~Chapter 2~
-Maya’s POV-
“Momma, I wanna go home!” Viktor whined. I sighed but agreed with the thirteen-year old. This was the first time we have ever moved. And I hated it. I wanted to go back to Nevada. Back to home and my friends.
“Get over it, rebenok*.” Nanna said, slapping the top of his head as she hobbled by. Viktor rubbed the back of his head, messing up his already disheveled brown hair, and pouted.
“Starushka*.” He mumbled.
“What was that?!”
“Nothing, Nanna!” He hurriedly replied. As she stumbled out of hearing range, mumbling nonsense in more Russian, Viktor let out a sigh of relief before letting out Plazma, our husky, from her kennel. She instantly shot off, barking happily.
“Crazy old woman.” I chuckled, nodding.
“Help me unload the car, deti*.” Momma called. Viktor and I sighed before heading over to the black Chevrolet Suburban. As I grabbed two suitcases, I finally took the time to look around.
Nanna’s and Grandpa’s house was right next to ours but both the houses sat on about four acres of land. Their house was quiet, quaint and cottage-looking. There was a water fountain in the middle of the circle driveway. We also had a circle driveway except two large trees and several boulders were scattered on the expanse of grass in the middle. One of the trees even had a wooden swing attached to one of the branches.
My new house was wooden and built in an L shape. The right corner of the L was visible from the road and at the end of the L-shape was a second story with a staircase on one of the porches leading up to a door on the outside.
“Tiny.” Viktor muttered, looking around with a sigh. He was used to our mostly dirt home that was positioned on twenty acres. With this little amount of land, his four-wheeler riding is going to be extremely limited.
We walked up the four stairs into the first porch which also had the front double doors. Mom unlocked it before opening the doors with a grin. We were met with a living room with dark wooden floors and two windows each on two walls. There was an open archway that led into a kitchen on the one wall that didn’t hold anything while the last one was the one that had the front door on it. Our black leather couches and our rolled up rug along with all our boxes were piled in the middle of the room and I dropped my suitcases, heading into the kitchen. There was another archway straight across from the one I entered which led into a hallway. On one side of the kitchen were granite-topped counters with dark wooden cabinets above them. There was a break for the fridge and the window which was right in front of the sink. There was our microwave on one of the counters and a dishwasher was also set next to the sink. There was a dark wooden six-seat table on the other side of the kitchen and the floor was a cream-colored tile. The walls were a cream color as well.
I moved past that, going into the hallway. Right next to the archway was a door and – glancing inside – I found a bathroom. As I continued down the hallway I found two bedrooms – one the master and therefore moms and the other was kinda small. At the end of the hall was a sliding glass door leading onto the other porch along with a black, metal spiral staircase. My eyes lit up and I quickly bounded up the stairs, coming out to a small space which could easily hold a comfy chair and a small bookshelf. There was also a door which led out to the staircase outside.
There were two other doors and I quickly glanced inside. One was a slightly small room which could be used as a guest room and the other was a large room with a window seat and another window on another wall.
“I call this room!” I instantly yelled.
“What?!” I heard the sound of pounding footsteps and smirked as Viktor appeared. He glanced around the room then started pouting.
“No fair! I want this room!” He whined. I snickered and motioned my hand for him to run along.
“You can either have the one near mom or the small room over there.” I chuckled. He started grumbling, glancing in the smaller room then stomped down the stairs. I grinned, looking out the window that didn’t have the seat. I could easily open it and jump onto the first floor roof. I looked up at the sky and smirked. Perfect star-gazing spot.
I went over to the window seat one and looked out. It was a view of the front yard. I glanced at the house across from ours and it was a cream colored two story house with those fancy beams like in Washington D.C. at the Lincoln Memorial. I snorted and headed out of the room, sighing. Time to start unpacking.
