Work had kept him out late once again. You never understood how he had the energy to trail people all day, connecting leads and apprehending perps. With particularly big cases it was common to not see each other for more than a few days, a pile of dirty laundry the only affirmation that he'd even been home.

Quietly he placed his keys on the hook by the door and removed his coat tossing it over the back of one of the dining room chairs. Making his way to the kitchen he found a container in the fridge with his name and a bunch of hearts scrolled across the lid in your handwriting. A small smile bent his lips as he shook his head at your silliness. You never failed to make him feel loved, even on the rare occasions when you fought.

I know I shouldn't boy but
Let's have another pour
That moon makes me thirsty for wine

Not even bothering to warm his food he stood at the counter wolfing it down and throwing back a bottle of beer. It had been a long day with no time for any real break. He chuckled thinking about how you'd scold him if you caught him hunched over eating cold leftovers at two in the morning. Rinsing the container and tossing the empty bottle in the trash, he turned toward your shared room already unbuttoning his shirt.

And I said, "Would you look at that, I think I love your body"

His umber gaze drank in your sleeping form in the soft moonlight filtered through the blinds across the room. Your soft adorable snores signaled your deep sleep, so he could continue undressing without fear of waking you. Once undressed he slipped between the sheets settling on his left side. Feeling the mattress dip, you unconsciously shifted from your stomach to face him. His eye adjusted to the dim natural light allowing him to gaze at your face, cheeks lightly flushed, lips deliciously parted. It felt like ages since he'd had this privilege. Now being so close it was hard not to touch you, even if that meant waking you up.

Let's have another go
We'll learn something we didn't know
I'll be your distraction a while

Feeling someone's gaze on you, you stirred slowly peeking through your lashes to see your fiancé staring back at you. His left arm tucked under his pillow as his right shifted to brush your hair behind your ear.

"Hey greenie." you smiled sleepily.
He mirrored your expression letting his hand linger over your cheek, "I didn't mean to wake you."
"S'ok." you yawned wiggling closer.

These afternoons move slow
Don't have no place to go
And the company we keep is so kind

He reached out pulling you into his chest frowning when you pulled back.

"Zoro," you started, a hint of curiosity in your tone, "...when was the last time you showered."
He grimaced, an embarrassed flush creeping up his neck, "I didn't want to wake you up."
Pushing the blankets aside you began to get out of bed, "Let's go."
A wolfish grin replaced his embarrassment, "Let's?"

You rolled your eyes turning on the bedside lamp to find a rubber band. Zoro watched you tie your hair up in a messy bun before standing and entering the adjoining bathroom. He followed once the water started, losing his boxers along the way.

He rounded the corner as you removed his t-shirt you'd stolen for bed, his good eye trailing up the curve of your bare back stopping at the rebellious strands of hair tickling your nape. You reached under the shower head testing the temperature before turning to meet his gaze, an adoring simper bending your perfect lips. You were half expecting him to say something lewd or slap your ass, which was usually what you experienced in this situation, however you were met with the most loving expression.

Maybe we'll take our time
And for the moment you'll be mine

You stepped into the shower your greenette following close behind. He stood under the water reeling you in to share the warmth. Realizing he'd forgotten something very important he bent down and gently kissed your lips. You reciprocated, waves of amorous affection flowing between the two of you.

"Sorry for being away so much." he murmured grazing your jaw.
You tilted your chin up allowing him more access, "I know what I signed up for."

I know you play all the right cards
And when the day is done

His arms wound around you as he rested against the crook of your neck. At any point, you could have given up and walked out because of his ridiculous schedule or his tired prickly attitude. An insecure voice deep inside always tried to convince him that you'd be gone.

I'll try and pack up and be gone
We'll see if I make it past the yard

You brought your hand up to caress the scar that marred the left side of his face. He hummed leaning into your touch.

"The water is going to get cold." your voice pulled him from his thoughts.

And I said, "Would you look at that, I think I love your body"

You both went through the motions of showering and stepped out to dry off with your respective towels. Before you could slip into a clean shirt Zoro scooped you up and dropped you into the mattress. He leaned over you capturing your lips softly, his tongue greeting yours as he deepened the kiss. You hummed letting him have his way as your hands made their way to his still damp hair.

His lips moved from yours to pepper your face in sweet kisses.

"Thank you for loving me."
