What an insolent man. How is it possible for one person to be so foolish, so despicable? Raoul de Chagny was of his own breed, that was for certain.

I'd known that he was a drunkard, but I never suspected he was quite this bad. He'd smelled as though he had been living in that bar for days, and his cognitive state only added to that illusion. Of course, I'd known that he had only been there for a few hours—since the previous evening,— but he must have gone through at least a full bottle of whiskey in that time.

Disgusting.

However, what disgusted me the most was how he could wager his family so easily as though they meant nothing to him at all. They were simply poker chips to be gambled with in another game of cards. That alone spoke volumes about what my Christine must have had to put up with on a daily basis as a result of that man.

I wanted more than anything to be able to break her away from the binding chains of her marriage. I wanted her to be free like the beautiful songbird that she was, to not be held in the cage that her husband had been keeping her in.

Fortunately, I knew that she would become mine that very evening, and she would no longer need to have any dealings with the Vicomte. She, myself, and Gustave would be together. I would finally have the perfect little family that I'd always dreamed of having—that I never thought I would ever have.

All I had to do was wait.
