Fated but Not yet There
I am back with day 3 of Minjoon one-shot week. This one-shot will have one time skip and I have this feeling it will be rather emotional. Also, please excuse my incorrect use of wording during the first part of the one-shot. I don't really know what would be the proper honorifics during that time frame and I did best I could. Another note, it is graphic in some ways since I mention blood, so please be aware of this. So, with that in mind, let's get into it.
57 BCE
Namjoon sits on the floor scanning over a scroll that tells of a lost tale. He is so focused on the paper within his hand that he doesn't notice the arrival of one Park Jimin. Jimin sits down next to Namjoon and peers over his shoulder. He pouts, waiting for Namjoon to notice him. When he doesn't, he decides to comment on the scroll, "Soulmates? What is it that you are reading Namjoon-ssi?" Namjoon jumps and glances over at Jimin. He breathes a sigh of relief and places the scroll on a small desk in front of him. "When did you get here?" Namjoon asks.
Jimin smiles, "Not too long ago. I missed you, Namjoon-ssi..." He shifts closer to the man and wraps his arms around him. Namjoon leans into his touch and places his head into the crook of Jimin's neck. "I have missed you as well," Namjoon murmurs, "Did anyone follow you here?"
Jimin shakes his head, "I am quite stealthy, Namjoon-ssi." Namjoon smiles and pulls away from Jimin's grasp. He takes Jimin's hand into his own and plays with his fingers ever so delicately. "I know you are..." Namjoon says with a fond look on his face. Jimin flushes and looks back at Namjoon with a similar expression. "You never answered my question, Namjoon-ssi. What are you reading?"
"Oh, nothing too interesting. Just an old legend that people have begun discussing recently," Namjoon says.
Jimin nods, "Tell me about it. I like it when you tell me stories."
"Of course. Your request is my command, your highness," Namjoon states, "It's about soulmates. It is said that two souls are made for each other. So much so, that they will find one another even when the odds may seem against them. Those that find their soulmate will either stay with them or risk losing the other. That choice is not up to the soulmates, but rather fate. Fate is cruel. It has set certain people up with one another, yet dislikes it when the match is too perfect. Fate doesn't like seeing things easy and simple. Life is a game for fate to play with. And fate will continue to toy with the lives of soulmates. Nonetheless, the strength and love of soulmates is so strong that it gets another chance. If the soulmates are unable to find one another in one lifetime, they are given the chance to do so in another. They are reborn and given another opportunity at their love. It is said that this process may continue forever, as fate finds some soulmates so made for each other that it must ruin their chances of a happy ending."
"I do not know what to say," Jimin says, "Is it true?"
Namjoon shrugs, "Possibly. It depends on whether or not you believe in fate."
"I had always believed that fate had our best interests at heart," Jimin states, "Now, I am not so sure if that is true."
"There is no way of knowing. Fate. Soulmates. It seems like something out of a storybook, no?" Namjoon says, glancing at Jimin.
Jimin nods his head and looks back at him, "Do you believe in the legend, Namjoon-ssi? Soulmates, is it a possibility?"
"I think there is some truth to it all. Some of us are made to find one another," Namjoon states, "I would like to think that I have already met my soulmate." Namjoon looks right into Jimin's eyes as he says these last words. Jimin flushes and covers his face with his hands. Namjoon reaches up and pulls the shield away from Jimin's face. Their faces are centimeters away from one another. Namjoon and Jimin both smile as they look at one another lovingly. They close the distance between them, slowly but surely. Suddenly, there is a loud crash and the door to Namjoon's humble home is thrown open. Multiple men stream into the door all holding weapons and dressed in guard uniforms. They point their swords and arrows at Namjoon. The two freeze and stare at the intruders. Jimin's eyes widen as he recognizes who they are. "Namjoon..." He whispers, "You need to run..." Namjoon doesn't get the chance to move when one of the guards releases an arrow. Jimin watches with wide eyes as the arrow arcs through the air and lodges itself into Namjoon's chest. Jimin lets out a scream and the guards rush to surround him. "You are safe now, your highness!" One of the guards pronounces loudly. Namjoon slumps onto the floor and Jimin watches with wide eyes. He lets out soundless sobs as he sees the life drain from his lover's eyes. "No...no...Namjoon...." Jimin mutters, "This can't be happening. You can't be....Namjoon wake up...please..." The guards start to drag Namjoon as well as Jimin out of the home. Jimin struggles against their grip, trying to return to Namjoon's side. He is unable to do so as the guards use their full force to pull him back to the litter they brought along. Tears run down his cheeks as he is forced into a seat and told that it would all be alright. It is not alright, his Namjoon is dead. Nothing could be alright. "You were my soulmate. We were supposed to find each other...why didn't we..." Jimin says in a shaky voice. He lets out a strangled sob and buries his face into his hands.

2019
Namjoon and Jimin walk down the street hand in hand. Jimin laughs at something that Namjoon had just said. Namjoon flushes red and looks a bit sheepish. "I can't believe you!" Jimin exclaims.
"I was flustered, okay. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going," Namjoon mutters.
Jimin smiles and gives Namjoon a hug, "Don't worry. I'm sure no one else noticed."
"Everyone was staring, Jiminie..." Namjoon whines.
"Well, you need to have better control over your limbs," Jimin replies, "It's okay. I still love you." Namjoon pouts and Jimin can only laugh at his expression. The two make a right and head towards a car that is parked right at the street corner. "Other than that catastrophe, I really enjoyed myself tonight," Namjoon says.
"Same," Jimin states, "I really like doing things like this..." Namjoon smiles and reaches into his pocket for his car keys. Once he has them out, he unlocks the car and the two get into the vehicle. "We should really do this more often," Jimin says, "If only you weren't so busy writing music and I wasn't so busy being a very popular dancer."
"Very popular..." Namjoon echoes with a smirk on his face, "You're starting to sound like Jin hyung."
"I'm not that cocky..." Jimin replies with a bright grin. The two laugh and Namjoon sticks the key into the ignition. "Where to now, Jiminie?" Namjoon asks.
"Let's just drive in circles...I want to spend more time with you," Jimin says, looking at his boyfriend. Namjoon nods his head and starts to pull out of their parking space. As they drive, Namjoon starts to hum a tune quietly. Jimin closes his eyes and listens to the tune. He lets his head lean against the headrest. "What song is that?" Jimin questions.
"Just a little something I've been working on," Namjoon says, "It's actually dedicated to you."
"Really? You wrote a song for me, hyung!" Jimin says with surprise. Namjoon nods and looks at Jimin fondly. "You mean a lot to me, Jimin," Namjoon says.
Jimin blushes, "You mean a lot to me too, hyung. What's the song called?"
"Serendipity," Namjoon says, "It means an occurrence of events by chance in a happy way."
"Kind of like fate?" Jimin questions. Namjoon nods and smiles at Jimin. "Yeah, you're my serendipity, Jimin. My soulmate," Namjoon says. Jimin feels his heart start to warm and he blushes. "Hyung...that's so sappy," Jimin murmurs.
"I know, but it's true. I think we're two souls made for each other," Namjoon states. Jimin laughs and glances at Namjoon. As he looks at him, an image passes through his head. It looks just like Namjoon except there is blood coming from his chest and he doesn't appear to be breathing. Jimin gasps and the image instantly disappears. Namjoon looks at Jimin with worry, "Is everything alright?" Jimin bites his lip and nods his head slowly. "I'm fine. I was just kind of shocked with what you said," Jimin says.
"You mean the world to me Jimin. Don't be so surprised. If you are, that must mean I'm not telling you enough how much I care about you," Namjoon says. Jimin shakes his head at his boyfriend's ridiculous words. Namjoon took every chance he could to praise him. He made his love for Jimin extremely clear. Jimin frowns, thinking back to the image that passed through his head just a couple of minutes ago. "Joonie..." Jimin starts, "Have you ever injured yourself?"
Namjoon glances at Jimin, "That's random, but I guess. I'm not the most graceful of people, so I have a few bruises from my clumsiness."
"But, it's never been life-threatening...has it?" Jimin asks.
Namjoon looks to Jimin with confusion, "No. Where is this all coming from? Are you okay, Jimin? Is something wrong?"
Jimin breathes a silent sigh of relief, "I'm fine. I was just thinking a bit too much..."
"Okay...." Namjoon says a bit skeptical, "I'm here for you if you need to talk. Or if you need something. I'm always here." Namjoon reaches to grab Jimin's hand and he gently squeezes it when it's in his grasp. Jimin squeezes back and Namjoon places a gentle kiss to Jimin's hand. Jimin lets out a contented sigh and leans back into the car seat comfortably. The two drive in silence, just enjoying each other's presence. They do this for a couple of minutes before Jimin sits up with surprise. The images are back. He sees himself beside Namjoon, but each image isn't a happy one. He always has tears running down his face and Namjoon appears to be on the brink of death, if not already dead. Jimin's breath catches in his throat as he sees himself being dragged away from the motionless body of Namjoon by a bunch of men in weird uniforms. Jimin shivers as he sees himself sit beside Namjoon flat lining within a white hospital room. He feels tears build up in his eyes as he sees Namjoon's body being shown to him in the morgue. He hands start to shake as he sees himself opening the door, only to find Namjoon inside with multiple stab wounds. His breathing becomes labored as he sees himself being pushed away from Namjoon as he is carted into a surgery room. He thrashes frantically and tries to free himself from his seatbelt, as he sees himself standing in front of a gravestone with the name Kim Namjoon engraved on it. Namjoon reacts instantly when he sees his boyfriend start to have a panic attack. He pulls the car to the side and parks. He grabs onto Jimin's other hand and pulls the young man close to him. "Breathe, Jiminie. Breathe for me. In and out. It's okay. I'm here. I'm here..." He murmurs into Jimin's ear, "Shhhh...it's okay. I'm here. Namjoon is here. Breathe, Chim...breathe...it's okay." Jimin does as Namjoon says and slowly begins to calm down and relax. Namjoon holds onto Jimin for a while longer before letting him go. Jimin has tear tracks down his face and Namjoon gently dabs at them with a napkin from his pocket. Jimin lets out a shaky sigh and slumps against the car seat. The two remain silent for a couple of minutes before Namjoon looks at Jimin. "Are you alright?" He asks. Jimin nods his head, not speaking. "Okay...what happened? Were you thinking about something?" Namjoon questions.
"I...no...nothing..." Jimin whispers, "I'm fine." Namjoon looks at him skeptically, but chooses not to push him about the topic any longer. "I'm just tired..." Jimin says suddenly, "I don't think I've been getting enough sleep."
Namjoon nods his head, "Do you want me to take you home? It would probably be best if I just dropped you off at your apartment, so you could get some more rest." Jimin frowns, knowing it would be for the best, but he didn't want his night with Namjoon to end just yet. "If you want, maybe I could stay over. We'll pop some popcorn and turn on a movie. We don't have to watch it, but we most definitely should cuddle. It may help you fall asleep faster. It would give you could catch up on some needed rest..." Namjoon says when he is met with silence. Jimin looks at Namjoon with wide eyes and smiles. He nods his head, "I'd like that."
"Okay," Namjoon says, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of Jimin's head, "Let's go than." He starts the car once more and pulls back onto the road. Jimin lets out a sigh and pushes his hair back with his hand. Sleep, that is all he needs. Just some rest and all those crazy images would go away. It would be like they never existed. Jimin bites his lip, it had felt so real though. It was like they were memories, but they never happened. Namjoon is still alive. He's not going to die. Right...right? They weren't premonitions, they couldn't be. Namjoon isn't in any danger, he's safe. They pull to a stop in front of a red traffic light. Namjoon looks over at Jimin, "Are you sure you're okay? You can tell me anything, you know that right?"
Jimin sighs, "I'm fine, Joonie. Don't worry about me. I know I can tell you anything, but there's nothing for you to worry about. I love you."
Namjoon nods and smiles, "I love you too, Jiminie." The light changes to green and Namjoon presses on the gas pedal. He has the right away, but a car comes forward from the left. Namjoon doesn't get enough time to hit the brakes and the oncoming car slams into the side of the car. The car recoils and bounces forward. Time seems to slow down as the airbags explode out. Jimin's eyes widen the airbag hits him in the face. Eventually, the car pulls to a stop. Jimin's ears ring slightly and he feels pain on his face from where the airbag impacted. He groans and slowly shifts in his seat. "Namjoon..." He mutters glancing to his right. His gaze is met by a body that is very much so worse for wear. There is blood coming from Namjoon's head as well as from his side. Jimin's eyes widen, his pain forgotten about when he sees his boyfriend's current state. "Joonie! Are you alright?" Jimin exclaims, looking over him with worry. Namjoon groans and opens his eyes slightly. He groans some more before speaking in a hushed tone, "Go, Jimin. I don't want you to see me like this...."
"I'm not leaving you, Namjoon. No way," Jimin says, "You're going to be okay. Help is going to come. I'll call someone..." He looks around for his phone, but is unable to locate it. "Don't, Jiminie. I-I'm not going to make it, Chim," Namjoon says his voice shaking.
"What!? Namjoon, don't say things like that. You're going to be fine...." Jimin states, his hands shaking again.
Namjoon coughs a little, "I'm not going to be fine. That car crashed right into me. I'm not going to make it...."
"No...Namjoon...you can't just give up. You're going to make it. You are!" Jimin says, "You can't die. You can't die on me."
"I'm sorry, Jiminie..." Namjoon whispers, "I'm so very sorry..."
Jimin shakes his head, tears forming in his eyes, "No. Don't say you're sorry. If you were sorry, you never would even consider leaving me. You wouldn't give up on your life like this!"
"I'm not giving up. I'm just accepting things..." Namjoon says with a wince, "It hurts, Jiminie. It hurts a lot." Jimin looks at Namjoon with blurred eyes, his heart pounding faster. "I can't give you false hope, Jimin. I can't say I'm going to make it when I feel like I won't," Namjoon says in a hushed tone. Jimin chokes out a sob and reaches for Namjoon's hand. He grips onto it and gently brings it to his lips. There are scratches that liter his hand from the broken glass, but Jimin can't bring himself to care. "Joonie...I can't lose you. You're everything to me. What do I do without you?" Jimin says, tears spilling down his face.
Namjoon cracks a small smile, "You'll be fine, Jimine. You don't need me. You're still young and you have a life to live. Go and love someone else. Go and live your life..."
Jimin frowns, "I do need you, Joonie. I need you so much. I don't want to find someone else, let alone love someone else. I may seem young, but I don't feel young. I feel like I've lived a thousand different lives and in every single one of them I'm on this wild goose chase." He thinks back to the images he saw mere moments ago and lets out a strangled sob. Jimin grips onto Namjoon's hand tightly, "We're supposed to be soulmates, remember. We're supposed to find one another and stay with each other forever..."
Namjoon nods his head in a weak manner, "We are....it's a good thing we are...it means we can find each other. Find me, Jiminie. In another life, find me and then we'll get our chance. We'll have our happy ending there...in another lifetime." The images flash through Jimin's head again and he cries even harder. He looks at Namjoon with watery eyes, "I don't want to find you in another life. I found you in this life. I want to love you in this life!!! Why can't I love you in this life!? In this lifetime!!! I'm young, but I'm tired. I'm tired of something I don't understand. I'm tired of losing. I'm tired of not finding my soulmate. Not finding my love!" Namjoon closes and opens his eyes slowly, only making out a few of Jimin's words. Jimin yells out in anguish and continues to cry. His head continues to spin and he has no real idea what he's saying anymore. Namjoon whispers, "I'm sorry, Jiminie...I love you, Jiminie. I will always love you. I love you...I love..." His hand goes slack in Jimin's grasp and his body stills. Jimin screams, "Namjoon!!! No! No! No! I can't lose you....no!!!!!" He sobs and his entire body shakes as he does. "Why!?! Why! Why must you play with me...why do you have to toy with me....why do you have to use me as your form of amusement!? Why!!?" Jimin says in between sobs. Jimin's eyes go blank as the sound of ambulance sirens slowly approach.
Not all soulmates end up with each other in each lifetime
Not all soulmates ever make it out together
End....this one was so sad for my Minjoon heart. It was honestly very sad. I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless. I was considering making this into a full length story, what do you think? I'm a sucker for soulmate storylines, so I will probably be writing a couple of soulmates one-shots in the future. Any who, please comment, vote, follow me, and add this story to your library. I will see you all for the next day of Minjoon one-shot week.
