Hello everyone! This is a Snowbarry one-shot that I've been wanting to write for a while. I hope that you all enjoy it.
Caitlin's POV
I sigh as I walk away from the park and towards the coffee shop. I had just broke up with my boyfriend of three years. I loved Ronnie. I really did. That's not why I broke up with him. No, he didn't cheat on me either. I broke up with him because I couldn't see myself spending the rest of my life with him. He would always talk about kids and marriage and growing old together. I tried to imagine it. I really did, but I just couldn't. Of course, I could see all of those things happening. I dreamed of those things. But, not with Ronnie. So, here I am walking away from a relationship that has been a major part of my life. I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt. I shake my head as I near Jitters. Now that I didn't have a boyfriend I could focus on myself more. Maybe pick up a good book. Make some new friends. Go to a party.....eh, who am I kidding. I'm probably going to be more focused on work than anything else. Which isn't a bad thing. I have an important job at Star Labs. I'm working with Dr. Harrison Wells to build a particle accelerator. A bell jingles as I enter the coffee shop. "Hello, welcome to Jitters. What can I get you?" a lady asks. As I walk closer to her I am able to make out the name on her name tag, Iris. "Hi. Can I have a small latte, please?" I ask.
"Coming right up," Iris says turning around and grabbing a cup, "Oh, that'll be $3.75" I nod my head and hand her the cash. She takes it and gives me a smile, "This will only take a minute." I nod my head and turn around. The entire place was packed. There didn't seem to be any empty seats. "Miss, your latte," Iris says.
"Thank you," I say taking the cup from her hand.
Iris nods her head, "Oh, if you're looking for a place to sit, there's an empty seat next to that guy over there." I look to where she is pointing and nod my head. I smile at Iris before walking over to the table where the guy is sitting. The guy is looking down at his coffee cup. He doesn't seem to notice that I've approached him. He honestly seems to be in his own little world. I cough, "Excuse me. Do you mind if I sit here?" The guy looks up at me and hesitates for a minute before nodding. "Thank you," I say pulling out the chair and sitting down, "I'm Caitlin, by the way. Caitlin Snow."
"It's nice to meet you Miss Snow. I'm Barry. Allen," Barry says with a smile. We fall into an easy conversation. We had a lot more in common than I had first thought. I began to tell him about Ronnie and how that relationship had turned out. I know that I had only just met him, but he seems like someone I can trust. "I feel you. I'm not doing that well in the relationship field either. You see that barista over there. Yeah, well I've known her since we were little. We pretty much grew up together. I've had a crush on her for the longest time. I decided to tell her about it today. And, lucky me, got turned down. She already has a boyfriend and sees me as her brother," Barry says with a sigh. I nod my head listening to all he has to say. He's talking about Iris, I'm pretty sure. "Well, maybe it's for the best. Maybe this is a sign, that there is someone better out there for you to love. You shouldn't be all down in the dumps just because of this one girl. You're handsome and good looking. Not to mention really smart and funny. I'm sure there are a bunch of girls willing to go out with you," I say earnestly.
Barry smirks, "Even you?"
I flush, "Maybe. Is that your way of asking me out on a date?"
"Maybe," Barry replies with a grin.
Year Later
A year ago I walked into Jitters and met the man that I would love for the rest of my life. It took us a while to get it all figured out, but we worked it out. Now I was currently taking a stroll with my boyfriend around the park. "Are you excited for tomorrow?" Barry asks. I nod my head. After a year of hard work, the particle accelerator is complete and ready to be shown to the public. We would be showing it to the rest of the world tomorrow. Hopefully, it would all go smoothly. "I'm a bit nervous. I hope nothing goes wrong," I say gently squeezing Barry's hand.
"Don't be nervous. It'll go fine. You all worked so hard. It's going to pay off. Plus, I'll be there to support you," Barry says squeezing my hand back.
"Thank you, Barry. For everything," I say looking at him.
He looks back at me and smiles, "I love you,"
"I love you too," I say. He gently places a kiss upon my lips. I kiss him back. It's a sweet kiss. One that truly shows how much we love one another. We continue to walk until we near the bridge. When we get there we stop and enjoy the view. Barry is the one to break the silence, "Cait, I've been meaning to ask you something for a long time now."
"What is it?" I ask. Barry gets down on one knee and takes something out of his pocket. I gape and blink a couple of times. This can't be happening. "Caitlin. When we first met I didn't think that I could ever love someone as much as I did Iris. Then, you came into my life and changed that. I love everything about you. Every time I look at you I fall in love all over again. Sometimes I have to pinch myself because it's so unbelievable that I have someone as amazing as you as my girlfriend. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to wake up with you beside me. I want to support you in everything you do. I want to be there for you when you need someone to lean on. I want to tell the entire world that you're the one I love. Caitlin Snow, will you marry me?" Barry exclaims. I smile and try to hold back tears. I nod my head urgently and jump into his arms. He wraps his arms around me and squeezes me tightly. I feel him slip a ring onto my finger and I slowly pull away. I look at the beautiful ring that now sits on my finger and smile. I look at Barry before pressing my lips to his. This kiss is a bit more passionate, but filled to the brink with love. Barry kisses back with the same amount of love in his heart. I slowly pull away, "I have to tell my parents....and Cisco.....and Iris...and everyone."
Barry chuckles and nods his head, "C'mon. I have a feeling they are all at Jitters..." I look at Barry with a surprised look. He smirks before linking his hand with mine and pulling me towards the coffee shop. When we enter all of our friends and family are there. They all voice their congratulations. I smile as my friends and family give me hugs. I show them the ring and we talk about when the wedding may be. As time passes, I move to the corner of the room to calm down. I check the time and know that in about four hours the particle accelerator would turn on. I had to get ready to go to Star Labs. Suddenly, I feel arms wrap around my waist. I smile as I feel Barry leaning his head against mine. "Hey, how are you doing?" Barry asks.
I smile, "Good. We should get going though. The particle accelerator launch is in a few hours."
"Can't we just stay here?" Barry asks.
I shake my head, "Nope. I have to go to work. Star Labs needs all hands on deck."
"Fine," Barry says releasing me from his grasp, "Only because I've been waiting to see the launch for a long time."
"I feel like you're more in love with the particle accelerator than me," I say with a fake pout.
Barry smiles, "There is a possibility I do." I shake my head and walk towards the door. Other Star Lab employees that came to this little celebration are also exiting the coffee shop. "I'll see you later," Barry yells out as I walk out of Jitters.
Few Hours Later
I stand on the stage waiting for Dr. Wells to make his speech. I can see Barry and Iris standing in the crowd. I smile when Barry waves at me. I discretely wave back. Iris smiles at the exchange between the two of us. Iris has always been the most enthusiastic about our relationship. I guess you could say that she's the reason Barry and I even met. I'm interrupted from my thoughts by clapping and cheering. Dr. Wells is approaching the mic, ready to give his speech. I clap, as my boss stands in front of the mic. "Thank you, my name is Harrison Wells. Tonight, the future begins. The work my team and I do here will change the understanding of physics. Will bring about advancements in power and technology. Trust me that future will be here faster than you think," Dr. Wells explains. I along with everyone else in the room begin to clap. I look for Barry within the crowd. When I find him I can't help, but frown. He's on the phone and seems to be making his way through the crowd. Something must've happened at the CCPD. I guess I would just talk to him later. We all make our way back into the cortex. Everyone is double-checking the stats and the weather reports to make sure everything goes smoothly. I hear Cisco tell Dr. Wells that there is a storm coming. Dr. Wells just replies that we would still be launching the accelerator. Ronnie is sitting in a chair glancing at the computer screen. Yup, my ex-boyfriend works at Star Labs. It is a tad bit awkward, but we've managed to ignore it and focus on our job. "Dr. Wells, the accelerator is primed and ready for particle injection," Cisco says with a smile. We all gather around as Wells turns on the accelerator. We all begin clap. Dr. Wells goes and grabs a bottle of alcohol. He pops it open and liquid floats out of it. It's suspended in the air. We all stare at it. Suddenly, the liquid drops onto the floor and the alarms go off. Everyone jumps into action. After that everything seems to be a blur. Cisco and Ronnie rush to power off the accelerator manually. "Be careful!" I yell out to the two. The shaking increases. All of our eyes are locked onto computer screens, trying to see if we can fix anything. Suddenly, the accelerator explodes and a blast is sent out. I stagger a bit, but am able to remain standing. I look to my left and see Dr. Wells on the floor. Other employees have already rushed over to help him. I run to where Cisco and Ronnie went. I frown when I see Cisco on the floor in shock. He shakes his head. Ronnie didn't make it. I help Cisco up and we both rush to the cortex. Everyone is freaking out. We try to calm people down. Among all of the frantic noise, I hear a familiar ringtone go off. I grab my phone and answer the call, "Iris? Are you alright? The particle accelerator exploded. Is Barry...?" I pale as I hear her words and quickly rush out of Star Labs. "Caitlin! Where are you going?!" Cisco yells. I ignore him, more focused on what Iris just told me. I rush to my car and drive as fast as I can to the hospital. When I arrive I rush through the doors. I see Iris struggling to get into a room. I run over to her. As I get closer, I can see Barry on a stretcher. He has scars all over him and his eyes are sealed shut. "Barry...oh...Barry...." I say quietly.
A nurse pushes me back, "I'm sorry miss. You can't be here...."
"Please let me see him. I'm his fiancé, please!" I exclaim, "I can't lose him. Barry...."
Nine Months Later
"What are you doing?" I ask Cisco as we check on Barry's vitals.
"He likes this song" Cisco replies. I shake my head. I look at my comatose fiancé with a frown. Would he ever wake up? Suddenly, a gasp could be heard. I look over and there is Barry his eyes wide open. Cisco and I look at one another before rushing over. I flash a light into his eyes. He flinches away from the light and starts asking questions, "Where am I? What happened?"
Cisco places a hand on his shoulder, "Calm down, dude. Relax. You're at Star Labs."
"Star Labs? Who are you?" Barry asks.
Cisco frowns, "Wait, you don't recognize us? You don't know who I am. Who she is?" I stiffen, waiting to hear his answer. Barry shakes his head, "Should I?" With those words my heart broke. It hurt to see the man I love in a coma for nine months. It hurts even more when said man wakes up, but doesn't remember you.
