BIRD KID 2 (unfinished chapter 1) [Maximum Ride]

I watched as Max panted, blood dripping down her lip as she fought against two R.E.s, the Robotic Erasers. She let out a yip of pain as one’s fist connected with her shoulder and I heard the distinct sound of cracking, signifying one of her bones breaking.

“I think we should move in soon. This is a bigger pack than we expected.” Copy commented, standing on my left while Pyro was on my right. The blonde, green eyed fourteen year old was watching Max and the rest of her flock as they fought.

Iggy and Gazzy were fighting back to back while Nudge and Angel were doing the same. Fang was on one side of the clearing while Max was on the other. They were severely outnumbered, and the odds weren’t looking too good.

“We’ll wait until it gets critical. Who knows, they’ve pulled off miracles before.” I commented, making the four other members of my pack nod. Snap was on the other side of Copy, his silver eyes evaluating the situation with a critical eye. The fifteen year old was the silent, calculating type after all, and he was easily overlooked due to the dark silver hair hiding most of his face and the baggy gray and black hoodie he wore with the hood up.

Trance was on the other side of Pyro, her bright orange hair pulled back into a high ponytail. Hypnotic purple eyes were watching Nudge and Angel as the young blonde suddenly got grabbed by an R.E.

“Tornado….” Copy mumbled, he’s eyes watching the six in concern.

I waited still, my eyes flickering from one bird-kid to the other. When I saw the R.E. move his hand towards Angel’s wing with no doubt the intention of breaking it, I finally shot my hand out.

The R.E. froze in its actions, ice suddenly coating its entire body. After it was forced to drop the young girl, it was frozen completely into a block of ice before shattering, pieces raining down from the now destroyed R.E.

Angel was staring up at the R.E., her expression one of complete and utter confusion. Nodding to the rest of the pack, I spread out my wings and jumped off the huge branch we watched from. Within seconds we touched down in the clearing, dispatching the thirty or so R.E. within thirty seconds. Six combusting into flames, five more being frozen, six being swarmed by a swarm of blonde fourteen year olds, six exploding due to high-pitched sound waves and the last six getting their heads jerked off by an invisible force.

“What in the hell is happening?” Gazzy suddenly yelled, looking around in utmost confusion. Slowly the six bird-kids grouped themselves together, staring at us as we all returned to each other. Trance appeared out of thin air, her eyes emotionless and bored as always.

“You guys finally got in a situation where we had to help you.” I commented in amusement, raising an eyebrow.

Max stepped forward, her eyes narrowed. “Who are you five? Why’d you help us?”

“Max, Max, Max. Is that anyway to thank us? If it wasn’t for me, your little Angel would have a snapped wing. Maybe it would’ve been torn off, no idea.” I shot her a mischievous grin, making Pyro roll his eyes at my actions. He knew I would no doubt end up teasing these five to no end. Especially since they were all so….inexperienced compared to Copy and Trance, who were the same age as the oldest three.

“You’re the people that I kept sensing.” Angel suddenly realized, her baby blue eyes widening as she held her stuffed bear closer to her.

Furrowing my eyebrows, I stared at her for a moment before nodding. “That’s right, I forgot about the mind reading for a moment. We’ve got mind barriers up though, so that’s why you usually can’t detect us.

Angel frowned and I felt her prodding at my mind for a moment before she scowled in realization that I had told the truth. We had all had Trance teach us how to construct powerful mind barriers, so that mind readers or hypnotists like her could never get in.

“Anyway, we’re the Pack. We’re the first avian-human hybrids, your predecessors.” Giving a mocking salute, I glanced over the other four members of my group, making sure none had gotten injured despite the tiny group of Robotic Erasers.

“How come we’ve never heard of you before?” Iggy questioned, his eyebrows furrowing as he looked a few inches to the right of my face. I had to hand it to the blind boy, he was pretty good at sensing peoples positions.

“We were kept in isolation, away from the other experiments. We were too….unstable, I believe.” I smirked in amusement, running a hand through my bluish-black shoulder length hair.

“How do you know you’re the first avian, then?” Max questioned, a hand on her hip as she rose an eyebrow.

My eyes narrowed and I frowned. “Because we’ve broken into far more institutes and hacked into far more computers than you have. We’ve gotten our information, your information and several other peoples.
