go to the bathroom." You mutter as you quickly run to the bathroom & lock the door behind you.
- "Omg, what did I do? It's going to be very awkward now." You scold yourself as you fan yourself to get rid of the heat.
- "Ok, just say that something got into your eyes & act like nothing happened." You say to your own reflection in the mirror.
- You try to calm yourself down, take a deep breath, & walk out of the bathroom.
- He's talking on the phone with someone & you can hear him as you get closer.
- "Just give me some time. I haven't figured out how to tell her." He says in frustration.
- You swiftly hide yourself behind the wall so that you can listen to his conversation.
- "No! I don't like her that way. She's just my best friend, I swear. But I've never told her about us so I have no idea how she'll take it."
- The moment you hear the word 'us', you know that your hope is crushed.
- Your heart clenches to the point that you can feel the pain physically.
- So I was being delusional when I thought that he liked me too. How stupid of me.
- A bitter scoff escapes your lips as tears roll down your face.
- "Y/n?" Hearing your voice, Hobi suddenly calls out.
- You quickly wipe away your tears & get out of your hiding place.
- "Did you- Did you hear what I was saying?" He hesitantly asks.
- You stare at him, contemplating your options.
- Should I pretend that I heard nothing? Should I show my true feelings & risk losing him as a friend? Or should I give my blessings even though it hurts?
- "I did. Why didn't you tell me that you've got a girl friend?" You ask.
- "S-Sorry. I was going to tell you, but I felt really bad. I don't want you to feel like I'm abandoning you." He awkwardly rubs the back of his neck, gone is the carefree smile he had moments ago.
- "Congrats. I'm happy for you." In the end, you choose option 3.
- "Really? You're not mad?" He asks in disbelief.
- "Yaaa, my best friend finally gets a girl friend, why would I get mad?" You playfully punch his arm & chuckle.
- "Seriously? You're fine with it? I mean I won't be able to spend as much time with you anymore. Is that really ok with you?"
- "Hobi ya, I know you're a great friend, but sometimes I feel like you need to go out more instead of spending every minute with me. So of course I'm happy that you have a girl friend now." You fake a smile for him, although your heart is bleeding.
- "Wow. Now I feel so stupid for agonizing over how to break the news to you. Anw, thanks. So.. we're good, right?" He glances at me, still a bit skeptically.
- "Yeah, we're good."
- Right then, his phone rings again & judging from his expression, it's obviously his girl friend.
- "Y/n ah, I'm sorry but I need to go now. I'll introduce her to you next time ok? I'm sure you guys will get a long because she's really sweet."
- "I'm sure I will. Go now, have fun. Say hi to her from me." You push him to the exit.
- "You sure you're ok?" He turns around & asks again.
- "I'm fineee! Just gooo!" You laugh as you push him out of your apartment & close the door.
- Once he's gone, the smile on your lips slowly turns into a frown & tears stream uncontrollably down your face.
- You grab your phone & begin erasing all pictures of you & Hobi.
- Each time you click delete feels like a bit of your heart is being carved out.
- Goodbye my first love. I guess you were never meant to be mine.
