"Well, we have it now. How does it feel to see it again after all these years?" Christine asked with a smile as she and her husband boarded their train to Calais.
"It's...it's a little strange, I must admit, but I'm glad to have it in my possession again. I've been wanting to give it to Gustave as a gift," Erik replied, wrapping an arm around his wife.
"I'm sure he's going to love it." Leaning into her husband's side, Christine gave him another smile as they found two empty seats to sit in. "You know, I still wish we could have brought him with us."
"I do too, but it would have ruined the surprise. If we brought him here to Paris, we would have had to take him to the auction," Erik replied with a nod. He leaned his head against hers. "Don't worry, my love, we'll be back in Coney Island in just a few days, and then we'll be reunited with our boy again."
"I know, and I'm looking forward to that," Christine said softly. Gently, she slipped her hand into his and gave it a squeeze. "Erik...do you think you would ever consider having another child? One that's actually intended this time?"
"Now where is the fun in that?" Erik asked, laughing quietly. "In all seriousness, though, I think it's definitely something to consider. Gustave seems to have turned out just fine, so another one wouldn't be so bad, I think."
"I'm glad to hear you say that, because I wouldn't mind another baby either," Christine replied with a smile, glancing at the music box on her husband's lap. Her eyes scanned every detail of the work of art, and she couldn't help but notice how well-crafted it was. Surely, Erik had spent a good amount of time carefully assembling it. It made her smile to think about.
Noticing where his wife's gaze was focused, Erik reached under the music box to turn the key. When he let go, a gentle, familiar melody began, and the monkey adorning the top began to play his little cymbals. "Do you think Gustave would like it if I showed him how to build his own music box?"
"I think he would like that very much," Christine replied, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
