Chapter 26 - The Truth

---Marcus' POV---

The whole packhouse was completely silent as every wolf gathered in the yard. Zayne was draped over my back, still shivering from the brutal force of the Alpha command, but I couldn't have been any more proud of my pup.

His fingers weakly held onto my fur, making me turn back and gently nuzzle his face. He offered a wobbly smile before closing his eyes, drooping off of my body as he fell asleep and shifted halfway.

Luckily I could catch him with little effort, laying him down on the floor between my paws before I glanced at the others. We were still waiting for the rest of Pack Law to arrive.

My muzzle twitched into a cruel snarl, my fur bristling slightly as I smirked. Yes, all of Pack Law was going to unite to deal with this filth. We were going to eradicate all those who had a hand in this, reeducate the innocent and most importantly.

We were going to tear Zayne's former Alpha apart.

A few low growls could be heard clearly as my thoughts were projected through the link, almost everyone agreeing silently. Enough is enough and Zayne's former Alpha needed to be put down, as quickly as possible.

"They're almost here. Ready to go?" Alpha Lee spoke through the link, alerting us of the arrival of the last few packs of Pack Law. I glanced over my shoulder and turned around, keeping a protective stance over Zayne as I spotted a few huge wolves appearing from the forest.

I could feel my hackles rise up as several eyes were focused on Zayne's tiny form, the four Northern Alpha's striding over with purpose and clear curiosity burning in their gaze.

"Forgot the Northern Pack Law consists of mostly Dire wolves." I grumbled, hearing Terrance's chocked laugh before he nudged me playfully. "After all the boasting I did, coming from the North to protect you itty bitty wolves, and you forgot that mostly all Northern wolves are massive Dire wolves?"

A low growl spilled past my lips as I curled them warningly, flashing my teeth in playful annoyance. I hadn't forgot about Terrance's constant picking on our size in the very beginning, nor the fact that we were all impressed of the colossal wolf he could change into.

"Funny that I do remember how my itty bitty wolf kicked your furry butt in the dirt." I teased, huffing a laugh when Terrance averted his head with a huff. My ears pricked up at claws scuffing over a rock, and I looked up just in time to see the Alphas coming to a halt in front of us.

I grew serious and lowered my head slightly; stance widening as I showed my respect to the Alphas but also made it clear that no one was getting near Zayne. They huffed in annoyance as their wolves let out a low grumble before Lee intervened, shifting on the spot.

"As his mate, Marcus is quite protective of our little Omega. Forgive him." Lee spoke, ruffling though his brown hair as the four Alphas shared a look before shifting into four identical men.

The quads glanced down at the omega between my paws, clearly sniffing the air before glancing at me. "We'd like to meet the pup that alerted us of the fact that Pack Law has been slacking. As guardians, we are supposed to prevent things like these from happening."

I didn't like it at all but I sighed heavily and gently nudged Zayne to wake up. His little pup form stretched out with a pitiful whine, gaining attention of every wolf in the premises before he forced himself up with a extended yawn, licking his lips tiredly.

The tired look quickly changed to shock and slightly fearful as he instantly scrambled on his paws. My low growl rumbled against his back, making me grin slightly as I sat down on my haunches and allowed Zayne to press back against me.

"Its amazing how he relaxes from physical contact between us." My wolf awed as our Omega pressed himself firmly against my chest, ears twitching as he eyed the foursome worriedly.

"Zayne, these are the Northern Alphas from Pack Law." Alpha Lee introduced them one by one as the quads each nodded or smiled reassuringly at my mate when their name was called. "Eric, Wilson, Michael and Cain are all settled close to your former pack and would like to meet you."

A long, stressed yawn escaped Zayne, making our pack step closer to defend the Omega if he needed it. It was instinctive behavior; we all knew we had nothing to fear from these Dire wolves, they were brothers in pack.

I shifted when Zayne stumbled slightly, grabbing him in my arms and cuddled him close. "He's still exhausted from fighting his former Alpha's command to show us where his pack is hidden."

Wilson nodded slowly, grey eyes fixed on the tiny form in my arms before he stepped forwards and held his hand out to Zayne. He twisted in my arms, curious yet cautious at the same time before giving the offered hand a hesitant sniff.

"Its been years since I last saw an Omega. I think the Western Pack Law encountered a pack with Omega twins, right Michael?" Eric stated, looking at his sibling when he nodded slightly.

"But those weren't abused." Cain spat venomously, glaring in the distance as Zayne winced at the anger in his voice before the man glanced at Alpha Lee. "You said you had a prisoner who refused to talk?"

Lee nodded slowly, gesturing towards the lower levels of the pack house. A twisted grin came over Cain's face as he grinned slightly and shifted again before bounding towards the house.

Should I feel bad for the sick excuse of a Beta, knowing that the most feared sibling of the Northern Quads was heading down to interrogate him? I scoffed and shook my head, smiling as Zayne leaned up to lick at my throat.

The bastard deserved what was coming to him.

Not even a minute has passed before we heard yelps, the black wolf from the Beta scampering out of the house, tripping over its paws in the haste to get away. I spotted a few wolves ready to pounce and stop the escapee but they all froze and the dominant snarl from Cain.

The Beta made a mad dash for it, limping through the pack of wolves that growled and snapped at him in passing while Cain leisurely followed his progress. I could see his muscles tensing from where I stood and knew just what was going to happen.

He was going to give the Beta a taste of his own medicine.

"Let him get to the cover of the woods." Cain glared at my suggestion before his eyes flitted to Zayne when I verified, "The pups and Zayne don't need to see this." His head snapped back to the Beta when he tripped before scampering in the forest.

As soon as the tip of his black tail disappeared between the foliage, Cain's massive wolf launched itself off the porch and chased after its prey. I was quite certain that he would manage to get some answers out of the pitiful excuse of a wolf before he finished him off.

I could tell that Cain tried his best to keep things quiet; beside a pained howl and a quiet scuffle, we didn't hear anything. The only thing we heard was Cain's overpowering snarl and the dry snap that followed before the sounds died out instantly.

When the dire wolf emerged, he glared at the floor, eyes burning with hatred as he glared once over his shoulder before swishing his tail through the air. "We're not going after the Alpha."

My body stilled before I growled lowly. Did he just say that we weren't going to kill the vermin who did this?! Has he lost his mind?

Cain glared ferociously as he heard my thoughts before he snarled, flashing his teeth. He instantly stopped when Zayne surprisingly growled back, though my mate pressed himself firmly in my arms.

"Looks like Zayne is defending you." Terrance grinned while his mate Mike awed how cute Zayne was. Meanwhile Alice shook her head before glancing between us. "Will one of you tell everyone what is going on here?"

I scoffed but Cain lifted his head regally before replying through the links. "We're not going after the Alpha because there is no Alpha. From what I learned from that vile thing's mind, they killed the true Alpha a long time ago."

Everyone stilled, thinking about the repercussions of that statement as Cain walked closer to Zayne, giving the boy a lick over his cheek and offering everyone a smile as the Omega grumbled slightly and gently swatted at Cain's muzzle.

It was funny to realize that Zayne's wolf was the one doing the grumbling and swatting Cain away because he didn't want any wolf's attention but my own. Zayne himself was terrified out of his mind by his wolf's actions but he quickly calmed down when he realized Cain wasn't mad at all.

"So...what you're saying is that Zayne's former pack isn't a pack at all?" Logan stated as he wrapped his arms tightly around Alice, instinct calling to protect his mate. There was only one reason why one Alpha had been exchanged by another without our knowing so.

"Rogues." Lee spat while Callum snarled lowly and shook his head. "How did Rogues manage to sneak up and take over a pack without our knowledge?" He questioned while glaring at the Quads, since Zayne's former pack rested in their territory.

"We don't know when it happened but I do recall feeling a power surge at the same time that another Alpha stepped down and let his son take over." Michael sighed in his deep voice and Eric frowned slightly before nodding.

"So the rogues must've planned their attack meticulously to let it coincide with the power surge from the natural transference of an Alpha's power. We didn't notice their attack because at the time they killed the Alpha, another was giving his power to his son at the exact same time."

Zayne tilted his ears slightly before letting out a startled yip.

"Doesn't that mean that someone from inside Pack Law is working with the rogues?!"
