Shanna's POV: 

*KNOCK KNOCK* I knocked on the door in front of me and waited, my feet tapping to its own rhythm. A few minutes later, the door swung open and a very familiar face greeted me. 

"Joe!," I hugged him ever so tightly for he was my best friend in the whole world since my childhood. 

"The movie is just about to start Shanna," he smiled. 

I walked into the living room and saw Nick and Kevin already seated with a bowl of popcorn. 

"Hey Shan," Kevin waved and Nick smiled. 

"Hey guys, you weren't planning to start without me, were you?," I giggled. 

"How could we?," Nick replied. 

"Okay, so what are we watching," I asked, taking my seat on the couch next to Joe. 

"Letters to Juliet," Kevin answered, munching popcorn in his mouth. 

"Love story?," I questioned. I wasn't really a fan of romance because of my personal experience with a certain someone. 

"Yes, it's a great movie, Shanna," Joe assured me. 

"Umm, I don't know. It's been a while since I watched sappy movies like this," I looked at Joe. He of all people knew how I felt about love. My past love experience wasn't exactly how I thought it would be. 

"Trust me, It'll be good," Joe was looking me in the eyes then and so I just nodded my head. 

The movie started as I sat back , getting comfortable. The girl in the movie with her boyfriend reminded me of my ex who I had dated for 3 years , only to find out that he was cheating on me. I sighed as the couple in the movie kissed. Love just seemed fake to me. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat as they showed the letters and little notes stuck on the wall. It made me wonder why I never wrote a letter like that. My mind was mostly filled with thoughts about my past as the movie continued... 

About an hour and a half later... 

"So what did you think?," Kevin asked. 

"Umm, that it's all a lie," I rolled my eyes. 

"Love is not a lie, Shan," Joe was giving me love advice. 

"Haha! Take it from someone like me, its fake," I protested. "After all those years of living their lives apart, they still love each other and reunite?? That's impossible, guys. It's just a stupid movie and it doesn't work out in real life," I said firmly, and stood up and left. 

JOE'S POV: 

I paced back and forth in my room. I could feel my brother's eyes on me who were seated on the edge of my bed. 

"Dude, why are you walking like this?," Nick asked. I stopped walking and looked at him and Kevin who was playing with his phone. 

"It's just... I wish I could change Shanna's opinion on love," I sighed and threw a pillow at Kev to catch his attention. 

"Ouch!, bro," he rubbed his arm. "What was that for?,"  

Nick smiled. "And what are you smiling for," Kevin playfully punched Nick. 

"No, it's just that Joe is totally crushing on Shan," he said. 

"So not true, bro," I protested. "Maybe yes...,"

"Ya, right," Kev cocked an eyebrow. 

Nick immediately took out his phone from his pocket and started fiddling with it. 

"Who are you calling?," I was next to him then. 

"Texting Shanna," 

"WHAT, WHY?!," 

"You need to tell her how you feel," Nick replied, just as easy as that. 

"But, you know how she feels! What if she turns me down?,"  

"If you really like her, change the way she feels. You're certainly not like the douche she dated before," Nick seemed more confident than me. I looked at Kevin who was in his own world. 

"Well, what do ya think, Kev?," I asked. 

"Huh!... ya totally," he replied distracted which made me throw another pillow at him. 

"Seriously Joe ?! , you're such a baby," he yelled and I stuck my tounge out at him. 

"I told her to meet us for coffee at Starbucks in 10," Nick continued. "But you'll go without us because something came up and so we had to leave and you'll tell her how you really feel," 

"You're a genius, Nick," I smiled. 

"Don't ruin this, Joe," Nick high-fived me. 

Shanna's POV: 

15 minutes later... 

I was seated across Joe in Starbucks with a caramel latte standing in front of me. 

"It's a bummer Nick and Kevin couldn't make it," I sighed as Joe nodded. 

"So why am I here again?," I looked at Joe. 

"Well...Shan...um...do you think you'll fall in love again?," he asked. I burst out laughing. 

"I'm serious," he replied to my reaction. 

"Well, after my 3 year relationship with that cheater, I don't know if I can trust anyone anymore,"  

"Not even me?," As soon as those words left Joe's mouth, I felt my heart stop. I looked at him bewildered. 

"You..you don't mean...,do you?," I stuttered. 

"Well, I guess its time I was completely honest with you," he said and my heart couldn't stop the excitement I was feeling. Joe, my best friend, I've known him all my life. 

"I really like you, Shan. I've always liked you but ever since you got a boyfriend I guess I just hid my feelings for you but now seeing you hurt I can't take it anymore. I wanna be there for you , to make your hurt go away," he spoke. 

I clung on to every word he said and without me knowing I was crying. 

"Did I say something wrong?," Joe pulled his chair next to me. 

"No ...," I shaked my head.  

Suddenly from behind me Nick and Kev appeared with a guitar and Joe took it from them. They both sat across us. 

Joe lifted my chin with his finger , looked me in the eye and started playing his guitar... 

You, 

You're like driving on a Sunday, 

You, 

You're like taking off on Monday, 

You, 

You're like a dream, 

Dream come true...

Tears welled up in my eyes as he finished singing for that had to be the happiest moment in my life.  

"I love you , Shanna," Joe smiled. 

"I love you too," I replied with tears in my eyes. 

He came closer to me, close enough that it took me a minute to realize that his lips were on mine. I smiled as I closed my eyes and kissed him back. 

"We better get going," Kev suggested.  

Joe got up and held his hand out for me. I took his hand and started walking out of Starbucks, hand in hand with him. He had been with me all my life and yet it took me this long to realize the truth. Love works in crazy ways :)
