I looked at the shoes before me, they are so nice... this place is amazing, making shoes for the queen is something. I look over to my left and see a sign. It reads: apprentice needed. I get excited then remember, I'm just a poor boy that wishes for miracles... why would they ever want me. I notice movement in the window and I quickly run to a nearby alley. I notice pretty ribbons and fabric in their trash, it's not the first time... I go to grab the ribbon when a door opens.

"Hey you!!" A boy shouts.

I quickly turn to see an angry red head boy.

"What do you think your doing? First you put your dirty snots on the window I clean, then steal from us? Who do you think you are!" He shouts at me angerly.

"The trash is for grabs, you threw it away." I say back and grab the ribbon. "Now it's my turn for a use of it."

With that he only got angryer, but was stopped.

"Max who are you yelling at exactly?" I hear a voice say.

Next thing I know, Adam, the shoe maker himself, stands at the door way. He notices me and the ribbon.

"Um..." I barely squeak, it's him!

"Hello, what do you need that for? Was little Max over here bothering you?" He asks rubbing the boys head, who seemed unpleased.

"No not at all sir, i was just getting the ribbon for shoes." I say nervously.

He looks down at my ragged shoes.

"For my mother. She cant walk so i still let her know her legs and feet are pretty with shoes." I say a bit embarassed.

"He is a thief!" Max blurts out.

Adam turns to him, giving him a cold stare before turning back to me.

"Go, make your mother happy." Adam smiles. "Come by anytime you want, Ill save some scraps I don't need for you." He smiles.

My eyes light up in delight and surprise.

"Thank you sir!"
