Chapter 12 - Two parts, One Soul

---Quinton's POV---

The drive was long, especially because we had to stop for Felix' parents after their car broke down. They had felt conflicted but allowed me to take their son to meet up with Milo. I reassured them he'd be in safe hands and even went as far as to call my brother to have him send someone over.

Right now I was tapping the steering wheel nervously, glancing back in the mirror to look at Felix. The boy held his eyes closed or looked down at his lap but never outside. I'm sure the quickly moving surroundings would prove too much for his senses.

A short, warning howl rose up from the forest and I tensed. It was custom for the wolves on patrol to alert the pack house of any visitors, usually by a howl so they knew from which direction they were coming from.

"Was that...a wolf? Awesome! I've always wanted to see wolves but I never saw Felix' wolf so..." Charlie chattered happily as she nearly pressed her nose against the window before rolling it down.

Felix, on the other hand, had completely stilled, eyes wide as he tilted his head. He appeared to be listening intently, completely focused and perched on the edge of his seat before he sighed and slowly sat back.

"Yeah, that was a wolf...this is a wolf recovery center, after all." I replied to Charlie whilst hashing out the excuse that made it plausible for spotting a pack member. She nodded eagerly, eyes gleaming in delight while Felix seemed distressed and closed his eyes before humming deeply.

It couldn't be fear for wolves...at least, I didn't think so. Maybe a bit of apprehension at the loud sound but-

As we turned on the driveway and the car was slowing down, another howl resounded. A howl I was starting to recognize as Milo's. It sounded lonesome, sad and near desperate.

My eyes widened and I jerked at the wheel when a responding howl burst through the tiny car, spooking both Charlie and myself. Before I had the wherewithal to stop the car completely, Felix had already yanked the door open and tumbled outside.

"Holy shit, is he looking to get himself killed?!"

I threw the car in park and opened my door, expecting to see Felix curled up to nurse the bad scrapes he obviously earned from skidding on the gravel. Instead he ignored his scraped up, bleeding knees and tore off towards the packhouse when Milo howled again, louder and excited.

Felix responded instantly, making the others look up with curious smiles.

"Fuck, Quinton keep an eye on the visitors! Milo broke through the fucking door!" My eyes widened at Lee's message as I hurried after Felix. "Shit, Felix is already running. Where is my pup at?"

"Gunning for the front door as we speak."

Lee's message barely came through before Milo stumbled through the doorway, avoiding Sebastian's attempt to catch the runaway wolf. My son snapped at the grabbing hands before his eyes landed on Felix.

Several of the pack spilled out, some trying to chase Milo as Felix ran for him in a straight line. Both tripping awkwardly, scrambling as multiple voices rushed over the pack link, all distressed and trying to stop Milo.

---Milo's POV---

He's here!

I hadn't expected a response when I had let out a locating howl, but when a familiar voice howled back, I jumped up, jarring my head against the underside of the overturned bed. Shaking it slightly, I was already running for the door, scratching at it in an attempt to open it.

They had left it unlocked but it was closed so... I ran back to the other side of the room, slamming face first into the floor as I dropped through my front leg. But I ignored the stinging pain and instead howled again, dashing for the door and slamming against it.

It cracked open after three times and I slipped outside and followed the sound of my boy when several of the wolf men appeared. My teeth bared as I snarled at them but fled outside, tripping once until I saw my boy.

He was already running towards me, tripping on the grassy yard as I ran to him as well. I could feel my heart thudding in my throat as I ignored the people around me, yipping happily when Felix tackled me to the floor, causing us to roll and slip a few times.

"Puppy."

I heard him snivel before he buried his face in my fur, clutching me tightly as I rolled over in his hold to nuzzle his cheeks. Licking away any tear I encountered, I sighed and wagged my tail happily.

I have my boy back.

Days had passed since we last seen each other and I inhaled his scent as deeply as I could, like he was doing to me. I snorted when I detected the pungent tang of his pain, nuzzling closer and whining as he started sobbing. I didn't even need his signs, I could feel and hear him in my mind.

"I missed you."

A low, warning growl started up in my chest as the others slowly gathered around us. I gently pushed Felix so he was underneath me, my right shoulder resting above his chest as I stood protectively above him.

They're not taking you away from me, ever again.

"Easy Milo, we're not going to hurt you. Either of you." I cocked my head slightly, hackles still raised as I looked up at the older male. How did he know my name? Looking down, I growled happily as Felix scratched his fingers through the fur of my throat without a care in the world.

The man smiled, though it seemed more sad than anything. "Please, let's just get inside and we'll try to explain everything. It seems best that you remain close to Milo, Felix."

Felix didn't respond, he simply sat up as I backed up two steps, whining when I saw several angry red welts running crisscross over my boy's face. His nails were snapped, torn to bits as well and I whimpered knowing that he'd been in pain as well.

When he stood, he wobbled slightly but I pressed myself against him. Now that he stood by my right side and grabbed a gentle hold of my scruff, it seemed easier to walk, knowing that if I stumbled, Felix would be there to keep me upright.

"They don't even know it yet, do they?"

My ears flattened as I glanced back at the time the elder man shook his head in response. "No, and I don't know if it's going to be easy to explain to them. Felix might understand it rather quickly but...my son doesn't even know what he is."

His deep sigh was followed by a low whine and I felt oddly torn.

"I hope his son comes around soon...It would be nice to have a father that loves you that much..." My front paw slipped on the slick marble and I fell down but Felix was quick to catch me, though he slipped too and ended up falling on his butt.

My muzzle was pressed against his stomach as he let a small whine slip past his lips. Leaning forwards, I nuzzled his cheek and huffed as Felix curled his nose in an adorable way. His eyes sparked as I sniffed at the marks on his face before he surprised me by nuzzling me back.

I yipped and bounced on my paws, arching low and playfully before Felix laughed and chased after me. My heart thudded in my chest but this time out of happiness. Even with the people walking ahead and behind us, we simply ignored the world around us as Felix playfully chased me before I turned the tables and chased him back.

A low whine made me look up, tilting my head and perking my ears to locate the sound. My eyes quickly found the source and they widened quickly before I dashed ahead.

"A puppy!"

I skidded to a halt when it whined, whimpering fearfully and crawled behind one of the men. He smiled down at the pup, keeping a watchful eye on me and chuckled as I gazed at the little pup confused.

"Zayne is always a bit on edge meeting strangers. He'll get used to you guys in no time." The man's eyes flitted behind me before smiling politely. "My name is Marcus, and yours?"

I didn't need to look back to know Felix was standing behind me, his fingers gently carding through my fur were a telltale sign. Marcus did frown when Felix didn't respond before that girl from his family spoke up.

"His name is Felix and he's quite curious where you found a wolf pup. I'm quite curious too, if I'm being honest." My eyes stayed on the pup as it looked around Marcus' legs and took a few steps closer.

My tail sped up and Felix crouched down slowly, tilting his head slightly before holding his hand out. He didn't completely reach out to pet little Zayne, he let the pup decide what to do, just like he'd done to me.

Zayne seemed hesitant but as Felix didn't move, simply staring at the pups' paws, he approached and slowly sniffed Felix' hand. While we were so focused on Zayne, I hadn't focused on my surroundings and fell to the floor with a snarl as something collided into my front leg.

I fell onto it, feeling it squirm underneath me and yip quite loudly as I growled and fumbled to my paws, shaking out my fur. Within seconds a small white pup was jumping up at me, skidding left and right over the slick floors.

Pups! They have wolf pups too!

My body shivered in excitement, eager to go out and play but also wanting to stay put near Felix to make sure he was safe. The white pup didn't seem to mind at all, instead chose to leap in-between Felix' outstretched arms to rapidly lick at my boys face.

A snort left my lips as Felix started to chuckle, which soon turned into a laugh as the pup kept up its excited licking, tiny paws pushing against Felix' shoulders until the boy actually flopped over and allowed the pup to jump around in excitement.

Eventually it calmed down to sniff at Felix' cheek and I snorted, nosing the curious pup and nudged it off my boy so he could sit up and breathe. It tried to jump up but was caught by two men, who chuckled and shook their head lovingly.

"Let's take this to the living room, shall we? And Dimitri, stop sniffing around at the girl will you? You're scaring her off."

"Do I smell or something?" Charlie said, taking a hesitant sniff at her shoulder while Dimitri cleared his throat softly and shook his head, walking past us with a blush on his face. I scented the air as he walked by, huffing and shaking my head at the thick scent that enveloped the man.

I don't know what the hell that was, but it had a lot of pheromones in it.

Felix stood up and I followed his lead, hopping on the couch he picked and huddled up close. When he curled on his side and laid down, I panted happily and crawled closer until I was buried in his hold.

Heaven.

Pure, sweet heaven.
