Dragon Amulet
I decided to take a stroll, so I walked outside into the snowy weather early in the morning. Unlike every other time I had taken a walk during this winter, I noticed something shimmering in the snow. As I picked up the shimmering object, I realized it was an amulet. The amulet had a dragon that was holding a gem of sorts, that seemed to change color depending on how the light hit it. It was quite beautiful actually, but I would never be able to show my father.
The reason being that about 50 years ago, when my father was eight, his father, my grandfather, was killed by a dragon. Until about twenty years ago dragons plagued not only our kingdom, but our land. I have always secretly thought, along with my mother that the dragons meant no harm, until some of our ancestors tried to abolish their kind.
According to ancient legend among our kingdom: Centuries ago when dragons first arrived (or at least when the humans had first noticed the dragons) the dragons and humans had lived together peacefully. Corryn Skotadi, an ancestor of mine, had just turned 27 two days ago. Since he was 25 he started thinking about something though... humans were here in this land, in this kingdom long before the dragons; so why should we be kind and welcome them with open arms when they've tried to move into our land. We should fight them, conquer them and show them this is our land and we would like to keep it that way, not welcome them into our land, like a long lost friend you welcome into your home. Now that it's two years later he has finally decided to take action on his thoughts. He started to express his thoughts among other people, but they didn't agree. They said the dragons haven't done a single thing to harm any of our people, and yes they moved into our land but it's not like they tried to just take it and kick us out. Corryn started to realize that no one would agree with him any time soon, so he started taking action himself. He left the kingdom walls and entered the dragons' colony. He killed two baby dragons and one adult in front of the rest of the other dragons. They were so astonished by his cruel behavior that they didn't even defend themselves. Instead, they attacked the next day and forever on, until about twenty years ago. Corryn never told anyone in his kingdom other than his son, many years later, what he had done to the dragons and why. Corryn's son, Marth, had sworn not to tell a living soul until after his father died, and the moment Corryn died Marth told his mother; and that was how the legend began.
Even though I couldn't show my father the amulet I really wanted to show my mother. As I handed the amulet to my mother, I felt something engraved on the back, that I hadn't noticed before. I told my mother and asked what it was. She turned the amulet over in her hand and looked at the tiny engravings.
"I'm sorry Autumn, but I don't have a clue what this says. It's written in another language, maybe Greek." She handed the amulet back to me, and walked away. Even though my mother didn't have a clue what it said, so I most likely wouldn't understand it either, I still flipped it over and started trying to read and understand the engravings.
My mother was right, it was Greek. Somehow I knew what it said. In Greek it said Fylakto Ek O Drakontas, which means Amulet Of The Dragon in English. I don't know how to read Greek, but I knew what this said.
I'd seen this amulet before, but where?... Then I remembered that when I was about four or five someone had shown me this amulet, although it was a long time ago somehow I managed to remember and recognize it. But who had showed me it?... I couldn't remember so I decided I would try to figure it out later.
I put the amulet on and hid it under the shawl was currently wearing. I was wearing a pure white swan down shawl, a long turquoise dress with sleeves that came down ¾ of way then flared, and a pair of black knee high riding boots.
It was now just about noon and I decided to take another walk outside. I strolled through the field that branched off of the garden, just like earlier this morning and every other day. Even though the field was more of a small pine tree forest than a field, my family and I called it a field.
I climbed and sat on a low limb of the tallest pine tree, which I visited constantly. Then I saw something move on one of the limbs above me. I climbed up two more limbs and saw none other than a tiny, pure white dragon with emerald green eyes, just like mine.
