(Y/N) was my friend for as long as I can remember. I'm Varian. A alchemist living in Old Corona. Everyone always found me weird, avoided me because of my interests. But not (Y/N) she always was excited to watch me work.

I remember when i met her for the first time. I just walked around some thieves that were caught robbing a jewelry shop. I had a lollipop and I was heading back home. When I came across this girl of my age. She was leaning into the fountain trying to grab something. My curiousness got the best of me and so I came closer to see what was going on. She was smaller than me and she was at the verge of tears. She was trying to fish out a earring.

V: "Hey do you need help?"

I said coming closer. She nodded.

(Y/N): "I can't get out my earring, it's from my grandpa. And I can't get my dress wet or mommy will be very mad at me."

She was about to cry.

V: "Don't worry I'll get it for you."

I handed her my lollipop and climbed into the fountain getting the earring and handing it to her.

V: "Here. My clothes will dry before I get home."

She handed me back my lollipop and took the earring putting it back into her ear.

(Y/N): "Thank you so much!"

She started crying.

V: "W-What's wrong? Why are you crying?"

(Y/N): "I'm happy I have my earring back. You're a hero!"

She hugged me when I got out of the fountain.

(Y/N): "My name is (Y/N)."

V: "I'm Varian. I'm from Old Corona. And you?"

(Y/N): "Me too!"

V: "Want to walk to Old Corona with me?"

She smiled and nodded.

So she walked with me. We found out she lives only a street away. So we started to hang out. When I told her I'm interested in alchemy and science she asked if she could help me with my projects or watch me work to learn. I of course said yes.

When my dad got imprisoned in the amber she was there for me. She was trying to put me back on the right path. And I felt like a fool for not listening to her. When I was in prison she visited me every day. She always brought me some food like ham sandwiches, pies, cakes. She started working with her mom in the bakery but she told me that she wants to be a alchemist. That I inspired her.

(Y/N): "But I'm sure I wouldn't be as good as you, you're a genius."

She said one day. And at that moment I felt my heart warm up. My cheeks turning red. I giggled.

V: "I'm just a regular alchemist, you can be just as good as me."

She even went to the king, the queen and even Rapunzel to beg them to make my punishment shorter. She convinced Rapunzel and Rapunzel asked her father so my punishment was shorter.

I got out of jail at the age of 16 and did a big mistake. I left. I didn't tell (Y/N). I left her. I wanted to make everything right. I wanted her, I wanted EVERYONE to forget what wrongs I did... I didn't succeed. I was glad Rapunzel forgave me. The kingdom wasn't all against me anymore. And Rapunzel freed my father. I was so happy. And busy too. I was helping Rapunzel all the time I didn't have time to go and see (Y/N). She didn't come to see me. I'm afraid I hurt her.

I became the Royal alchemist. Turned 18 and now I finally am ready to face her again. I hope she doesn't hate me. That would hurt like hell.

I came to the bakery of her mom.

(Y/N) mom: "Good afternoon how may I help you sir- oh Varian! How long has it been? 3-4 years?"

V: "Good afternoon miss (Y/L/N). Is (Y/N) home?"

(Y/N) mom: "Oh, (Y/N)? She is in her lab. Working on some of her inventions again. Her lab is in the basement."

V: "Thank you miss (Y/L/N)."

I walked down to the basement putting my goggles on in case she's working with bright lights. She was sitting in the corner of the room with orange goggles on her eyes working on something small. I knocked on a wooden pillar in the middle of the room.

She didn't even turn around.

(Y/N): "Mom go away I'm not hungry, thirsty and for the last time I don't want to meet the neighbors son, I'm not interested."

Just now I noticed a big raven in the corner of the room. I pulled my goggles up and I was about to say something when the raven screeched and flew to her. She pulled her goggles up and turned at the raven.

(Y/N): "What's wrong Malak?"

The raven screeched again and flew my way. I ducked to avoid getting hit by him. She turned to face me. She looked surprised.

V: "Hey... Long time no see, huh?"

She kept quiet as the raven landed on her shoulder. She stood up from her chair and came right in front of me.
I didn't know what to say so I awkwardly looked into her eyes.

At that moment fury flashed on her face as she slapped me. I could feel my cheek burning as a red mark of her hand was forming on my face.

V: "I deserved that one..."

(Y/N): "That one is for leaving without a word!"

She screamed with tears in her voice. At that moment she started crying and leaned with her head against my chest. I grew taller than her. She grabbed onto my shirt and cried. Anger and sadness in her voice.

(Y/N): "You left! You left me here alone! You were my only friend! My hero, remember? I was always on your side! I was worried! I thought something happened to you! I was worried you'd be dead! And than you came back! And didn't even come to see if I'm okay! And now you come here? Now?! It's not fair! It's not fair. It's not fair..."

She sobbed into my shirt her legs shaking and failing her. I hugged her and kneeled down so she could sit at the floor.

(Y/N): "You were my hero..."

I felt terrible. The only person I had for few years was now crying in my arms. Because of me. I felt my heart breaking I felt my eyes filling with tears.

V: "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I'm so so sorry... I didn't ment to hurt you... That's the last thing I wanted to do..."

I held her close not wanting to let her go. I was feeling so terrible. I always wanted to make her laugh. And I did the opposite.

(Y/N): "Why now?"

V: "I was scared you'd hate me for what I did. I wanted to make everything right again. So people wouldn't look at you as the one who always was around the villain who did so much harm. I didn't want you to suffer for my actions..."

(Y/N): "You wanted to erase kingdoms memories for me?"

V: "Yes..."

She hugged me back and after few minutes I looked at her. She looked into my eyes and jumped to her feet.

(Y/N): "My god I gave you such a slap, your cheek is still red!"

I got up too.

V: "It's fine. I deserved it."

She shook her head. She waked to a box by her table and I followed. She opened it and cold breeze hit me.

V: "What is that?"

(Y/N): "My invention. A freezer. It's inspired by your invention. It keeps stuff freezed. I made a ice bag. It's great for stuff like this."

She took out a bag full of ice and started breaking the ice in it against the table and than she held it to my cheek and looked at me sorrow in her eyes.

(Y/N): "I'm sorry... Does it hurt much?"

V: "It's fine, really. I deserved it."

She took the ice away and kissed my cheek. My face turned red like tomatoes.

(Y/N): "Better?"

V: "B-Better."

She handed me the ice so I could hold it to my cheek and than turned to her invention.

V: "What are you working on there?"

(Y/N): "a whisk that would work on it's own so mom wouldn't get her hands so tired."

V: "That's a great idea."

(Y/N): "Thanks. But now that you're here let's not talk about my inventions and let's go out. I've been in here for days."

V: "Okay, let's go to the more lively parts of the kingdom."

(Y/N): "Lead the way."

So I did. We hanged out like old times. But this time. It felt more like a date. It was getting late and (Y/N) looked around.

V: "What's wrong?"

(Y/N): "Nothing. I'm wondering if I should head home."

V: "Would you care to join me for a dinner?"

I said in desperate try to keep her with me. She turned to me the light of the sun about to go down reflecting on her hair and eyes. She smiled and said.

(Y/N): "I'd love to."

We had a great dinner at the palace, thanks to Eugene. I went to him and left (Y/N) at the balcony to wait for me. I went to Eugene and asked him a favor to help me set up a dinner at the balcony with the water view. He agreed to help and sent Rapunzel to keep (Y/N)s company.

I came to get (Y/N) and found her and Rapunzel making flower crowns. I offered (Y/N) my hand to get up and she gladly took it and got up. Than she took my goggles off my head and placed the flower crown on my head. She smiled brightly just like when we were kids.

(Y/N): "Rapunzel you were right! These flowers really suit him."

She giggled.

R: "I just thought they would look good on him."

V: "Thanks Rapunzel. Now if you excuse us."

Rapunzel giggled.

R: "Of course. Have fun you two."

(Y/N) waved at Rapunzel while we walked away. I lead (Y/N) to the balcony and sat her down. The sun was setting and was reflecting on the water by us. (Y/N) looked mesmerized by the view.

(Y/N): "Varian... This is beautiful..."

V: "Yeah... It is..."

I said looking at her. She had few flowers in her hair, Rapunzel probably put them there. She looked at me her eyes sparkling. She must have noticed the way I was looking at her because her cheeks turned pink and she looked away.

We had our dinner, talked and laughed it was great. Eugene prepared candles so I lit them up while we talked. We were talking for hours. The stars came up and the moon was shing bright. She had her hand on the table as we talked. I reached to put my hand on hers. She looked me in the eyes cheeks flushed by this action.

(Y/N): "V-Varian..."

She stuttered.

V: "(Y/N) I... I had these feelings for you... For a long time. You were always so good to me. Never saw me as a disappointed, disgrace. You always saw the best in me... And... I love you for that."

She blinked at me for a moment speechless.

(Y/N): "Varian I..."

V: "I understand if you're angry at me for what I did. I understand if you don't feel this way... But I wanted you to know..."

(Y/N): "No, I do. I do feel the same about you. I always did. I never told you because you fell for Cassandra. And I didn't want to stand in the way. But the way you always tried and she turned you down... I was jealous. I was angry. Envious."

I started laughing.

(Y/N): "What's so funny?"

V: "I tried to get together with Cassandra because I thought I didn't have a chance with you. Because you were too good to be true!"

(Y/N): "No way!"

V: "Yes!"

I held her hand. And brushed my thumb against her soft skin.

V: "Will you be my girlfriend?"

(Y/N): "Yes. I'd love to."

She got up and pulled me by my hand.

(Y/N): "I'm getting tired."

I thought for a moment.

V: "Want to go cuddle?"

She blushed to a point where her ears turned red too.

(Y/N): "I-I'd love too..."

I lead her to my room and got my shoes off. She took her off too and than said.

(Y/N): "I don't have any pajamas here..."

V: "You can get one from Rapunzel."

(Y/N): "Good idea. I'll go ask."

V: "Well I'll get a shower before you come back."

(Y/N): "Okay."

She went to ask Rapunzel and so I took my shower. When I walked out of the bathroom. She was there holding a night gown.

(Y/N): "Can I take a shower too?"

V: "Sure.

(Y/N): "Thanks. Will you show me how it works?"

She looked at me red in face. I nodded and went to the shower with her.

She thanked me for explaining the whole thing. And than took a shower.

When she came back she was wearing the purple night gown. Her head wrapped in a towel. She climbed into the bed to me. We cuddled for a while before I heard her breath soften. She fell asleep. I held her close until I fell asleep too.
