Sixteenth: Sander Sides

This was inspired by @ChickitaGirl, so thank you! (Also, guys, her Sander Sides stuff is amazing. Please check it out.)

My hand raises to press the doorbell, but I hesitate.

I've seen his videos, it's not like he's just Thomas anymore, right? He has new friends and a new life. He wouldn't want to see me.

I went to school with him, didn't really talk much to each other. Until our teacher put us together for a project. I guess that was the first time I really met Thomas. Eventually, we just kinda gravitated to each other and became friends.

Never more than that. I don't see him that way.

He's the last chance you have, idiot. Knock on the door!

That's right. I'm too broke at the moment to get an apartment or even get a hotel room.

There's always my car... this was a long shot anyway.

As I turn to go, I notice something: The front door is cracked open. A bad feeling blossoms in my gut as I put a hand against the door, and push.

This is breaking and entering. You could get arrested for this if he's here, maybe he just left the door open!

I try to ignore the rising panic in my throat as I peek my head inside. I feel as if this home normally feels happy, and joyful. But now...

... it seems dead. What happened here?

I slowly walk down the little entry way and peek into the kitchen area, then the living room.

Nobody.

Seriously, you could go to jail. What are you doing?!

A shiver runs down my spine as I glance upstairs, but I can't bring myself to walk up there. I know the house is empty. I just... know it. Even so, I try again.

"H-Hello? Is anybody here?" My voice echoes off the walls.

There's no reply.

I move towards the door.

You're overthinking this. He's probably just running errands and left his door open. So you'd better get your sorry butt outta here before-

Something beeps.

I pause and look around.

It sounded like it came from behind me...

I head back to the living room and peer in. A light is coming from the other side of the couch, on a small table. I walk over to it and realize it's a phone.

Thomas' phone.

He wouldn't leave his phone here. Not if he's as connected to it as he was in school.

I slowly start to back up.

No, no. You're still over thinking things. As far as you know, he just... left it? Right? He can do that. He can make a mistake and leave it-

A loud thud resonates from above me. I jump and put a hand over my mouth, trying not to scream at the sudden noise.

That's him. You just broke in and now you'll be arrested. Good job, idiot.

As silently fast as I can make myself go, I head for the door.

Maybe I can make it before-

"Is there somebody down there?" A shrill, obviously female, voice calls down. I hurry faster.

I guess Thomas isn't as gay as I thought if he has a girlfriend.

"Patton~?" Footsteps echo down the stairs. I'm almost to the door.

Since when was the hall way this long?!

My hand barely touches the doorknob whenever there is a sudden pain that explodes into my shoulder. I cry out and hold it as I turn to face the girl. In the light provided from the windows, I can see her.

She's so pale it almost looks like she's glowing, very tall, well built, and a lazy mess of blonde hair sits on her head. Her icey eyes make me shudder as I take a nervous step back.

Oh yeah, and she's holding a bloody whip.

Oh shit man what the hell kinda girlfriend are you into?!

"Who are you?!" What was pleasantness earlier has turned into fury as she nears me. I keep backing up, aiming to get to the door.

"N-Nobody! I was just looking for Thomas and-" I'm cut off as she is suddenly in front of me, the door slamming before I can stop it.

"I can't have anyone telling on me," She smiles as we make eye contact, "Nobody needs to know." Before I can react to anything, her fist makes contact with my temple. I'm down before I can make a noise.

---------

Please tell me that was just a messed up dream...

I groan as my senses come back to me, my head pounding with my heartbeat. Something cold is around my neck. My hand moves up to my face, but as soon as it makes contact pain like a white fire engulfs my head and races down my neck.

A whimper escapes my throat as I jerk my hand away and my mouth falls open in a silent scream.

Oh come on, it's not like you haven't felt pain before.

I freeze.

Just think of it like you messed up in school again. They beat you for that, didn't they?

They did...

I really hope that she just drugged me with something and I'm not going insane.

Now get up, we have things we need to do.

Slowly, I manage to get my feet below me and cast my glance around the area. The entire right side of my face feels heavy.

She packed one hell of a punch.

She...

"Nobody needs to know" ? What does that mean?

Definitely not his girlfriend.

Agreed.

It takes me a moment to realize I just agreed with myself.

....

...............

......................

I'm going insane.

Ignore that for now, we need to focus.

I take a deep breath and nod silently, shuffling forwards.

Finally, I notice a bare lightbulb swinging from what might be a rope in the middle of the room. Shadows bounce from one place to the other.

Everything is cement. The four walls, the floor, the roof, all of it. All of it except the door.

I shuffle over to the door and reach for the knob, ignoring my arm's stinging protests. Right before I can touch it, it starts to move.

I panic and scramble backwards. My back hits the opposite wall before the door is completely open.

The girl from before stands in the entry way.

"You weren't supposed to be there. You should've been somewhere else." The shadow of the whip makes me flinch, "You'll pay for that."
