Prologue
"Ian! You better have the rent ready today, you punk!"
I groaned while grinding my teeth as I opened my eyes, being welcomed by the sound of the landlord banging on the door. Throwing the sheets of my half naked body, I darted towards the cupboard where my roommates kept their part of the rent and opened it.
"Ah fack no!" I exclaimed when I noticed the measly hundred dollar bill lying lonely on the shelve. Growling between my teeth, I slammed the cupboard shut and ran towards my pants, where I plucked my wallet out on the way towards the door. If the landlord wouldn't stop banging the damned door, he'd be standing in the middle of the room in a minute or two.
I rushed to unlock the door, since I knew that Sloan didn't want to be kept waiting before I opened it, revealing the chunky balled man, who's chest was heaving with every heavy breath he took before he spat, "Well? Where's my money you brat? You and your friends are way overdue."
My yaw ticked slightly as I tried to stay polite and understand the man's strong American accent. "Sorry sham, me friends didn't join in-" I started to explain but Sloan just took a menacing step forwards as he jabbed his chubby finger against my bare chest.
"I don't give a damn if you have to pay the rent all by yourself. I don't even care if you have to whore yourself around but I want my money. Do I make yourself clear?" He snarled inches away from my face while I held my breath.
What did this guy eat for breakfast? He reeks off garlic and booze.
Without saying another word, I just gave him the rent before I stepped back in my room and closed the door, trying my best to ignore the curses and shouting in the hallway before Sloan stomped off, uttering threats and cursing like a sailor before the door slammed shut with a resounding smack.
I couldn't focus though; I was too pissed off with my flat mates. Making a decision on the spot, I stomped towards the bedroom of the others and shoved the door open before I rolled my eyes again. Sam jumped up from his bed when the door smacked against it and he looked up with bloodshot eyes.
"What the fack is wrong with you sham?" He snarled, slurring the words as they came out before he held his head and groaned. I could feel me blood boiling in me veins as I took a step forwards. "You're all flamed again, aren't ya? I just got a nice visit from Sloan."
That seemed to sober him up a bit as Sam bleached and looked up, silently cursing under his breath. "Look mate, we'll pay ye back in a few days. We just wanted to have a grand night mate." He tried but I've had enough. This had happened six times, now the seventh time that I had to pay most of the rent while they had a grand night of clubbing.
"Yer as sharp as a beach ball mate. Didn't I tell ya the last time that I'd leave if I had to pay everything one more time? Have a craig night sham. I hope you facking enjoyed it." I snarled before slamming the door shut and went to my bedroom, where I quickly packed a bag and left when I heard them holler out to me.
"Ian! Come on mate!" I heard Eric shout out behind me but I just flipped him off and stuck my hand out to stop a cab. Just as I threw my bag in, a hand clamped on my arm to stop me, but I just spun around and drove my fist in Daniel's face.
"Kiss me arse!" I spat at them before jumping in the cab and telling the driver where to go. He sped off, obviously afraid that the others would jump his car if he waited any longer.
We were in the better parts of the city after a twenty-minute drive and I sighed slightly before I started preparing myself. When I arrived, I gave me thanks to the driver and walked up to the front door before I hesitantly knocked.
A few seconds passed before I heard a familiar voice shout, "Just a minute!" I sighed in relief as a redhead opened the door and cautiously peeked around the corner. When she noticed me standing there, she let out a squeak before throwing the door open and jumped in my arms.
"Ian! Oh my god, I never thought you'd take my offer!" She screamed loud enough to wake the whole neighborhood. She did wake her boyfriend up though, since a young lad appeared in the doorway, a scowl forming on his face as he watched his girlfriend being spun around in my arms.
"What the hell is going on here?" He snapped, making the girl in my arms turn around before she bounded towards him and hung from his neck. "Ah Austin, are you getting a teeny weeny bit jealous?" She cooed, ruffling his hair before she straightened out. "Ian is going to live with us until he finds a place of his own."
His eyes shot towards me and if looks could kill, I'd be six feet under. The muscles in his neck tensed as he snapped, "No way in hell! I'm not going to let any guy live with us Louise!"
I rolled my eyes at his tirade and drawled, "Sham, ye don't need to be afraid that I'd go after your lass. You on the other hand..." I teased at the end, throwing him a appreciative look from head to toe before it clicked. He blushed slightly and hesitated, "Say, are you...Ian James?"
When I nodded, he groaned slightly and waved us in, muttering, "Should've known she meant her only gay friend when she said she made an arrangement. Guess they didn't pay up again huh? How much do they owe you anyways?"
Throwing my bag over my shoulder, I shrugged slightly as the anger simmered in my stomach. "Eight grand." Austin froze in the middle of the room before throwing me a wide-eyed look and shook his head. "Idiots. How are they gonna pay the rent now?" I snorted as I followed him towards a spare room and chucked my bag towards the bed.
"Not my problems anymore sham." I drawled before flopping down on the bed as I yawned again. Louise jumped on the bed as well, making me bounce up with a groan before she flopped down next to my pillow. Her boyfriend took a gentler approach and sat down on the foot-end.
"You really need some sleep Ian. Late night work again?" She asked softly as she brushed my short brown hair out of my face as I nodded, keeping my eyes closed. "Yeah, need to work again tonight, Thursday and the weekend. Sloan woke me up for the rent this morning after I barely fell asleep." I muttered tiredly, my Irish accent slowly fading away with my anger.
I knew how to speak American but I liked to talk Irish most of the time. But still, it annoyed some people, as they couldn't understand what I was saying. Austin muttered something against Louise, something about leaving me alone for the night so I could get some sleep.
Grumbling something incoherently, I fell asleep in my best friend's house after leaving the house of the roommates I spend four years with. Before I fell asleep, I made the promise to myself to get myself a real house. One that I could call my home.
---------
A few weeks later, Louise barged in the room with a newspaper flying behind her. I rose my eyebrows with my feet still laying crossed on the desk before she shoved them off and placed the newspaper on it. "You're going to love me." She smiled wickedly as she pointed to the red-circled house advert.
I leaned forwards before picking the paper up with a smile; there, right in the middle of that simple red marker, was a house that I could afford if I got a loan. And the payment would be manageable too.
Jumping out of the seat, I smirked and hugged Louise before placing a kiss on her forehead. "Facking hell! Yeah!" I shouted out before running downstairs with Louise close to my heels. Austin looked up with a smile as he heard us thundering down the stairs and shook his head before he recovered his keys.
"To the bank?" He asked, his eyes shining with mirth because he knew what my answer was. Nodding rapidly, I shouted out, "To the bank! Oh shut it." I added when Louise laughed out loud and shoved me out the door.
The whole drive to the bank, I couldn't sit still. If they would give me a loan, I could buy that house and get out of Louise and Austin's hair. Austin, a muscular build guy with short black hair, smiled to himself as I crossed my legs, sat back to lean against the seat only to jump back up to look out the window.
"We're here." He said, making me jump up to look out of the window before I frowned and looked at him. Austin started laughing, his whole body shaking with amusement as Louise joined him.
Obviously, we weren't even close to the bank.
They didn't stop laughing until we really arrived at the bank, where my mood brightened significantly after a few minutes and I walked out of the real-estate agency with a home of my own.
I couldn't keep the grin off my face until we arrived at their place and I rushed up my room to retrieve my wallet. Louise shot me a confused look as I waved my wallet in her face but it cleared up in joy as I said, "We're gonna celebrate tonight! I'm taking you guys to the club I work at. Drinks on me."
Louise whooped and jumped on my back as Austin smirked slightly and nodded before crawling back in his car.
Little did I know that my life would change after tonight.
