Killer X Blind, Shy Reader
It sucked when you lost your sight, but learning how to use observation haki made life easier. Killer and the rest of the Kid pirates were a huge help as well. After a huge fire tore through your village and decimated everything a few years ago, they found you. The fire had completely ruined your eyes and you were left wandering the ruins of what was once home, singing to keep yourself from breaking down.
While the rest of the people in the town were gone or dead as far as you knew, the Kid pirates had wandered along. They were drawn inland by the need to restock supplies and pure curiosity for where the singing came from. It worked in your favor in the long run. Kid decided he could use someone with a good voice on the ship to keep things interesting and dragged you along against your will.
It was hard at first. You had no idea about haki or how to use it so you were truly blind. There'd been more times that you'd almost fallen overboard than you could count. You needed a lot of help getting the layout of the ship figured out and sometimes people would play pranks on you when you first joined. Now all that wouldn't have been so bad if you had an easier time talking to people.
You were, unfortunately, terribly shy. That meant dealing with all the strangers was almost impossible for you. And with as gruff and rude most of them were, it was even harder. But you had one saving grace. The jarring change in your life was made a little easier for you by some of the higher ups on the ship, but mostly one in particular.
Killer.
Any time someone on the crew picked on you, he chewed them out. Whenever you'd stumble or get a bit lost, he'd get you righted and going where you needed to be. Killer even helped you learn how to use and control your haki so you wouldn't need help so much whether you were on the ship or out and about on an island. He may be a pirate, but Killer was easily the nicest one you'd ever met.
Now you'd never actually seen what he looked like. But your haki gave you an idea of his silhouette. You'd learned he had blonde hair and blue eyes, but that was about all he'd say about his features. He let you know when he got a pretty nasty wound on his arm and that it'd scarred. That was around the same time Kid lost his arm.
Still, even though he was stingy on details about himself, he had no problem being more thorough about telling you how others on the ship looked or filling you in on other things that he thought might interest you. It was sweet really. Just a few days ago he called you up on deck to describe a sunset for you.
The problem was, he'd been so nice to you the entire time you'd been a part of the crew and you'd slowly started developing a crush on him. While it had gotten easier to talk with him and the rest of the crew, admitting to having feelings for him was totally different. You couldn't bring yourself to do it. You'd tried. More than once.
Each time ended more embarrassingly than the last. You'd stumble over your words, catch yourself fiddling with your hands, lose track of your thoughts. The last time you tried bringing it up with him you even tripped up and fell flat on your face before he could catch you. It was an absolute disaster.
"Wrong way (Y/n)." You were met with Killer's deep voice as he tugged you by the collar and faced you in the right direction.
"O-oh, sorry Killer. Guess I wasn't paying attention." You smiled sheepishly and used your haki to better lead you off the ship.
It had stopped at a deserted island the crew had been to once before. You were a part of the crew at the time but still were adjusting to being blind and chose to stay on the ship. Now Killer was being his usual kind self and offered to take you around some of the interesting places. And if course you were more than happy to spend any kind of time with him and took him up on the offer. Part of you was hoping to gather the courage to try admitting your feelings to him.
"There's these interesting ruins not far off. They look kinda like a part of some open air temple." He took your hand and started leading you through some woods.
His calloused hand was warm as it enveloped yours and you welcomed it gladly. It made it easier to navigate through the trees and gave you a great excuse to touch him. Perfect.
"That sounds cool." You chirped, trying to to take in your surroundings while keeping up with Killer's much longer strides. He had legs for days.
"Wait till we get there, I know you'll love it."
He sounded too focused on leading you to actually be staring at your face. That was a good thing, you could feel the color rising up your face at his comment and excited tone.
The rest of the walk was filled with him telling you were to watch your footing and you singing little tunes to help pass the time. Killer hummed along occasionally. He never did that around the crew but when it was just you and him, he was willing to show his softer side.
You assumed you reached your destination when he came to a stop. When you stepped forward on your own, fingers slipping out of Killer's grasp, your feet hit stone and sent a few pebbles scattering.
"What's it look like Killer?" You asked as you came into contact with a hard, cool surface. It was covered in cracks and when it hit about waist high it was rough, jagged like it had broken off.
"That's a column there. There's a whole line of them going down to your left."
Your head twisted to the side like you might magically see them. It'd been years since you lost your sight but old habits die hard.
"If you go further in...." His voice came closer, right by your ear. It was low and sultry without him even meaning for it to come out that way. "it's pretty open. I think there used to be a statue of some kind here but it's long gone. And it's open up top, not much of a roof."
You walked along, trusting that it was an open space with Killer following close by just in case you needed help. Maybe you couldn't see any of it, but you still wanted to get an idea of the space. He gave you a bit more room when you reached a side of the building and were able to use the columns to guide you around it's perimeter.
There were no walls blocking out the elements and you could feel the small, sudden gusts of wind flowing through the place, sending pebbles and dust tumbling about.
Your hands came into contact with something softer as you found another column. It rustled under your touch and if you trailed along it, you could feel it wrapping around the stone. Ivy.
"It's pretty overgrown." Killer commented when he saw you linger. "There's more plants than stone if you go further that way."
"It must look nice." You murmured, painting a mental image of the place from what you've been told so far.
"It does."
"I don't think Kid would appreciate it."
Killer sighed. "He'd turn the rest of this to rubble for shits and giggles if he found it."
"I'm glad you found it Killer." You smiled, sure he'd see it.
"Hold on!" He tried to stop you from stepping forward, but wasn't close enough.
You were too focused on him to notice the large piece of stone at your feet and stumbled over it, trying your best to catch yourself.
While Killer wasn't fast enough to stop you from tripping, he was able to keep you from landing face first on the floor. He snatched the back of your shirt and jerked you back up, too intent on saving your face to worry about being gentle.
You let out a surprised yelp as you were met with a firm, broad chest.
"That wouldn't have been pretty." He noted.
This was much closer than you planned to get to him and it had you blushing. You could feel the warmth radiating off of him in waves and here you were debating trying another attempt at a confession. Until the whole almost falling part. Now you weren't sure if you could focus. But maybe it was worth a shot, it couldn't be much worse than the last few attempts.
Killer released you, letting you step back and breathe in air that didn't smell heavily of him. It was enough to help you regain a little of your confidence.
"Hum, Killer?" Your voice shook a tad bit it was a good start.
"What's up?"
"I-its been a few years since I joined the crew..."
"It has."
"And I uh, still don't know how you look."
"I've told you (Y/n)."
"Hardly." You pouted.
"....Did you want to know more?"
"Are you...are you offering?" You were hopeful.
The one way you'd been able to actually know how others on the crew looked was by touching them. It was odd for some so you had no clue how most of the men looked for the longest time. But eventually they'd let you piece together their appearances by letting you feel along their faces. Even Kid had begrudgingly let you do that. Everyone but Killer.
You knew he had a mask in the way and no one had seen his face because of it but you'd always hoped he'd make an exception for you. Either because of your blindness or, by some miracle, he returned your feelings.
"Sure, can't tell anyone about it though." He grabbed your hand and led you off in one direction. "They'd never let me hear the end of it."
"No one would make fun of you." You huffed. The crew would be too terrified of the consequences, he'd tear into them.
"Not if I don't give them a reason to." He stopped and you felt the air around him shift as he sat down.
Killer must have found a piece of stone that was good enough to double as a seat. He moved you around, positioning you between his legs and muttering for you to stay still. There was a soft click as he unlatched his helmet followed by scrapes as he set it on the ground beside him.
"Okay." He took your hands in his and guided them to his face, letting them rest along his jaw before releasing you.
Your heart was beating like crazy, excited and nervous with the chance he'd presented to you. The first thing you noticed was how soft his skin was. There was the feeling of slight stubble lining the edge of his jaw down to his goatee you didn't know he had. It all prickled at your fingers but the sensation faded as you went further up, tracing the contours of his lips, the gradual rise of his cheekbones.
His eyes fluttered closed, brushing his eyelashes along your thumbs so you'd be able to feel along his eyes and nose. All his features felt strong, masculine, and perfect. There were no hints of scarring or disfigurement and you were finally able to figure out what he really looked like.
"Happy?" He rumbled, amused.
"Oh, um, yeah actually."
You were ready to pull away, suddenly very conscious of how close you were, when Killer placed a hand back over one of yours.
"I've been thinking..." He said. "You haven't seen yourself in years."
"N-no, I haven't."
"That's a shame. You're beautiful, especially when you get all flustered like now."
He had you at a loss for words. You could feel your cheeks heating up and your mouth moving without any sounds coming out. You were thoroughly embarrassed, he could read you like a book and you couldn't do anything to prevent it.
"I-I uh, I should go." You managed to squeak out as you tried to pull away.
"No, stay put." Killer insisted tugging around your waist. "I wasn't planning on scaring you away."
"Killer I–"
He held your face in a hand, still holding you in place with the other around your middle as his lips pressed against yours. It was a quick kiss, more of a peck on the lips but it did the job. In that short moment, all you could think about was his mouth on yours, his breath fanning against your skin, and then he pulled away.
"Confessions are hard, aren't they?" He mused.
"How did you...?"
"You aren't hard to figure out, I've known for some time and thought this would be a good place for it."
"So you...like me too?"
"I don't think I would have kissed you if I didn't." Of course he was going to tease you now.
"Well you don't have to be mean about it." You huffed.
"Alright, alright." He bent you down closer for another small kiss. "Are we wanting to stay around here a little longer? I can keep my mask off."
The invitation was clear as day and you weren't going to let this pass you up.
"Yeah, that'd be nice..if that's okay."
It took too long to get to this point with him, but the way he kissed you made it well worth the wait. You didn't have to see the man to know how he felt for you and things couldn't have been more perfect in that moment.
