Third Wheel
Hello! I am back with another entirely Minjoon one-shot. This one is based off of my own emotions after watching that MiniMoni vlive. I never planned on making this an actual one-shot, but I did because someone recommended that I do it. So, here it is! I hope that you enjoy it. I'll try my hardest to write more one-shots that aren't kpop themed ships. Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy this one-shot whether you like kpop or not. Let's get into it!
"Oh my god! I can't believe it!!!" Taehyung shrieks, "How did you get tickets?! The show sold out ages ago..."
"I have my ways," Jimin says, "I got four tickets. Two for me and Joon. And two for you and whoever else you want to bring." Taehyung shrieks again and launches himself at Jimin. The two lock into a tight embrace with wide smiles on their faces. "I can't believe it! I'm going to see my favorite musical on Broadway!" Taehyung exclaims, "Who should I ask to come with me?
"Whoever you want," Jimin says, "The shows this weekend though. I'm not sure how many people are going to be free. I'm sorry for not telling you earlier...it wasn't exactly guaranteed I was going to get the tickets..." Taehyung and Jimin break from their hug. "Don't be sorry," Taehyung states, "The important thing here is that you got the tickets and you're giving one of them to me!"
"Of course," Jimin replies, "You're my best friend. If anyone is going to see the show with me, it has to be you!"
"Is Joon excited?" Taehyung questions, "He loves the show just as much as I do!"
"He is over the moon!" Jimin says with a grin, "He said it's like a dream come to life!" Taehyung jumps up and down in excitement, "I'm going to call some friends and see who wants to come with."
"Sound good," Jimin says, "I'm going to go plan places to eat! This is going to be an absolutely amazing day!"
"I'm so excited! I don't think I'm going to sleep!" Taehyung exclaims, "I just can't wait!!!"
——————
Taehyung groans and plops face first into the couch. He has been calling and texting people all afternoon. Not a single person is free this weekend. No one can come with him to see the show. Yoongi has plans to sleep all day. Hoseok has a dance competition. Seokjin has an audition for a new show. And Jungkook is going home to visit his parents. Taehyung is stuck with Jimin and Namjoon for an entire day. It doesn't sound terrible, but here's the thing. Jimin and Namjoon have been dating since forever. They still are deeply and completely in love with one another. They do couple things all the time, from cuddles to feeding each other food. Taehyung loves his best friend and his older brother, but he doesn't want to spend the entire day being the third wheel. But, he knows how devastated he is going to be if he turns down the ticket to his favorite musical. Taehyung groans again, his choices are miss a chance he may never get again and bum around all day alone or spend the day with lovebirds and see the show of his dreams. "Ahhhhhhhh," Taehyung screams, slamming his face into a pillow, "What do I do?" Suddenly, his phone begins to ring. Taehyung groans again and shifts a little to grab his phone. He doesn't check to see who's calling him and hits the answer button. "Hello..." He says in a depressed tone.
"Tae! I got it all planned out. We'll take the bus out to the city for a little brunch. I got us reservations for this cute little tea-shop. Then, we can go shopping and look around Times Square until it's time for the show. We'll head over at around three, so we can take pictures and buy some souvenirs before the lines get too long. When the show's over, we'll hop on a bus again for dinner. I called this nice Italian restaurant and got us a table for four," Jimin says enthusiastically. Taehyung groans again, hearing Jimin's well thought out plan for this weekend. "Um...is everything okay?" Jimin says, "You were so excited a little while ago. Why do you sound so down in the dumps?"
"I don't think I can go, Jiminie," Taehyung says.
"What?" Jimin asks, "Why?"
"No one else is free this weekend," Taehyung explains, "There's an extra ticket."
"Oh, don't worry about that. I can just sell it or give it back to the person who gave it to me," Jimin says, "Just because you can't find someone to go with doesn't mean you can't go."
"I still can't go, Jimin," Taehyung says, "If I end up going with you and Namjoon, I'm going to end up as the third wheel."
"What?" Jimin says, "No, you won't. If anything, I'm going to end up the third wheel. Namjoon and you are in love with this musical."
"No, I am going to be the third wheel," Taehyung says, "You two are soooo into each other, you put the other person with you in the position of the third wheel instantly."
"That's not true!" Jimin exclaims, "We always try to include our friends."
"You wouldn't notice because you're too focused on Namjoon!" Taehyung exclaims, "It's fine. You two are dating and it's sort of sweet, but I'm not going to spend the entire day being a third wheel."
"But, Tae, you're going to miss the musical," Jimin says, "It's your dream. It's on your bucket list. It's on every list."
"I know!" Taehyung says, "It's just...I don't know how much I'll enjoy myself if I'm third wheeling a date."
"It isn't a date..." Jimin sighs, "I want you to go, Tae."
"I want to go too, Jimin," Taehyung says, "I just don't know if I should."
"Of course, you should. Don't let Namjoon and I stop you from seeing something that you really want to see," Jimin says, "How about this? Namjoon and I won't act like a couple. We won't make you feel left out. Promise."
"I don't know, Jimin..." Taehyung says, warily.
"C'mon, Tae, I promise. It won't be as bad as you think. I'll talk to your brother. We'll try our absolute hardest not to make you feel like a third wheel," Jimin says, "And if we do end up acting to coupley, than you can yell at us at the end of the night. But, it will be worth it in the end. You'll get to see the show." Taehung sits up from his position on the couch, considering Jimin's offer. After a while, Taehyung bites. "Fine," Taehyung says, "You two better try your hardest to not make me feel left out. And I will yell my head off if I do end up becoming a third wheel. I better not regret this..."
"That's fine. You can yell at us during dinner in front of everyone. But, you won't be doing that because you won't be the third wheel." Jimin states, "I'll see you this weekend." Taehyung sighs and hangs up the phone. He tosses his phone onto the side table and lays back down on couch. "I'm going to regret this," He mumbles, staring at the ceiling
———weekend of the show————
Taehyung sits at the front of his apartment steps with his head in his hands. He is waiting for his brother to pick him up, so they can catch the bus. He glances at the watch that sits on his wrist and sighs, he's been waiting for a while now. He can only wonder what his brother and best friend got distracted doing. "It's fine..." Taehyung murmurs, "Better they get it out of their system now..." Suddenly, a car horn goes off and Taehyung looks up. Jimin rolls down the car window and pokes his head through. "C'mon! We're going to miss the bus!" Jimin shouts. Taehyung shoots to his feet and makes his way to the car. He opens the door and slides into the back seat. "Hey, Tae," Namjoon says, glancing at his younger brother through the rear view mirror.
"Hi, hyung," Taehyung states with a grin, "You better start driving, unless you want to miss the bus and throw off the entire schedule."
"Right away, sir," Namjoon says before hitting the gas pedal and driving the car towards the park and ride. As they drive, Jimin talks mindlessly to both his best friend and boyfriend. The three all laugh and joke around. The couple are clearly trying their hardest to include Taehyung. Said man is surprised that his brother and friend haven't tried to hold hands or any of that stuff. Maybe, this day won't be as bad as he first assumed. As the car makes a right into the parking lot, Namjoon mutters something under his breath. Jimin giggles and blushes a little before slapping Namjoon. Taehyung watches the scene with annoyed eyes, maybe he spoke too soon.
The three hop out of the car as soon as they are parked and make a mad dash towards the bus. They clamber onto the vehicle just in time and search desperately for seats. Namjoon spots two spots instantly. He makes his way down the aisle and plops down in the window seat. "Mini!" Namjoon calls, gesturing to the seat beside him. Jimin smiles and nods his head, making his way over to Namjoon. He sits beside him and looks to Taehyung, who is still trying to find a place to sit. Jimin frowns and looks at the seats across from him. There's space beside an older lady. "Taehyung!" Jimin says, "There's an empty seat over here." Taehyung makes his way over and kindly asks the older lady if he could sit down. The woman nods her head and stands up. Taehyung tries to hide his disappointment in having to sit in the window seat. It prevents him from talking to Jimin and Namjoon. He can't complain though. He got a seat and wouldn't have to wait for another bus. He sighs and gives the lady a thankful look before sitting down. As the bus pulls out of the park and ride, Taehyung takes a peek at the other seats. Jimin and Namjoon are currently holding hands and sharing earbuds to watch Netflix. Taehyung sighs, they weren't doing it on purpose. It's not like he could be included if he tried. He shifts in his seat and tries his hardest to get comfortable. He finally gets in a good position and closes his eyes.
------------------
Taehyung is awoken by tapping on his shoulder. He stirs and his eyes open slowly. He is met with the older lady sitting beside him. He looks at her with a confused expression. "I think this is your stop," The lady says, "You're friends just got off." Taehyung's eyes widen in surprise and he jumps from his seat. "Thank you so much!" He exclaims as he wiggles his way out of the seat and down the bus aisle. He hurries down the stairs and off the bus. He lets out a breath as his feet touch the city sidewalk. He looks around for Namjoon and Jimin, only to find them walking across the street. He huffs and grumbles under his breath as he starts to run. It takes him a while, but he catches up to the two. "Yah!" He shouts as he steps beside them, "What the hell? Did you really leave me on the bus?!"
"Huh, no," Jimin says, "You we're right behind us."
"No, Jimin, I was not right behind you. I was sleeping. I would still be sleeping if that lady I sat next to didn't wake me up!" Taehyung yells, "What happened to not leaving me out?" Jimin gives him a sheepish look and Namjoon looks at him with an apologetic face. "We're so sorry, Taehyung. We didn't mean to, really. It was an honest accident. It had nothing to do with us leaving you out," Namjoon says. Taehyung huffs again and crosses his arms. Jimin frowns, "Tae...I'm sooooo sorry. Please forgive me. I was just thinking about the time and our reservation at the tea place. I'm sorry. It won't happen again. I promise." Taehyung gives Jimin the stink eye. Jimin pouts and flashes him a puppy dog look. Taehyung scoffs, "That look doesn't work on me, Jimin, but I forgive you." A smile blooms onto Jimin's face and he hugs his best friend. Taehyung chuckles and hugs him back. Namjoon scratches the back of his head, "I feel like I'm the third wheel." The two friends laugh and separate. "Let's get going," Jimin says, "We're really going to miss our reservation..." The others nod and start walking down the street. Jimin and Namjoon's hands find one another again. Taehyung sighs, hoping that it doesn't get much further than that. His hopes don't seem to be helping. Jimin leans in Namjoon's touch and seems to grip his arm. Namjoon presses a kiss to the top of Jimin's head and he blushes. Taehyung rolls his eyes and elbows his friend's side. "Hey, none of that," Taehyung mutters. The couple chuckles a little, but doesn't move apart from one another. Namjoon lifts Jimin's hand up and repositions his grip on it. Their fingers interlock and Namjoon presses a kiss to the top of his hand. Jimin giggles and twists his hand, so that he can press a kiss to Namjoon's hand. "You're adorable," Namjoon says, "And sort of cheesy..."
"Says the one who kissed my hand first," Jimin states in a teasing tone.
Namjoon shrugs, "I can't help it. Your hands are so cute!" Taehyung rolls his eyes again and starts to walk a bit faster.
------------------
Eventually, the group stop in front of a small shop. "Alice's Tea Cup?" Taehyung mutters, "Is it Alice in Wonderland themed?" Jimin nods, bouncing on the balls of his feet. "Cute," Namjoon murmurs, opening the door. The other two walk in and are hit with the smell of herbs. Taehyung gasps as he sees the colors and wondrous decorations of the cafe. Jimin eyes the scones near the counter with wide eyes. "We can order some to go, if you want," Namjoon says, moving to stand beside his boyfriend.
"Can we really?" Jimin asks with a large smile.
Namjoon nods his head, "Sure, but, let's eat brunch first, yeah..." Jimin nods his head and goes to speak with the waitress. The three are sitting in seats within a few seconds. Jimin and Namjoon sit side by side on the cushions. Taehyung sits on the outside on a plushy wooden seat. They all look over the menu with happy expressions. There are a bunch of cute designs littered all over the menu that match the theme of the cafe. Jimin laughs as he points out an image of Alice falling, "Look, hyungie...it's you..."
"I'm not that clumsy, Jiminie," Namjoon sighs. Jimin giggles and presses a kiss to Namjoon's cheek. The older softens at the action and looks at Jimin fondly. "Maybe, not. But, you are rather curious..." Jimin says.
"That's because the White Rabbit is very attention seeking and one cannot help but follow it," Namjoon says, his eyes not leaving Jimin's as he says this. Jimin flushes and leans closer to Namjoon. Jimin whispers something into Namjoon's ear. Namjoon smiles and looks at Jimin as if he is the only thing in the world that matters. Taehyung huffs and shoves his face deeper into the menu. What happened to not making him feel like the third wheel?
As the food is placed in front of them, they all start shoveling the food into their mouths. They remain fairly silent as they eat. Taehyung is so focused on his meal he doesn't notice the actions being done by the resident couple. Namjoon and Jimin have been feeding each other their own dishes for a couple minutes now. Jimin hums a little as Namjoon places a piece of egg into his mouth. Namjoon does the same as Jimin pops a piece of scone into his mouth. Taehyung starts to feel sick as he notices the two interlocking arms and sipping from each other's tea cups. He groans and proceeds to kick both his friend and brother in the legs. He waits for them to respond to his actions, but they seem to believe the action didn't come from the one sitting across from them. Taehyung's eye twitches as Namjoon and Jimin start playing footsies.
--------------------
The three walk out of the cafe an hour later. Jimin has a bag of scones slung over his right arm. His left arm is linked with Namjoon's. Taehyung sighs as he keeps a couple steps behind the group. He follows them to the subway and keeps a fair distance from them when they board. He stares daggers at them as they continue to speak as if they didn't even notice he isn't with them. Honestly, they probably didn't even notice. Taehyung sighs and moves to take a seat beside his friend. Jimin flashes him a smile, "Why were you sitting over there by yourself?"
"You two looked like you wanted privacy," Taehyung shrugs.
"C'mon. We're just three friends going to see a show," Namjoon states, "Don't force yourself into the position of a third wheel, Tae." Taehyung nods his head. Sure, he's the reason for feeling like a third wheel. It has nothing to do with the two of them. The subway lurches to a stop and Jimin's eyes widen as he starts to slide a little. Namjoon wraps his arms around the younger and holds him close. "Careful..." Namjoon says to Jimin in a wary tone. The younger nods his head and leans his head on Namjoon's shoulder. "Thanks for catching me," Jimin says.
"Always," Namjoon replies. Taehyung grumbles under his breath and considers banging his head against one of the poles. (He opts against it because of the amount of germs on the subway.)
------------------------
The group make their way to Times Square and they are all in awe. There's a bunch of people from workers to people dressed up as your favorite superheroes. "Where should we go?" Namjoon asks, looking at his phone, "We got a couple hours to spare before the show."
"Oooooo! Line Friends store!!!" Jimin and Taehyung exclaim at the same time. The two friends burst out laughing. Namjoon shakes his head, "Alright, let's go look at the stuffed animals."
Taehyung punches his brother lightly, "Stop trying to act all adultey...we both know you are in love with Ryan." Namjoon pouts and crosses his arms with a huff. Jimin laughs at his expression and pokes his boyfriend's face. "Hey, no pouting. It's okay to like Ryan. I think it's cute..."
"You're cute," Namjoon says back.
Jimin laughs, "We're both cute!" Taehyung rolls his eyes for the millionth time today. Just as he thought they were done with the flirting, they start up again without a blink of an eye. The group make their way around Time Square, taking photos and visiting a bunch of different stores. Taehyung tries his best to worm his way into certain moments, but the couple always seems to find a way to single him out. It's exhausting that he has to try this hard when the two both promised to not make him the third wheel. "Look at the time! We need to go!" Jimin exclaims, "It's going to get really crowded if we don't get there now." The two brothers nod their heads and the three burst out of the store they're in. They take off running, trying to get there and beat the lines. When they arrive at the theater, they are out of breath. It is worth it though because the line is really short. Jimin takes his phone out and snaps a couple pictures. He gestures for the others to stand beside him and he takes a couple selfies of the group. "TaeTae? Do you mind taking a couple for Joon and me?" Jimin asks. Taehyung holds his hand out and Jimin places his phone into his hands. Jimin rushes over to Namjoon. Jimin throws his arms around Namjoon's waist and Namjoon places his arm behind Jimin's back. Taehyung snaps a picture and sighs as the couple repositions for another photo. They do this for a couple of minutes before Taehyung decides to point out that they should get inside. The three move towards the line and hand in their tickets. The ticket people guide them in the direction of their seats. They make their way towards the theater. Their eyes wander around the huge area. They decorated the entire space to fit the theme of the musical. Taehyung screams internally as he sees video footage of the original cast of the musical. His eyes widen as he spots a tee-shirt that he would die to own. "Guys, I'm going to go buy some merch," Taehyung states, "Do you want anything?" Jimin is tugging on Namjoon's arm, trying to bring him in the direction of something. Namjoon scans the merchandise area before glancing at Taehyung, "Could you get me that black shirt?" Taehyung nods his head and watches as his best friend drags his brother away. Taehyung makes his way towards the line. Thankfully, it isn't extremely long. Taehyung purchases the items fairly quickly and goes to search for his brother and friend. He finds them getting their picture taken. He watches with amusement as they do a billion different shots. The photographer seems to be exhausted with the couple who continues to want to take more and more photos. Eventually, the couple moves away as a crowd of people line up to take a picture as well. They rush over to see their photos, moving right past Taehyung. "I'm invisible now...that's nice," Taehyung mutters before following the couple. Jimin is laughing and pointing at one of the pictures while Namjoon pouts. "It's not funny, Mini," Namjoon states.
Jimin holds his stomach as he starts to get red in the face, "It's hilarious, Joonie..." Taehyung glances at the photo and snickers as he sees his brother's awkward face. He takes out his phone and quickly snaps a picture, he could always use that as blackmail. Namjoon looks at Jimin, "You shouldn't be making fun of me...I thought you loved me."
"Of course, I love you," Jimin says, "You know I'm just joking...right..."
"Yeah..." Namjoon mutters.
Jimin sighs, "Would you like me to prove to you how much I love you?"
"There's no harm in it..." Namjoon says. Jimin shakes his head, but gently grasps Namjoon's face. He brings his face close to his and presses their lips together. Taehyung looks away, feeling sick as his brother and best friend swap spit in front of him. The couple kiss for a couple of minutes before slowly pulling away. "I love you," Jimin says in a whispery tone.
"I love you too," Namjoon replies. The two stare into one another's eyes and Jimin's finger runs along the edge of Namjoon's cheek. Taehyung turns to look at the couple and starts to face palm. He does it continuously and tries to make the scene in front of him fade from his memories. He doesn't stop until someone taps on his shoulders. He is met with the slightly pink face of Park Jimin. "What are you doing, Tae? Why are you hitting yourself?" Jimin asks.
Taehyung gives him a deadpan look, "What do you think?"
"I don't know," Jimin says, "You shouldn't do it though. You're going to make your face all red..." Taehyung groans and face palms again. Namjoon frowns at his brother's actions and moves to stand behind Jimin. He places his head on his boyfriend's shoulder before asking, "What's wrong with him?" Jimin shrugs and places his hand on Namjoon's head, combing through his hair. Taehyung face palms once more at the actions of the two. "Okay...well...you should stop whatever you're doing," Jimin says, "The shows going to start soon." Taehyung lowers his hand with a sigh before nodding his head. The three walk into the theater and make their way towards their seats. Jimin takes a couple more photos and the lights dim after a couple of minutes. The musical begins with one of Taehyung's favorite numbers. His eyes widen and he feels his heart race as he sees the actors sing. He is stunned by the beautiful outfits and scenery. The choreography has him at the edge of his seat. The musical is everything he dreamed of and more. The only issue is the couple sitting to his left. They have been whispering to each other as the show goes on. Taehyung grits his teeth and considers slapping his friend to make him shut up. He has no idea what the hell they could be whispering about. Jimin's airy giggles reach his ears every so often and he can make out a faint blush on Namjoon's cheeks even in the dark. Taehyung shakes his head and tries to put his complete focus on the show.
As intermission is reached, Namjoon and Jimin are still talking. This time they're comparing their relationship to that of the characters in the musical. Like they were paying much attention to compare anything. Taehyung leans forward in his seat, "Guys...do you mind not talking during the show? It was distracting."
"Oh, I'm so sorry," Jimin says, "I didn't even notice we were that loud."
"Yeah," Namjoon agrees, "I'm sorry, Tae. We won't talk when the second act begins." Taehyung nods, satisfied with the answers he receives.
He isn't so happy when the second act does begin though. The couple don't talk, just like they promised. But, they do something worse and even more barf worthy. They kiss one another at random times for no reason at all. It may be in the middle of a song or during a very serious scene. There were kisses on the cheek, on the lips, on the hands. Kisses everywhere and anytime. Taehyung shields his face from the happenings on the left and tries his hardest to focus on the show. He scrunches up his nose as he hears his brother place a kiss on Jimin's lips. Gross.
The show ends after a while and the three walk out of the theater. Taehyung is thrilled at the fact that he saw the show, but at the same time extremely annoyed at being made a third wheel. It would be time for dinner soon and the couple is going to get it. The group makes their way to the bus stop and hops on. The couple continues to do their couple things and Taehyung just can't bring himself to be phased by it anymore.
----------------
When they arrive at the restaurant, they are seated fairly quickly. The couple looks at the menu again and Taehyung prepares his long speech. The waitress takes their orders and Taehyung takes a big breath. "Yah!" He exclaims, "You both promised not to make me your third wheel! But, do you know what I've been all day? A freaking third wheel! Don't even bother trying to say that I wasn't. Everything that you did all day left me out and made me feel uncomfortable! You left me on the bus, you sipped each other's tea, you sucked each other's faces off during the show! Do you know how many times you just walked off or didn't seem to notice I was there? You two are cute and all, so I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt. I had hope that you would stop forcing me into the position of a third wheel, but hope never did me any good all day!"
"Taehyung...lower your voice," Namjoon chastises, "We're at a restaurant."
"Oh, no. No! No! No!" Taehyung says, "Part of the deal I made with Jimin is that if you two make me the third wheel, I get to yell at you. So, that's what I'm doing. I'm yelling!"
Done! I hope that you enjoyed this one-shot. It's different and honestly made me amused a couple of times. This is partially based off of my experience going to see a musical, not including the whole third-wheeling part, thank god. Once more, please comment, vote, follow me, and add this story to your library. I will see you all next time! Bye!
