Confusion
Luffy was hanging upside down on a tree limb. He had his arms crossed across his chest and he was watching the fight between Tra-guy and fruit punch man. His face was steadily getting more and more impatient as the battle dragged on that he resorted to annoying Law as he fought against Usui.
"Tra-guy..." Luffy said as the person in question did a complicated flip to dodge perilous projectiles. "If there are jellyfish, do you think there could be peanut butter fish?"
Usui smiled in amusement at the question and Law's eyes widened at the gesture, but had to throw himself to the side to avoid being impaled. Both of them couldn't use potent techniques for their own reasons. Usui couldn't kill him because of orders from a higher position, and Law... let's say he just didn't have the mental preparation to kill Sin.
Although, Usui was not afraid to hurt the older man. When Law made a mistake of remaining in the transparent cube field, he almost lost an arm to Usui's power. He quickly switched himself with an entire tree and a part of the plant's trunk was blown off. Law had managed to cut off one of Usui's arms but before he could finish the other one off, Usui flew right into his face and Trafalgar had to focus on parrying the sword's attack.
"Oh!" Luffy flipped off the tree branch and landed on his feet. "What about fire melon? Like watermelon, but fire. That would be so cool!"
"Mugiwara-ya," Law said, his eye twitching. "You are literally going to be the death of me."
"Hm?" Luffy tilted his head as Usui lunged out to slice at Law's chest. "What do you mean?"
Law mentally sighed. Both his and Usui's room flickered out of existence and their fight became more physical. The clash and clang of metal on hardened blood, heavy breaths and close calls. Frustration and impatience.
"Oi, Tra-guy," Luffy said, walking toward their battle. "If you don't hurry up, Sanji will come back and you won't be able to concentrate."
I'm already unable to concentrate, but not because of Cook-ya.
He saw Luffy do something from the corner of his eye and he grew panicked. Jumping aside at the last second, Luffy's third gear armament bulleting towards Usui. A huge crash and a cloud of dust rose from the clearing, large enough for the crew back at the Sunny Go to see.
Luffy's arm deflated and it whipped back to its original length. He chuckled in accomplishment and grinned at Trafalgar, who sweatdropped. Maybe he was wrong about thinking that this guy had any respect for other people's battles.
"You didn't need to do that."
"I was getting bored just watching."
Usui picked himself up from the crater Luffy had made and dusted off his clothes. He was bleeding, actually bleeding, from open wounds that he had gotten from both Law and Luffy.
He shook with excitement and his eyes glinted. "Fun! Really fun! What's your name?"
"Monkey D. Luffy. The man who's going to become the pirate king!" Luffy said with a straight face.
"Oh?" Usui sneered. "You've made an interesting friend, aniki."
"Aniki?" Luffy blinked.
Law gave him meaningful glance. "We aren't brothers by blood."
"Mmm," Luffy nodded in understanding. "Can I kick his butt?"
"We need him to heal Nami," Law said, "so, no."
"He's the one who made her faint..." Luffy pouted.
"Eh?" Usui tilted his head. "I hurt someone?"
"Geez you're a forgetful kid!" Luffy said. "Did you hit your head?"
"If that were the case, it would've been because of your attack, Mugiwara-ya," Law said, suddenly sounding exhausted. "But that's not the reason."
"Oh!" Usui's eyes sparkled at the sight of Law. "Law no aniki! Where have you been?"
"Huuuuuh?" Luffy squawked, arching an eyebrow. "He's been here! You were attacking him!"
Usui laughed at his words, making Luffy fill his cheeks with air. "That would be suicide! Me? Fight Law no Aniki?"
"Like I said!" a vein popped out of Luffy's forehead. "You were—"
"Where have you been... aniki?" Usui's eyes shadowed.
"Mph?" Luffy's expression slackened.
"Why did you leave me alone...?"
Law's head hung and Luffy gave him a questioning look.
Usui's head popped up and Luffy was taken aback by the expression of hurt and betrayal on his face.
"Why!?" Usui charged at Law with a battle cry.
Luffy punched the boy in the gut with his Haki and meeting the boy's hurt eyes with his own stoic ones, Luffy let him fall to the ground.
"I know it's none of my business," Luffy mumbled as Sanji and Zoro came running up to them, "but."
A breeze ruffled through their hair and clothes, Law staring at the fallen Usui.
"Is he alright in the head?" Luffy inquired, causing Law to sag a little in exasperation.
"Hm?" Luffy frowned at his reaction.
_ Back at Sunny
"This little chibi caused that much trouble?" Franky asked in disbelief.
The rest had returned to the ship, Usui limply hanging under Zoro's arm. Zoro dropped him roughly down on the deck of the ship and stretched his sore muscles. Sanji went back to check on Nami and Luffy crouched down and began to poke Usui's cheek repeatedly.
"Have Chopper-ya take a look at him and when he wakes up, ask him to do a favor and cure Nami-ya," Law said, heading to the dorms. "As long as you don't mention my name there won't be any chaos."
"Oi," Zoro said from his sleeping spot. "You still haven't explained anything."
"Oh!" Caesar said after scrutinizing Usui's face. "Vallene! You've come to rescue me!"
"Use your eyes will you?" Usopp said, cross legged on a barrel. "He's knocked out."
"Not for long," Caesar grinned knowingly and snickered at Law who had paused in the middle of the doorway. "Your name is taboo. Isn't it...? L—"
Law's death glare made him clamp his mouth shut and shiver in fear.
"Somebody gag him and don't let Usui see him," was Law's last order before disappearing below deck.
Usopp did it grudgingly after realizing nobody on deck was able to or wanted to get their butts up. Luffy kept poking Usui's cheek and Zoro started snoring. Franky raised the anchor and cast off.
Chopper and Brook exited the infirmary and spotting Luffy and Usui, went down to stand over them.
"Who's this person, Luffy-san?" Brook asked.
"The person who made Nami sick and also the person who's going to cure her," Luffy said, looking up at the skeleton.
"Eeeeeeeh?!" Chopper said, hiding behind Brook's long legs. "What-what-what is he doing on the ship?!"
"How is he supposed to help Nami-san?" Brook questioned. "Even Chopper-san has no idea what's wrong with her."
"It just looks like she's in a coma," Chopper trembled. "I don't know how to treat her without knowing the side effects."
"I don't get it myself," Luffy leaned back, his hands on the floor. "But Tra-guy just said to ask him when he wakes up."
Just then, Usui started to stir. Chopper shrieked and ran to stand next to Franky at the wheel. Luffy stared while Usui sat up and rubbed his eyes. He blinked the sleep out of his eyes and looked around.
Luffy's face was suddenly right in front of his.
"Uh... hello?" Usui sweatdropped.
"Hmmmm...." Luffy said thoughtfully. "Hmmmmmm..."
"Where am I?" Usui asked. He blinked when he saw black shoes in front of him. He looked up the long legs and saw a skeleton face. Usui's eyes became little dots as he stared at Brook.
"Yo ho ho ho!" Brook chortled.
"Gyaaaaaaahhhh!"
The ship shook from the scream and Usui scrambled back on all fours to get away from Brook.
"Oi, oi!" Franky tilted his head back to look at the others. "Don't scream so suddenly! You made the ship jump!"
"Keeeeeeeh!" Usui's eyes popped out of his head. "Are you a robot?!"
"I'm a suuuuuuppppperrrrrr cyborg hentai!" Franky said posing.
"A cyborg?! And..." Usui stared at Brook again, narrowing his eyes.
Brook looked over at him and Usui screamed again.
"It just moved!"
"How rude!" Brook said, looking a bit insulted. "I've been moving for quite a while!"
"That's what's bothering you?!" Usopp and Chopper yelled.
"Anyways!" Luffy dragged Usui by the upper arm. "You need to heal Nami!"
"Wait! This is a lot to take in!" Usui said, struggling in his grip. "And who is this Nami person?!"
"Shut up and heal her!" Luffy said, kicking open the infirmary door and throwing Usui in.
"You...!" Sanji growled, his chair falling back after standing up.
Usui gave Luffy an irritate look before looking down at the orange haired woman. Sighing through his nose, he raised his arm and his hand hung loosely.
"Room," a cube shaped sheen surrounded them and Sanji grabbed the boy by his collar.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Sanji said threateningly.
"I'm healing her..." Usui said, frightened by Sanji's reaction.
Sanji's eyes widened at how scared he made the boy and took a step back.
"Sorry. My bad... don't look at me like that..." Sanji apologized.
After glancing at Sanji hesitantly, he flicked his fingers and scanned Nami's body with a single hand. He had his eyes closed, concentrating. His hand paused at her head and he opened his eyes.
Flicking his fingers in a certain pattern, he took a deep breath.
"Palisade," he jerked his hand and it cracked with every movement. "Ameliorate!"
Nami's eyes flew open and she took a sharp intake of breath.
"Nami-swan!" Sanji pirouetted over to her bedside and his eye was replace by a heart. "Yokata!"
Her eyes travelled from Sanji to a smiling Luffy to Usui, who was giving her a closed eyed smile. Her pupils dilated and she reached for her clima tact to attack him. Sanji held her back by placing a hand on the metal of the weapon. She gave him an infuriated look but he shook his head.
"He doesn't seem to mean any harm, Nami-san," Sanji said, though looking a bit uncertain. "He's the one that healed you."
"I'm Usui," the boy held out a hand. "Nice to meet you."
"Waaaa..." Usopp said, appearing in the doorway. "Déjà vu moment."
"Usopp," Nami said.
"Good to see you awake, Nami," Usopp grinned.
"That's all you wanted from me, right?" Usui headed to the exit. "I'm leaving now."
"No," Luffy said, standing in front of the door.
"No? Is there someone else I need to look over?"
"No."
"Eh?" Usui sweatdropped.
"You're a devil fruit user right?" Sanji said. "We're already on the sea. You won't be able to go anywhere."
"What?!" Usui pushed passed Luffy and ran to the back of the ship. All he saw was open sea and a vast blue sky. He sank to his knees, still hanging off the side. "This is bad..."
Luffy, Brook, Chopper, and Robin joined him, every single one of them had their guard up.
"Isn't there anyway for you guys to go back?!" Usui said desperately.
"No," Nami appeared around the corner with Sanji. Her gaze calculating. "We only stumbled upon the island because L—"
Usopp quickly covered her mouth. "Don't say his name!"
"Why not!?" Nami said after slapping away his hand.
"It's taboo!" Usopp whispered. "It's why he was crazy on the island."
"Huuuuh?!"
Luffy took a few steps forward and Usui gave him a look.
.
.
.
Luffy took a deep breath and yelled: "TRAFALGAR LAW!"
"Luffy!" everyone excluding Robin strained.
There was an overwrought pause as Usui's eyes shadowed. Everyone shifted into their fighting stances and Luffy never took his eyes off the boy.
"Heehe," Usui giggled. "Room."
A cube shaped barrier surrounded them and Usui lifted his head to reveal his face contorted in lunacy.
"Usopp!" Luffy yelled.
"Got it!" he loaded his slingshot and aimed. "Take this! Surefire Kill! Sea Stone handcuffs!"
They flew out of the slingshot and wrapped around Usui's wrists, then the other side clinked on the railing. Usui's room flickered weakly as he panted and struggled to move. He glared at the Straw Hats with one eye and raised a hand.
"Mael—"
"Room!" somebody said roughly.
"Strom!" Usui finished.
"Shambles!" Law said at the same time.
But just as he said it barrels replaced the Straw Hats and they materialized behind Law. Usui looked weakly up at him as the Sea Stone cuffs drained him and his room vanished.
"Law..." he said hoarsely. "Doffy... wants..."
Law turned his back on him and walked away. Usui's vision blurred and Law's retreating figure was mixing with a past reflection. A smaller figure, with a round rimmed hat and a white shirt bordered with black.
"Aniki... Law no Aniki..." Usui said breathlessly, barely heard by the others. But Law heard and he gritted his teeth.
The two figures, the present day Law and the Law that had been in Usui's memory, merged together.
"You're leaving... again?" Usui asked softly. "Leaving... me... alone..."
The Straw Hats stared at him as he struggled to move, his whole body shaking from the strain.
"We almost died..." Chopper said, sitting down and sighing in relief.
"Gosh... what did Tra-guy do to him that made him like this?" Usopp wondered.
"We better keep him like that," Nami said. "As a precaution, nobody approach him."
After a pitying gaze from most of the crew, they left the boy alone. Luffy stayed behind and did exactly the opposite of what Nami had said.
He sat down, cross legged, and Usui looked up at him.
"Who are you?"
"Monkey D. Luffy. The man who's going to become Pirate King," Luffy didn't hesitate.
"I feel like I've heard that before..."
"Ah," Luffy agreed.
"Where am I?"
"On the Thousand Sunny. The ship of the Straw Hat crew."
Usui's head hung limply and he didn't even try to keep himself up.
"What am I doing here?"
"To heal Nami."
This went on until Luffy answered every single one of his questions, even if he had already answered the question a few moments before.
_
Usopp frowned as he listened in, leaning against a wall. After a few minutes, he got to his feet and went into the boys' dorm where Law was laying in his hammock. His hands behind his head and staring at the ceiling.
"Did Luffy say if he hated or like Usui after we left?" Usopp asked after he had walked up to Law.
"What?" Law said dully.
"Luffy usually has an opinion on everybody he meets," Usopp explained. "He either likes or hates them."
"He didn't say."
Usopp hmmed in thought. "Maa, we know he wants the guy on the ship and we really can't do anything to change his mind."
Law stared at the sniper. Usopp now headed to the door.
"It would be nice if you told us the whole story," Usopp said from the door. "But we can't force you to. Just remember our Captain is really stubborn."
The door closed behind him and the room was engulfed in darkness again.
