Chapter 10 - Lost and found
---Felix' POV---
Milo will be okay... he'll wake up and be fine.
At least, that's what I've been thinking to myself as I rocked back and forth in my corner, unable to stop my humming or communicate in any way. I knew dad was worried, mom was on her way here and even asked Charlie to come over and translate.
But I couldn't stop swaying, the steady hum and rocking motion the only thing that kept my mind from going insane, wondering when and if I was going to see Milo again.
He's been in there for hours!
"The vet is still operating on Milo. He'll be okay Felix, you know he can pull through. The vet is even calling in a colleague who's specialized in wolves and a wolf recovery center." Dad murmured while sitting down on the floor beside me but made sure not to sit right next to me.
I appreciated that. I didn't want to be touched, even though I was still covered in Milo's blood. Blood that was drying up on my cheek and hands but I didn't care. I wasn't able to move, not unless I could see Milo, see him panting and acting like a pup.
My eyes darted for the sliding doors as they opened, seeing three large men step inside and file into the waiting room. A fourth darted further inside, introducing himself as the wolf vet Adam. I blinked, hopeful that he might help Milo.
"You okay kid?"
One of the strangers deep voice rumbled through the room as I kept rocking back and forth, leaving my father to sigh softly. "I'm sorry, Felix is... distraught. We brought in his only friend, badly injured."
The man nodded in understanding, "Yeah, it can be hard to lose a pet." I bared my teeth at that with a low growl, gaining three very curious looks as the men sniffed the air. Milo wasn't a pet. He was my friend, my pup. I wasn't going to lose Milo.
Never.
"Dimitri, you did tell Adam where to go, right?"
The man on the left, who had spoken up the first time, scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Quite obvious, he knows where to go Greg. Stop being such a grump." The third man laughed as Greg glared at Dimitri.
"Grumpy cause he can't get his hands on Seth..." He murmured, easily blocking Greg's punch as the man growled. "Fuck off Terrance. You were whining about Mike all the way up here."
Terrance, Greg and Dimitri perked up as the vet came back in, looking at the men confused before nodding. "Ah, I see. You're from the wolf sanctuary? I'll talk to you in a bit, but these men here are the ones who've brought the wolf in. Its recovering well from surgery and should be well enough to be transported in another hour."
My head snapped up, eyes widening as I froze. Milo.
---Milo's POV---
My head felt so heavy as I slowly lifted it. I couldn't even open my eyes, yet my nose sniffed the air sharply.
...Where...
...Where's... Felix...
My nose bumped against something cool and when I tried to stand up, I flopped down with a whine. I still couldn't feel my right leg, but maybe that was the chemicals I scented in my body. I didn't care for that though.
Where's my boy?!
Slowly and with a lot of effort, I managed to open my eyes, only to feel fear slam in my chest as my heart started racing. I clearly remembered Felix' father talking about bringing me to the vet...yet I wasn't in a vet's office at all.
In fact, I was waking up on a bed that was heavily infused with an adult man's scent... a wild scent that made my hackles rise with a soft growl.
Where am I? What is this place?
Pushing myself on wobbly paws, I tried to hop off the bed but crashed when I had tried to land on my front paws...which had strangely changed into paw.
I blinked rapidly, feeling panic bubble up as I noticed the lack of a right leg. What the hell?!?! Fumbling around, I managed to push myself on my three remaining paws but flopped over when I tried to take a step.
Why did they take my leg?
A door opened and I snarled, backing up in a corner as several of the wolf-people walked in the room, only pausing at my snarls.
"This is Zayne all over again."
Terrance snorted. "At least Zayne was brought to a vet that knew not to amputate legs on shifters. I mean what the fuck man, he could've healed perfectly within a few weeks but no, the moronic human just chopped his leg off." He threw his arms up in the air with annoyance while a slender male patted him on the chest.
"Easy big guy, we're here to meet the new pack-member, not to scare him to death. Quinton is gonna kick your delicious butt if he sees you throwing a tantrum next to his pup." Their eyes landed back on me and I snapped my teeth in response.
What do they want from me? Where is Felix?
"Felix? As in the teenage wolf from Zayne's pack?" Terrance huffed and rolled his eyes. "No Sebastien, Quinton's pup has made friends with a human boy named Felix. Autistic too."
Dimitri sighed deeply and face-palmed. "And why is that tidbit of information important? Be glad the boy cared about Quinton's pup otherwise he'd be dead."
My ears flattened as I was pressed firmly in the corner of the room, tail tucked tightly between my legs. There was no way out of here and if these wolves decided to shift and attack, there was no way I could fend them off.
Especially not with the loss of my leg.
"Easy there... we're on your side. We just want to help pup."
I snarled deeper, snapping my teeth. I wasn't anyone's pup. Only Felix could call me that. I was His pup. No one else's.
Slowly they moved out of the room as another unknown male walked in. His scent was the same that stuck to the bedding and I eyed him worriedly, knowing just how twisted humans could react. One moment you were fine with them, the next they were biting and snarling.
And I'm quite sure these people were no different.
"Pup...my little pup." The man chocked as he kneeled down, reaching a hand out as if to pet me. I snarled deeply, snapping my jaws inches away from his flesh. He quickly yanked back his hand but his expression was torn as I moved along the wall, keeping my leg out of his view.
It was awkward to balance on three legs, having to hop every other step and try not to show the pain that was steadily pouring through my body. But above all else, I was extremely worried, felt fear clawing at my insides and tearing my heart apart.
Where was Felix?
WHERE IS MY BOY?!
Fingers brushed through my fur and I reacted on instinct, twisting my head and clapping my jaws shut with a snarl. The man let out a pained hiss as I bit down his hand before I released it, letting several roaring barks echo through the room.
Give me back MY BOY!!
My hind legs kicked off as I launched towards him, jaws wide open as my mind turned feral. They took me away from Felix, who was being stalked by a mountain lion. My boy needed me! Who was going with him on his walks? Who was going to make sure he didn't wander?!
"Quinton, get the fuck out of there! He's going feral!"
Blood was in the air as I snapped and chased after the fleeing man, bumping against a bedside table and tossing it over as I tumbled. it gave the wolf just enough time to dart out in the hallway before the door was slammed shuts inches from my muzzle.
GIVE HIM BACK!
I clawed at the door, ignoring the throbbing pain in my shoulder and healing wounds as I kept scratching at the door, biting in the wooden frame until it chipped and splintered. They weren't letting me out however and I raged through the room, ripping the bedding, tossing furniture upside down and destroyed everything I could.
When I sagged through my trembling legs, I was panting heavily, eyes going through the carnage in the room. The bed was toppled on its side, the once soft mattress ruined as the filling was spilling out from several gashes.
My palette stung, no doubt from the countless splinters that had pierced it when I had mauled the furniture. I slowly laid in a more comfortable position behind the bed, keeping an eye on the door.
Felix...
I need my boy...
Letting my head rest on my left leg, I sighed and relaxed as best as I could. My body was throbbing and I could hear the wolf-people on the other side mumbling to one another. A deep, lone howl erupted from my throat as I waited for a response from Felix.
Nothing came.
I lost everything.
