Resolution

A soft knock at the door awakened all of us.

We all stared wildly at each other, we all knew who it was.

"Hello darlings!" Sunshine exclaimed, flinging open the door.

A long, screaming silence followed. Not one of us knew what to say. After all, she had killed 3 of my friends and nearly killed a fourth. I snuck a quick look at Sarah, and I could see that she was clearly anxious.

"You're all quiet this morning." Sunshine commented, leaning lazily on the door.

"We're just really tired." I lied.

"I just dropped by to tell you that breakfast has been cancelled and a meeting will be held in the Green room at 9." And with that, Sunshine flourished out of the room, out of sight.

"I wonder what she wants." Sarah breathily, her voice shaking slightly.

"We'd better go, we don't want to risk getting into trouble." I respond quietly.

"The sooner we get out of here, the better," Leah mumbled, "Just do whatever she says so we can get into her good books. She won't suspect a thing."

"When are you planning to call the number, Sarah?" I ask, throwing on the uniform consisting of a black skirt and black long-sleeve bodysuit. If it were to snow, it was our bad luck, as Sunshine wouldn't hear of anyone wearing a jacket.

"When I know the time is right." Sarah replied.

"The sooner, the better." Leah repeated, scowling as she tugged the two-sizes-too-small skirt that just barely covered her thighs.

"Leah's right, the sooner we leave this mess, the sooner our trauma will end." I agree.

We kept quiet after that, and left the room in silence.

I think all of us sensed that Jayda's and Carrie's presence was only imaginable, impossible, invisible. Even Asia, whom I'd only spoken to those few times, still left a deep hole inside of me. I knew that all of us were losing it. Losing the only bit of sanity we had when we came here. Carrie had lost her's a long time ago, longer than what we ever could have imagined. Jayda ignored the trauma, she had to. She had to protect us, mother us, mold us, save us. But without Jayda, without Carrie, we were really nothing.

Every time I looked at Sarah, the person who stared back was Amy. Sarah's soul was long gone. Leah was trying so hard to keep it all together, but even I could see that she was slowly tethering.

We took our time going to the Green room. We were soon joined by a few other girls from another dormitory.

I noticed that every now and then, one of them would glance up at me, usually with a shocked expression.

I nudged Leah.

"What?" Leah asked, looking annoyed.

"I think there group," I say, pointing at the group of girls whispering, "Are talking about me. Did something else happen while I was in a coma?"

Leah opened her mouth to speak, but was quickly silenced when one of the girls stood infront of us, causing all three of us to bump into each other.

"Wasn't this girl," The girl asked, pointing a finger at me "Supposed to be dead?"

The three of us looked warily at each other. None of us new how to answer the question.

"Well, yes. But Carrie, um, took my place." I mumbled, tugging at the hem of my skirt nervously.

"Oh." the girl replied, staring me up and down. Silence followed.

"Um, your blocking the way?" Sarah sneered.

The girl moved aside without uttering a word. We continued walking, clearly obvious to the sneers we were receiving behind us.

The Green room was empty. As soon as we had set foot outside it, the door was flung open by an estatic Sunshine.

"Come in, but make sure to close the door behind you, lock it, and sit down at separate desks." Sunshine called, roughly ushering us in and slamming the door.

I quickly reached the nearest desk and sat down gingerly. The splintery chair was probably the most uncomfortable seats I had ever sat in. But I knew that what was about to be said, would make the splintery chair seem like a distant memory.

"There's something I need to tell all of you." Sunshine said, gesturing to all of us.

None of us spoke. We sat, frozen in our creaky chairs.

"Leedrae, please come out and  introduce yourself." Sunshine called over her shoulder.

I turned around to see a tall, very thin girl come out from behind Sunshine. But there was something different about Leedrae then there was too any other girl.

Leedrae had confidence. You could just tell from the smirk ridden all over her face that she was arrogant and conceited. Leedrae was the type of girl who would say 'fuck it all' whilst holding a cigarette in her hand.

But there was something about Leedrae.

She was looking directly at me.

I couldn't read her expression, although she wasn't expressionless.

Her piercing eyes... were different.

There were something about her, that reminded me of Carrie.

God I missed her.

"Isn't she gorgeous?" murmured Sunshine, fondling  her long red hair.

Leedrae pulled away slowly, a look of disgust spreading across her face.

"Go sit next Antonia, she'll guide you to your new dormitory and show you around." Sunshine said, gesturing to a seat next to her.

"If you don't mind, I'd rather sit next to her." Leedrae replied, pointing directly at me.

Sunshine looked bewildered. I don't think anyone had the guts to defy a request from her. But to my surprise, she regained composure and agreed to Leedrae objection.

So Leedrae walked over and sat gingerly on the chair next to me. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Sarah and Leah exchange uncomfortable glances. Ava sat stiffly in her seat, eyeing Leedrae anxiously.

All eyes were on Leedrae as a loud silences filled the room. It seemed almost everyone were quietly observing her every move. The scraping sound of the chair next to me echoes violently around the room.

After 2 excruating  minutes of utter silences, Sunshine broke the tension by clapping her hands nervously. "Okay everyone, quiet down. Lesson three on Mental Health valuation will commence now. Open up your books and copy what I write of the whiteboard."

As Sunshine droned on, I slowly tuned out. Loosing focus was a common habit of mine lately. It seemed that all I could think about lately were my old friends. And how much I missed them.

But today, I lost focus because I was so busy staring at Leedrae. I was gradually figuring her out. Finding her intentions. Searching her for clues. But I couldn't find anything, as I couldn't see her face underneath her long brown hair, which was covering her face like a security blanket.

"Tegan?" I jumped, spinning out of my day dream.

"Hmm?" I replied, looking at Leah's bewildered face.

"Who were you and Sunshine staring at?" She asked.

My mouth dropped open, "What do you mean?"

"Who was Sunshine talking about? Was she talking to you?" Leah questioned curiously.

I swallowed nervously. What did she mean by all this? Surely she could see Leedrae!?

"Stop joking Leah. It's not funny. Keep it down, Leedrae might hear you." I nudged Leah angrily.

"Who is Leedrae?! I can't see anyone!" Leah exclaimed a little too loudly.

Sunshine looked at us harshly, but thankfully didn't say a word.

I turned sharply. Leedrae was now staring at me. She looked as if she was about to say something. But she changed her mind and went back to copying the whiteboard.

"Leah, I'm telling you, there is a girl sitting right next to me, copying the whiteboard, just like Sunshine told us to." I explained to her, the Knott inside my stomache intensing.

"Tegan, I'm worried about you... Your hallucinating again." Leah whispered, looking at me, her dark eyes full with fear.

I don't reply. I just stared at Leedrae.

"No Leah, I think your hallucinating. I mean, Sunshine see's her too!."

Before Leah could speak, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I spun around and saw Leedrae, with a startled expression on her face. She regained herself and slipped something into my hand.

"Read it." Leedrae whispered.

I glanced at Leah. "Leah, didn't you just see her hand me a piece of paper?!"

Leah shook her head, "I'm sorry Tegan."

My hands shook as I opened the note. It said;

Tegan-

I know about everything that has happened and I can help you. I hear that your looking for a phone to get in contact with Carrie. The only phone on this premises is in the black room. You wouldn't have been able to see if before, since literally everything has been confiscated from you, but here is a tip. Looking behind the mirror.

I shoved the letter into Leah's hand. "Explain this."

Leah took it cautiously, then passed it to Sarah and Leah with a grim expression on her face.

"Hallucination or not, the note is real." I say.

"Do you think that we can actually use this phone to contact her? I mean, this seems so unrealistic." Ava commented.

"This whole thing is unrealistic as can be!" I hiss.

"I say we should do this. This may be our only chance to escape." Leah says seriously.

I look towards Leedrae again. But she was gone.

"I can't see Leedrae anymore..." I mumble.

Leah just shrugged sadly at me, her dull eyes dropping ever so slightly.

"What is wrong with me?" I mutter to myself, "She.. she was just there. And Sunshine was even speaking about her."

"Look, Tegan, maybe you should go back to the dormitory. I think you need some rest." Ava replied cautiously.

"But. I. Saw. Her." I snapped back.

"Tegan, Im serious. Just face that you were hallucinating and that Leedrae does not exist. Now will you shut up?" Ava hisses, gritting her teeth together.

"Whatever." I say, and as I look up, I feel over 20 pairs of eyes focusing on my face. I could feel my face go bright red as I nod and mouth 'sorry' to the crowd of miserable eyes.

The rest of Sunshine's lesson was filled with deafening silence. The only voice that could be heard was Sunshine's sugar coated voice talking for what seemed like an eternity.

As the bell ringed for second period, I got out of my chair and walked nervously up to Sunshine, carefully ignoring the curoius stares of my peers.

"Um Sunshine. C-can i-i-i please g-go to my dormitory? I f-feel sick." I stutter.

Sunshine smiles at me, "Of course you can sweet pea."

But as I turn to leave, she catches my arm. "I would be careful if i where you dear. If i catch you going anywhere but your dormitory i will kill you. Understand?"

I nodded. I tried to braverly exit the room, but failed as i felt myself blacking out.

"Tegan!" i could hear Carrie scream as i felt her running into my arms.

And i smiled.
