You're More Than Super
"Hey. You awake?"
Robin perked up to the vibrating of her phone. It was about 1 in the morning and she was in the middle of a really interesting book.
She did this often, staying up until really late, just reading a book. Or not get any sleep at all, for that matter. Call it a bad habit. She was just curious as to why Franky was still awake at this time. Is something wrong?
"Yes, I am. Is something the matter?"
It took a minute for a response.
"Nah. Everything is super super! Just wanna know if you wanna do something tomorrow."
Of course she did, but it was rather strange to ask so early on a Friday morning. What reason would he have to not just ask her at school?
"Sure, what did you have in mind?"
"Well, my buddy, Iceberg is having a party and I thought maybe you'd wanna go?"
Oh, a party. Hmm.
Robin wasn't too big on parties, or any big social gathering for that matter. Whenever she happened to show up, she would always be that one person to just go to a party and lean against the wall dinking soda, not talking to anybody.
We all know that person.
It was like that, until she met Franky. Franky showed her that it was okay to express yourself and interact with people and make friends. Put your ideas and thoughts out there! No matter how...bizarre they were.
"Yes, I'd love to go to a party with you."
"SUPER!! I'll pick you up at 6 tomorrow. Goodnight, love ya!"
"Yes, goodnight. I love you too."
A party, huh? I wonder if everyone else will be there as well.
A little too deep in her thoughts to focus on the book, she decided to go to sleep.
A few hours later, Robin got ready for school and walled downstairs to get some breakfast.
Once, reaching the kitchen, Robin spotted her mother, Olvia doing some research.
"Good morning, mother."
Olvia turned and smiled. "Good morning, sweetheart. How did you sleep, or were you up all night reading a book?" She asked with a light giggle.
"Yes, I was actually. Sorry, I sort of lost track of time."
"Hmm, I don't mind too much, I just hope it's not interfering with your studies."
Yup, that was always Olvia's main concern. Whether Robin was successful in her academics or not. She had always seen her daughter as an overachiever and raised her as such. In other words, Olvia was one of those parents who chewed you out for having a 'C' on your report card.
"Yes, mother, I still take my studies very seriously." Robin reassured.
"Good. That's what I like to hear."
"Actually, mother... Franky invited me to a party tomorrow. May I go, please?"
"Franky huh?..."
Olvia remembered when Robin first introduced her new boyfriend, about a year ago. She was a bit fazed by how noisy and reckless he seemed at first, them realized that he was incredibly reliable.
Since Olvia was a single, working mother, there were many things in the house that needed to be fixed, but very little time to do it.
So when Franky showed up that day, and fixed every broken thing in under 15 minutes, she was extremely astonished.
He had informed them that he worked in a nearby mechanic with his adopted father and brother. So this stuff was like SUPER easy. According to him.
She took a second to respond. "Sure, I have no problems with that. Just remember to be here at an appropriate time. No drinking. And definitely no sex."
Robin chuckled at that last part. Her mother always listed the same things whenever she would go somewhere with Franky. Call it a mother's habit or whatever, but I think we all know that Robin's smart enough to stray away from temptations. Twas how she was raised after all.
"Right, yes mother. You can count on me."
Robin finished her breakfast and got her things ready to go.
"I'll see you later, bye." Robin waved.
"Alright, baby. Stay safe and do your work. I love you."
Robin locked the door and walked down the front steps. Not even two seconds later, Franky pulls up in his old, convertible mustang.
"Morning, Mama! You look super beautiful today."
He got out and opened the door for her. Robin found this rather odd. Not that she was complaining, but she was capable of opening a door by herself.
"Why, how sweet. Thank you."
"Anything for you, baby!"
They both got into the car and drove off.
Franky was really tense most of the ride and it made things incredibly awkward. What the heck is going on? Did Robin miss something?
"So a party, huh? That sounds fun." Robin said desperately trying to lighten the mood.
"Huh?... Oh yeah! The party! Yeah, it'll be SUPER FUN! You can go right?"
"Yes I'll be going... As long as you're there." She flirted.
"Oh I love you, Mama, come here!" Franky reached over to Robin's side, resulting in him almost swerving into a mailbox.
Once they reached school, they said their sweet goodbyes and went to their homerooms.
Robin shared the same first period with her friends, Nami and Vivi.
"So, are the two of you going to the party tomorrow?"
They both tensed for a moment and passed each other glances before answering:
"Yeah! We'll be there!"
"Definitely!"
What's going on? Everyone is acting so secretive... For what?
Robin went about her day, finding out that all her friends will be in attendance at the party tomorrow. Just how big was this party? If everyone was going, it must be pretty huge.
The last bell had rang, dismissing everyone to go home. Robin met her boyfriend outside and drove off.
"So, Baby, how was your day?" He started.
"It was alright. Everyone was acting rather strange today, had something happened?"
Franky tensed up and paused before answering her.
"What? Nah, nothing happened! Hey, you wanna see a movie? We can see whichever one you want."
Well he sure change the subject fast. What the heck?
"Alright. I've been wanting to see that movie War Dogs for a while."
"Well that's what we're gonna do."
They drove down to the theater, bought tickets and popcorn, and chose their seats. Franky tried to be smooth and do that yawing arm wrap trick, which only caused Robin to have a fit of giggles, while he was still at her side with a stupid look of accomplishment on his face as the movie started. How pathetic.
Anyway, as the movie played on, Franky would just have abrupt weeping fits about not so sad parts of the story, much to people's dismay.
When the movie ended, they walked out. Franky still wailing, blowing nasty snot all over Robin's handkerchief. Good thing she had several others for moments like these. One could never be too prepared.
"That was really nice. Thank you." Robin looked up at him with sweet eyes, causing him to suddenly stop crying.
"Awe! Anything for you, baby!"
He leaned down to her level to give a sweet, long kiss. When they separated, both their faces were red and hot. They turned away and exited the theater.
It was about 8:00 now and Olvia wanted Robin home by 8:45, so they decided to cut their night out a little short.
They hopped in the car and Franky drove her home.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow, baby. Dress SUPER nice, alright?"
"Sure, I'll see you tomorrow. I love you."
"I love you too."
She got out and entered her house to see her mother sitting on the couch waiting for her.
"So, I was thinking, if this party is so special, you should have a special outfit."
Robin stared at her, a bit confused for a minute, the her mother got up and walked to the closet in the nearby hall.
She pull out a sparkly, Prussian blue dress. One sleeve reached all the way down to her wrist and the other only stopped below her shoulder, like a tee-shirt. There was a split in the fabric that would expose her left leg. She also pulled out a pair of matching black sandal heels and handed everything to Robin.
"This was the dress I wore when I met your father. I know you'll look absolutely beautiful in it, and Franky will think so as well."
"Wha-... Uhh... Thank you, mother." Robin was just too stunned to ask any questions, so just excepted them gratefully.
"Well I'm a little tired. I'll see you tomorrow, baby. Make sure to get some sleep."
".... Uhhh- yeah, right! Goodnight, mother."
Robin looked back at the extravagant clothing in her hands and walked upstairs to her room. She put everything in her closet and sat at her desk.
'What's going on? This wasn't the first party I was going to. Just what in the world was I missing?'
She decided to subdue her thoughts by continuing the book she was reading earlier that morning.
Again, she was beginning to get a little too deep into the story when
*knock knock*.
"Just as I thought. Baby, tomorrow's a big day. You're gonna need your rest. Why don't you call it a night and hop into bed."
"Alright. Goodnight mother."
"Goodnight sweetheart."
Robin shut off the light and crawled into bed. What the hell, man?! What was she missing that was so important?!
---
The next morning, Robin woke up to a knock one her door. She looked to her clock and saw that it was about 10 in the morning. What? Robin would never allow herself to sleep this late.
"Robin? Oh good, you're awake. C'mon, I want to go shopping for some things."
Shopping? This early? Robin knew her mother loved to get things done early, but she would always save shopping for an afternoon task.
"Uuhh... Alright. I'll go get ready."
Robin got out of bed, took a shower, picked out some clothes, and walked downstairs to see her mother adjust her hair in the mirror next to the front door.
She spotted her from her reflection and smiled. "Well, don't you look nice. Did I buy you those clothes?"
Robin looked down at herself. She was wearing a black t-shirt with a white collar, a grey thigh-high skirt, black thigh socks, and a pair of black combat boots.
"No, Franky bought these for me. You really like them?"
"Of course, you look good. Franky really does take care of you, doesn't he."
Robin blushed and smiled at the floor. "Yes, he does."
"Well, as long as you're happy, I'm happy. Now, are you ready to go?"
"Oh, yes. Where are we going again?"
"Oh just here and there. You'll find out when we reach the place."
They both hopped in the car and drove off. Robin looked out of the window the entire ride, to busy getting lost in her own thoughts. Even her mother was acting strange. Ok, she had definitely missed something. Something important. Hmm. Maybe it was-.
"We're here. Come on, you must be hungry."
Robin's train of thought was once again derailed by her mother as she pulled up to the diner that she only went to on special occasions. They got out, took a couple of seats and waited for someone to take their order.
"Mother, what's going on? Everyone is acting so strange. Did I miss something?"
Her mother giggled. What was so funny? This is starting highly irritating. What is going on with everybody lately?!
"Nothing, baby. Everything is normal. Just relax and finish your pancakes."
Everything is normal? What a load of-
"Hey, what time is that party of yours?"
"Oh... around 6. Why?"
"Oh, no reason. Just calculating how much time I have to spend with you today before you leave."
What did she mean by that?
"Are you going somewhere, mother?"
"Yes, actually. They just called me to study some ruins in Egypt. I'll be gone for about 2 weeks. You'll be able to care for yourself until I get back, won't you?"
Olvia asked, reaching over the counter to caress her daughter's cheek.
"Of course, mother. Just remember to be carful, and come back safe."
Her mom chuckled. "That's my line, but don't worry, I always come back, don't I?"
Robin smiled. "Yes, yes you do."
They finished their breakfast, payed and drove to several grocery stores to stock up on Robin's favorite foods.
When they had finally made it home, it was 4:15 PM. Robin offered to put everything away but her mother insisted the she got ready for the party.
She went upstairs, took another shower, put on her dress and makeup and walked back down to the kitchen.
Once Olvia looked up, her entire face lit up with awe and amazement.
"You look absolutely, positively beautiful. More beautiful than I did in that dress."
They laughed together for some time until Olvia wanted to take some pictures. She took three with just robin and four with the both of them smiling to the camera.
They both sat at the table laughing and having small talk when a knock on the door interrupted them.
Robin opened the door to find an... Extremely sexy looking Franky standing in front of her. He was sporting a black button-up shirt with a white blazer and black shorts. On his feet were casual, run-of-the-mill sandals. Typical Franky.
"Wow! You look positively gorgeous! Just... Amazing." He had gotten lost in his words and started to just...stare. Robin started getting flustered and shuffled around where she stood.
Well this was starting to get awkward. Someone has to step in. As if on cue, Olvia emerged from the kitchen and stood next to her daughter. Franky was a little shocked to find an angry eyed mother suddenly pop up out of the blue, then quickly composed himself as to not look like a fool. As if that wasn't already accomplished.
"I know she looks breathtakingly gorgeous, but you don't have to stand there and gawk at her." Olvia scolded.
Franky immediately became embarrassed and rubbed the back of his neck, looking away. "You're right, I'm sorry. So, what time should I have her back."
"If I'm entrusting you with my only angel, I assume you already know the proper time in which she should be back." Olvia gave him a knowing look, which started some sweat to form on his brow.
"How about.... 10:30?" Franky sounded extremely unsure that what he said was an acceptable answer. You never really knew with Robin's mom.
"Really? That early? I was thinking maybe around 11 or 12, but if you insis-."
"No, no! We'll be back by then!" They both said in unison, having Olvia go into a fit of laughter.
"Alright, alright. Midnight at the latest. Take care of her, and have fun. I love you."
She reached up and wrapped both teenagers in a massive bear hug, in which they gladly returned. They hopped into Franky's car and drove off. The ride was a rather long one, extending all the way towards the outskirts of the city.
"Franky, where are we going?" Robin couldn't help getting a little exhilarated. It was obvious that this party was something big, she just wanted to find out why everyone has been acting so different lately.
"Somewhere I know you'll love."
When they reached their destination, Robin couldn't believe her eyes. Franky had driven her to the park in which they had their first date. But instead of your regular, stereotypical park, it was strewn with baby blue lanterns here and there. Some floating in the sky, others bouncing off of tables and chairs. There were about 30 tables spread out, decorated with violets and white roses. Robin's two favorite flowers. Near the very back was a dancefloor with tiny white Christmas lights glowing from in between the floorboards. In the center of in all was a fountain. The entire thing was illuminated with a beautiful teal color that gave you the feeling of being underwater.
Robin looked to Franky, who had a big triumphant smile on his face. This was just too amazing for words. When did he find the time to set all of this up?
"Too stunned for words, huh? Well, a beautiful girl deserves a beautiful party. Happy birthday, Robin." He leaned over and planted a sweet, long kiss on her still frozen lips.
Wait, did he say birthday? Who's birthday? Hers? Wait, what the actual-.
"I know, your birthday was back in February, but you didn't do anything! And I wanted to do something big for you. It took a while, but I got everything done. Super, isn't it?"
Robin looked back to the gala and took it all in, then turned to Franky.
"Yes, its quite super. But not as super as you."
She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him, this time, he was the frozen one. She pulled back and stared lovingly into his eyes.
"Robin, you're more than super. So much more..."
His sentiment was interrupted by a knock on Robin's window. They turned to see the entire Strawhat crew standing there with accomplished grins on their faces. Nami opened the door and pulled Robin into a strangling hug.
"Happy belated birthday, Robin!"
"Thank you! Oh wow, this is all to much."
"Nonsense! Only the best for our archaeologist!" Luffy said with his signature grin.
Everyone led Robin to the front of the party to give the big announcement.
"Hey, everyone! The birthday girl is here!" The entire park went in an uproar of cheers and whistles. Robin saw nearly everyone from her school, and then some.
"Today is Robin's day so everyone treat her special! And let the party begin!"
And with that last cheer, the party started at full swing. Music started pouring out from every corner and Luffy was already inhaling all the food.
Yes, this surely would be a day to remember.
