To Put an End to a Triangle

Hiya! I have a new one-shot for you all. It's a Taehyung ship one-shot that is inspired by something I honestly can't remember. I came up with this plot a while back and I just got around to writing it recently, so I can't really remember how I came up with it in the first place. Anyway, usually, I specify which ship the one-shot is centered around, but this one I am keeping it a secret. The reason for that is the story is focused on this idea that Taehyung is in a love triangle and has to figure out which of the guys he likes more. I want you to try to figure it out along with him and see if you guessed correctly who Tae ends up with. I will tell you that the two competitors are Jungkook and Jin, but don't start making assumptions on who he'll choose before reading the story. They both are very compelling boys with each of their own charms. That being said, let's get into the story!

"Okay, okay, I'm here! What's the emergency?!" Jimin exclaims loudly as he bursts into Taehyung's apartment. Namjoon trails behind him with a tired look on his face as he shuts the door and locks it. Taehyung is sitting on the couch in the living room and glances at his friend with a look of relief as he takes a seat beside him. "This!" Taehyung says, shoving his phone in front of Jimin's face. Jimin blinks a couple of times in surprise before slowly reading what is on the screen. "Ah..." Jimin says, nodding his head, "So, this is about Jungkook-ssi and Seokjin-ssi..."

"You called us here cause of boy problems?" Namjoon questions, taking a seat on an armchair next to the couch.

"For the record, I called Jimin," Taehyung states, "Not you."

"Well, you interrupted our date..." Namjoon says.

Taehyung sighs, "I'm sorry. I just didn't know who else to reach out to about this."

"It's fine, Tae," Jimin says, "I'm your best friend and Namjoon is your brother. If you're going through something, we're here to help."

"Thanks," Taehyung says, "It's just that I feel like I need to make a decision. They're both great guys and they're both waiting for me to choose one of them to date. I don't want them to feel like I'm stringing them along..."

"I know exactly how you feel," Jimin says, "And don't worry, I'll help you figure this all out. You helped me when I was trying to figure out my own love triangle. Now, I'll help you out an end to yours..."

"You're amazing, Jiminie," Taehyung says with a smile, "Where would I be without you?"

"That's what best friends are for," Jimin beams.

"Wait a minute....your own love triangle?" Namjoon questions with narrowed eyes, "How come I never knew about this?"

"You're too oblivious for your own good sometimes, hyungie," Taehyung says, "Don't worry though, Jiminie found it endearing. That's why he ultimately chose you."

"Thanks...I think..." Namjoon says, "Who was the other person?"

"Oh....just Yoongi hyung," Jimin says as if it's no big deal.

"Yoongi hyung!" Namjoon exclaims with wide eyes, "You had a thing with him!"

"It's all in the past," Jimin says, brushing it off, "It worked for the best anyway. Yoongi hyung is now happy with Hoseok hyung and I'm happily together with you."

"I still don't understand why I never knew..." Namjoon pouts.

"We'll talk about this later, Joonie," Jimin says before turning to grab his friend's hands and squeezing them, "Right now, TaeTae needs our help figuring out which guy is right for him."

"Do you really think that you can figure it out?" Taehyung asks before explaining in a soft tone, "I've been thinking about it for a while now and I just can't. I like both of them for different reasons. I don't think I can pick one over the other..."

"Trust me," Jimin says, "I'll help you work this out. You'll know which boy is the one for you at the end of this. I'm sure of it!"

"What do you even plan on doing?" Namjoon questions, "Weighting the traits about each of them, like who makes you laugh or who you like talking to more?"

"Of course not," Jimin says, "Love is more than just those things. You should know that. Just relax and leave it to the professional, Joonie. I'll handle this." Namjoon sighs and shakes his head, leaning back in his chair and allowing the two to do whatever they want. "How are you going to figure this out?" Taehyung asks.

"I'm just going to ask you some questions about your relationship with them and based on your answers...we'll have our winning guy," Jimin says.

"How is that any different from what I said?" Namjoon questions.

"Hush, Joonie," Jimin says, "I'm trying to help my best friend." Namjoon sighs again before crossing his arms over his chest and letting his mouth fall shut. "Okay, first off, tell me about the first time you met each of them," Jimin says.

"You already know that though," Taehyung says.

Jimin nods, "I do, but tell me again. It's for the sake of this study...."

"Um, okay..." Taehyung says before taking a deep breath and explaining, "I met Jungkook at this gallery launch party for one of my friend's friend. Jungkook just so happened to be acquainted with that friend, so we were introduced to each other. We hit it off the second we met and pretty much spent the entire night getting to know each other. I don't know why, but that night was just something else. Everything seemed brighter and I felt giddy. Maybe it was the alcohol...or maybe it was Jungkook. I don't really know. I mean...I usually get along pretty well with others, but Jungkook and I clicked in a way that....just hasn't happened before with anyone except for you, Jiminie."

"Interesting..." Jimin hums, "What about Seokjin-ssi?"

A smile creeps onto Taehyung's face as he recalls the moment he first met Kim Seokjin, "Hyung had just moved into the apartment at the end of the hall. The elevator had been broken for ages, so he was lugging all his stuff up the stairs. He thought that he could just bring it all up in a one way trip, so he stacked everything onto one another in a tall pile. Long story short, he tripped and his belongings were all over the place. I just so happened to be heading out to work at the time and decided to stop and help him out. We were chatting while we cleaned up and before I knew it an hour had passed and I was late to work. I decided to just call in sick and help Jin hyung finish unpacking..."

"You ditched work for a total stranger, but you couldn't take the day off to help me when I got my wisdom teeth pulled," Namjoon huffs.

"Shush, Joon," Jimin says, "Seokjin-ssi was clearly something special to Taehyung and that's why."

Namjoon tuts, "More special than your older brother..."

"Next question!" Jimin announces, "When did you realize that you had feelings for them?"

"It was a month after the party. Jungkook and I had exchanged phone numbers that night and had been talking to each since then. We didn't really get the chance to meet up or anything, we both had busy schedules and all, but we did text or call each other any chance that we got. I think I noticed my feelings for him when we stayed up all night talking over the phone. For some reason, neither of us could sleep, so we decided to call each other. We chatted for hours about pure nonsense, not for a second getting sleepy. If anything, talking to Jungkook over the phone at 3 am in the morning made me feel more energized. That's what made me realize that I liked him. I've never stayed up that late just to talk to someone over the phone before. But, I did it with Jungkook and I enjoyed it. I don't think I would have if it was a call with anyone else," Taehyung says, "As for Jin hyung, we were basically neighbors. He became this constant in my life. We would head out of the apartment together and grab a quick breakfast before both heading to work. We would come home around the same time too and would always say goodnight to one another. I think I always had a small crush on him. He was that stereotypical good-looking boy next door. He was sweet and kind and he would make me smile. It wasn't until he invited me over for dinner one night that I realized that my feelings were more than just a silly crush. I had been inside his apartment before, but that day I was so nervous. There were butterflies in my stomach and my palms were sweating. And when he served dinner...I was just in awe. He had cooked the meal all by himself just for me. If I hadn't fallen head over heels in love with him after that...I would've been crazy..."

Jimin slowly nods his head, a thoughtful look crossing his face as he considers his friends words, "What about them? When did they first fall for you? Or better yet, when did they confess?"

"Jungkook confessed first," Taehyung says, "He texted me to ask me where I worked one day. I didn't think much of it and just gave him the address. The next day, he came to my building with his phone playing music and he sang a love song to me. I had no idea that he had such an amazing voice...I mean he has the looks of an idol...but if you could just hear him sing. You would be in awe. There's no words to properly describe how beautiful his voice is. Even though he did this big reveal thing in front of my co-workers and other people, I wasn't embarrassed. The entire world just melted away when I made eye contact with him. It was like he and I were the only two people there. It was like that song he was singing was for my ears only. It was just all so special...." A sweet smile appears on Taehyung's face and he gets this faraway look in his eye as he starts to daydream about the song. "That sounds super sweet," Jimin says, "Did Seokjin-ssi do something grand like that too?"

Taehyung nods his head, "He made me food. Heart shaped food. I don't mean just one or two dishes either. He made enough food to last me at least two months. They were all outside my doorstep with this adorable hand-written note that had this sweet little poem in it. I can't remember it off the top of my head, but it was really nice."

"What did he make you?" Jimin asks, "Cookies? Brownies? Cake?"

"All those deserts and more," Taehyung says, "I think I still have some in my fridge. I don't know how he did it, but he managed to make a heart shaped kimchi pancake and heart shaped pasta and heart shaped chicken and heart shaped tteokbokki and so, so many more heart-shaped foods. He must have spent hours in the kitchen just making all that stuff for me. It was such a sweet gesture and I could tell how much effort he had put into it. He had poured all his affections into each and every dish. No one has ever gone through such lengths just to confess their feelings to me before."

"You have some really nice guys pining for you, TaeTae," Jimin says, "This isn't going to be easy to figure out..."

"I know..." Taehyung sighs, "Going through all this again just makes me even more confused."

"We're not done yet," Jimin says, "I said that I would help you figure this out and I meant it. Next question, what was your first date like?"

"You went on dates with both of them?" Namjoon questions with raised eyebrows.

"It wasn't exactly a date...we were just hanging out one on one," Taehyung says.

"That's a date," Namjoon states in a tone that insinuates he finds it weird.

Taehyung frowns, "So, what? It's not like I'm cheating or anything. It's just dating."

"That's right," Jimin says, "Taehyung isn't a taken man until his relationship with either of them is made official. Right now...they're at that stage where it's clear they like each other but they aren't actually together. But, by the end of this, Tae will be a taken man! Now, Taehyungie, answer my question."

"Jungkookie and I went to the arcade. I know it seems kinda childish and stuff, but I've always been a little kid on the inside. The same could be said about Jungkook. He got super competitive when we were playing the games. It was absolutely adorable. He got all pouty when he lost and would get this determined glint in his eyes when he would be set on beating the record for skee-ball or basketball. He spent a good thirty bucks trying to win a stuffed puppy for me. In the end, he did win it for me...just like he promised he would," Taehyung says with a wide smile on his face, his eyes shining brightly as he retells the happenings of his date with Jungkook, "I had a lot of fun that day, just playing games without a care in the world. Some may think it was a bad date cause it was at an arcade, but I liked that we didn't do anything fancy. I don't need a candle light dinner. I just want to have fun with the person I like. And Jungkook did just that by taking me to the arcade."

"An arcade is such a fitting first date spot for someone like you," Jimin says, "You're inner child must have been so happy."

"He was jumping with glee," Taehyung beams.

Jimin grins, "What about your first date with Seokjin? Did he take you to a candlelight dinner? He seems to like wooing you with nice dishes of food."

"We did have great food," Taehyung says, "But, not on a nice, fancy dinner table..."

"Explain," Jimin says.

"He took me to this park that I've never been to before," Taehyung says, "Jin hyung knew that I liked to take pictures, so he took me to a place that I could to my heart's content. He found a park with the prettiest flowers and trees and scenery. He took me there and it was just breathtaking. It was like I was in a whole other realm. I never clicked that button on my camera so many times in my life. I used up so much storage that day, but it was totally worth it. I got to capture this magical place and it was so much fun. I never would have gotten the chance to do that if it weren't for Jin hyung. He even prepared a cute little picnic under this huge willow tree with dishes he made by himself. Kimbap, rice balls, egg rolls, and a bunch of other side dishes..."

"Why were they fun?" Jimin asks.

"Huh?" Taehyung questions.

"You said that both of the dates were fun," Jimin says, "Why? What made them fun?"

"They were fun for different reasons..." Taehyung says, "My date with Jungkookie was fun cause I got to spend time with him doing something with a bit of friendly competition. My date with Jin hyungie was fun cause I got to take beautiful photos that I wouldn't have gotten the chance to if he hadn't introduced me to that park."

Jimin hums under his breath as he slowly nods his head, "Okay, one last question. After those dates....after you told them that you needed some time to figure out what you wanted to do. What did they do to try to convince you? Like did they do anything sweet in order to sway your mind? Did they try to do some like good-natured courtship?"

"Courtship?" Namjoon questions, "Really? In this day and age?"

"Hush, Joon!" Jimin exclaims, "Tae?"

"Well....Jungkook would always send a lot of gifts to my work or to my apartment," Taehyung says, "It always was something different. He never sent the same thing twice. It made it all sort of exciting. I never knew what to expect each time I got the mail or entered the office. One day it was this really pretty painting...the next it was this gorgeous ring....the day after that a huge box of sweet chocolates. He spent time getting me something different every single day. It made me feel really special and...I just knew how much he cared for me with all the gifts he sent my way."

"Seokjin-ssi?" Jimin asks, "Was he a charmer too?"

"More of a foodie," Taehyung says, "He would start making me lunch to bring to work and would always bring over food for me, saying they were leftovers when they clearly weren't. He also sent me snacks and candies often. It was usually food that he gave to me, but once he sent me this beautiful bouquet of cherry blossoms. They made my office smell so nice. At first, I thought they were from Jungkookie, but they were actually from hyung. He always sent food and stuff, so I never would have thought he would be the one to give me flowers."

"Okay, great," Jimin says, "I have all the information I need."

"Really?" Namjoon questions.

"Really?" Taehyung echoes with wide eyes, "That means you know who I should choose..." Jimin nods with a confident smile on his face, proud of himself for figuring out this love triangle. "How?" Namjoon asks, "All Taehyung did was tell you stories about different experiences he went through."

"The answer was in those stories," Jimin says.

Namjoon sighs, "And people say I'm hard to understand."

"I don't get it either..." Taehyung says.

"It was the way you spoke about both of them," Jimin says, "And the way you told each of the stories and answered my questions. They were different."

"Were they?" Taehyung questions.

"They were," Jimin says, "When you spoke about them, there was affection in your voice for both. It's clear that you have a crush on both of them, but there's one that you like more. And that is what tips the scale in his direction."

"Who?" Taehyung asks.

"Jungkook," Jimin states.

"Jungkook?" Taehyung repeats.

Jimin nods, "It's him. It's him by a long shot, Taehyungie."

"Are you sure?" Taehyung asks.

"I am," Jimin states, "Did you notice that you always answered my questions about Jungkook first?"

"I did?" Taehyung murmurs, not having realized.

"Every single time, you started with him," Jimin says, "But, that isn't the only reason I know that he's the one. When you answered my question about which date was more fun, you said your date with Jungkook was fun cause you got to spend time with him. You never said that about Seokjin." Taehyung's eyes become big circles as he takes in his friends words, not having noticed the weight his answers to those questions carried. "Also, when you told me about the stuff that they gave you as gifts, you had assumed that the flowers were from Jungkook," Jimin says, "In the end, that's what makes Jungkook the one you should date. Whenever a gift is sent your way or you have free time to spare, the first person you think of is Jungkook. It's him, Taehyung-ah. He's the one."

"He is..." Taehyung whispers while slowly nodding his head. He trusts Jimin, but that's not the only reason he is sure that Jungkook is it for him. He can feel it. He can feel it in his gut. He can feel it in his heart. It just seems right. Jungkook and him. It's always seemed right. From that shining, memorable night that they had met. To the way his heart skipped a beat when they spent hours on the phone. To the sweet song Jungkook sang in a world with just the two of them. To the special random gifts and that fun-filled first date. Jungkook is the one. There is no doubt about it.

Vkook is the winner! Did you guys guess that it was going to be Jungkook that would win? If you did, let me know in the comments. As you can see, I threw in some Minjoon in there, cause you know me. They're my staple ship! I just can't not write them in. Lol. I've recently been writing one-shots that can be developed into full stories or multi-one-shot story things. I don't have plans to do that for this story, but if you want, I will consider it. Let me know your opinions on more from this world in the comments as well. I hope that you enjoyed reading this one-shot cause I had a lot of fun writing it. If you liked this story and want to see more from me, please share it with your friends, vote, follow me, add this story to your library, and check out my other Kpop one-shots.
