"Alright, Dude. I got it. No cussing and be nice. You have already told that a million times by now!" I deadpan into the call. "But I have no clue how I'm going to manage to do that!" I sighed frustrated as I watched the minute hand pass by seven on my wristwatch.
"I'd call you a pussy, but you lack the depth and warmth." my best friend, Angie retorted. I frowned.
"Oh fuck you, Angie," I grumbled under my breath.
She chuckled the same time as I groaned.
"I knew I should have just stuck cleaning the house. If it wasn't for you to threaten to burn my Book collection-which you wouldn't hesitate to- I would have never ever thought about coming here. You know that I am not good at Blind dates. The last time I did this, I started to talk to a candle on the table completely ignoring my date, just because I couldn't hold my liquor." I cringed as the memories resurfaced. She continued to chuckle.
"Oh come on. It wasn't that bad." she tried to convince me.
I shook my head. "Yea. It wasn't bad. It was the worst! According to a survey, 93.27 percent of men can hold their liquor. Why do I have to be the unfortunate 6.73 percent? It's motherfucking annoying and so unfair." I whined.
"Oh lord, I thought at least this time you'll decide to skip talking with your nerdy brain. And it also surprises me how much you cuss when you are a nerd," she comments. I shrugged even though she could not see it.
"And how many times have I told you to think out of that stupid stereotype?" I seethed to which I earned a chuckle.
"Well anyways, I promise that this one is going to be amazing" She gave her word.
"That's what you said the last time," I grumbled under my breath.
"What?"
"Nothing." I sighed. From my perennial vision, I saw a girl scurry timidly towards the table I sat. She looked pretty similar to what Angie described.
"Alright. I think she's here. Bye Angie" I breathed out.
"Bye, Matt. Good luck. And remember, no cussing." with that she cut the phone.
"Hi. Are you Matt Ledger?" an angelic voice rang in my ear.
I gulped and looked at her over my lashes. My eyes widen ever so slightly as I took in her appearance.
She had a decanter shaped waist that was pampered with a dress pigmented by the French beast's cursed rose itself. Her legs were exposed from the end of the folded thick material of her dress that fell down to just above her knees. Her complexion had an impeccable, aurum hue that would put a scratchless gold to shame.
Her Eden-green eyes portrayed the hidden forest that even Dora couldn't explore. They were like two beryl-green jewels that melted onto the snow. These spectacular orbs were surrounded by her pencil-thin eyebrows that eased down gently to her black, beetle-leg eyelashes. A sculptor could not have fashioned her seraph's ears and pixie's nose any better.
Her pinched lips looked like rose petals which made me not mind getting pierced by the thorns to possess it. She held a captive aroma of cinnamon and fresh-cut meadow mint that lingered across my nose.
When she broke into a smile, she made me forget the regret I possessed a while ago and made me want to fall to her feet.
Filed to perfection, her Venus-red fingernails ran through her nougat-brown hair.
Damn... my English teacher would have been proud of that description.
"Matt?" her face diverged into a frown even though her eyes seemed to be fixed somewhere else. I cringed and gulped.
"Y-Yes?" I managed to croak out and stood up. I wondered if I was that bad that she couldn't even endure looking at my face, directly.
"You must be Eveline." I went to her side and pulled out her chair. Her ears twitched at the chair screeching across the floor. I mentally facepalmed myself. "Sorry." I apologized. She shook her head while smiling and took her seat gracefully.
I took my seat and continued to wonder if her personality would resemble her non-questionable looks.
She seemed not to acknowledge my rude staring and drank her wine all while mastering to look sophisticated. But one thing I noticed that made me feel somewhat bad was how her eye wavered around even though I sat right in front of her. Did she not like me?
I mentally cringed as my last blind date event resurfaced. I looked at the wine glass in front of me and shook my head.
Nope. Not falling for you again.
The waitress arrived shortly and handed down our menus. Eveline put out her hand and pushed the menu back to the waiter.
"I'll have a medium rare steak with Caribbean spicy gravy along with mashed potatoes and caviar aside." she recited smoothly. The waitress smiled and nodded. She her head to me expectedly but fixed her gaze somewhere behind me.
I panicked. "Uh... I'll have the same" I said before clearing my throat. She nodded and went away to resume her job.
I peeked over at Eveline who still had her gaze behind me.
I scrunched my face in confusion as I turned back to see her staring at the wall
"Are you Alright? You seem to be occupied with your thoughts." I intrigued.
She panicked And shook her head frantically.
"N-Nothing" she assured. "I'm just... thinking. Sorry." She bit her lip and looked down at her lap.
"So, Matt, tell me about yourself," she said after a while and faced me but still avoided any eye contact. I had a frantic expression on.
"Well, I'm twenty-five and write books for living," I said and mentally braced myself for her disappointing response.
Her eyes widen. "Really? An author? That's great! I really respect them." She replied much to my surprise.
I laughed nervously. "Thank you." There was a pregnant pause. "What about you? tell me about your self." I encouraged.
She shrugged. "Well, I'm Twenty Two. I just finished my degree in Biotechnology. But I mostly help the social groups and do community services that mainly focus on helping disabled people arise." I raised my eyebrow in surprise.
"Impressive." I complimented. "That's very impressive and also very chivalrous of you to do that," I said.
She smiled. "Thank you." she simply said before the food arrived.
We chatted animatedly all while we ate.
Something that i noticed was how she used the cutlery. She always fideled with it, and and made clanking sounds like she wasn't really used with it. But, despite the lack of her cultural use, she seemed to behave with grace and sophistication that I tremendously envied.
We finished the meal and went out for a walk in the gardens within the Lé étoile property where we had dinned.
We walked side to side as my suit occasionally brushed her arm. I took in the lovely appearance of the bushes that were pampered by nectar-filled flowers.
But she seemed to be interested in hearing the chirping of the crickets that echoed across the land all while she closed her eyes and breathe periodically.
"So, what is the most desired place in this planet for you?" I tried to make a conversation.
"An Old decayed Cave." she replied much to my surprise. My eyebrows shot up.
"Why is that?" I enquired as we came to a halt.
"Because that is the only place I can see as it is." she answered as she opened her eyes and looked forward. I frowned in confusion.
"What do you mean by that, Eveline?" I asked.
She turned to me and smiled sadly.
"Matt," she paused. "I'm blind" Her voice echoed in my ears.
I stayed rooted in my place as I stared back at her in shock.
That was when I realized that, whatever I'd want to call our date today, I sure did have did have a Blind date.
And I couldn't be happier that she couldn't see my supposed hideous state.
So, I guess, we could work out.
I smiled back and gave a curt nod.
"Right."
