There was a knock on the door.

I answered.

"Hello" I looked up with confusion, it was Niki.

"Hey, Jen"  Niki was in shorts and a blue shirt that complimented his eyes.

"Hey, what's up? I spoke with confusion. He was sweating and was short on breath. He probably ran over here.

"I want-- let me catch my breath-- whoo- whoo-- I want to invite you to something really exciting" his face lit up.

"what am I being invited to?" My eyebrows wrinkled up in confusion.

"My engagement celebration !!"

I shook my head. I didn't understand. Who was he engaged too?

"to who are you engaged to?" I asked as my eyes widened.

"To Amber of course, why I was at lunch with her and I....." I tuned him out in confusion, going over how this came to be.

"did she blackmail you?" I realized how stupid my question was and instantly regret it.

"what, n-no, why would you say that, I'm engaged to her because she loves me and I love her. I want her to be my wife and the mother of our children"

"whoa-whoa, slow down." I didn't understand why her. "Niki you just met her literally a month ago, you don't know everything about her."

"well of course I do, I've even met her parents and they gave me their blessing."

I sat down and was processing everything in my head. My palms were sweaty and I looked up at Niki.

"hey are you okay?" His voice was so sweet and calming. Amber doesn't deserve someone like him.

"yeah, I am, does Chris know?"

"no, but maybe you could tell him" he said with a smile on his face.

" um okay sure, I'll tell him"

"sooo...." he said with a silly grin.

"sooo... what?"

"are you gonna come?"

"um.." suddenly a knot formed in my throat. "yes, I will" that was hard to say.

"great, see you then, its at 8:30, tomorrow night, bye" and just like that he left.

Amber was the one he was gonna marry. He would be her's. They would be together. I didn't agree with this. I don't think shes the one for Niki, but knowing Niki he wouldn't care what I said, or what Chris said. All I could do was make sure he was happy, and he seemed it.

Chris came home. I told him about the engagement between Amber and Niki. He was alright with it. I didn't understand, does he not notice the huge mistake Niki is making here.

"what" I said with a serious tone.

"what?" he turned aroundy shrugging.

" how can you be okay with this? His making a mistake can't you see?" I was furious and was well aware of how red and angry I looked.

"what, if that's what my brother wants then let him be, I won't say anything cuz it's not my business or yours so stay out of it." Chris was getting serious and his hands had formed into fists.

I didn't want to speak to him, he had never raised his voice at me or looked at me with the way he did. My eyes teared up. I tired to fight them back but I couldn't, one tear rolled down my cheek. He noticed and his facial expression had soften.

I ran out the door. I could faintly hear Chris yell my name out and apologize. I didn't care I had to sort out my thoughts.
