Chapter 1
Gunshots rung around her ears as the blonde fell to the ground, blood pouring from her chest and head. The little girl ran forward, her hands resting on the back of the blonde girl's back, shaking her.
"Ash! Ash!" She cried, tears flowing freely.
"Aw.. Poor little girl. Yet you only have yourself to blame, now don't you?" A voice sounded form behind.
She looked back, spotting a long haired red head with a fedora covering her face. She lifted a gun. pointing it straight at the little girl, shooting.
Sam jolted awake, breathing heavily. A bird that sat on her window sill flew away, letting more early sunlight into the crumbling room. Her hand found her way into her long unkempt hair as she calmed herself.
"Calm down Sam, it was only a nightmare." She said to herself as he took a deep breath in.
She took a look out the broken window. It was her main source of light along with another one across the room and a small lantern she 'found.' Her little concrete room wasn't the most comfortable, but it was cozy. She didn't exactly know what it used to be, but she's taken it for herself. She had taken three mattresses that people had thrown out and stacked them on top of each other to make a bed, an old piece of cloth for a blanket. A tall battered bookshelf stood in the corner next to a small metal desk and old dining chair. The bookshelf was riddled with different books, varying in size and condition. Her tattered backpack lay next to it. She had bought it only last year with the money she saved up, but it wasn't very high quality.
A loud chime brought her out of her trance as she realized what time it was. She quickly jumped up off her bed and rummaged through the piles of clothes on her floor, looking for something that looked clean. She quickly threw on a white short-sleeved shirt and some black shorts, shoved her shoes on, and grabbed her backpack off the ground as she raced out the wooden plank for a door. She raced down the street, passing various people as she did so. The sun shown down on the busy streets as cars whizzed by, but the light never seemed to make it to the dark alleyways. Every once in a while an antagonized scream would come from one, the source most likely being an unfortunate soul to wander into one late at night. It wasn't long before her feet brought her to the shop area. Shops dotted the streets, most were old and run down. She didn't pride herself, nor really cared about, living in a wealthy part of town. She wasn't a noble, after all.
She could hear a faint bell ring in the distance, coming straight from her school. Akuma Academy. The academy was rather large, containing of separate buildings for different school level. The building to the far left was Grade school, the one on the far left was Junior High, and the largest one in the middle was the High School. It was her second year in the high school, and she knew being late on the first day would be detrimental. Even if she didn't care about her looks or where she lived, her education was no exception.
She wasn't panting heavily like a normal person would running a mile to their school. Over the summer she had kept herself in shape, in this world, you had to. Here it was survival of the fittest. You were either strong, smart, or high in government status to survive. Anything else, you're as good as dead. She wasn't super strong, and definitely not high in any sort of governmental standings, but she had her brains. Even if her focuses her more around literature then math or science.
She stopped right at the front entrance. The glass doors shining as the sun reflected off them. She took a deep breath, and walked in.
