Tegan

Breakfast had just finished. The sickly, sweet, goody-goody mood that every single person in this building seemed to have, hadn't stopped. I didn't know how much I could take. Jayda, Leah, Ava and Sarah sat with me at the long, broad table that reached from one end of the room to the other. That was the only table In the room, as there were only forty girls in the institute. The food that was served? Don't even get me started on that! I nearly puked when I saw Leah's tray. A brown, mushy banana.

"Is that all your eating?" I ask Leah, pinching my nose to cover the smell from Sarah's tray, that included soggy rice bubbles and an appetizer which was unidentifiable.

"Um duh?" chuckled Leah uncomfortably, avoiding eye contact.

"She's anorexic." whispered Sarah.

"Oh." I said even more uncomfortably.

"So, Tegan, why you here?" inquires Ava, leaning forward slightly.

"Um.... I don't know actually. I was just sent here by my Mum." I stutter, blushing a deep red.

"Cool." replies Ava nonchalantly.

"Why were you?" I ask, even more curious now.

"Most people that are sent here a Schizophrenic. I think your the only one here that isn't. Oh and Carrie too." Jayda pipes up.

I shuddered internally. This institute was creeping the shit out o

f me. Was I schizophrenic?

I decided to change the subject.

"Um, where is Carrie? She seemed quite strange on the train." I ask.

"Carrie's probably at the black room. She goes there a lot." Jayda replies. The others nod in agreement.

"Why does Carrie come here?" I was starting to get really curious about the black room.

"Carrie dosent know either. Just like you." Sarah laughed. I didn't see what was so funny about that.

The door to the kitchen opened slowly and I could see Carrie's head poke out from behind the door. She walked in and sat at the other end of table, followed by two girls, the excact replica of Jayda, Sarah, Leah and Ava. I looked around and saw that Carrie and I were the only girls that stood out from the others. The other 38 girls in the kitchen had the same green eyes and the same green streaks in their hair. Occasionally, some random girl's hair colour would change either a deep blue or a fiery red, but mostly they stayed a grassy green.

"Carrie, come sit with me!" I called across the long, broad table.

Carrie looks at me stonily. Then looks away.

"What's up with her?" I whisper to Leah.

"I don't know." replied Leah.

I knew I wasn't going to get any answers from these girls, just an "I don't know," statement.

I watch Carrie slowly eat her food, mouth full by mouth full. Jayda and Ava were just finishing up, Sarah and Leah waited for them. Carrie was talking to the two girls that were sitting with her, but I knew, just knew, that she wasn't really focused on that. I decided to talk to her after lunch.

"What do we do after this?" I ask the girls.

"Sunshine will tell." the girls reply.

And then. I heard it. An ear-piercing scream filled the room. Then another. And another. I had to block my ears the screams were so loud.

"WHY IS EVERYONE SCREAMING!" I shout, covering my ears tightly. But no matter how tight I covered my ears, the screams seem to be getting louder.

" What screams?" asks Sarah, with a confused look on her face.

"The screams that I can hear! They are so loud! " I shout, close to tears.

"Lets go." Leah whispers to Ava and they each take one of my arms and lead me outside.
