The Barn Nightclub^^^
"Come on Candy! Haul ya' ass out here!" Joan screamed through the window of her ford ranger. As she parked in front of Candy's house.
Candy burst through the screen door of her parents house. The door slapped the door frame as she raced down the walkway in the front yard.
"Don't stay out to late! And have a good time!" Candy's dad yelled in her wake.
"Sure thing pop!" Candy shouted back as she smiled and waved at his smiling face.
"You ready for this?" Joan asked as they pulled away. She didn't wait for Candy's answer, but stomped on the gas.
"I am so ready for this!" Candy could not contain her excitement over the fact Joan and her were on their way to see one of the hottest bands in the area.
Candy had been crushing on the lead singer of the group for the last two years. She had been trying to save money for a ticket to one of their show for mouths. Her dad had surprised her with tickets for her just days ago.
Candy did not think her feet had touched the ground yet. She had been on cloud nine for days. Joan was much the same, she claimed to be in lust with drummer of 'Back Roads' ever since they played at their homecoming dance.
"I still can't believe they accepted to play The Barn. I still think Amber was a nut for breaking up with Don." Joan rolled her eyes. Because 'Back Roads' was a local group that had made it big. The group was the topic of every conversation.
"Yeah." Candy replied with a dreamy tilt to her voice. She got lost in her last high school year. That was the year she fell for Josh Green. He was so incredibly handsome. She tried her best to get him to notice her. The following summer the band was in was discovered, and all her efforts were waisted.
"Earth to Candy, you still in there girl?" Joan laughed as Candy blinked in her direction. "I thought I lost you there for a minute. Good thing Barbie cut Josh lose, right?" Joan gave her a sad look. Barbie and Candy had been bitter enemys since middle school.
The big break up was the talk of the town for some time now. It was to that Barbie and she had been best friends when they were younger. That was until Josh came along. Barbie knew that was until Josh came along. Barbie knew that Candy liked him. She never failed to remind Candy that Josh was with her.
Joan had remained her shoulder to cry on. They shared their mutual crushes and their friendship only grew stronger.
The trip to 'The Barn' did not take more than ten minutes. If you didn't know the area you would never find the club. There was no road side sign lite up in neon by the road. Just a small white sign with barn red letters spelling out 'The Barn'.
The single lane road had no street lights to mark the way. Just two massive corn fields on eather side. Another five minute drive got them to where the fields open up to reveal a huge red barn.
They made their way to the front entrance, and handed over the tickets to the head bouncer Dave. "You ladies have a good time. And if any of these jerks bother you don't hesitate to call Big Wes. He working this side of the club." As he showed them their seats.
Big Wes was perched on a tall bar stool by the wall. He had his normal black coffee cup in his hand. "Is he drinking regular or unleaded tonight?" Candy giggled as Dave rolled his eyes.
"Unleaded!" Dave strongly said as he walked away.
They ordered their drinks and watched the many people move around the room. The place was packed for the show. The pool tables were full as well as the bar. Four bartenders moved quickly to fill all the drink orders that was coming their way.
"Welcome! I hope all of you are ready to party with some home town boys!" Clark Brown shouted over the cheering crowd. Candy and Joan shot to their feet as well. "Let's give these home town boys a big welcome!"
Josh lead the band on stage as the band members picked up their instruments. Don Chase jumped to the drum stage and got ready to play.
Josh look like every country girl's wet dream. His plaid shrit and blue jeans were straining to contain his muscular body. Top that off with a cowboy hat and boots. He so beautiful. Candy thought to herself.
"Let's get this party started!" Josh yelled over the cheering crowd.
For the next five songs Joan and Candy dance and enjoyed the show. Suddenly Josh's eyes locked with Candy's across the crowded dance hall.
Her breath got caught in her lungs. Joan grabbed her arm. "He looking at you!" Josh gave Candy a wicked smile and wink.
He looked over his shoulder and got Don's attention. Don's eyes went straight to Joan and he gave her the biggest smile.
Josh turned his eye back to Candy and pulled the mic close to his mouth.
"Hey girl," He mutters as he held Candy captive with his blue eyes. "go on now!" He gave her a surly smile
"You know you've got everybody lookin'"
"This is your song from homecoming!" Joan screamed at Candy. "You've got to sing with him!"
It was true, Josh had pulled Candy up on stage at homecoming. They sang this very song together that night. Candy was sure they would get together that night. Only to watch him walk away with Barbie after the show. She hated the fact that she missed the opportunity because she was on the clean up committee.
This time she was determined not to miss out.
Got a little boom in my big truck
Gonna open up the doors and turn it up
Gonna stomp my boots in the Georgia mud
Gonna watch you make me fall in love
Get up on the hood of my daddy's tractor
Up on the tool box, it don't matter
Down on the tailgate
Girl I can't wait
To watch you do your thing
Shake it for the young bucks sittin' in the honky-tonks
For the rednecks rockin' 'til the break of dawn
The DJ spinnin' that country song
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon
Shake it for the birds, shake it for the bees
Shake it for the catfish swimmin' down deep in the creek
For the crickets and the critters and the squirrels
Shake it to the moon, shake it for me girl
Aw, country girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Country girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Sombody's sweet little farmer's child
With a gattle in her Bud to get a little wild
Pony-tail and a pretty smile
Rope me in from a country mile
So come on over here and get in my arms
Spin me around this big ole barn
Tangle me up like grandma's yarn
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Shake it for the young bucks sittin' in the honky-tonks
For the rednecks rockin' 'til the break of dawn
For the DJ spinnin' that country song
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon
Shake it for the birds, shake it for the bees
Shake it for the catfish swimmin' down deep in the creek
For the crickets and the critters and the squirrels
Shake it to the moon, shake it for me girl
Country girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Country girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Guitar!
Now dance, like a dandelion
In the wind on the hill underneath the pines
Yeah, move like the river flows
Feel the kick drum down deep in your toes
All I wanna do is get to holdin' you
And get to knowin' you
And get to showin' you
And get to lovin' you
'Fore the night is through
Baby, you know what to do
Shake it for the young bucks sittin' in the honky-tonks
For the rednecks rockin' 'til the break of dawn
For the DJ spinnin' that country song
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon
Shake it for the birds, shake it for the bees
Shake it for the catfish swimmin' down deep in the creek
For the crickets and the critters and the squirrels
Shake it to the moon, shake it for me girl
Aw, country girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Country girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Country girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Country girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Girl, shake it for me
Every word she sang right along with Josh. He never moved his eyes from her face. It was as if the rest of the room didn't matter. They were all alone.
When the song ended he grabbed the mic again. "We are going totake a little break and get a drink. Then we will start the party up again." Candy eyes follow him as he made his way to her.
Tonight she would not miss out on him. She would make sure of that."looks like our night is looking up!" Joan whispered in her ear. As Don jumped from the stage following in josh's wake.
Yeah, definitely looking up!
