Reader X Zoro "Hitman The Gunslinger, Or, Gunslinger The Hitman"
Glaring into the phone in your hand with a straight up death sentence, being the calm woman you were, you merely sighed in irritation, but boy was that last customer of your's sure as hell annoying, sometimes you wondered why you haven't already received a request for her assassination yet, removing the apron tied around your waist and pulling on your shades, you flicked it into the garbage can right before you left your shitty workplace at the mall.
You were just given the task to shoot down Roronoa Zoro, exactly at high noon tomorrow, although you never once considered turning down a client, something just felt amiss with this case, you knew the client well, and you were sure as hell positive she never once interacted with the man, she also didn't have any motive behind killing him, not to mention she would just have more to lose then to gain since some of her jobs depended on rookies like him, there was definitely something going down.
It frustrated you to no end whenever you were missing a piece to the puzzle, there was just one gap of information you were lacking, you just knew it, streaking a finger through your (H/L) locks, thinking about it for only a moment longer, instead of focusing on it anymore you settled for letting it go, even if you knew her reason or not, that didn't change the fact that you had a job to do.
Smirking at the sound of your combat boots click clacking on the concrete, you couldn't help but love seeing other pedestrians take one glance at you before staring at nothing but the ground as you passed, knowing exactly how much you intimidated others and frightened them into silence, it was a mighty amazing feeling, because they all should be afraid.
Finally reaching the train station, you easily hacked into the system using your high tech wristband with the click of a button, tricking the system into thinking you've already prepaid for everything, the s-class seat to and back from your destination, the extra service, and a personal area to keep your luggage, even though it appeared you had none, for now at least.
Walking straight into the high class area of the metal machine along with the rest of the rich folk, you ignored many of their scoffs and sneers at the humble way you dressed compared to them, smirking as a guard escorted you to the near front of the train, whistling seeing the comfortable fabric that coated your seat.
"Nice digs, damn I've hit some fine gold, heh" waving the man off, you happily slouched into the cushions while removing your shades, it was practically taking everything you had to not purr in delight at how damn comfortable it was, the bed like seat, scented air conditioning, now all you were missing was some grub to satisfy your hunger from working in a shitty children's restaurant all day.
With your eyes still shut from closing them in the feeling of security, you blindly swung your hand to the chair hand of buttons, hitting the communication switch by pure luck, "how may I serve you miss (fake name)?" Opening one eye at the young voice, you felt an entertained smirk force itself onto your face without intending it to, this kid sounded down right adorable and naive, how unfortunate.
"I'd like the best chef on the train to cook me...hmmm, I think I'm feeling piiiiizzzza? No, lasagna, nono wait, burgers-actually no, make it ramen, then again-no-ice cream! Ah! Ababababa-ba! Oh! How 'bout poutine? Scratch that, I want some tacos, only with tortillas! Wait no, I'm definitely craving some funnel cake! No! I made up my mind, okay, forget all those other things, and get me some....milk" the poor kid must have been so confused now, either that or they might have thought you were pregnant or something because the line was dead silent, oh well, too bad god made you so indecisive.
"D-did you decide on milk?" So the kid wasn't dead, grinning at the meek voice, you just hummed in agreement before they hung up, probably gone to get your drink ready, and you kinda almost wished he took longer than he did since you didn't want to sit up when he arrived.
Glancing down, you almost wanted bolt up in surprise, seeing a fairly recognizable young preteen, staring up at you with his enormous innocent brown doe orbs, but knowing that'd probably just make him feel insecure, you merely pretended not to know him, even if it would be a good idea to probably kidnap him or something.
"H-here's your milk miss (fake name)" handing out a talk glass, he carefully set it onto your table, discreetly bringing his other hand to his nose to scratch at the blue bandage, "is there anything else you want?" You could notice the kid grimace immediately after saying those words seeing you place a hand on your chin in deep thought, just feeling the intimidating clock hands in your eyes tick eagerly.
"Hmmm, yeah, I want...brownies, no wait! Lava cake, yeah, lava cake, nope actually I was right with the brownies" suddenly thinking up an idea, you sneakily pulled something out of your pocket as he rushed to write down the order, "wait kid!" Just as he got to the door in his rush out, the brown haired boy paused.
"Here's something for your troubles" extending your fist to him, you could practically see the stars glow in his eyes before rushing back to you, making you inwardly sigh seeing that he was obviously never tipped before, kind of making you feel bad knowing you were just using the tip to throw him off, as you dropped the coins and bill into his eager little hands, your other hand seemingly patted his head, without him knowing though, you were actually sticking a bug in his huge hat.
Watching him grin widely as he skipped down the halls out, you lounged back into your seat, practically falling asleep along with the sounds of whistles, engines and wind, before you even knew it yourself, it had already gotten dark outside and all your food was practically wiped off the plates, with you already curled up asleep on the cushions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jolting back up awake at the sound of excessive honking, you looked outside to see the sun just barely beginning to peak out from over the horizon, feeling that the train stopped, you guessed you came back around just in time to get off before any nosy conductors tried to check up on you.
So without even giving anyone a glance, you silently stepped off the train, not bothering to falter in your step even when the ground below you was crooked as a camel's back, though you expected as much from Amber Oakley, the dirt was almost as crooked as the people here in your opinion, but that is what made them trustworthy, you could always count on them to destroy the moral rights of humanity.
Walking through the torn down town, one might have thought it was abandoned if it wasn't for the few people who fumbled around the streets like mercenaries, all wearing things that covered their faces or perfectly hid their physiques, that was how you dressed around here if you didn't want to be hounded.
Ignoring many of their curious and some even murderous glances, you turned to the one man in town who you had a decent amount of trust in, not hesitating to enter without knocking, you glanced around at all the guns and blades that coated the walls, although even if some piked your interest you just couldn't afford most of them, including you had no idea where he got the said merchandise.
"Well if it ain't my best regular" turning to the counter, you smiled seeing the owner's cheeky grin, almost reminding you of a child sneaking into a candy store and looting the place in the middle of the night, but you knew so much better than to compare the boy to a kid, even if he really acted like one.
"Well if it ain't Sappary Van Sullivan, almost hoped you kicked the bucket and I could just loot the place, maybe make it into one of my hideouts" you snapped back, the raven though merely chuckled behind his ragged crimson scarf at your retort, never once have you seen him without it, since he never wanted to be parted with the damn treasured piece of cloth, sometimes you wondered who it was that gave it to him.
"Neheheheheh! You're a riot gunslinger! I guess you're here because you've been given a job?" Turning his back to you and bending over, from the corner of your eye, you saw in the reflection of a blade on the wall that he pulled out a small cloth and began to polish a box of bullets, smiling at the friendly, homey feel that he just let off, you walked to the counter, hoisting yourself up to sit on it and watched him work.
"Yeah, got a request to shoot down Roronoa Zoro, so I'm hoping you're finished with my pistols?" Looking at his beret when he adjusted it for a moment, Sullivan hummed in thought for a second before completely stopping in his work, "Roronoa? I've heard his name before from other clients, he's that new swordsman dude who uses his freaking mouth right? Ain't he like, some formidable figure nowadays?" Rolling your eyes as he went back to his work, you just simply deflated, letting your back basically smack onto the counter below you.
Taking in a deep breath, you just tried to relax for a moment, resisting the instinct to slap his gloved hand away when the teen moved to brush a (H/L) bang off your face, opening one of your eyes, you wanted to frown at the concern hidden in his steely amber orbs, becoming perfectly framed by his round bob, it really made you jealous how his hair looked so silky and how it perfectly rounded his face, it ended right above his jaw and the tips of his hair curled right out, making him seem like a girl if you looked from far away.
"Your soulmate is so fucking lucky.." apparently not expecting the sudden praise, Sullivan quickly turned away, but you could tell his chest was overflowing with pride, "yes, yes he fucking is and never forget that, god I love that man but sometimes I wish he was a bit more appreciative of the smaller things in life, like you" smirking as the guy began to grumble and groan about his love life woes, you watched as he pulled out your treasured pistols.
Swiftly scooping them into your arms, you affectionately gave each of them a soft peck on the holsters, giving the hatted raven a wide smirk, "you sure you still wanna work with those old things? I could easily get you some of those new models that've been coming into light, shape-shifting guns an' shit, technology is really beginning to scare me these days, no doubt the apocalypse is coming this year" pouting at his words, you only paused a moment before a light bulb flashed in your head.
"Oh really? What about you? Usually a therapist would pay you a fortune to listen to all the crap you complain to me about, you're just lucky I do this shit for free, even if I don't have any license" you cackled on your way out seeing his infuriated blush.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Walking through the abandoned ruins of the New World district, you turned a corner, taking a small moment to appreciate the church's beautiful architecture before walking towards it with a sigh, pausing at the single wooden board covering the entrance in front of your face, you questioned why anyone would even bother, seeing you could just duck under it, but nevertheless, you punched it into pieces.
Entering the wide, scrapped place, you just continued to the alter and took a comfortable spot right underneath the statue of an angel with a sword, some sort of protection from evil spirits or whatnot, but you couldn't care less as you pulled out a small tablet from your backpack and turned it on, the screen remained black, but a red button flashed on indicating it was indeed on.
Plugging in your earphones, you smirked hearing the conversation play out, "-got this really nice tip from a pretty lady!" You couldn't help but smile at the boy's innocence, 'note to self, love this kid like a son' dear lord he was too precious.
"Oh? One of those stingy rich folk actually paid you?" Recognizing the voice as cat burglar Nami, you rolled your eyes in annoyance, guessing somehow she was the reason Chopper was working there in the first place, then you heard some footsteps, but you paid them no mind.
"Umm, actually I don't think she was a rich lady though, what she was wearing was really different than those perfume bathing women, her clothes were more like Robin's" you grinned, listening to a few noises until finally hearing the voice you wanted, "was she? Then she must have been a thief if she could afford the prices of that crappy train" Roronoa Zoro, he sounded pretty rugged, buff, definitely well built.
For some reason the voice comforted you a bit, it was having the same effect the sound of serene music would on your tense muscles, although it bugged you, your concentration was soon brought back to the conversation, "hmm? Chopper, could you possibly define this woman in more detail?" You recognized that familiar voice instantly, it belonged to the town rat, a woman who you once had to go to a few times in the past.
"Uhhh, she had (H/L) (H/C) hair that had lots of split ends in it, her hands were kinda rough, and there was a tilt in her posture, she hunched over a lot and tilted her neck to the left a lot, she was really indecisive, and she had a hard time choosing over a lot of things, her (E/C) eyes were really nice, but they were also kinda scary at the same time, when I stared at them for really long, I noticed they looked like clocks, because I could see the hands coming out of her corneas" you then heard the sound of cloth rubbing against wood.
"Clock eyes? Then it really was her" you listened in even closer, "who?" Robin asked, "they call her gunslinger the hit man, or maybe hit man the gunslinger, no one really knows which is which, but she is a very secretive woman, rumor has it, she's clever as a whip, as skinny as a pencil, and possibly the scariest gunslinger currently living, and I should know" you smiled loving your reputation.
"She sounds scary! I actually talked to her!?" Chopper seemed to have freaked, from hearing his terrified cries, "what I want to know is why she was there? I've met her a few times, and she isn't the type to go out unless she's either been hired for another kill or she's bored and wants to entertain herself, she takes her jobs and her reputation seriously" you heard the room go silent, how annoying.
"Is she like the rumors say?" Zoro spoke excitedly, making you blush without knowing, "not exactly, she's indeed damn sharp, bit she's definitely not as skinny as a pencil, she's more...fun sized" a tick mark popped on your head, 'fun sized'? What the hell was that supposed to mean? Unconsciously feeling uncomfortable with your figure, you pressed a hand to your gut, maybe you should cut back on the munchies for a bit?
"Hmm, something sounds strange about her.." 'I could say the same thing about you swordsman' you just couldn't get your mind off of the target, and by the sound of it, he developed a curiosity in you too, just great.
"Do you know where she usually goes to hang out?" The question almost made you choke, wheeze, then fall face first into the cracked marble of the church, "what!?" Thank god the bug didn't alert them to any sound on your end, or your cover would have been completely blown, listening in even closer, you were almost anticipating the answer even more than he probably was, "well, there was once a rumor going around she worked somewhere in that giant mall during the day, but it blew over pretty quickly and was replaced by another saying she likes to kill her prey in Navarone plaza" you smirked, hearing that he was falling for your rumor bait.
"How many rumors are there about her?" There was a short pause, "many, no one knows where she came from, who she is, what she's after, hell, I didn't even know she was a (H/C) until Chopper told me since she always wore a different colored wig every time we went, actually, she might have been wearing a wig on the train too, but one thing is for certain, the only way to identify her is with her unmistakable clock eyes" even to you this was impressive, honestly, you actually tried to make it easy for others to catch you.
"Is that all you know?" 'Why do you care, weirdo?' Zoro was being oddly insistent about knowing things about you, it was strange since all that you heard about the guy was that he acted first, then asked questions, you turned back to the royally busted door and bit your lip to keep yourself from cursing in annoyance, only now noticing how high the sun was getting, pulling out your watch, you glared at the hands, 10:43, damn it was almost high noon.
"There's dozens of rumors Zoro, some say she came from the south, killed her first man at the age of six, some say the reason nobody knows nothing about her is because she ain't human at all and fell down from the heavens, there's even a rumor saying she's a millionaire from the north" you heard a few rustling noises but couldn't hear them quite right.
Tucking the tablet into your backpack again, you were already predicting his moves as you casually strolled out of the church, heading towards your future kill sight, "you said she likes to kill near Navarone right?" An evil smile painted your lips, taking the shape of the blade of a very sharp kitchen knife, "I'm gonna go out for a sec, I wanna check this out" you couldn't help but shake in excitement, this was going simply perfect.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crouching on top of the building, you turned down and watched all the people walk by like a flowing river, it was amazing how many people could constantly keep going in the same direction, but society was really just a one way river anyway.
Peering through your high tech binoculars, you frowned in agitation, still not finding that unmistakable patch of green locks you were looking for, tearing the item from your face, you glared into your watch, almost feeling like screaming in anger seeing the time, 11:47, time was fucking running out, and you could not miss this deadline.
Reaching into your backpack, you pulled out your beloved guns and checked their ammo, finding them as full as you did half a hour ago, giving one of them a good luck kiss, you stared up into the sky, finding your eyes straying to the pride of the entire city, the heart tower.
It was just a simple tower, but apparently since it symbolized the love this town had the habit of uncovering daily, it became a treasured landmark, how cute, bringing your binoculars back to your face, you turned back to the streets below, barely being able to contain yourself seeing the silhouette of the man you've been waiting on.
He was wearing a crappy fake beard and a pair of dark sunglasses, but that grassy hair of his was enough to convince you, picking up your twin guns, you pointed them as you activated the targeting on the binoculars.
But then that feeling came back again, the one that made you feel uneasy, it was strange, everything was going your way, he was about to be up and freaking sniped, oblivious to everything around him, so why? Why did you feel like you were actively being pushed into a corner? Ignoring it, you patiently waited as the binoculars zoomed in on him.
The guns were definitely pointing right at his vitals, all you were waiting on was for your binoculars to focus on his figure, the blurred image of him wasn't satisfying enough, you wanted to see him clearly when you struck him dead.
The image cleared, and everything after just happened all at once, as soon as his frame was perfectly sighted, you instinctively moved to pull the triggers, but as soon as you saw his face, the clock hands in your eyes momentarily froze in shock, even from under that cheap, white beard of his, you understood everything in a snap, you've been setup, the damn fucker was your soulmate.
Reacting fast, not wanting to actually kill your own soulmate, you tilted the guns, feeling a lump form in your throat as two sickening gunshots echoed throughout the street, effectively frightening the masses to run and scatter, immediately looking to where he was, you deflated in relief seeing that you indeed missed, but you tensed up once again when his head raised up to make eye contact with yours.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zoro's eyes widened in shock, no doubt about it, the girl up there was her, seeing the unmistakable clock hands in her eyes, it was the gunslinger, although his mind was too busy registering the fact that he was actually staring right at his destined soulmate, like damn, that girl was his? The greenie was always expecting his soulmate to be more...well, different.
She wasn't bad, she was far from it, she was in fact even more than he was hoping for as a young boy, seeing the hard fire burn in those clock eyes as the breeze beautifully made her locks dance around, but did he really deserve her? Could he actually protect someone as troublesome as her?
Shaking his head around, Zoro chased away those thoughts, of course he was capable of being worthy of her, he was going to be the best damn swordsman out there, if he couldn't take care of a single sexy, cold hearted, sly woman, then how was he going to do that? Finally coming to terms with it, he looked back up again to find her gone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shoving the pistols back into the bag, you hauled it over your shoulder even before you started to take off, you knew what was coming next, he was going to chase you, he was going to go after you and keep you as his own, fuck that! You belonged to nobody, there was no need for a guy in sexy armor here.
But your heart wasn't listening to your mind, turning your head around, subconsciously hoping to see him gaining on you, the vacant roof made you suddenly slow down to a stop, feeling your shoulders droop in disappointment, he wasn't there, did he not want you after all?
Even though you convinced yourself you didn't want him, your heart still sputtered in agony, clutching onto your shirt, it almost felt like a heart attack, dammit, you didn't need him, shit, you didn't need him, but you did, you really did, but you couldn't admit that, you were a strong independent-"hey woman"- holy shit.
Swirling around before freezing up in shock, you stared up into his almost enchanting hard eyes, feeling drowned in their simple glare, god dammit you really needed to pull yourself together and teach this fucker a lesson while you were at it, "where do you think you're going?" His voice suddenly became threatening and husky, very different then just a moment ago, causing the clock hands in your eyes to jolt by faster.
But you were fucking (L/N) (Y/N), god forbid you showed fear in front of other losers, especially this guy with the most handsome build you've ever done see, "I'm going to work, my prey just got away thanks to you, that grass head of your's done went and distracted me" you cleverly lied, there wasn't a chance in hell you would tell him the target was him, especially now that you knew the job was a setup.
Pulling on your shades from your backpack's front pocket, you began to walk directly away from him until a hand grabbed ahold of your wrist, reacting instantly from the touch, you twisted the offending appendage and hauled it over your shoulder, causing the body attached to it to go flying over your back and onto the ground below.
"Gah! W-What's wrong with you woman!?" Narrowing your eyes at his death glare, you simply crossed your arms in annoyance, how dare this man talk to you like this? As he went on and on about how much you ticked him off, you suddenly broke eye contact, reaching your hands out, trying to catch an invisible fly, "h-hey! Are you listening to me bi-" "wait, there's something flying around here-oh wait!" Seemingly grabbing what ever it was, you whistled, flipping him off, "oh look, it's a bird, and oh look!" Whistling again, you pulled up your other middle finger, "here's another one, coming your way" seeing the pure anger on his face wanted to make you bust a gut laughing.
"I'm going to kill you!" Standing up again, Zoro grabbed ahold of one of his beloved blades, making you instinctively start booking it out of there like a bat from hell, yolo! He may have wanted to murder you but you totally didn't regret anything, though you may have wanted to think twice when he began to give chase.
